It may just be my computer ( no broad band in the sticks!)but the other thread was taking a long while to load and accept new messages so maybe we can start again here...

Oh bum elliott - I can imagine how frustrating that must be - and the childcare thing is a nightmare isn't it? Annoying to think that a reproductive system that's completely useless ( ie we have to go to these lengths to get pregnant) is also hard to 'turn off'!

OP posts:
elliott · 22/02/2003 20:20

mmm, yes - I seem to have a completely indestructable menstrual cycle which happily chugs along producing eggs every month, to no effect whatsoever!!

Jane101 · 24/02/2003 14:46

Bayleaf, no, I don't post on the CARE message boards. Well, I did post once ages ago (but not as Jane101) as there was a thread specifically about iui. Now I've discovered Mumsnet I haven't actually looked at the CARE site for ages.

dot1 · 25/02/2003 14:39

Ho hum.... just done a test and there's no line... It is only 12 days after inseminating, but when dp was pregnant, she got a positive result 10 days after, so I'm assuming it's not worked this month.

Boo hiss...!

bayleaf · 25/02/2003 18:55

Oh Bug**r Dot - not exactly definitive yet but I know how you feel - by day 12 if I didn't have a line by day 12 I presumed it hadn't worked as so many people do seem to test positive then.
Was this a clomid month or just the usual inseminate and hope routine?

After ovulating (hopefully) 2 weeks ago and trying to concieve - I find that I have some spotting today (brownish) and slight discomfort- my period is not due for 2 weeks - does anyone have any ideas - thanks

elliott · 26/02/2003 10:20

grommit, if you ovulated 2 weeks ago surely period should be due now?? I'm confused!

elliott · 26/02/2003 10:21

dot1, sorry you got a negative, but it is a bit soon to say yet. Thinking of you.

Marina · 26/02/2003 10:26

Dot1, that was dp, this is you. Don't give up hope just yet, you never know...my positive results never showed up until at least three-four days after my period was due. Fingers crossed for you.

bells2 · 26/02/2003 10:41

I have never had a positive result until a week after my period is due if it's any consolation.

dot1 · 26/02/2003 12:55

Hi all and thanks for the messages! It was an inseminate and hope month, although the first try now I'm on Metformin. I've got to give it 3 goes and if there's no joy, I can then go back to my GP to ask for a referral to a specialist doc. to get Chlomid. So, 1 down, 2 to go....

Honestly though, I'm so impatient - I discovered this spare pregnancy test in my drawer at work, and all day yesterday I was convincing not to use it yet, but to wait until next week... but I only managed to hold out until the afternoon... and it's so depressing when the box is completely clear and there's no line at all - even when held up to the window..!

bayleaf · 26/02/2003 13:53

Dot - buy some in yur local Poundland ( 2 for £1!!) or here then you won't need to bother about how many tests you do!!
If you're on metformin then it wasn't a complete 'inseminate and hope' cycle - you did have some help I suppose ( hopefully!)
PS does anyone else think we should start ttc3? Yet again it's taking ages to load...

OP posts:
buttercup · 26/02/2003 15:29

hi dot. I totally sympathise with your impatience. I am currently in fifth cycle of TTC and had been feeling sick for a few days. Did a test almost a week before I was due yesterday!! Ever since then I promptly stopped feeling sick and now feel quite despondent again.

Jane101 · 03/03/2003 17:16

I don't know what to think this month. I had a scan and blood test today, and the good news is I'm ovulating on the left side this month. What's less encouraging is the timing - they wanted to do the iui treatment on Wednesday and Thursday this week, but dh is away on Thursday so we can only do Wednesday. Also he ought to do his bit at 10:30 on Wednesday, but he's got a meeting so it's going to have to be 8 o'clock. The nurse says they can store it, but 10:30 would be the "optimum" time. Anyway, it's the best chance we've had since October, it's just disappointing that we can't do everything possible to maximise our chances. This whole business is such a struggle always - it feels like wading through mud.

bayleaf · 03/03/2003 19:00

OH Jane - what a bum deal - after all this wait - it just seems so unfair!
I know I get frustrated with dh and his availability too ( I did ET by myself last time as he was on a course)- in the old days when we were trying for dd and he ws often aborad at THE time it ws sooooooooo frustrating - nowadays I try to concentrate on the fact that whilst he has the sort of job when sometimes he HAS to be away/at a certain meeting etc etc - it is because he has this job that we can afford to pay for as much icsi as I want to go through - so it's not all bad.
Fingers crossed that the early start doesn't harm them...

Hi all. Good luck to you Jane. Sorry it didn't work out this time, dot. (I assume by now you'd have posted to tell us if it had.)

I'm currently waiting, expecting my period to start Tues/Weds/Thurs, and resisting the temptation to do pregnancy tests. (Because I know I won't really believe it even if it is negative unless I actually start to bleed, so what's the point?) Last month I was taking my temperature and got the fall in temperature the morning of the day my period started. Not sure if that was better or worse than just starting at work with no warning.

How's everyone else doing?

dot1 · 04/03/2003 08:55

Hello,

Yes, no luck for me this time, but I'm trying to remain optimistic that at least I'm on the Metformin and have a plan....

Bayleaf - thanks for the link to the cheap pregnancy/ovulation tests - I got loads and they came the next day - brilliant! So I'm going to do lots of ovulation tests this month to see if the Metformin's kicked in - should have by now. I've never really got a line before (apart from a very faint line last month), so we'll see...

Good luck Ruth 21 and Jane 101 - keep us posted...

Ruth21 · 04/03/2003 09:36

Despite last night's message I couldn't stop myself using the pg test in my office drawer this morning when I got into work. My excuse was I felt really queasy as I was walking to work. Negative. At least it's putting a brake on my little fantasies, though I've still got this niggle: maybe the test was wrong, etc. (But it was one of those ones that you're supposed to be able to use 3 days before your period is due, so it probably is accurate.)

Ho hum. Maybe I will go to the doc if it hasn't worked this month and try and get myself checked out a bit. How long did those of you who are using medical assistance wait before seeing a doctor? Did you wish you'd gone sooner? Anyone regretted going to a doctor about fertility things? I am a bit nervous about getting on a medical treadmill that will be hard to get off, but if there is something wrong I don't want to waste loads of time.

bluestar · 04/03/2003 11:50

I have only been trying a couple of months but have very irregular cycles, however, I went to the doctors just to register my concerns with trying to get pregnant when I could not tell when the most fertile time is. Doctor was very encouraging and gave me two immediate options - keep trying regularly or stop trying for a couple of months and take some tablets to regulate my cycle. I opted to keep trying as I didn't really want to stop! Also discussed future options if I wasn't pregnant in 6 months. I would say go to the doctor just to get your worries noted on your records just in case there is a problem later on.

buttercup · 04/03/2003 11:57

After a number of months of TCC, also with irregular cycles I found out this weekend that I am pregnant. Total delight. I had been feeling sick but put it down to a tummy bug as it seemed to soon after ovulation. I did a test, couldnt help myself, about two days before i was due. There was the feintest of blue lines. Kept getting the test stick back out the bin in disbelief and holding it up to the windown - it was so feint I wasn't really sure i was seeing it all. I didnt even tell my boyfriend. I tested again 48 hours later on sunday eve and it was a proper blue line!! am still in shock as was beginning to think it wouldnt happen. hope this story is encouraging, rather than discouraging, to you all out there who feel like it not gonna happen. That was really how I was beginning to to feel.

elliott · 04/03/2003 12:02

buttercup, that's great news! Hope everything goes uneventfully for you.

bayleaf · 04/03/2003 14:19

That's amazing Buttercup - and brilliant !

I have had a cold over the time when I was most fertile which is a real pain considering we were really hoping for success this month. However, period is not due for another week and a half so we shall see....anyone else conceived whilst being unwell?

Jane101 · 04/03/2003 17:50

Buttercup - congratulations, that's really good news.

Bayleaf, thanks for being so sympathetic. I'm feeling more hopeful today - the clinic rang back to say they can do a 2nd iui on Thursday after all by using part of the sample from Wednesday. Obviously it'd be better if it was fresh rather than stored, but I'm sure it can work.

Ruth21 - sorry it didn't work this month. Last time we did all this (which resulted in ds, now 2) we waited 2 years before going to the doctor and I did regret wasting that time. This time round we only waited 6 months as we knew there could be problems. I know what you mean about the treadmill, but if you're doing it all on the NHS it could take months to be referred anyway. I definitely don't regret going to the doctor. I think how long you leave it depends on your age. I'm 37 in a couple of weeks so I really don't feel I can waste any more time. I think the official advice is leave it for a year if you're under 30 and 6 months if you're over 30. Good luck.
