It may just be my computer ( no broad band in the sticks!)but the other thread was taking a long while to load and accept new messages so maybe we can start again here...

Hi Flippa
I feel like the doyenne of this thread now so I'll say hello - altho I am NOT the person to give good vibes on getting pregnant quickly with number 2 as I'm on month 20 of trying!! ( tho to be fair we didn't discover that the problem was dh's and thus that it was ivf/icsi or nothing until 5 months ago or we might have made progress sooner!)
If you can be bothered to read quickly down this thread and also the original ttc thread ( we started this one when that one got too long) there are quite a few tips to try and avoid the need to bd ( babydance - yet more abreviations I'm afraid) everynight - from personal experience I know the fun can wear pretty thin after a while when the pressure is on to do it EVERY night!
Good luck anyhow( we're on a roll at the moment with quite a few recent 'graduates' so maybe spring is just a fertile time!)

Flippa - I did an ovulation predictor chart on www.babymed.com - worked straight away - worth a try. Good Luck

dot1 · 02/04/2003 09:41

CONGRATULATIONS ELLIOTT AND GROMMITT!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful news - Bayleaf you're right, we're getting lots of graduates at the moment!

I'm back to trying again I'm afraid - that pesky temperature dropped on Saturday, so I knew it wouldn't be good news... Not sure if I can try again this month, as probably not able to travel to see our donor.

Ruth - how are you doing? Haven't heard from you for a while - hope you're OK.

dot1 · 02/04/2003 09:43

oops - just saw your posting Ruth (I've been away for a few days and have just whizzed through the last postings!).

Flippa · 02/04/2003 10:44

Bayleaf and Grommit - thanks!
I have had two previous cycles of trying really hard but both of those months, I was ill - bad cold, gastric bug etc etc. This month am fit and well, although have returned to work full-time (with the consequent added stress) so hoping we might have a better chance. Have looked at babymed and its useful although my periods have tended to be long and ranging from 32 to 36 days. Haven't done the temperature checking yet - although watching the CM! By the way, once conception has occurred, the CM presumably dries up, does it and how early can you tell if you are pregnant? I have had odd tummy ache over the past few days although am supposed to be ovulating around this week so it might be that....
So many questions and can't really find the answers in books or online!

bayleaf · 02/04/2003 20:08

Flippa - you will find the answers if you look on the sites recommended on this thread - I'm afraid I'm too lazy to put all the links again - sorry!

Hi dot and everyone, I´m actually in Brazil on a trip for work with three 50+ male colleagues (and lots of very nice Brazilians), which is why I haven´t been posting much. Certainly not complaining, it is fantastic here, but it does have the downside of a) not being able to obsess at usual length with dp about whether or not I might be pg (well, perhaps this is an advantage) and b) I can´t find a pharmacy with pregnancy tests for sale!

I´m on day 28 today, which is a lot longer than my cycle usually is, and I´m not taking temperature at the moment so I don´t have that indication. On the other hand, I ovulated later than usual (day 14), and I´ve been taking the B6 with the intention of lengthening my luteal phase, so maybe it´s just that working. If I was at home I would definitely have done a test by now but haven´t had the chance here so have been anxiously going to the loo extremely frequently to check. So far so good--I am finding it hard to maintain my proper gloom laden, protect against future disappointment attitude. DP and DD are coming out here on Sunday (we are also making htis a bit of a holiday) so if no sign of period by then DP will bring a pregnancy test with her!!

Of course posting this makes it almost certain that my period will start tonight and I will have to come back and give you all the bad news ...

elliott · 06/04/2003 14:54

ruth, sounds fab! Enjoy your holiday, whatever your result....

Bayleaf, did you have a good weekend away? Hope down-regging is going ok for you.

Ruth21 · 06/04/2003 15:13

Thanks Elliott. In fact, managed a couple of days ago to find a pharmacist with pregnancy tests (after carefully checking the correct terms in my Portuguese dictionary) and ... I am pregnant! I'm very excited, and dp and dd are arriving this evening so we can all celebrate.

Thanks to all of you for support/advice to my neurotic questions over the last few months. Hope it works soon for those who are still trying, dot, bayleaf, flippa, Jane101 etc. (Hope I haven't missed out too many!)

Jane101 · 06/04/2003 15:55

Congratulations Ruth21! I hope you're having a brilliant weekend.

bayleaf · 06/04/2003 17:44

How exciting Ruth - and what great news - ttc thread is REALLY on a roll now - there won't be anyone left to 'man' the board at this rate!

OP posts:
Ruth21 · 06/04/2003 19:18

Or 'woman' it, for that matter! We'll have to recruit some more ttc-ers.

elliott · 06/04/2003 19:53

Ruth, that's fantastic!! Congratulations....are you about a week or so behind me??
And what an exotic place to find out! (better than in the loo at John Lewis on a Tuesday afternoon....!)

Ruth21 · 06/04/2003 19:56

I think so, Elliott--due date December 11th, (got dp to look it up in one of the pregnancy books at home ...). Did I read that you're due around Dec 5th?

elliott · 06/04/2003 20:01

3rd Dec (give or take). See you over on the other thread!
Lots of good luck vibes bayleaf and dot1.

grommit · 06/04/2003 20:19

Congratulations Ruth21 - that's great news!

dot1 · 07/04/2003 15:38

Hi Ruth - that's brilliant!! Congratulations - wonderful news!! Successful ttcs gives us all a bit of hope!

Flippa · 07/04/2003 16:06

Talking of exotic places to find out - I took a test in my work loos on New Year's Eve when I found out I was expecting DS. Sore boobs at the gym led me to suspect. Was then whisked off to the Portland (!) by dh for a dating scan - couldn't get one on the NHS that day!!

Is there anyone left that isn't now pregnant and is there any more pregnancy news? Has been a while since anyone posted here

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 13:06

I'm trying to get pregnant at the moment. We've been trying since Christmas and doing it around the time we are supposed to with no luck at all. I'm getting frustrated now as I thought it would be a breeze as we fell pregnant three times completely accidentally with ds being the result of the third time.

My period is regular but it comes on the first day of the month as opposed to a regular number of days. Don't ask me why but it even adjusts itself in March due to the short month in February. We're going to start trying again tonight (hope that's not too much information) and keep going until very close to the end of this month in the hope it works this time.

All advice welcome.

Flippa · 10/04/2003 13:54

Meanmum, have also been trying in earnest since late December to no avail yet. Fell pg with dd whilst on the pill and am confused as to why its taking a while the second time around. Good to hear from someone else going through the same sort of experiences. My periods so far have been very long - 32-36 days but have been trying for most of the month, just in case! Due on Easter so we shall see. Hate the disappointment each month.
Do let me know how you get on. Am doing a lot of internet research at the moment and filling my head with lots of worries and doubts...
DD is 8months, by the way!

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 14:01

Flippa - my ds is 14 months and to be honest we've been trying since the day after he was born. Not literally but close.

Trying in earnest since Christmas doing it at the right time or so they say. I read this thread initially in the hope that there was a golden answer out there but knowing there wouldn't necessarily be.

I'm due any time from the 28th of this month but I figure it will be the 1st May and will definitely keep you posted. I did buy one of those temperature kits from Boots but upon reading it realised I should have been doing it since about Christmas to have a good idea and got frustrated with the idea that I might not be able to guess for another three months so haven't even started using it. I just want to fall pregnant now. I don't want to wait, I want it to be perfect like the first one, preferably with no morning sickness in the first three months and so on. Typical to want it all I suppose.

Oh yeah, I was officially on the pill when I fell pregnant with ds but actually forgot to take it for three days in a row.

How was your first pregnancy? Definitely keep me posted as I will be ecstatic for you if you are and understand how you are feeling if you aren't. Are you like me and just want to bite the bullet and get it over and done with?

Flippa · 10/04/2003 14:10

Meanmum - to be honest, we have also been trying pretty much from when DD was born as we weren't using any contraception. However, was feeding DD up until end of Dec so only really feel we started properly then. Really thought it would happen quickly and its compounded by having long periods which means I have to wait an extra week to see whether we have hit the jackpot or not. A lot of my friends have fallen pg over the past few months too, without having to try too hard and even though its early days, am beginning to wonder if there might be a problem.
My first pg was great - no real problems except rib pain and indegestion from about wk 26. Had a really good birth experience, (helped by wicked epidural!!) no stitches and have a really laid back baby which is probably why I am SO keen to get going again!
Have a whole stash of tests waiting. Tried to do the OPKs but couldn't get on with them and don't want to be doing the temperature thing just. Want to resist it all getting a bit 'mechanical'. Bd every night for about 2.5-3 weeks is a bit tiring though!
Keep in touch and let me know how things pan out for you!

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 21:33

Flippa - sounds like we had pretty much the same experiences. My birth was brilliant due to fantastic epidural. I always said I would take pain killers as I had no intention of being a martyr. Loved every minute of the pregnancy and the delivery. Also have a friend who was trying at the same time as me and who is now nearly 3 months pregnant. Love her to bits but annoyed that I haven't done that to. She had sex once that month and got pregnant. Bugger. Will definitely report back.
