Hi there, I am 35 and TTC. We've had two early miscarriages and a neonatal death following a v premature birth. Currently in the 2WW of our third cycle of trying to conceive. Feeling hopeful but anxious.

Sorry to hear of your losses

Also - guess your aware of the pregnancy loss review /law change from jul this yr re progesterone

Should you concieve & then should you bleed early in next pregnancy - you can get / be given progesterone

worldwidetravel2017 · 19/10/2023 17:00

We are hoping we will be able to throw afew chances in the hat around ovulation time after ct scan
Depends on when exactly ovulation is etc

Body / cycles still bit out of sync since early miscarriage

Last period was longer than it would usually be

worldwidetravel2017 · 19/10/2023 17:05

Thank you, I wasn't aware of the change, but just read a bit about it. I was prescribed progesterone in my most recent miscarriage (late July) when I first experienced bleeding so I guess that was due to the recent change

Dya have your vit d checked 3 monthly?
Are you aware of the vit d deficiency & miscarriage link ?

I was also advised to take Vitamin D in my most recent pregnancy, but I don't think it was included with the blood tests we did following our third trimester loss. I've got an appointment with a recurrent miscarriage specialist in December (assuming we don't get pregnant before then) so I'm going to add Vit D testing to my list of questions to ask them! Thank you.

Most brits get / are deficient in uk winter

Actimel drink is good - has 1/3 of vit d daily in

They've also got some in Tesco with full daily vit d in - particularly as uk winter / less sun...

It took me 3 / 4 months earlier this year to get mine from 33 to 77

And now its90

Not sure if youve read the it starts with an egg - the book - but many believe its best to try and get vit d to near / around 100 as an optimal level

Taking 2000 iu a day vit D supplement can be good

Also - did you get your folate checked ?
Folic acid comes in different forms - not everyones body absorbs same form

Picked up some Actimel on the way home. They also have the 100% vit D one in Asda. However because I am on slimming world I went for the 0% fat and added sugar one which only has a third.

@worldwidetravel2017 Yes. Several months ago I went to the GP about my heavy periods and they got an ultrasound done to check for fibroids/ endometriosis. The GP actually never called me back about the results. But the person I saw separately at the hospital about my birth trauma, checked the ultrasound for me and told me it all looked pretty normal. With some "grizzliness" in the lining.
I assumed no news meant it all came back normal. But I should maybe chase the GP about it and get it reconfirmed.

On another note I saw on a Facebook group that there are now homeless to check your progesterone levels. Unlike the blood test you do it over several days, so it gives a fuller picture.

This is the tests

I haven't used them myself. So don't know how well they work. Or how easy to use they are. But thought it might be of interest.

I am tempted to try them out

Thanks

Excuse my maybe dim question though but i wonder how it gives you a number? From a photo of it ?! Via an app.?!

FigandHoney · 19/10/2023 19:14

@worldwidetravel2017 Because I haven't used them yet myself I am not entirely sure. I am not sure if it gives you an actual number. My understanding so far is that it tests if you have over a certain threshold of PdG (by product of progesterone that shows up in your urine). And then you test over several days and you need to be over that threshold for at least 3 days. I think. I need to read more into it and read more reviews before committing. I also think you need to do a baseline test at the start of your cycle.

FigandHoney · 19/10/2023 19:16

@worldwidetravel2017 I love a jacket poatoe. Good to know it helps to it them :P

Cressie2 · 19/10/2023 23:09

Oh @worldwidetravel2017 it’s normal to feel scared and worried and you only imagine the worst but sounds like you’ve got really good doctors on board who are being very thorough.

Quite often a raised Ca125 can be due to a benign condition such as a cyst or fibroids and even pregnancy can raise it. The fact they have ruled out ovarian cancer etc is really positive.

I’ve had a CT before and it’s super chilled and nothing to worry about. Keep positive. You’ll have peace of mind within a few weeks ❤️

EvelynKatie · 19/10/2023 23:42

Well AF didn’t show today, weird as I’ve been so on time with my cycles so far. (BFN yesterday, 2 days of dropping temps and cramps so I am out). The only thing I did different this month was to start taking magnesium again, and I hoped it might extend my luteal phase. Normally only 10 days long so I’ll have made it to 11 days tomorrow for the first time, so maybe it’s helped.
