Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

Congrats @Jaystarlight!

welcome @Butterfly2000! I’m 10 dpo today and came down with the most horrendous cold/flu yesterday. Had been thinking I felt really weird but now realise it was the slow flu onset! In the past I’ve been able to see faint positives at 10dpo but this cycle was such a joke (only dtd once in fw and he didn’t fully ejaculate inside) I’m going to leave it until after AF is due (Friday).

Canellita · 29/05/2023 07:13

Hello lovely ladies,

This term geriatric is indeed very misogynistic but this time doctors can all hide behind mother nature to justify it 😂.

I'm 37 and have been TTC for 1 year for my second child. Get anxiety from TTC and don't feel like sharing my thoughts with people around me because they wouldn't understand. My family has a tendency in downplaying any negative emotions so their typical answer would indeed be: "just relax, if you're stressed it'll impact your chances."
Oh and this is meant to help me relax??? The older I get the more I realise that lots of people don't really give advice to help you but to make them feel better or to cut off a conversation they feel uncomfortable with.

But a little bit about myself For the first time since my last pregnancy, I've got sore nipple's which I've never had in a normal cycle. Thought this one was the one, but then the symptoms stopped and now I've cramps... Currently 11 DPO and very regular cycle. I'm expecting AF anytime... Don't want to loose hope but if I look online, I only see the risks of geriatric pregnancy as if they want to discourage you.

Hi I am 40 and trying for my 2nd. My daughter is 15yrs 🙂
I am now 2dpo anyone in a similar boat?

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 07:42

Hi
How are you feeling today? 🙂 this waiting game is awful!
I am 2dpo
My cervix is hard - and no signs yet.

shakesbearded · 29/05/2023 08:21

I'm 39 ttc baby 2, my child is 4. Currently in the tww.

Jaystarlight · 29/05/2023 08:26

thank you @JumpinJellyfish good luck everyone.

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 09:11

I think if you have been trying for a year the nhs will carry out some fertility tests….
it is very stressful … finding the time to DTD over the fertile period.
i work nights and my husband works very long hours.
he was moaning that he cannot do it on demand! When he’s tired. 🙄

anyone tried preseed?

Anonbaby · 29/05/2023 09:24

Hi everyone. I’m 36 and been TTC our third for over 2 years now. Recently found out we have MFI which makes no sense, as we already have two young children. Anyway, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for us without IVF with ICSI, which we’re not going to do. Appreciate I’m lucky to have two beautiful children but I still feel immense pain at not being able to complete our family in the way we had envisaged 💔

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 09:44

What is MFI? ❤️

Anonbaby · 29/05/2023 09:50

@40andtrying1 male factor infertility x

Canellita · 29/05/2023 12:26

@40andtrying1 good luck with TWW. It's always stressful especially towards the end. how are you coping with the wait? I'm at 11 DPO and feeling discouraged.. Also my SO told me today that the whole TTC thing is causing a sort of burn out. Not looking forward to the discussion we're gonna have...

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 13:22

Hi!
I am coping okay but I’m just worried this may never happen. This is our third cycle trying.
aww why do you feel discouraged? Did you feel twinges 2dpo? - I am but I think it is the usual - egg travelling down the Fallopian tube. ☺️
Good luck with your chat! I haven’t spoken to hubby today, still annoyed with him. He had one job yesterday lol.

Stillwinston · 29/05/2023 14:53

Oh wow, didn't check messages for a few hours and there's so many new members! Welcome everyone, so nice to have you join us 😀 hopefully you'll all find this thread to be as supportive as we've found it.

And thanks to everyone who recommended fertility clinics, next steps for us is to definitely reach out and get the ball rolling. I'm 11dpo and had another stark white test this morning so pretty certain I'm out once again (will be cycle 25 for me for those of you who just joined) - although I should be used to the disappointment by now I'm finding it's getting harder each month that goes by 👎🏻 at least the weather is lovely so that's one upshot!

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 16:24

Hi thank you for your kind words to us all.
I believe the NHS will carry out fertility tests if you have been trying for a year, do you know if this is true?
I hope you get pregnant soon @Stillwinston, I cannot imagine how stressful it is for you. I have been trying for three months. I am currently 2dpo. X

Stillwinston · 29/05/2023 16:36

Hi @40andtrying1 😊 it may differ dependant on your primary NHS authority but I thought that if you're over 35 and you've been trying for 6 months then they can get the ball rolling on testing etc - could be very wrong though. Exciting that you're in the TWW, any symptoms yet?

It took us 2 years to conceive my son so my hubby and I agreed to try for the same time this time around and then go for tests/treatment if we weren't pregnant by that point. Feels a bit of a stupid decision now as I know that it might take months to even reach a treatment plan let alone get pregnant so I'm kind of kicking myself now 🤦🏼‍♀️

SarahShorty · 29/05/2023 16:37

As far as I know, the NHS won't be interested in helping you with fertility unless you;

  • are 35 years old and have been trying for a year
  • are over 35 years old and have been trying for 6 months
  • have no kids
Stillwinston · 29/05/2023 16:42

That's really helpful @SarahShorty, thanks for clarifying 😊 we're not even bothering to go via NHS as we already have our son so just jumping straight to private clinics (hopefully might speed things up a little bit 🤞🏻)

OP posts:
40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 17:45

very wise going private, everything will be fine very swiftly.
I hope your right. I will get the ball rolling ASAP,. I am only 2dpo, I’ve had twinges - in what feels like my ovary or Fallopian tube. Same side I ovulated on. Do you think this is the egg travelling down to the uterus, in which case it won’t be a symptom as this happens every month? 😆
im so impatient!

Anonbaby · 29/05/2023 18:23

The NHS have been very helpful for us, carrying out all initial testing. However, we knew we wouldn’t be entitled to any treatment beyond ovulation induction due to having children already. But they have been great with rest x

Downtherabbithole83 · 29/05/2023 20:08

10dpo here (I think…) but no signs again this month. With both my tfmr pregnancy and last chemical I had increased discharge as my first sign of a positive (I believe we’ve agreed there’s no such thing as tmi in this group, right?! 😂) and I’ve not had anything like that… seems like I’m ticking another month off. I have managed to resist testing though which I’m taking as a win… got celebrate what you can, right?!

Butterfly2000 · 29/05/2023 20:28

@Stillwinston Thanks for starting this thread! Thanks something different about discussing ttc with women my own age.
@40andtrying1 I'm also 2dpo. I think it's 3 or 6 months for women over 35. We're on cycle 4, GP thankfully has been great and getting tests done swiftly and then a referral. By the time you're seen it could be 6 months anyway (hopefully not 🤞🏽) And I'm sure some will just say it's been 6 months to get the ball rolling. I don't see why they couldn't just do your blood tests initially.
@Downtherabbithole83 I'm learning that nothing is tmi haha! We're all going through similar anyway

40andtrying1 · 29/05/2023 21:37

I feel really tired, shattered. Probably not a symptom. Just fed up, working too hard, stress.. I hope it isn’t affecting my fertility.

do you notice any symptoms?@Butterfly2000

Butterfly2000 · 29/05/2023 22:39

@40andtrying1 A bit of cramping and back pain on one side today. Not reading too much into though. Am aiming not to test till maybe 10dpo or till AF is due. I don't think we dtd enough. I drove myself crazy last cycle so just try to stay calm and focus on putting good things into my body and looking after myself.
I know it's easier said than done but try and distract yourself, log your symptoms but don't focus too much on them. Got anything nice planned to distress?
Have you noted any symptoms yet?

Butterfly2000 · 30/05/2023 00:17

Just looking for some advice please before I start overthinking! 🙈 Cramps/pain on the right side getting worse over the last couple of hrs. So bad they're distracting me now. Lh peak was cd9 and what I thought was ovulation pain on cd10 but it wasn't as bad as this pain. Could I actually be ovulating yesterday/today? Knowing my luck it's probably just wind! 😂
