@TheBirdintheCave can hubby not do it for you? I must admit after about day 4 of those injections I had to pump myself up to do it

FfoxRedN · 19/04/2023 10:46

@TheBirdintheCave I have seen loads of women use those freezer ice gel packs to numb first, could that be worth trying? xx

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 19/04/2023 11:00

@FfoxRedN I'm definitely going to try numbing it first :) I'm sure once I've done one it'll be ok... I hope 😂

@bringmearainbow Husband has a needle phobia so he's no help 🙄I'll definitely make sure he's in the room for moral support though.

bringmearainbow · 19/04/2023 11:03

@TheBirdintheCave well he's no help 😂

FfoxRedN · 19/04/2023 12:01

@TheBirdintheCave how long do you have to do them for? I know it's a challenge but hopefully it'll be just the once for EC and it means you're moving forward in your journey! Scary but also exciting 🥰 xxx

@TheBirdintheCave ahh bless you. Injecting yourself is like against nature though. It’s human instinct to not what to do it.

I had to do fragmin/dalteparin injection for 6 months in my last pregnancy. From 28 weeks to 6 weeks postpartum. So I did 100s of injections on myself. So I figured I need to get used to it. The first few times were hard. An the first time I almost like jabbed and stabbed myself cos I so was so scared lol 😂🙈 but after about a week I became a pro.
so this time when I needed just 10 days of fragmin injections. I was like no bother, it’s now a breeze. I only got 4 left. But I’d of not batted an eyelid had I of needed 6 weeks.

Best advice I can give is try to learn to do it yourself. 1. It quickly become very easy and for me I found it easier being in control.
usually with injections if you look at the needle there is like one side which has the slant and one side which doesn’t. I find it helps to angle the slant bit away as you feel it less.
Also don’t just stab yourself quickly. It’s easier to put the top of the needle to the skin. Not sure where you have to do them? Tummy or thigh? Preferably find a bit of skin which looks paler like little patches. These bits are fattier tissue. Again hardly feel if it you inject a fatty bit 🙂
so put the needle to the fatty bit of skin gently whilst gripping the skin. And just gently push. Then let go of the skin and inject it slowly. Helps incase any meds inside it are stingy. An then once all injected remove the needle and put a bit of pressure on with a cotton wall ball or just a finger. Helps to limit bruising.

Honestly I tried numerous different avenues and I’ve found this my golden go to for injecting. I hardly feel it if at all. And no bruising

TheBirdintheCave · 19/04/2023 12:54

@FfoxRedN Up to 12 days but hopefully not that long. From day six I have to do two a day and the second one (aptly named Fyremadel) burns apparently 🙄

@Indianna2006 Thank you so much for all of the tips! That's really kind of you to write all of that out. They told me I could do thigh or tummy but I have a huge fear of thigh injections now as my first Fragmin was in my thigh and ye gods that hurt. Ten days was definitely enough for me for that I can't imagine months of it 😱

Alexis7890 · 19/04/2023 15:45

@TheBirdintheCave are they ones you mix yourself or ones in a pre filled pen? I’ve only ever used the pens/husband did them for me. Definitely the fatty bits on your tummy, and try to avoid going too close to where you did previous ones, I always found the closer they are the more it stings especially if it’s a really recent one. Try to get a good size pinch of flesh to jab into. The first few I had to really psych myself up for but then it was mostly fine just the occasional stingy day. You got this!!

TheBirdintheCave · 19/04/2023 16:17

@Alexis7890 Luckily it's the pens so I don't have to think about it too much other than screwing on the needle and cranking it to the right dosage. I'll try and switch sides each day to keep them far apart from each other :)

Alexis7890 · 19/04/2023 16:25

@TheBirdintheCave ooh that’s good it’s the pens, they are really easy to prep and store etc. oh and make sure the dose is actually down to 0 before taking it out, sometimes it’s like the mechanism gets stuck (only happened a couple of times) if it goes to zero then you’re all good 😊

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 13:39

I am struggling to concentrate so badly this week doesn't help I've been so dizzy all week which is making my head feel fuzzy. Got a blood test tonight and then a scan tomorrow I just want it to be the end of the day so I can get my blood test and then get to bed

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 13:51

@bringmearainbow the headaches are real aren't they! Don't wish the symptoms away though. I've felt sick everyday but today barely anything...which peaks my anxiety! As much as feeling sick is annoying when it goes I miss it.
How far along will you be tomorrow? Xx

OP posts:
bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 14:23

@FfoxRedN my boobs are more sore today but I haven't had any sickness yet just this constant dizziness. Tbh I don't mind the symptoms like you say they help. I'll be 5+5 but I know I'll be behind so I think they'll be lucky to see much 🤷🏼‍♀️ when is your next scan?

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 14:29

@bringmearainbow the dates are all out anyway. I know I am 8+4 and she's telling me I'm 8+1 🤷🏼‍♀️. They should still see something! 🥰. My boobs didn't hurt until 7 weeks but now they're pretty swollen and achey. Dizziness sounds awful though.
I have one on the 2nd May and then just had to re-arrange the nuchal one for the 23rd. It's a long wait in between those but DH is away and then so am I so it's the first date we'll be together. By my dates I'll be 13+2 then: hopefully 🙏🏼 Xx

Alexis7890 · 20/04/2023 14:32

@bringmearainbow hope the blood test and scan goes well!! I’ve been really lightheaded the last couple of days, literally had to lie on the kitchen floor earlier I thought I was going to faint, I have fainted before and felt the exact same. Are we the same dates?! I’m 5+5 due date 16th dec?!

@FfoxRedN boob pain and tiredness are pretty much all I’ve had apart from this mornings events. Not long until 2nd may!! You will get there I’m keeping the faith for you!!

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 14:46

@FfoxRedN true they will change them accordingly im not going to worry myself with it. I will be happy with a sac in the right place and a yolk would be good too 🤞🏼 a yolk would be one step more than I got last time 😬 ahhh at least you'll be busy with other things to try and help distract. How has DH been a bit better?

@Alexis7890 thanks lovely. I mean yes I am but in reality I know I'm likely only 5/5+1 from peak opk but obv nhs don't date from that so I'm fully expecting to be out behind at dating scan etc my app says due date of 22nd. oh I feel you it's so strange I've never had it in any of my other pregnancies I hope I don't get dizzy and sick at the same time one or the other please 😂 I might see if they will check my blood pressure tonight see if it's low. I stopped taking my iron tablets as wasn't sure if I needed them and didn't want to overdose the baby on iron but midwife said it's fine to carry on taking them even if I don't have low iron so started those again incase it's low iron causing the dizziness

Alexis7890 · 20/04/2023 14:53

@bringmearainbow ah fair enough, I suppose they date me differently from the start because of fertility treatment so every date is known basically to the hour! The dizziness is horrible, I have a history of fainting but usually it’s if I’m really stressed, I’m so glad I mostly wfh at the moment, I don’t know how people manage dealing with in person people on this hormone rollercoaster. Oh dizzy and sick together would be a horrendous feeling! Let’s hope not! Worth giving the iron a go and asking them to check your blood pressure, nothing to lose by having it checked.

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 15:19

@Alexis7890 😂 I work in an office full of women but luckily have my own quiet corner so they don't irritate me too much. I have struggled to be in the office and be effective though it's hard to concentrate.

DH sister asked me this morning if I wanted tickets to the polar express if she could get some I had to say yes because we've spoken about taking the kids many times and they don't know yet 🙈 I might give birth on the polar express 🤣

Alexis7890 · 20/04/2023 15:50

@bringmearainbow have you told your colleagues? It’s so hard to concentrate on anything isn’t it! Even when I’m not feeling like a zombie I still can’t concentrate on anything, won’t be a productive 9 months 😂 aww the polar express will be brilliant and hopefully not too eventful 😂 can you book early December just in case?!

LuckyMoonstone · 20/04/2023 15:54

@bringmearainbow we did the polar express with DS last year, it was really lovely! We went late Nov and it was still really Christmassy. Maybe go early as you can and try not to get too excited 😂

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 16:00

@Alexis7890 @LuckyMoonstone sorry I meant SIL doesn't know we're pregnant yet and she knows I haven't got anything else booked in so I can't turn round and say yes but please try to make it the beginning 😂 tbh I'll be surprised if she got tickets she was a very large number in the que 🙈 but I would def love to do it it looks so much fun

@Alexis7890 yes all my work ladies know I can't sit here and pretend to be fine I'm a terrible liar and now they bring me tea and snacks 😂

LuckyMoonstone · 20/04/2023 16:20

@bringmearainbow oh no what if she books it on your due date 😂

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 16:22

😂 I'll have to just hope and pray I can go. I think tbh she'll aim for early in dec I'm not due until 22nd so I reckon she won't book anything that close to Christmas or basically that's what I'm counting on 🤣

bringmearainbow · 20/04/2023 16:24

@LuckyMoonstone we would have told them already but MIL made a big thing after the first MC about not wanting to know about our next baby until the 12 week scan because it was too hard 🙄 she had no choice but to know about the next MC because we were back and forth to the hospital a lot and she was helping with DS. I suppose we'll just have to wait until 12 weeks to tell them all though I won't be hiding anything and I've got a lovely bloated belly 😂

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 16:31

@bringmearainbow I remember that! I'm glad to hear you're bloated too though 😂. My work trousers have become a little snug over the last week! We may have to tell parents at 10 weeks as we're booked for white water rafting which I was so excited about and they'll know somethings fishy if I just cancel 😖. As someone else has said, nothing will change the outcome, if it ends in MC it'll be the first they know about. You can't protect everyone from everything, just do what's right for you xx

@TheBirdintheCave how are you feeling about ordering your meds tomorrow hun? Xx
