7dpo bleeding but NOT implantation

HollyP21 · 20/02/2023 14:50

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to find someone who may have experienced something similar as I am at a loss. We started TTC 3 months ago. I can pinpoint ovulation through OPK and tracking temp. Roughly 7DPO I get bleeding which I initially thought was implantation bleeding but I’ve not had any BFP. The bleeding comes the same time every cycle, lasts for about a week on and off (not enough to fill a pad but can have sudden gushes that leak through my underwear and some clotting - usually dark brown) and then finishes and my periods comes. It’s definitely not my period as my BBT remains elevated and it’s on and off - my period is always on time and lasts 5 days with no on/off. This cycle I had very bad cramps with the bleeding too - I never normally have bad cramps. This literally only started when TTC and it’s clearly not implantation, and it’s been 3 cycles in a row so it’s not a one off. I’ve had my progesterone tested and my levels came back as normal. Not been on hormonal birth control in years, I eat clean, am a healthy weight and regularly exercise. Any help would be SO much appreciated- I am losing my mind! Thank you xxx

@HollyP21 ooh that's good then if it's not come yet! Got my fingers crossed it stays away for you 🤞🏻

Yeah am UK based and actually surprised at how quickly I've been referred to the hospital. My first GP appointment was only a month ago and in that time I've had blood tests and hosp appt already booked for next week! DH also been offered a sperm analysis which he's going to do in the next few weeks. How has your experience been? It really does just seem a postcode lottery!

This is only our 4th cycle of trying so not that long really, the only reason I already went docs is to figure out the spotting, even without TTC I want to know what's going on/it's very annoying to have this every month, basically bleeding for as much as I am not 🙄 how long have you been trying?

Mushroo · 14/04/2023 12:48

I’m 6dpo and so far so good, but I’ve checked back and the last two months were 7dpo exactly for spotting so tomorrow is the ‘big day’. I’m glad it’s a Saturday so I can keep busy.

@Piglet34 thats so good re the referrals. I think if it happens again this month I’m going to push my GP for a referral.
Or try and get it under my private health insurance as unexplained bleeding rather than linked to TTC.

I just really want a normal month.

Mushroo · 14/04/2023 12:49

Forgot to say this will be my third month of trying.

HollyP21 · 14/04/2023 14:07

We're all pretty similar then @Mushroo @Piglet34 as this is our 5th month of trying. Yeah I'm hoping to make it through today without any bleeding!

My doctor has also been pretty quick about it actually - it must be the unexplained bleeding pushing it forward as my friend (also UK based) has been trying for 18 months and they haven't even given her the referral to the fertility clinic yet. So frustrating for her. I went to the doctor first in February and had my bloods done the week after and my partners the week after that. He had his sperm test this week and then I'm hoping I will have my appointment. Going to push for a hycosy test I think as I read women are 25% more fertile after having that! Xxx

7dpo and tentative so far so good.

TMI but the spotting usually starts after a bowel movement and it hasn’t so a positive sign.

I really hope this cycle is better, if it is looks like I’m destined to eat a bunch of seeds forever.

Lana32 · 15/04/2023 14:49

Hi everyone - just wanted to drop a note after coming across the thread and realising how familiar it felt to me! I had spotting on and off (usually every 2nd month) throughout my 7 months TTC - completely unexplained and bloods normal. Before TTC I would have had maybe 2 days of spotting before AF arrived, but definitely extended to a 6-7 days since TTC.

Never did get to the bottom of it but I got my BFP nearly 2 weeks ago and am now 5 weeks pregnant. I did still have some very light spotting before my AF would have arrived this month but I’m hoping that might just be implantation bleeding!

Definitely interested in following peoples progress here as I’m still so curious as to what caused this!

Scottishrock · 15/04/2023 16:13

This used to happen to me too, especially right after I came off the pill for the first time to TTC, it was annoying as felt like I was on my period for ages!! Spotting for at least a week then getting a proper period with cramps. I also had bad skin and horrendous period pain.

My DH and I were being careful for the first 6 months I was off the pill, then after we got married in November we’ve been trying but not pg yet. However I’ve noticed in the last few cycles the spotting has been much shorter, this month I had spotting for 2 days then AF started which seems more normal, so I’m hoping whatever the issue was is resolving itself. Tbh I’m putting it down to crazy hormones from stopping the pill after about 16 years of taking it!

HollyP21 · 15/04/2023 22:21

@Scottishrock @Lana32 thanks both for sharing!! It's a relief to know we are not alone especially when so hard to find answers!!

@Lana32 congrats on your BFP! There is hope for us weird bleeders 😂 can I ask if you tried anything in particular to help? Seed cycling? Acupuncture etc? Xxx

Is your smear up to date ?? Xx

Mushroo · 16/04/2023 07:36

@Lana32 you give us hope! I really am hoping it’s just ‘one of those things’.

@Felixss yes all up to date. I’m not too worried it’s anything like that as it’s been so linked to TTC and only happens since trying. Thank you though :)

HollyP21 · 16/04/2023 07:52

@Felixss same here - smear is all up to date and only started when TTC!

@Mushroo any bleeding yet? I'm on 9DPO and nothing yet...crossing all fingers and toes it won't happen this month! X

@HollyP21 I tried a couple of things but hard to pinpoint which, if any, of them made a difference.

I did seed-cycle during the month I conceived, and for about 2 months beforehand. I also put a real focus on getting good quality vitamins, and changed up my prenatal to include methyl folate rather than folic acid. I also made sure my pre-natal included Vit B6 to help regulate hormones and took vitamin d, omega 3, a probiotic and CoQ10 separately.

I had planned on trying acupuncture but ended up having to cancel my appointment so never made it in the end - I know some people on here swear they’ve had great success with it though!

Mushroo · 16/04/2023 08:01

@HollyP21 not yet! Keeping everything crossed. If both of us are ok this month I’m buying stocks in seeds 😂

Ive also been really trying for more than 5 a day fruit / veg so that may have helped? Still too early to say I’m out of the woods but so far so good…

Have you done anything different this month other than seed cycling?

HollyP21 · 16/04/2023 08:08

@Mushroo similar to you - I try to eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, organic meat where possible and have been taking supplements (a multi vit with B6, choline, inositol, CoQ10, NAC for cervical mucus, ashwawagandha, and like @Lana32 I switched from folic acid to folate as heard this is better for use by body). I've also stopped caffeine, alcohol, I've only been doing gentle exercise, I've also been trying to limit chemicals I may be exposed to. It seems like the seeds might be key though if that's something all three of us have done and might be having results with. Definitely sticking to those!! Xx

OP posts:
HollyP21 · 16/04/2023 08:09

@Mushroo oh and I take a high dose of vitamin D as my bloods showed I was slightly on the low side with that and I've read vit D can be linked to spotting xx

OP posts:
Mushroo · 16/04/2023 08:13

Definitely! I might make the folate switch as well although when I had blood tests my folate levels were actually above the limit so I’m probably ok there.

Its crazy how much has changed, before TTC I was so laidback, took zero vitamins, ate ok but would skip breakfast, have lots of caffeine, enjoyed wine.

Im now a woman on mission like an LA health guru 😂 so many berries, seeds, nuts, organic food, no plastic.

Even if nothing else I feel like the healthy switch has got to be good overall!

Lana32 · 16/04/2023 08:37

@Mushroo I was the exact same - health conscious to the extreme!! 😂 I really hope both you and @HollyP21 get your BFP’s this month! Please keep us updated!

Mushroo · 16/04/2023 11:46

Spotting has started :/

Very light but there nonetheless. I’m so annoyed as really thought I’d cracked it this month!

Slight hope it’s implantation bleeding but realistically I know it’s not.

Going to push for fertility treatment I think now as three months in a row. Might cut out caffeine and see if that helps at all.

HollyP21 · 16/04/2023 15:40

@Mushroo oh no I'm so sorry 😭😭😭 I was really rooting for you! Have you had your vitamin d levels tested? Maybe a high dose of that and see if it helps. I know exactly how you feel - by month 3 I was feeling so low and like it was pointless. But there is definitely hope!!

I've had my MRI today so should get results by next week so will let you know if anything comes back from that! Xx

Can I join? 35 ttc#1 on cycle 3.

For the last 6 months been having 5-6 days spotting before AF. Been to GP and had ultrasound, prelim results ok but waiting for report. Progesterone was fine. So a bit puzzled. Glad to hear some of you have been successful even with bleeding. Currently 8dpo, usually spotting will.syart tomorrow nso 🤞 it doesn't.

Thank you, I was feeling really positive . So far it’s not as much as normal so for now taking that as a small step in the right direction.

I’ll definitely try the Vit D and going to order some coq10.

Also if AF is here can enjoy all the sangria and tapas on holiday in a couple of weeks.

How are you getting on? Still all good?

@Un7breakable welcome welcome! It’s actually somewhat reassuring there’s now a few of us.

HollyP21 · 16/04/2023 20:27

@Mushroo yes a holiday sounds like a good call! Nice to enjoy it without worrying - I'm sure the time to relax will do wonders as well!

Currently no bleeding yet 🤞🤞🤞 but first cycle I had it, it started on 10DPO/11DPO so will wait until AF to feel like I'm really out of the woods! Going to try not to take an early pregnancy test as well as it gets me so upset when they're negative! Anyone else feel this way? Going to have to use my willpower not to use them anymore as it's not good for my head!

@Un7breakable welcome!! It's crazy that this is a thing and there's literally no answers anywhere about bleeding that only starts when TTC!

OP posts:
Un7breakable · 16/04/2023 20:39

@HollyP21 tbf mine started before I started TTC but it was the odd day here or there instead of a week before and at odd points in the cycle. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I try not to test early because I just then say to myself oh maybe it's too early. I'll test Friday which is when AF is due, which usually means I test and a few hours later she shows up.

Mushroo · 17/04/2023 09:36

@HollyP21 thats great! All my fingers crossed for you.

Im going to keep an eye on spotting and my BBT and weigh up whether to test, don’t think I can be bothered going early just for a negative.

So far I’ve only had the tiniest amount (as in, blink and you’ll miss it) whereas before it was very very obvious. So for now taking that as a step forward.

HollyP21 · 17/04/2023 16:50

@Mushroo yeah that definitely sounds like a win!! Maybe it is these seeds after all!

Still no bleeding here - but AF isn't due until Friday so I won't be relieved until then! Xxx
