Cheryl Cole just said at 39 she's too old to have another biological baby. What's your thoughts?
I'm genuinely curious as someone who's nearly 38 I'm still trying for my first baby.
Can a healthy pregnancy be possible?
At 39 apparently half your eggs would be deemed chromosomally abnormal.
What's your experience on getting pregnant at this age?

Is she just using her age as an excuse to outsource work that is too difficult and messy for her to deal with? Ie using a surrogate.

You do understand how a surrogate works?
That would be a biological child.

She actually has spoken about the option of adopting as she would like to help a baby/ child.

You sound very judgmental considering you obviously haven't read the interview

BlueBox81 · 24/01/2023 17:03

Oh yeh! And all of these babies were accidents!

CousinKrispy · 24/01/2023 17:04

It's fine for her to feel it's too old for her personally.

I had DD at 39 and my mum had me at 45! Both perfectly normal (well...) and didn't have to go to any particular effort to conceive or have problems in pregnancy.

Phrenologistsfinger · 24/01/2023 17:04

Well, between 37-40, I have had 13 naturally conceived miscarriages!

Out of 47 eggs collected in IVF (4 rounds) at 39-40, 24 eggs fertilised but only 7 made it to day 5/6 embryos. Of those 7, 3 are genetically abnormal, 2 are untested but probably abnormal, 1 is genetically a bit ropey and 1 is normal. Drs say we are statistically average for our age!

We are certainly pushing our biology as hard as we can, including with growth hormone and a billion supplements… will it work? Probably not!

ManyNameChanges · 24/01/2023 17:04

At 39yoi wasn’t worried that my eggs were too old. That’s a lot if rubbish Imo.

But 39yo was my cut off because I felt I didn’t want to continue raising a child until I was 60yo. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Trixiefirecracker · 24/01/2023 17:08

I don’t know why everyone quick to defend Cole. I can’t forget her racial assault on that woman. She’s a nasty piece of work and talks a lot of bollocks.

Because the two things are completely unrelated?

Seagully7 · 24/01/2023 17:09

Had my 5th healthy baby at 41

Is Cheryl Cole actually only 39 though or is her real age a few years older?

39 is not too old to have a biological baby.

Yes she'd 39 and probably feels to old for her

Hopikins · 24/01/2023 17:11

My brothers were 21 and 14 when I was born to our Mum of 40. No problems, she had 8 sisters and the majority had children in their 40s. This was in the 1940s when the health service in this country was not brilliant. No N.H.S until 1948

bobbytorq · 24/01/2023 17:11

I think it totally depends. I wouldn't want to be parenting a teenager in my fifties. There is the health side of things but also the social element. I'm just gaining a sense of being able to do things independent of my kids again.

Changemaname1 · 24/01/2023 17:11

I’m a few years younger than this but I also say I’m to old for any more

what I mean by this is Iv been parenting for 15 years now and don’t want to start over

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 24/01/2023 17:13

39 is not TOO old. I think the oldest I would have had a baby would be 36-37, (just my opinion! Smile) but 39 is not too old.

ReadtheReviews · 24/01/2023 17:13

First at 34, second at 39. Within month of trying. Had fantastic elcs. Only thing different was I didnt produce the same copious amount of milk and she gave up bf at 6m.
Now at 42 I feel too old...to commit to another 5 years of crap sleep etc. I just know I feel worn down. Maybe thats what she means, that level of tiredness.

Doowop1919 · 24/01/2023 17:13

Each to their own. For me, it's too old. I wanted my children before 35 and despite fertility issues, I managed it. But if someone told me they were trying at 40, I wouldn't think anything of it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/01/2023 17:14

She’s allowed to comment on her own situation, she’s not passing judgement on anyone else, not even mildly inferring it. There are some very chippy and unnecessary responses to a woman with a public platform discussing her own body and family.

Celebrities who make it seem easy to conceive in their 40s are given the same treatment and criticised for being unrealistic and irresponsible.

They can’t win.

We all make the best decisions for ourselves, thankfully that’s still allowed.

honeylulu · 24/01/2023 17:14

Biologically it is old though. It may be possible but it's less likely and there are higher chances of miscarriage, abnormality, pregnancy complications etc. Then you'll be pushing 60 before the child is going to uni, maybe 70 by the time grandchildren arrive (or 80 if your offspring also wait until 40ish to have a baby). It's doable and probably very rewarding if it works out but a lot of women might consider it and think it feels "too old" for any of those reasons and more.

For full disclosure I had my youngest just a few days before my 40th birthday. Hugely rewarding and never regretted but if I could have had her younger (secondary infertility so 10 years between my two kids) I would have done.

Delladon · 24/01/2023 17:14

Had my last DS just before I turned 40. Pregnancy was fine. I had a chromosomally abnormal pregnancy at 39 which didn't make it past 5 months. I was definitely done after the following baby who is now 3. My neck, back and knees hurt and I just want a few years of sleeping at night before the menopause decides to play havoc with it again. My youngest is a absolute whirlwind so I'm definitely feeling it this time around 😅

Silverbook · 24/01/2023 17:15

I had my first at 38 within 6 months of TTC. Perfectly healthy baby. Very straightforward pregnancy and delivery.

Faradalla · 24/01/2023 17:15

Got pregnant with number 3 very quickly 6 months before I turned 39. Easy conception, easy pregnancy, healthy baby. Took a year to conceive my first child aged 31!

Jungfraujoch · 24/01/2023 17:16

I was 42 with my youngest - now a strapping nearly 18 year old!

WombatChocolate · 24/01/2023 17:16

She didn’t say No-ONE should have a baby at 39. She was speaking for herself.

Everyone has to make the decision for themselves about when they do t want to have any more children, within the realms of what is physically possible. For lots of women, they feel too old for it by early or mid 30s. For others it’s 40 or 45.

Feeling too old for it, isn’t the same as not being able to conceive or to physically have a healthy baby. She wasn’t commenting on the latter nor making a comment about what other people should do or feel.

Interesting

There's a generational aspect here I guess

For my parents, parenting teens coincided with getting freedom back. Though they mostly put that extra time into a side hustle. They were a lot more energetic than lazy ass me!

Is that you Cheryl?
A. Yes I understand how surrogacy works, many women use donor eggs for surrogacy for a variety of reasons so yes, not necessarily their biological child.
B. There have been reports in the newspapers about her considering surrogacy, who knows if they are true or not?
C. You seem pretty judgemental yourself.
