SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

@allgoodthings84 I had some good cramps earlier but it's mild. I will get it and off until ovulation.

So CD 8 ✅ CD 10 ✅ CD 12/peak pending 😅

@NSx good luck trying it out ☺️

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 18:53

@Aurora81 ooo I’m glad to know a little feeling in the ovaries doesn’t necessarily mean ovulation has already happened. I’m CD11 now and peak today so I’m guessing ovulation tomorrow then the dreaded 2ww

NatGee · 09/08/2022 19:29

@NSx got mine in the post today too, itll still be a good week and a half before I use it though.

NatGee · 09/08/2022 19:34

@allgoodthings84 is it that his sperm will be affected in three months time? Should be OK for now - hope this puts your mind at ease xx

@Aurora81 ah brilliant!! youre well ahead, nearly ovulating. thatll mean youll be one of the first to test and see if SMEP worked for you. Your peak will happen any minute now 👏

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 19:57

@NatGee nah I’ve read a few places and on here that it’s the 3 months from testing positive for covid as affects the sperm already there or something which now makes sense if it’s 3 months to generate. Some say the worse the illness or a temperature affects it more so if that’s the case we may have got away with it as he was only really poorly for 48 hours and no temperature measuring on the thermometer so fingers crossed 🤞

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 19:57

I can’t wait to see lots of bfp here!

@NatGee I usually get 2 x high, and then peak. My cheapie opks are negative, and probably will darken a bit tomorrow. My DH's SA said the progression was 2-3, so I hope SMEP does the trick, and I usually ovulate about 12-24 hours after a peak... As in my ovulation pain intensifies.

@allgoodthings84 oh goodness!! 😬 I didn't realise that 🤭 I think @NSx is not too far behind me.

NSx · 09/08/2022 20:34

Hi ladies -

tried my fertilily for the first time, was a bit fiddly at first but went in easily enough (we used preseed during DTD to help the swimmers lol) I think once you’ve used it a couple of times u will get the hang of it, I was worried it was going to get lost 😂😂😂 but it didn’t ….
u can keep it in for max 1 hour, I stayed 20 mins as recommended in bed, just Incase then the other 40 mins I moved around … nothing seemed to come out so clearly did it’s job.
I managed to remove it pretty easily - so let’s see …
I think practising to put it in will be key 🔑

now let’s see if it works - I’m only on cd8 but first DTD of SMEP is complete ✅

Blue2020 · 09/08/2022 20:35

@NatGee @allgoodthings84 i have read a few studies that it’s just after recovering from the virus, it’s something like 56 or 63 days that some studies noticed low count/ irregular shapes etc but could be longer. I think it’s linked to having a fever but I’m not sure.

My dh had covid early last month and had a temp. We are trying but I have low expectations atm.

EdinburghGirl1 · 09/08/2022 20:51

@NSx glad to hear it went well and just feel good now the SMEP has actually began

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 20:53

@Blue2020 I’m the same. Not expecting anything but going to give it a good try just in case as there may still be some good ones in there so nothing lost and all

Mum2DD89 · 09/08/2022 21:03

@Aurora81 @allgoodthings84 ahh so exciting you're ovulating soon!

Keep the faith ladies ❤️

Big tick box @NSx youre all set now lets hope it pays off. Crossing my fingers for you, and all the ladies here and for me ☺️☺️

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 21:22

@NSx fingers crossed it works for you 🤞

Aurora81 · 09/08/2022 21:31

@Mum2DD89 thank you so much ✨ it's hard to keep the faith, but I will definitely try! 😊

@NSx omg!! 🤭 I didn't want to say that earlier but my first thought was what if it doesn't come back out 😬 glad it did 😅 congratulations on completing level 1 CD 8 👏🏻

@allgoodthings84 sorry the last message was for @NatGee and I meant to type this to you...

I found it confusing before because I would get cramps and I would think that it was always about to ovulate. Do you use opks? I had pains today but I will probably ovulate Thursday or Friday, so how long do you usually get them for. The ads sometimes make the page move and I pressed post too soon.

@EdinburghGirl1 here is another self fertility massage video

NSx · 09/08/2022 21:36

@EdinburghGirl1 it’s defo good to get it started but I just hope it’s successful and it’s not too much, if u get what I mean?
@NatGee when do you start? defo sending baby dust and 🤞 for everyone in here this cycle ❣️
@allgoodthings84 I hope it does, surely it can’t harm you by keeping it up there for longer, logic would suggest it’s more opportunity 😅🤞
@Aurora81 it depends on the angle you are in, but it defo doesn’t get lost, I think u just need to use it a few times to know what to expect 😂😅 I think u and I are first in this cycle - providing I ovulate when expected 😭🤞✨

Aurora81 · 09/08/2022 21:39

@NSx we were cycle buddies too last cycle ✨☺️✨good to hear it's easy to use!! 😊 Fx it does the trick 🤞🏻

NSx · 09/08/2022 21:44

@Aurora81 yes we were, BFP’s for us and all the ladies here this cycle — positive mental attitude 😅🤞✨
at the end of the day we’re doing everything we can - so if it’s meant to be it will be.

im hopeful for us all 🤞✨

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 21:45

@Aurora81 I do use opk. I’ve always felt something around ovulation but until ttc never realised it was because of ovulation iyswim. I’ve peaked today so guessing will be ovulating tomorrow. It’s not really painful and is quick then I usually feel a bit more a couple days later so now thinking that’s the ovulation. Means my cycle will be short this month but it was long last cycle because of covid so this could be to make up for that maybe. It’s only a day shorter so can’t see it making too much difference.

I’m guessing CD12 is ok to ovulate and not toooo early?

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 21:46

@NSx oh absolutely makes complete sense!

NSx · 09/08/2022 21:49

@allgoodthings84 im excited for you, I hope u ovulate tomorrow 🎉 if u do when will u test ? Will u wait til Af (when is she due? ) or will u test 10dpo?

Aurora81 · 09/08/2022 21:52

@allgoodthings84 I ovulated CD 12 last month after getting a peak Cd 11. I was looking back at my bbt charts and in June I got a peak CD 11 and I ovulated CD 13. I think ovulating on CD 12 allows the follicle enough time to develop.

I watched this video last month, as I usually ovulate on CD 14 and I was wondering if it was okay to ovulate on CD 12
allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 21:59

@NSx I’ll be due full on AF 23rd/24th. It’s usually late night or early morning. I won’t test until 25th if AF hasn’t arrived. I would rather have hope and I know if I saw a faint positive early then it disappeared I would only stress so think I would prefer to see a definite line than is it/isn’t it.

I know I’m in the minority I just would hate the squinting or the ups and downs of a negative then hopes up again as still early then another negative and so on. I can be quite inwardly emotional so would feel all the ups and downs

allgoodthings84 · 09/08/2022 22:03

@Aurora81 ah yes I guess I could technically ovulate Thursday not tomorrow I don’t bbt but my resting heart rate suggests next day ovulation but I don’t know for sure when. I’ll be dtd maybe twice tomorrow morning and evening (still trying to decide if it will hinder rather than help?) and will Thursday too to get the 3 days in a row as per SMEP
