SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

Hi all, just wanted to share that SMEP has worked for us this month, got my bfp yesterday so still very early days. Wishing you all get your bfp soon!

NSx · 08/08/2022 12:24

@Aurora81 😂😂😂 I’m starting tomorrow 🎉🎉 wishing us all luck!

@Tubbytele congrats 🎉🎉🎉 can I ask how many months you’ve been trying & did u stick to it religiously ?

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 12:41

@NSx Thank you! This will be my 2nd child as have 2 year old DS. Took 4 cycles, but this was the first cycle of SMEP. The first 3 months we tried near the time I ovulated, but last month I had a weird month where I had an LH surge twice so not sure if I ovulated properly. So tgis month we dtd 10 days straight and stopped a day after I saw that EWCM had gone. This was also the first month I chose not do any opk testing as I was starting to get obsessed so only went by CM and dtd as much as possible.

NSx · 08/08/2022 12:46

@Tubbytele amazing - congratulations again, u give us all hope 🙏🎉

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 12:49

Thank you so much @NSx it's why I posted as ttc can be so hard emotionally and mentally, and reading others success stories always gave me hope too.

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 12:59

Congratulations @Tubbytele 😊

I’m on CD10 so should be dtd but we did it yesterday (and on cd6) and there’s no way my partner will do every day all week so if I want 3 days in a row starting on Peak day then I’m going to have to settle with every other day until then 😂 to be honest I don’t mind as he’s rather ahem large so gets a bit sore by time ovulation happens. He really wants a baby too so will go along with SMEP but not every day for a whole week or two.

I have had on/off EWCM today so thinking it may be near the beginning of my fertile time. As a guess I think ovulation will be CD13/14. My LP will be the same no matter what so I can then predict exactly when AF should arrive so can hold off testing until a day after that. AF is occasionally late but only if I ovulate late. It’s another reason why I like doing opk’s as I then know exactly when I’m due AF

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 13:10

Thank you @allgoodthings84 I remember you from a previous thread! How was your holiday? I totally understand about not doing it everyday, I definitely needed a break but as I wasn't doing any opk testing, it was so hard to know whether it was ok to stop or not, but once EWCM stopped I knew I could have that break finally! 😂

Does sound like you're starting your fertile days, it's exciting times for you and I'm really hoping for you. I'm like you that I have a set LP but this time I could only vaguely know when AF was supposed to be due as I really needed that break from opk testing.

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 13:18

@Tubbytele I had an amazing holiday thank you 😊 we just really needed. We both had covid the week before (luckily negative couple days before holiday) so not sure if that’s going to affect things with partners sperm. I ovulated late last cycle because of it but more concerned about his sperm ha ha.

I couldn’t opk last cycle so don’t know exactly when I ovulated but knew it was late because of covid (and was proved right when AF was a week late) and I hated not knowing when as hated not knowing when I was due AF as I never early test. I do sometime gets ovulations pains but not always very noticeable so can’t rely on that. I think if it wasn’t for me wanting to know exactly when AF is due I wouldn’t bother with the opk so much. I HATE AF so I love being prepared 😂

NSx · 08/08/2022 13:30

@Tubbytele so SMEP tells you to DTD cd8 and alternate days until positive OPK & then 3 days one day off and then 1 day after - you just DTD 10 days in a row ?

NatGee · 08/08/2022 13:46

@Tubbytele Congratulations and wow what stamina! definitely gives me hope that this effort will pay off :D

@NSx I wonder if there is something in getting as much sperm in our system as possible? The SMEP method definitely starts earlier than we have done the last couple of cycles. I am hopeful ladies!!

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 14:20

@allgoodthings84 ahh covid! I hope you guys didn't have it too bad but glad to hear you were able to go on your holiday and had a great time.

@NSx yea we decided not to do alternate days. I naturally ovulate late compared to the average as I have longer cycles. It's only recently become more regular as I'm breastfeeding DS. When I had my DS I had ovulated around CD21 according to the CB opk. This time we dtd from CD 17 to CD 26, and had EWCM on CD 23, 24 and 25.

Thank you so much @NatGee 😊

NSx · 08/08/2022 14:25

@NatGee i don’t know but it’s heavy going - I’m scared u run out of sperm 😂😂 or it’s not as good because u keep DTD

@Tubbytele i ovulate cd14 so right in the middle - don’t know wether I should DTD from tomorrow onwards - I don’t monitor my cm

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 14:30

When I got pregnant with my daughter it would have only been the one time we dtd anywhere near my ovulation as we only did it max once a week. I think it’s completely random if you do it on the right day for that specific cycle and lots of other factors too

NatGee · 08/08/2022 14:34

@NSx haha I know what you mean, my DH might keel over although he likes the idea! need to feed him well these next few days in preparation.

I think I might go for that approach. More is simply more in this context. Apparently sperm only loses its properties after two weeks of consistent ejaculation. Nothing to lose!

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 14:40

I agree with you @allgoodthings84, with my DS we dtd 3 times around ovulation and got pregnant but with other months when we had dtd more it hadn't worked.

@NSx we chose to do it this way this month purely because I wasn't doing opk and because the last 3 months hadn't worked trying around ovulation time like it had with my DS. I too was worried about sperm running out but DH said should be fine so just went with flow 😂

Ttc is not easy!

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 14:42

@NatGee that's what we said that there's nothing to lose trying it this way and it worked 😊

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 14:50

At least doing it every day for so long guarantees you get in on the right day. I don’t think my part et would go for it 😂

Aurora81 · 08/08/2022 14:58

@Tubbytele wow!! 😊 Congratulations ✨ that's for letting us know it worked ✨wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy 😊

Tubbytele · 08/08/2022 15:12

Thank you so much @Aurora81 🤗
I'm really hopeful for all of you and looking forward to hearing about your bfps!

Aurora81 · 08/08/2022 15:18

*thanks for letting us know

😂 My phone... At it again.

@Tubbytele many thanks ✨ 😊

NSx · 08/08/2022 15:20

When I fell pregnant with my Angel baby in feb we DTD 3 times 😂 2 x flashing smiley days and 1 x static smiley day and it worked ….
I think there is no definite way to fall. I think it just happens as it happens 😅 we SMEP in July and didn’t fall 😅

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 17:01

@NSx i think that’s exactly it. If it’s going to happen on a particular cycle it will happen as long as the right sperm and right egg is there. In my head I think the more we do it the more chance but who knows but I’m willing to give this SMEP a try

allgoodthings84 · 08/08/2022 17:10

@Tubbytele the covid wasn’t too bad. Only felt poorly for 48 hours and wasn’t reallllyy poorly more like a bad headache and body aches. No coughs or sneezes or runny noses or temperature etc. I wasn’t allowed back at work until 2 negative tests 24 hours apart though so I felt like I was skiving most of the time 😂.

NSx · 08/08/2022 17:43

@allgoodthings84 it’s all upto Mother Nature 😊✨🙏

dobby13 · 08/08/2022 17:55

Hi all. Jus throwing my hat in here - think I'm on a similar cycle day as a number of you, and we're trying SMEP this month ☺️
