SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

Mum2DD89 · 05/08/2022 15:17

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

@EdinburghGirl1 the thing that threw you off, and us too, was the 11dpo bfn. just goes to show everyone is so different, and every pregnancy is so different.
Someone got a bfp at 6dpo on one of the threads the other day. I couldn't believe it. Well, you have yours and I'm very encouraged by it. Let us know how you get on :)
@Aurora81 you must be quite tired after a party on a school night, hopefully youll get to rest today. I am 9dpo today and plan to test on Sunday. Apart from the tiredness how are you getting on?

NSx · 31/08/2022 17:06

@EdinburghGirl1 omg congrats girl 💕🎉 look at that lovely line! So happy for you.

@Aurora81 I’m ok, even though I wasn’t hopeful still sucks for Af to come and having bad cramps is killing me. 😅
how are u doing ?

EdinburghGirl1 · 31/08/2022 18:23

Thanks @NatGee @NSx yeah it was just a cheapie test. Maybe it would e shown on a FRER but didn't want to waste one as didn't think I was pregnant and was only going to use if there was a hint of a line.

Told me DP and he's over the moon. I was going to wait until DD was in bed tonight but he could tell something was up with me and kept saying I looked guilty so I just told him. He said he thought I was just hiding eating some chocolate or something not that news 😂

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 18:55

Hello all, sorry for crashing your established thread, but I searched for SMEP and this thread popped up. Am I OK to join you, or should I start a September SMEP thread? I've never tried it before, so some SMEP buddies would be great! CD2 for me today, so will be starting next week. Just saw above you've had a BFP @EdinburghGirl1 congratulations!

Mum2DD89 · 31/08/2022 19:14

@EdinburghGirl1 omg congratulations!! What a beautiful line ❤️🥳 how many weeks does that make you? How exciting!

@fsr111 funny enough my husband gave me a hug earlier and said I felt warm to the touch but I don't feel any different really! Will you test again tomorrow?

Aw come on ladies, I have a good feeling there will be some more BFPs over the weekend 🤞

@LucyFraser1981 absolutely the more the merrier, and I'll still be here next month! You and I are a similar place in our cycle

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 19:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ahhh thank you, and always nice to have a cycle buddy! How long are yours? I've been bang on 29 days the past 4 cycles, so my predicted next ovulation is wither the day before or on my birthday! 🥳😅

fsr111 · 31/08/2022 19:49

@LucyFraser1981 - welcome to the chat! This is a lovely supportive thread! @Mum2DD89, not going to test again tomorrow as felt a bit disheartened this afternoon. Will see if AF arrives and if not will test again Saturday AM, if I can hold out that long! 😅 Have a good feeling for you, so you have a plan on testing or going to keep waiting and seeing? 🤞

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 19:57

Thanks @fsr111 😊

NatGee · 31/08/2022 20:26

@fsr111 pregnancy can feel a lot like af. Dont let that bring you down. Also if youre due then youre in prime territory for an accurate test. Crossing my fingers for you
@LucyFraser1981 welcome! Is this cycle 5 for you ?

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 20:43

@Aurora81 I started OPK again yesterday. I’m CD9 now. We dtd last night and will tomorrow night and Friday night as can’t Saturday (CD12) this is my favourite part of the cycle 😂

@EdinburghGirl1 really does go to show how every pregnancy is different and it’s a good for all of us to take note that we aren’t out until AF arrives no matter how we are feeling. Im so happy for you

@LucyFraser1981 welcome to SMEP. Im on CD9 today so only a week ahead of you. I think there’s a few here around your CD. We are carrying on the chat I think as there’s a few of us who have unfortunately had our AF since the beginning of this chat and into a new cycle

@NSx what day is your appointment?

good luck to those of you who haven’t come to the end of their cycle yet, I hope we get more bfp’s.

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 20:44

@NatGee thank you 😊 this is the start of our 4th actively trying everything possible cycle, before that I paid attention for a few months to when I'd be ovulating, and before that we just weren't paying attention. We probably decided to see what would happen around November last year, then when nothing had happened by April/May we started talking seriously about our options etc, due to our age. I used BBT and opks when I conceived my son in 2013, so have been doing that for the last three cycles. Also got some preseed to use last cycle as I don't seem to get EWCM like I used to. Added ubiquinol, magnesium, vit D, vit C, and EPO for this cycle too, as well as the folate 🤦🏻‍♀️

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 20:46

Thanks @allgoodthings84 😊 I'm glad to have found some buddies to talk all things TTC with. Will keep my fingers crossed for those still in the TWW 🤞

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 20:51

@LucyFraser1981 it definitely helps having others to chat to. How old are you? I’m sorry if that’s too nosey.

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 20:56

@allgoodthings84 I'll be 41 in just under two weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️ so a geriatric! I fell pregnant with my son the first cycle I used BBT/opks after stopping the pill the month before, so just assumed it would happen easily this time, even though I'm nine years older 😬 but my grandmother had my Dad when she was 45 (in 1951! He was a proper surprise!), so I'm hoping I've inherited her robust eggs 😅

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 21:05

@LucyFraser1981 I’ll be 38 soon so counted as geriatric too which my partner finds hilarious (he’s 32). I had my daughter 7 years ago and wasn’t even ttc. I naively thought it would be easier emotionally. I knew at my age it probably wouldn’t be quick but didn’t expect the emotional rollercoaster. We both had covid early July and I don’t think that’s helped either.

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 21:08

@LucyFraser1981 my Nan gave birth to 11 kids! She had some miscarriages too. She spent A LOT of years pregnant! She was 34 when she had her youngest though

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/08/2022 21:09

@LucyFraser1981 not geriatric at all. I have a seven month old and my antenatal group is all mid thirties to mid forties. I'm late thirties.

I haven't tried epo but I did try grapefruit juice last time and got masses of ewcm. I quite like the taste though!

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 21:12

@allgoodthings84 how long have you actively been TTC? I think I'm much more stressed about it this time around as I've looked into all the statistics etc, and as soon as we hit 40 our chances decrease so drastically, think it's only a 5% chance each cycle, compared to 25/30% for those under 35! Covid will definitely not have helped! I found the vaccine messed up my cycle and I got my AF two weeks early, when usually I'm almost regular as clockwork.

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 21:15

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 geriatric as far as the NHS is concerned 😅 I definitely think more and more women in their late thirties and early forties are having babies these days.
Ugh, I've heard about grapefruit juice, but I HATE grapefruit, so can't imagine I'd like the juice much 🤣

LucyFraser1981 · 31/08/2022 21:21

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 21:08

@LucyFraser1981 my Nan gave birth to 11 kids! She had some miscarriages too. She spent A LOT of years pregnant! She was 34 when she had her youngest though

Oh good lord! 11?! I don't think I would survive that 😱

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 21:27

@LucyFraser1981 I’m only on cycle 4 but already feel like it’s not going to happen. Covid for both of us was before ovulation on cycle 2. It put my ovulation back by a week so AF was also a week late but I think it affects sperm more so not even sure if his sperm is back to full strength or not yet as it’s not been 2 months even yet. We both got through 2.5 years with no bloody covid then both got it when starting ttc! Typical. My normal cycles are 24-27 days so on the shorter side but have been the same for the last nearly 4 years at least (since I started tracking cycle length on my Fitbit)

allgoodthings84 · 31/08/2022 21:28

@LucyFraser1981 i know! Her and my grandad only married as she got pregnant at 18. They divorced as soon as the youngest moved out. Obviously they never used contraception

EdinburghGirl1 · 31/08/2022 21:29

Thank you everyone. @allgoodthings84 yes so very true never out until AF shoes and I'm now proof of that.

Wow 11 kids! That must've been a busy household!

@LucyFraser1981 I was getting all worked up when looking at statistics too as I'm nearly 38. This was my 3rd cycle which was quicker than my first and that was 6 years ago. That was 4th cycle. Good luck to you and hope SMEP works for you.

Got my fingers crossed for all of you still to test and will keep checking on you all

NatGee · 31/08/2022 21:33

@allgoodthings84 whhooa 🤯 i thought my mum was brave. She had 6.

@LucyFraser1981 you will find that most of us if not all on this thread are on the wrong side of 35 😅
