Hello

I’ve started tracking BBT this cycle and Im not sure if my temps are showing that I’ve ovulated yet or not.

Im on CD15 today and I potentially had my peak OPK yesterday CD14 around 19:30.

I’ve been taking my temps at the same time every morning and my pre-ovulation temps have been ranging between 36.26 and 36.29.

This morning I had a slight rise to 36.31 so if I take my lowest temp that’s only a rise of 0.05.

I read that after ovulation you should see atleast a rise of 0.3 - 0.5.

I also didn’t have any ovulation cramps and last cycle I had really strong cramps.

So my question really is have I not ovulated yet?

That very small rise that I've had today I assume that I can’t count that as post ovulation or can I?

Thanks Smile

I should also add that my opks have slightly dropped today compared to yesterday so I think yesterday was my peak which is why I’m abit worried that I peaked but didn’t ovulate.

Currently trying to do a 4 hour hold so I can do another OPK and see if it’s still high or not.

Keep doing opks if you haven't yet had a postive. Your bbt chart will confirm you did indeed ovulate after a clear temp shift with 3 temps higher than your previous 6. Good luck 🤞🏻

Newbiemg · 14/02/2022 12:32

@Mrsbmama Thank you Smile

I had 3 positive opks yesterday. My highest one was 1.24 at around 19:30. Test line was clearly darker than control line.

This morning they dropped down and I had one negative and then one positive where I would say the two lines are now just equal but not as strong as yesterday. That’s why I think yesterday was my peak and I thought I must have ovulated because I got a negative opk after a positive.

Perhaps I will ovulate later today and then my temps will rise properly from tomorrow?

I’ll keep testing both opks and bbt then and hopefully I see a better rise 🤞

Your welcome 😊 if you already have had a postive and you don't usually have issues with ovulating then I'd forget the opks now and wait for your temp rise, if your un sure BD until you do see that shift

Tinkerbell098 · 14/02/2022 14:08

@Newbiemg just wanted to say I am also new to BBT charting, and have been charting from this cycle. I got my positive OPK on CD 16, but didn't see a temp shift until CD20. FF plotted my O day as CD 19. So I'm not 100% sure when exactly I ovulated, but BBT has confirmed that I definitely did. So, my advice is to keep measuring BBT and DTD until you see a definite shift. I have read that the shift can occur up to 3 days after O, and also O can occur up to 36 hours after positive OPK. Good luck x

mylion · 14/02/2022 14:55

@Newbiemg it can take anything from 12-48 hours after peak OPK to ov & then a further 24-48 hours to see a temp rise, once you see your rise you'll figure out how long it takes for you to ov following +OPK, it's different for everyone & the first cycle of BBT there's a lot to figure out with your body, so don't panic 😊

Newbiemg · 15/02/2022 10:03

@Tinkerbell098 @mylion Thank you both too!

My temp still didn’t rise this morning Sad

But last night at around 11pm I was still getting strong lines on my opks. They were negative but strong. This morning at around 09:30am my opks dropped right down and now my lines are very faint.

I also had some ovulation pains last night and a small amount of ewcm around 11pm (I don’t usually get much cm so a small amount for me is a lot).

Based on that would you say it’s possible that I ovulated lastnight?

That would mean- Peak OPK on Sunday evening (around 19:30), Ovulation Monday night (around 23:00).

No temp rise today (Tuesday) but perhaps a temp rise will come tomorrow (Wednesday).

Does this sound possible?

  • just putting the days for any future readers to make it it easier.
  • attached my OPK from last night 11pm and from this morning 9:30am.

Appreciate your help Smile

@Newbiemg yes, it is possible you didn't ovulate until late yesterday/this morning even. Some get a dip in BBT just before ovulation, but I haven't seen this in my charts. I would temp the next few days and hopefully you'll see a definite shift. As I mentioned, I didn't get this shift until about 4 days after I had my peak OPK.

Juno231 · 15/02/2022 15:47

It's normal for ovulation to occur up to two days after peak so today could be ovulation day.

Your opks being strong today doesn't mean anything, potential ovulation is measured from the first peak - even if the peak lasts 2-3 days.

If your temp doesn't rise tomorrow it's possible it was a false alarm and you'll ovulate after your next LH peak (you can have more than one in a cycle, it's always the last one that counts)

@Juno231 @Tinkerbell098 Thank you both Smile

Attached my charts as it may shed some more light. I will keep taking my temps over the next few days and hope for the best then🤞

@Newbiemg the chart from yesterday certainly hasn't had a temp rise yet - what was your temp today?

Newbiemg · 16/02/2022 08:33

@Juno231 I had a big temp drop today Sad so I’m confused. Positive opk was Sunday night. I’m still doing opks incase I get another surge and still going to temp but I was hoping for a rise today and I got the opposite.

Charts attached from today. No idea why I’ve had that big dip and no rise Confused

@Newbiemg ah I'm sorry! Some ladies get a big drop on ovulation day so let's hope this is it. And if not then don't despair, I'm sure another peak would be just behind the corner.

Newbiemg · 17/02/2022 07:02

A little update I got my temp rise this morning. Hopefully a good sign Smile🤞

Just another quick update as I know people search these threads who are going through similar and then sometimes there’s never the full answer there.

My temps stayed high today (yesterday 36.68 and today 36.66).

Still need to see what happens over the next few days but it’s looking like I ovulated on CD17.

My positive and peak opks were on CD14 and negative by CD15 but I seemed to have ovulated a whole 3 days after positive OPK and 2 days after they turned negative.

Chart attached Smile

@Newbiemg that's a very clear temp shift. amazing. Yes, I didn't get the temp shift until 4 days after positive OPK. So it does happen.

Newbiemg · 19/02/2022 06:57

Last little update for now. FF confirmed I ovulated today and I got my crosshairs added to the chart yay. Attaching my chart. I will update whether I end up getting a bfp or bfn incase this thread is helpful to anyone.

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it Smile

@Newbiemg great stuff! Hope you have a positive outcome at the end of this TWW!

Another quick question my temps were very stable before ovulation and they seem to be stable again now after. I’m wondering if they should be rising more rather than staying flat or is this still ok? I did have that little dip on 5dpo and I had really bad cramps 6dpo but doesn’t seem a big enough dip to be implantation or anything. I take my temp at the same time every morning. Thanks Smile

Stable temps = stable hormones 😇 your chart looks great. Let me just mention that each individual temp means absolutely nothing, it's just the overall pattern you want to show ovulation. A dip after O big or small won't show you implantation etc, so try not to look into that too much, sending lots of luck your way. Chart looks good 🙌🤞🏻
Juno231 · 24/02/2022 07:51

Implementation dips aren't really a thing - they're caused by a secondary oestrogen surge and are present in lots and lots of BFN charts too.

I second everything @Mrsbmama said, your chart looks great!

@Juno231 @Mrsbmama Thank you both 😊… learning as I go along. Appreciate your help ✨
