Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

Planning to start April/May too so hello another one. Hoping fot a baby born months Jan-April 2023..

I would come off the pill to regulate your cycles (I have some off pill already). You can track cycle/use condoms in mean time..
Also from new year I plan to focus on more healthy eating and take vitamin d/folic acid tablets month before ttc

bighev · 28/12/2021 23:56

Want to start preparing over the next few months to try for baby two (have a three year old) I could wait a bit longer tbh (circumstances aren't perfect) but am getting conscious of my age as I'm now in my late 30s. I'm a healthy weight, I track cycles, I've started taking a vit with folic acid in, my weight is healthy but I want to get fitter and eat a better diet before trying again.

bighev · 29/12/2021 00:00

Have also indulged over Christmas so looking at first few months of 2022 as the time for getting my body into better condition. Plan would probably be to start trying from around May.

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 09:14

Hi to you both! Nice to talk to others planning to try around the same time. @Jennifer89 will it be your first or do you have older children?

@bighev I definitely need to try and get fitter/healthier. 2 years on from my last baby I'm still sitting 3/4lbs heavier than pre-pregnancy so would like to loose that ideally rather than pile new baby weight on top of old 🙈 problem is sticking to healthy eating as I stress eat and work is stressful atm!

I think I will finish my pill with this packet and just use condoms for now. I will have to be careful though as want to avoid getting pregnant this month as my eldest starts school in September and don't want to introduce a new sibling alongside big change of starting school! Also already have a September birthday and an October birthday so want to space the next one a bit 😂 My ideal would be Feb/March 2023 due date. We have been lucky enough to fall pregnant first month trying with 3 pregnancies so far and 1 unplanned pregnancy on the coil (sadly ended in miscarriages for 1 of the planned and the unplanned pregnancy), so hoping we will conceive quickly again. I'm a bit anxious about miscarriage though after 2/4 of my pregnancies have ended in miscarriage.

Will be my first child so first time ttc. I am 32 going on 33 June next year. I feel ready but would prefer baby born early 2023 as have had a lot going on with moving home this year and recently getting married so be nice to just have few more months break and not jump straight into ttc.
Funny Feb/March would be ideal for me too. I feel January is too close to Christmas but still tempted to ttc in April and see what happens.
Interesting some of you ladies say to take pre natal vitamins even 3 months before which I guess makes sense so will do that too..
Anyone else have that limbo feeling of already thinking about ttc/being pregnant/future nurseries but also wondering if too early to stress as we are months away from ttc?

Summerbreeze111 · 29/12/2021 15:34

Yay a thread that I can join!
We are hoping to ttc from May 22, still a while away yet but so excited! We've just moved house so enough to keep us busy until then. I am 31 and it will be our first. Hi everyone ☺ 👋

Jennifer89 · 29/12/2021 15:51

Hi @Summerbreeze111!

Nice to have a group for us planning to start ttc similar time Smile

Summerbreeze111 · 29/12/2021 16:08

@jennifer89 our situation seems to be pretty similar 🙂

I am a big worrier and already getting paranoid that we will struggle to conceive, I've got no obvious reason to think that would be the case, but sometimes you just never know! Does anyone else feel that way?

I have come off the pill too and going to start taking prenatal vitamins, including folic acid. I am not sure if this is too early but I've always been a planner and it just feels right?

It would be nice to keep this thread alive, I am sure the time will fly by!

gabby321 · 29/12/2021 16:15

Ooh I'd like to join! We're planning on trying for our first from March, on the basis that it'll like take us a few months but March would be the earliest we'd like to conceive.

I was on the progesterone only pill until the end of my last pill pack in October and it took me around 7 weeks to get my first period. I have a long cycle (35 days) so I'll only have 4 full cycles before starting ttc so I'm glad I came off it when I did, it gives me time to figure out when I ovulate. Hope that helps OP!

I also need to shift a few extra lbs and get myself moving a bit more. I've never been a 'start on 1st of Jan' type but this year I have a reason to get my arse in gear 😁

Jennifer89 · 29/12/2021 16:16

@Summerbreeze111 yes I know the feeling. I hope to get pregnant within a few months but you just never know. A part of me wonders why wait but I want the time to feel right too so should trust my gut on that.

Haha I am a bit of a planner too. Already been looking into nurseries in the area etc. I think definitely no harm in taking those vitamins a few months early..
Yes we should keep this thread going as we can all relate Smile

Jennifer89 · 29/12/2021 16:18

@gabby321 yes definitely plans to ttc puts more focus on 'start in Jan' health plans. The Christmas time was my last time to indulge.

littlecontis · 29/12/2021 17:30

Hello! I'd love to join this thread. I am the same as you @Jennifer89 , will be 33 next year and will be first time TTC from Jan (so a few week's time!) I am a big worrier and a bit nervous that it'd be difficult for us to conceive / potential MCs (a lot of my friends have experienced MCs).

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 18:04

I'm so glad I'm not alone! I would love to keep this thread going - there's a few of us aiming for May time to start. Looks like I'm the only one nutty enough to be going for my third atm though! I'm a couple of years younger than most of you by the sounds of it and will be turning 30 at the end of Jan.

Like a few of you I'm such a planner. I have known for ages that I want a third and that I'm aiming for my youngest to be 3.5yo but it's hard waiting even though I know there's a good few reasons behind the plan DH and I agreed on!

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 18:10

@littlecontis I was really worried about struggling to conceive before my first daughter and I was lucky enough for it to happen first month trying so it does happen. Unfortunately I have experienced 2 miscarriages since, I never realised just how common they were until my second pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 7 weeks. I then fell quickly with my second daughter and then I had another miscarriage with an unplanned fourth pregnancy in July. I'm really hoping to have a smooth TTC journey this time with no miscarriages!

Nyxxie · 29/12/2021 18:39

Hi everyone. I'm also planning to start TTC next year :) Will be coming off the pill as of the first of Jan.

I'm excited to start trying but also - like some of you - nervous that it won't happen for me or that something will go wrong if it does. A bit premature as we haven't even started trying yet!

Anyway I am going to start taking my vitamins and try to think positive! Best of luck to you all Smile

ShaneTheThird · 29/12/2021 18:44

Already started and unsuccessful so far hoping 2022 is better! Anyone else going to try cut out sugar as I've read that affects the ovaries?

GingerSunday · 29/12/2021 18:48

Hi everyone! Also planning to start TTC no.2 in April/May and it feels like a long way away at the moment but I have some work to do first to get my fitness levels back before I put my body through another pregnancy Grin Planning to start the vitamins, diet tweaks and exercising in the new year. It took 3 months to conceive my DS but really hoping we can fall on straight away with this one as the timing would then be perfect for a wedding where I am a bridesmaid! Probably wont work out through!

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 18:55

@GingerSunday I also need timing to work out 😂 My brother's wedding is end of May 2023 so ideally need baby here beforehand as SiL is apparently asking me to be a bridesmaid (so my Mum says anyway - thought I'd get away with just my kids being bridesmaids but apparently not)

OP posts:
Jennifer89 · 29/12/2021 19:29

@ShaneTheThird I planned to try and cut down on sugar anyway for better teeth health so that is also a good incentive

HMFx · 29/12/2021 20:20

Hi all

So lovely to read all your messages and hearing my own thoughts in all of you. Can I join?

We're recently married and ready to start trying for our first baby. This will be our first attempt which is exciting and also scary. I've also had thoughts about me not being able to conceive and it taking us years which I have no reason to think this but hearing some of you also feel this way has really comforted me. I think it's probably just a natural thought when starting to try for the first time.

Anyway my period is due tomorrow and then this will be the first cycle to try. Super excited and looking forward to seeing how you all get on! x

HippeePrincess · 29/12/2021 20:32

I’m also looking to ttc no 3 in April ish. DP’s first and I have a fairly big age gap now but I’ve had to wait to be eligible for proper mat pay. My probation is due to end in March and we’re hopefully moving too, once we get a bit further on with the house things in the new year we’ll know whether we can start in March or April or need to hold off any longer although I’m getting on a bit compared to when I had my other kids so a bit reluctant to hold off too much longer in case it takes a while.

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 21:03

@HMFx of course you can! Good luck with your first month TTC!

@HippeePrincess welcome - lovely to hear from another person who is going to be TTC #3, how old are your older children? Did it take you long to conceive them? Xx

OP posts:
HippeePrincess · 29/12/2021 21:47

They’ll be at least 8 and 11 by the time any possible baby arrives, I know it’s not a huge gap by some standards but it feels very much like starting over, having a baby as the eldest is off to secondary seems a bit crazy!
They were conceived fairly quickly and easily really, I waited over 3 months to get my first period when I came off the pill which I’d been on for 10 years. I fell pregnant with dc1 the following cycle.
I had an oops and got pregnant and miscarried, followed by getting pregnant again in the next cycle with dc2.
However, I realise how lucky I was, I am now mid 30’s and with a different partner so I am just aware there’s every chance things may not be the same. I’m also not really into all the charting I’d rather things just happened naturally so we also won’t be “maximising” our chances either.
Have you experienced coming off the pill and how long your cycles might take to return?
I’m hesitant to come off my hormonal contraceptives before March despite knowing it could be a few months for my cycle to return. We just can’t afford for me to get pregnant before then!

WingingIt09 · 29/12/2021 22:14

@HippeePrincess no this will be my first time coming of the pill to TTC. I was on the combined pill before my first but had to come off due to migraines about 8 months before TTC so didn't really pay attention to my cycle. I never went back on anything between my 2 DDs and then originally went for the coil after DD2, however had a whoops with that and fell pregnant with it in situ, which I sadly miscarried in July. Have now been on the pill since then and finish my last packet Sunday 2nd. Hopefully cycle returns quickly, we will just be using condoms until we start TTC, they've worked well in the past and if there are any 'accidents' then it's not too much of an issue for us.

HippeePrincess · 29/12/2021 22:31

I just don’t like or trust condoms or us to be honest Blush although probably don’t have enough sex to worry about it to often!
