oo Natalie, that sounds like you have a hard weekend planned! I think it sounds like a sensible plan but its not going to be much fun doing it, but it the long run I am sure it will be worth it!

Cosmogirl · 18/01/2008 12:35

Thanks guys! I am still a bit in shock I think - all happened so fast, but very exciting nonetheless. Thinking should probably stick on the pill for a few more months now and settle into the job. Will need to check out maternity policy etc but from what I have read it is 3 months full pay, 3 months half, 3 months SMP, and three upaid - so pretty darn good! Not sure how long you have to be there for that though, so will wait to get my employee handbook.
Yey - exciting! Weekend wise - nothing much planned, which is nice. Probably should go out and celebrate I suppose, but because we are being 'good', maybe not....DH has his second weigh in on Monday. x

Diege · 18/01/2008 12:58

Hi! Would it be OK for me to join this thread? I'm in a similar sitation to CARMENELECTRA [waves!]regarding biological clock (37 too) and waiting till April ish to start ttc no.4 purely for selfish reasons relating to my job . I have 3 dds, age 6, 5 and 2, and no. 4 would be our last (err, that's what I said about no.3 ). I started my dream job last September, and while plans had been to ttc no. 4 last July, got the new job unexpectedly. Summer time would be a good time for me to get pregnant (I work in higher education) as teaching lightens up, and I can take it a little easier if I have all-day sickness like times 1 & 3. The best made plans and all that eh! Hello to everyone, and hoppe I'm in the right thread and don't offend anyone with having 3 already!

BeMyLilBaby · 18/01/2008 13:20

Welcome diege!!Your more than welcome here!It would be great to hear your experiences with DD's, How nice for you to have DD's and a dream job too, im sure it'l all come together wel, although your braver than me going for number four! ( flash forward 6-10 years when after having one child i become addicted to having kids i have eight he he , poor you with your sickness tho!

Cosmo thats fab a really gd policy! sounds like a fab position, you should def celebrate!

Playing i am with you, in regards to natalie, it'l be hard but worth it! stick with it natalie!! least DH will be there for support!

Im off out to dinner with DP and friends (god daughters parents) which will be nice, even bought a new out fit naughty eh!! xx

NatalieJane · 18/01/2008 13:33

Hi Diege I am fairly new to the thread as well, but everyone seems lovely and welcoming, I already have 2 DS's so you're not the only with children already

Cosmo, that sounds like a really good deal maternity wise. Deffo get the champers popping

BB, everyone derserves a new outfit every now and then (or if you're like me everytime I go into town! ) I hope the dinner goes well

Not looking forward to the CC thing TBH, but as I say, I don't see any other way of doing it. Lot's of coffee tonight I think!

Diege · 18/01/2008 13:43

Thanks for the lovely welcome girls . BEMY, lol, at possible child addiction . Hand on heart 4 is my max, think because dd1 & 2 are soo close, only 16 months apart, that we feel that little dd3 is sort of left out of things. Not that you can plan how they get on, but we do like the idea of another one to even things up (and 4 seems just 'neater' somehow ) NATALIEJANE, just shout if you need any advice with CC . I am very much an advocate (hard, because dh is not , but then he sleeps through the 3am tantrums!). Have done it successfully with first 2 (it DOES work though can take 10 days or so), and to a lesser extent with dd3. She's in process of moving into her big girl bed, though is sleeping in dd2's lower bunk now for her nap which is NOT going to help things tonight .

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 14:15

Hi Deige, Welcome. Everyone is welcome here regardless of circumstances. The only think that unites us is that we would all love to have a baby but something is making us wait (money/housing/job/mc etc). It makes no difference if you have no children or 8 (BB - 8!!!!! surely not ). I think waiting whatever you circumstances is hard. It is so much easier to go "sod it, lets go for it and we will deal with the consequences later" but we know that would be irresponsible and selfish. Having a baby is not just about what we want, we have to think of the babies best interest as well. And while we wait we have each other for company and support!!

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 14:16

Cosmo- 3 months full pay and 3 months half pay. WOW!!!! That is fantastic, all I will get is legal min, whic is typical of my company. Def reason for celebration

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 14:34

Although I do have a friend who gets 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay. She still can't afford to have kids yet cos she owns a completely inappropiate (but lovely) top floor flat in a converted Victorian Manor House on a hill with hundreds of steps (you simply could not carry baby stuff up and down them)and the flat is not that big. It cost the earth to buy (she lives in Surrey) so her mortgage is more than the rent we pay on a 3 bed house!!!!! She can't afford to move to a bigger place and she can't afford to go onto even half pay, and she earns twice as much as me.

TLO · 18/01/2008 15:49

Thank you Diege, I might just take you up on your offer, I am starting to get quite nervous about it all now!

Playing, the housing market is just getting completely ridculous at the moment, we have been paying our mortgage on this place for 5 years, and we are ready to jack it in and go back to rented, it isn't about the monthly payments, and infact if we went back to rented the rent will be £300 at least more a month than our mortgage re-payments, but we just don't want to be caught up in everything that is going on now. It is another reason for us to move down south They are stacking up now, just got to sell our place and find DH a job down there

TLO · 18/01/2008 15:51

So sorry it is NatalieJane, just mucking around with name changes, bet you any money I am back to NJ within the hour!

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 16:20

Hi Natalie/TLO,

I have given up worrying about house prices. As said previously, no way I can buy and have kids before I am 30. Have to decide where my priorities lie and having a family is more important to me than buying. Could do the family thing later and buy first but besides the agony of waiting for another 5 years or so, I would kick myself if I waited and discovered I had problems (which I might do as I have irregular AF). It isn't worth the risk for the sake of owning a house.

I am living in the South (Hampshire) and having only been working full time for 2 years (due to 3 years off sick straight from Uni)we have completely missed the boat when it comes to house buying, but were simply not in a position to buy, now there is nothing suitable for under 200k and we would probably need to spend more than that.

I remember when my parents bought a large 5 bed house in our town 8-9 years ago (ok it needed quite a bit of work but it was all cosmetic) for 215k, now that would buy a small 2 bed in need of modernising. Although we could get the mortgage we dont have the deposit and the monthly repayments would be so large that I wouldn't be able to go down to working part time so I can have kids for years. Still, I'm not the only one, the only people I know (around my age)who own have had help with deposits apart from SIL who took out a 100% mortgage which is risky in these conditions and post Northern Rock crash dont think we would get one. Still, thats just the way it is and I am not going to waste my time and energy worrying about it!

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 17:01

Just popped on to wish everyone a good weekend, will be thinking of you Natalie and your cc.

Just read my last post and it sounded a bit like I was moaning, which I wasn't. I actually consider myself lucky to have found such a lovely kind hearted DH so young and to live in a lovely house (albeit rented) in a lovely little town. In some respects I think I am very very lucky, no I know I am. My lovely lovely DH may be a pain in the arse at times but he has always been there for me when I needed him (how many 21 year olds would push their fiance around in a wheelchair) and will make a wonderful father, so I do have to put things into perspective. I have my health, I am able to work again and the kid thing will happen I just need patience. A bit of perspective can work wonders and put our "suffering" into context!! And on that 'thought for the day' I am going to just finish what I am doing and go home.

BeMyLilBaby · 18/01/2008 17:20

playing you say your in hants, wherebouts? im in portsmouth, you near??

TLO/Nat im of the same persuasion as you and playing, not wanting the hassel of buying and owning, im quite happy renting, for now at least hehe!Good luck with CC, stay strong, think of the greater good

Ive had the best work day that ive had in ages so am set up well for the weekend, hope you all have a fab one xxx

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 17:23

Hi BB, yes I am near you, thats why I suggested changing test centres!! Just 15 miles up the road, Petersfield

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 17:24

I read where you were from on your profile page (hope I dont sound like a stalker!!)

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 17:28

Right I am def going home now, might log on later not sure. Have so far avoided logging on at home otherwise Mumsnet may turn into an obsession! But might just quickly check again when I get home in about 10 mins, I have an extremely long commute of just over a mile!

Playingthewaitinggame · 18/01/2008 18:15

Well did pop on to check if anyone else had posted but I guess people have a longer commute than me! I am off to the pub now (occupation habit of have a sister with a DP who is a pub landlord). Not sure if I will post again this weekend. Bye

Diege · 18/01/2008 19:01

Enjoy the pub PLAYING! I envy you the commute - mine is 2 hours each way - having said that, I actually quite enjoy it (on train) as it's the only real chance I get to read a mag and relax .
Just wondering if anyone else has started to take folic acid yet? I think there's someone else who is hoping to start ttc April ish, but forgive me forgetting everyone else's timescale! Maybe we should do one of those super-organsied chart plans like on the other threads? Or is that just tempting fate

Cosmogirl · 18/01/2008 19:44

Hi ya,

Welcome to the new joiners! The more the merrier.
Diege - I like the idea about the chart - I might have to keep changing the month I plan to start tho' Bit indecisive. Just landed a new job too so thrown the plans a bit up in the air!

Playing - 10 minute commute - fab! When I start new job mine will be about the same. At the moment it is taking me about an hour and a bit to drive 19 miles - blinking roadworks! It is not fun but just makes me even happier that I get to leave this job in a few weeks time. Drink a few for me down t'pub

Cosmogirl · 18/01/2008 19:46

Waiting to ttc list:

Cosmogirl, 25, DC1, financial/work-related, December 08

Anyone want to join the list??

NatalieJane · 18/01/2008 19:49

Cor, what it would be like to go to the pub......

Diege, list is a great idea, will follow Cosmo's lead

Cosmogirl, 25, DC1, financial/work-related, December 08
NatalieJane, 24, DC3, Miscarriage and a few little others things, May 08

NatalieJane · 18/01/2008 19:51

Just thought would the list be better with the TTC in order? So the one at the top is the first one to start TTC? Am I talking crap? I think I am LOL

Cosmogirl · 18/01/2008 19:54

Hi NJ!

No, that sounds pretty sensible! Go for it. It's quite fun having a list - can't really be on the conception boards without one. I will be moving myself up and down the list depending on how much I like the new job I think!!

NatalieJane · 18/01/2008 19:59

Oh good, glad I managed to get my point across with out making a fool of myself !!

NatalieJane, 24, DC3, Miscarriage and a few little others things, May 08
Cosmogirl, 25, DC1, financial/work-related, December 08

It is exciting having a list, kind of makes everything formal

Right, it is bed time, gonna be a long hard night by all accounts! Have a good weekend everyone, g'night xxxx
