Cycle Day 1 - SMEP method?

Hi Mummies-to-be! Is anyone at a similar stage in their cycle and going to try the SMEP method this time? Would love to share the highs and lows of the journey together!

This is our second cycle, TTC baby #1, but first cycle I’m pretty sure we DTD around the wrong time / missed my ovulation day. Thought SMEP could give us a better chance!

Hi, can I jump on?
I’m cycle day 4 for cycle #2, TTC our second child. We will also will be trying the SMEP method. It worked first time for my first pregnancy and naively I was hopeful we would catch it first time last month too but was gutted when AF showed up!

MummyStevensToBe · 28/10/2021 23:21

Hi @Moonshine160 yes definitely join! Ahh still early days, don’t worry. I have to say, I was pretty naive too - I had no idea how much planning had to go into this - 16 years of trying NOT to get pregnant and turns out it’s pretty difficult to in the first place!

Keep me posted with how you’re getting on - I’m really going to track properly this time!

Hi ladies :) can I join too? We’re attempting smep this cycle, on cd12, so just started. Ttc our second too - just feeling really impatient for it to happen!
We’ve been actively trying for 4 months, but have been not not-trying since my cycles returned last September.
Fingers crossed for us all that this is our lucky month!🤞🏻xx

Cd10 not 12! Sorry!!

Hi @mrsS21yes please do join! That’s so exciting - so have you just started ovulation testing? I told DH about the plan and he’s already baffled 😂

Keeping everything crossed for BFPs in November for us all!

I did my first yesterday, as I’ve no idea what length my cycle will be this time. Ordered some CB advanced opk tests at about 3am this morning 😆 they seem to have good reviews, and give 4 days of highest LH so you can know more about your cycle.

I’m using one step cheapies, and just feel like I’m not confident what peak looks like. Only my 3rd month trying them, but decided to try those. Really exciting to start another cycle and hopefully smep does the trick!!

Firsttimetrier · 29/10/2021 15:57

Hello! It’s CD2 for me with O predicted on CD13!

We tried SMEP last cycle but started way too early (on CD5 as we got so excited 😆) and got burnt out!

We’re going to start on CD8 I'm not going to use OPKs to take some pressure off ourselves but keep an eye for EWCM instead.

UmmSA · 30/10/2021 01:02

Hi can I join too 😊

Trying smep this month too! I'm on cycle #2 and CD8. Going by last month I should ovulate on CD12.

Last cycle my hubby went away on a weekend trip right when I was ovulating so we missed out 😪

I'll be using preseed this cycle too just for good measure lol 😌

Lots of baby dust to you all 🧚‍♀️

ExPatHereForAChat · 30/10/2021 01:06

Ooh joining please! This is cycle 4 TTC #2 and I'm CD 6. Probably going to do SMEP this month and have ordered some PreSeed.
DC1 is still nursing which I think is making me ovulate late (day 18 instead of day 14), so I've been trying to cut down on the feeding but it hasn't been easy.

Carrottopppp · 30/10/2021 21:06

Hi guys just wanted to jump on and say I've tried SMEP and first month trying was a success for me and DP, 11dpo today and got my BFP this morning. Highly recommend the SMEP method. Good luck ladies 🤞 x

MummyStevensToBe · 31/10/2021 07:30

Hi ladies! Sorry for being quiet - I had a little night away with some of my girlfriends (hopefully a ‘last girly trip before I’m pregnant’!).

@mrsS21 I’ve got the the clear blue ones 4-day window ones too! I’m only on CD5 though so haven’t started yet!

@Firsttimetrier @UmmSA @ExPatHereForAChat welcome to you all and thanks for joining in :) so lovely to be able to share this journey, especially when the TTC part is all so secretive but also complicated! Sounds like we’re all at similar points in our cycles! I did the same as @Firsttimetrier though - went too soon and DTD last night when I got home 😂 but that’s just a bit of fun - and trying really hard not to overthink and stil enjoy, especially relatively early in my TTC journey.

@Carrottopppp thank you so much for sharing your positive story and huge congratulations! So excited for you!! And fills me with so much hope for us doing the same :) how are you feeling?! X

Nothing wring with a little practice! No risk of me DTD too early in the cycle this month. DS is sleeping terribly right now as I'm trying to night wean so I'm knackered. Nothing quite kills the mood like sleep deprivation Wink

I'm hoping I'm going to ovulate earlier than CD18 this cycle. Have my cheap LH test strips ready to go this month as I didn't want to spend £20 on the Clear blue refills. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the ass...

newnameanon19 · 31/10/2021 15:12

Same as you, OP, tried on cycle 1 in September, think missed ovulation by 2/3 days, did SMEP for cycle two and got a BFP today!

mrsS21 · 01/11/2021 07:42

That’s amazing news @newnameanon19 huge congratulations!!
Well @MummyStevensToBe I’ve had 2 fails with the testing - can’t seem to get it to work at all 😑 I mean, it’s not difficult! But neither of my tests have given results, so going to call customer service today, as 3am testing this morning didn’t give me results, and that’s not cricket!

Hope everyone is doing ok. I’m hoping that smep really works for us, would be so perfect to get our bfp this month

Firsttimetrier · 01/11/2021 08:33

@mrsS21 are you trying to use the CB OPKs? If so, are you getting the empty circle?

mrsS21 · 01/11/2021 09:08

@Firsttimetrier having re-read the instructions…Turns out it was a user error!🙈 I thought you dipped the test strip before popping it in the holder…oops.
So, I’ll test later today, then tomorrow it should start giving me some kind of result. More frustrated with myself as it’s around £2 per test! And you have to buy the full kit again, you can’t just buy strips

Firsttimetrier · 01/11/2021 16:15

@mrsS21 ah no! Blame it on the early mornings! I wasted a couple of sticks as I didn’t realise they use your first day as a control to test against!

I hate that you have to buy the whole thing again, seems very unethical with the amount of plastic they use.

Moonshine160 · 01/11/2021 17:41

Hi all. It’s cycle day 8 for me, I don’t usually ovulate until around cycle day 16. I got pregnant first cycle when TTC our DS using the SMEP method! Along with pre-seed. Didn’t work first cycle this time though, I’m now on cycle 2 and have bought the clear blue advanced ovulation tests. When should I start testing do you think?

Firsttimetrier · 01/11/2021 17:48

How long are your cycles @Moonshine160? CB have a handy diagram on their site which tells you what day based on your cycle length. I have an average 29 day cycle so will start on CD9!

Moonshine160 · 01/11/2021 18:11

Thanks I’ll have a look! Mine are 30 days on average @Firsttimetrier

siaa · 01/11/2021 18:27

Hi everyone can I join, in my experience SMEP works every time so I'm hoping it'll work this time for us too, this is our first month properly TTC this time round and I'm 3dpo today x

cocoforbes · 01/11/2021 19:47

Hi I'd like to join. I'm in my second cycle, CD3. We did SMEP last cycle and found it quite hard going especially since we ended up with 4 days in a row based on my LH surge. Going to try and stick to it again but if it ends up just being every other day then so be it, don't want us to get burnt out again!

Good luck everyone! 🤞🤞🤞

MummyStevensToBe · 01/11/2021 19:55

@newnameanon19 congratulations!! That’s so exciting! Best of luck for your pregnancy - how are you feeling? X

@mrsS21 oh gosh these things are so complicated, I’m definitely going to make some sort of mistake - don’t worry, at least you’ve got it figured out now!

Welcome @siaa and @cocoforbes :) lovely to have you in the journey! Here’s hoping for more positive SMEP results!

I’m now on CD6 - I read the CB ovulation kit leaflet last night and it said the day to start testing should be worked out based on your shortest cycle in the last 6 - my cycles are a little bit all over the place as I only came off the pill in august, but think shortest was 26 days, so going to start ovulation testing tomorrow and then DTD every other day from Thursday (I hope we can keep it up and I don’t have a late ovulation 🤞😂)

Good luck ladies, let’s hope this is our month 🙏

UmmSA · 01/11/2021 22:58

CD 10 here now and I'm feeling like I may ovulate a little later than last month (boooo).
So far hubby and I have been dtd everyday (tmi) rather than every other day (he keeps begging me lol) and I'm worried as I was of the inclination that we should dtd every other day to allow the spermies to rebuild up again 🤔

mrsS21 · 02/11/2021 08:27

Ooh good luck @MummyStevensToBe I was going from my shortest which was 31 days…but got the low fertility day result yesterday.

Yeah it’s not great at all that you have to buy the whole thing again - why they can’t just sell the sticks, it’s terrible. Think we’ll see how this cycle goes, but don’t think I’ll purchase again knowing that x
