In the shimmering summer heat, we need to head for the water to cool down and relax. Bring your inflatable flamingo, your romcom read and your sunscreen, cause it's time for a pool party!

Welcome to the 12th post pill party thread. We are here for women who have recently come off the pill... and women like me who not-so-recently came off the pill! Share and get support with the highs and lows of TTC.

I can see these people rockin' up with their cossies on:

I'll start with some confusion - this is a super long period for me. CD7 and still what I would call medium-heavy?

OP posts:
Moocher90 · 16/07/2021 15:35

CD18 for me….no ovulation yet :/

MissM94 · 16/07/2021 15:44

Love the new thread, just in time for 26 degrees this weekend where I am 😅

Nothing new with me, AF came finally after 92 days (average has been 34 days) scan and blood test all clear so put it down to the second dose of the vaccine (?) no proof for anything that caused it but it's the only thing different in my body haha so just happily DTD and trying not to think too much into it, what will be will be and all that jazz ☺️

Carolinesturn · 16/07/2021 16:13

Hi everyone!
Quick question... everyone knows someone who got pregnant while taking the pill... my sister was one! Anyone ever think now... how the hell??

Carolinesturn · 16/07/2021 16:20

@TheDaydreamBelievers I used to have 7 day long periods when I was 18 so maybe think of it as a good thing, did it start off with spotting?
It's so annoying as you read 'light periods are bad' and 'heavy periods are also bad' what are we supposed to think?

ChinChilly · 16/07/2021 16:22

@TheDaydreamBelievers thanks for the new thread. I bloody hate super long periods, hopefully it sods off in the next day or so.

@MissM94 glad AF turned up for you eventually, seems wierd to say that, hopefully your next cycle is more normal.

@Carolinesturn Yup, i don't get it those people must be super fertile.

I feel very old today as I've found the best thing about this weather is the amount of washing I've got done 😂😂

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/07/2021 16:41

Hopefully @ChinChilly - though there is the novelty that after a 7 day AF, I actually quite fancy DTD. Because of my super long cycles I don't usually get around to missing it!

(side note that ofc some people do have sex when AF is in town, just isn't for us)

OP posts:
MissM94 · 16/07/2021 16:42

@ChinChilly I'm the same 😂😂 I get excited at the thought of getting the washing out as soon as I see the sun.. not for my own tanning purposes hahaha I hate summer, much prefer colder months! And thank you! How are you feeling?

@Carolinesturn i know someone who had sex for the first time with a condom, then went on the pill and had sex the second time and got pregnant! Carried on taking the pill for the month whilst unknowingly pregnant.. had a great pregnancy and now has a baby girl! I find it so strange how things can happen! My auntie had an ectopic pregnancy and unfortunately lost a tube, took her a while to get pregnant with her first child but when trying for her second had sex once and got pregnant.. talk about being super fertile even with one tube! 😂 my best friend got pregnant at 19 with her first very unexpectedly & was trying for years for her second, got really obsessed with it and eventually decided it wasn't going to happen so stopped thinking about it and started going to the gym and stuff & she started getting real bad heartburn and went to the doctors about it.. they tested her and she was pregnant but she had been having a period every month and had no other symptoms, sent her for a scan she was 15 weeks pregnant! 😂 crazy how the body works!
Gives me hope for us all knowing all these crazy stories haha

Carolinesturn · 16/07/2021 17:17

@MissM94 omg that story about the woman that was pregnant with periods gives me false hope!

MissM94 · 16/07/2021 17:22

@Carolinesturn I know 😩 she's always had light periods and she said she just kept having them and heartburn was literally the only thing!

ChinChilly · 16/07/2021 17:54

@TheDaydreamBelievers we have not DTD for about 6 weeks 😮 I was so sick when I was pregnant up to and including the day we found out there was no heartbeat then since the MVA I've not really been in the mood, sods law OH goes away for the weekend and now I fancy DTD 😂😂 DTD while AF is around isn't for us either.

@MissM94 glad I'm not alone on the washing front. I think I prefer the cooler months, the idea of the warm weather is better than the reality. I'm convinced the heat here is different to abroad, it's just so sticky and uncomfortable here.

Sunshinedaisybuttermellow · 16/07/2021 19:37

@TheDaydreamBelievers oh that is a long time! How long are they normally for you? I'm having the opposite issue, my periods are barely lasting 48 hours Confused.

@Carolinesturn I worked with someone who got pregnant with triplets on the pill. Another girl at work only missed one pill and is now due next week. Its absolutely crazy when you consider just how hard it can be to get pregnant!

I'm another one who prefers it cooler, I love a thick woolly jumper. Can't be dealing with sticky heat.

Kay00 · 16/07/2021 20:23

@thedaydreambelievers yey! Thanks for the invite to the pool party 🥳🍹

I'm also a lover of the cooler weather... I got home from camping today and my garden (which is a bit of a sun trap... we grow olives, grapes and figs) was 32 degrees in the shade... and 44 degrees in the sun 😱 its 25 degrees now at 20:18!

I had a 9 day period a few cycles ago... it was very long and heavy. Could you have PCOS do you think? It's what I have been diagnosed with. My consultant said its very common.

@carolinesturn I don't know anyone who got pregnant on the pill, bug my sister had sex ONCE with a guy and got pregnant 🙃 my niece is now 10 years old and amazing 🥰 fortunately my sisters relationship with the guy (who was an utter twat) ended shortly after my nieces birth.

The down side to this story is that my sister thinks all the women in our family are 'super fertile' and she regularly likes to remind me of this 'fact'... if only she knew!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/07/2021 20:26

@ChinChilly we were the exact same after our loss. Not exactly a sexy time.

@Kay00 Im basically 100% sure I have PCOS but my GP wont do anything. I have a big stressful deadline for work in early August and will go private then. I suspect I will end up on clomid/metaformin, or maybe even IVF in the end.

@Sunshinedaisybuttermellow mostly I have long cycles then about 3 days period. 7+ is very odd for me

MissC07 · 16/07/2021 21:11

@TheDaydreamBelievers Thank you for the new thread! God what I'd give to be by a pool now!! Sorry to hear about the heavy/long period. You haven't recently had your vaccine have you? I heard that can play havoc too!

@MissM94 Glad AF came and your bloods and scan came back normal. Day 74 for me now and still nothing. Had bloods on Weds so hopefully get the results next week. Still waiting on my scan letter. Oh and I'll probably get a text about booking my second vaccine next week so that'll knock things even further out!!

@ChinChilly I'm glad I'm not the only one with the washing!! So happy I could hang it on the line. Even ordered myself some more pegs from Amazon - I think I'm about 80 years old 🤣

Tillybabs · 16/07/2021 21:21

Thanks for the invite!

Talking about periods. Has anyone else found since coming off the pill that their periods are heavy?

Initially they weren't too bad but now for the first 2 days mine is so heavy. I wear a tampon and pad

After the first 2 days he goes light.

Some months I'm ok but this month my cramps are horrible. Not sure if maybe the baseline scan I had today has brought on cramps.

ChinChilly · 16/07/2021 22:54

@TheDaydreamBelievers definitely not a sexy time. That's frustrating about ur GP, why are alot of GP totally useless with women's cycle/fertility issues.

@MissC07 when we had a last mini heatwave i said to my OH all panicy 'I have to go wilko's for pegs' he looked at me like I'd lost it.

@Tillybabs my periods are normally heavy for the first 2 days and the first day the cramps are pretty intense. I'd say they were light for the first 5-6 months off the pill then got heavier

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/07/2021 23:16

@MissC07 - nah, Im a healthcare clinician so had them both ages ago now.

@ChinChilly my main frustration is how much it varies by postcode. I could kind of accept "sorry, the nhs can only see you after a year, even if theres something clearly wrong" if it was the case everywhere. But theres people on other threads getting referred straight to fertility teams or prescribed clomid by GPs cause their bloods showed they arent ovulating. No shade to the woman herself, but so frustrating the inequity.

OP posts:
Tillybabs · 16/07/2021 23:40

@ChinChilly I'm exactly the same so good to know it's not just me

It's funny that I've seen hanging washing out mentioned. We've had the garden done this year and was just today thinking I need to buy a line to put my washing out on days like today 😂

CharWils · 17/07/2021 08:01

Love the new name!
Now humour me ladies, currently on cycle day 12 and have EWCM pretty sure this happened last cycle and then didn't get my peak reading until day 20. This is what my OPK currently looks like. What would you say is more accurate opks or EWCM as last cycle and looks like this cycle too they both tell me very different things?

Post Pill Party - Pool Party
Tillybabs · 17/07/2021 08:23

@CharWils I find opks quite accurate for me. I don't go by ewcm and actually, I've not been getting much of late which is tad worrying. But I've had a gynae issue that is slowly rectifying itself.

But I would go by the opks.

I also started temping and that confirms ovulation for me at the time of my opk peak

ChinChilly · 17/07/2021 09:07

@TheDaydreamBelievers yeah I hate that too it seems so unfair as does the variation of how many IVF cycles you can have. I think its becoming a GP lottery, you either get a good GP or one that's not really interested, unfortunately they all seem to be the later at my surgery.

@Tillybabs one of the GPs i spoke to said cycles can take around 6 months to settle back into what they were like before the pill and I vaguely remember my first 2 days being horrible many years ago.

@CharWils I also find OPKs more accurate i find I get EWCM a few days before a positive OPK, I'd just DTD to be on the safe side

ChinChilly · 17/07/2021 09:23

Ladies on FF premium how do I add my RHR onto the chart?

WhirlingD · 17/07/2021 10:10

@TheDaydreamBelievers thanks for the summery thread

@Carolinesturn my sister got pregnant on the pill at 33. And my ovaries are failing at 38. Mad!!

My latest blood results are extremely confusing. In one month FSH has gone from 77 to 6 and oestradiol has gone from 160 to 1800. I'm a medical marvel!! Will give the specialist something to analyse. Perhaps my ovaries are having one last hurrah. Here's hoping. Still no period though!

Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend everyone x

Carolinesturn · 17/07/2021 12:13

@WhirlingD
Wow how odd that your fsh is so changeable, how long have you actually been off the pill for? Do you not think your hormones are still settling? Like it said in earlier posts the doctors say it can take months! Did you get blood tests after 6 months of trying? Were you aware of any potential hormone problems before you stopped the pill? Sometimes people just know. I've always known I've had hormone issues due to my acne and I've always worried about my fertility but I've had no GP tests and nothing confirmed
