Thanks @birdbybird for the list

Catconfusion · 18/07/2021 00:08

Hey ladies, I just read this really interesting article about fertility and older women. It was recommended on another thread.

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/309374/

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 18/07/2021 07:05

Thanks @Catconfusion for the article. It was very interesting and encouraging to read x

Catconfusion · 18/07/2021 08:31

@Littlemiss40andfabulous I thought so. Definitely puts some of the research into context. One lady on the same thread said her consultant didn’t think miscarriages earlier than the age of 45 were on the whole due to age. Obviously some are but most were for the same reasons anyone has a loss and are pretty unexplained Xx

99pctpractice · 18/07/2021 16:04

Thanks, @Catconfusion that is an interesting article. It does feel like there are a lot of inbuilt biases to how a lot of the statistics have been recorded. Fingers crossed for that one good egg!!

Catconfusion · 18/07/2021 17:37

@99pctpractice I definitely agree. It’s like researchers are trying to get evidence for shock headlines. So many younger women have miscarriages and infertility yet at our age it’s immediately assumed it’s an age related problem. Obviously in some cases it is but there’s still so much not understood about why some pregnancies don’t progress. Xx

Catconfusion · 19/07/2021 20:54

I got the inclination to test today as I had horrendous cramping a few days ago and I've started to feel sick. It's only 8dpo so really early but it's a bfp. Even DH could clearly see the line. It's faint but it's there. Really not sure what to think after two early losses in the last two cycles and another earlier in the year. I verified with a FRER so I'm not going mad. Any suggestions for getting through the next week are appreciated. xx

October1979 · 19/07/2021 22:17

Congratulations @Catconfusion . Aspirin at bedtime and progesterone are all I'm doing. Fingers crossed this is all our times. Just try to stay busy. It's a good sign you have a clear line at 8dpo. Stay positive 😘

@Catconfusion YASSSSSSS!!! Congratulations!!!!!

Right, main thing is to carry on as normal. You need work/tv to distract you for at least a few days. Have you got a busy week planned? If not - make plans and stay distracted. Remember nothing you do/don’t do (within reason…don’t take up gymnastic trampolining or try out acid) will affect the outcome. So eat well, sleep lots and focus on being busy. Xxx

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 19/07/2021 22:30

Oooh wonderful news @Catconfusion!! Congratulations xxx

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 19/07/2021 22:31

PS I updated my name to reflect my current age!

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 04:59

@October1979 thank you. Maybe the progesterone and aspirin are beneficial. I did another IC this morning and it’s slightly darker so that’s good. I was reading that only 0.5% of pregnancies show up at 8dpo. I can’t think of any reason it would be a bad thing. I know late implantation can be bad news. Must have just implanted early. I really hope this is it. Not long until your scan on Friday. You’re doing so well! Xx

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 05:03

Thanks you @Geriatric1234 all stuff I needed to hear, even though I know. The losses make pregnancy feel so fragile but when they’re strong and healthy they stick. I actually do have quite a busy week so that’s good. Xx

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 05:04

@Littlemiss41andfabulous thank you so much. This thread seems to be a lucky one. Xx

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 05:29

It’s so annoying but my bad tooth is really playing up so it’s likely I’ll need an extraction. There’s so many mixed opinions on whether this is ok in early pregnancy. Has anyone else had dental work done during the tww or in pregnancy? It was playing up when I was pregnant with ds but the dentist wouldn’t touch it, then Covid happened. Now it’s an infection risk so will need to be done. I guess the plus is I’ll get my treatment free. Xx

birdbybird · 20/07/2021 10:42

Congratulations @Catconfusion.

I have the opposite problem. Multiple negative tests and I'm waiting for AF to show. 14 DPO. FertilityFriend thinks I was due AF yesterday.
I hate this :(

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 12:01

Thank you. I’m sorry to hear that @birdbybird it’s really horrible. I hope AF is here soon. Xx

Honey2 · 20/07/2021 12:32

@Catconfusion fantastic news! So pleased for you. I am sure you are nervous as hell but a visible line at 8dpo surely must be a very good sign. Agree with @Geriatric1234 distraction is the key now!

@birdbybird I’m so sorry it’s not looking like your month. You are right - TTC is bloody hard, unfair and down right pants most of the time. But I have decided to believe it’s a matter of time and patience. So many of this group are getting pregnant so it is possible, we just need our golden egg!

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 16:45

Thanks @Honey2 I'm hoping it's a good sign. I was a bit worried it was a sign of ectopic but google disagrees. We joked about it being twins last night, well I joked and DH mainly looked shocked. Apparently, only 0.5 percent of pregnancies show up that early. The frer is much darker today which is insane considering I'm only 9 dpo. Also feeling really sick and hungry. Fingers crossed it continues. xx

Mattieandmummy · 20/07/2021 18:41

Congratulations @catconfusion, I really hope this is your month 🤞

Catconfusion · 20/07/2021 19:54

Thanks @Mattieandmummy I have a good feeling about this one for some reason. Fingers crossed you get some good news soon! Xx

Mattieandmummy · 20/07/2021 20:45

Thanks, today I feel like everything is just stacked against me. Age, adenomyosis diagnosis, fear of another traumatic birth, no ewcm this month / having potentially f'd up this cycle by taking too much stupid epo at the beginning.

Whilst I would love to hold another baby in my arms am beginning to feel it's just not going to happen and I need to move on from that. I know I sound like such a moaner and need to get over myself as I have such a beautiful little girl that we so very nearly lost but today is hard.

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 20/07/2021 21:30

Sending big hugs @Mattieandmummy. You're not a moaner at all. It's important to express your sadness and frustration as well as your hope for the future and this group is a lovely place to do that xx

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 20/07/2021 21:31

Think of me tomorrow - the day of my first ever antenatal scan has arrived at 12 weeks and 4 days!!!

birdbybird · 20/07/2021 21:38

@Littlemiss41andfabulous all the best for tomorrow and lovely to see you reach this special milestone.

@Mattieandmummy I hear you and feel much the same :(
