TTC after MC - new thread for newbies / lurkers on other threads!

Lowkeyloopy · 06/04/2021 12:49

Hi all!

I know there are several threads dedicated to this topic, which I've lurked on for several weeks without saying anything, but some threads (sadly) have so many people on them that it can be a bit hard to follow, or it feels awkward to jump into the middle of a conversation between people who have been chatting for a while. Does anyone fancy joining me on a new thread?

My story: 33, TTC baby #1, conceived first cycle in Feb, but had a MC at 6 weeks in early March. Absolutely awful, as everyone knows, and I was in a rubbish place mentally for a few weeks, but I've also counted my blessings - it was early, I needed no medical intervention and at least I know I can conceive. Also AF has returned today - 29 days after first day of my MC. I usually have a 28-29 day cycle so am so grateful that my body seems to be getting with the programme again.

So CD1 for me, and I'll be TTC this month and back to tracking - BBT from tomorrow, OPKs from CD 11, still taking my Pregnacare and trying to keep exercising and eating healthily!

Would anyone like to join me if they're going through something similar? How have you been coping since your MC? What's on your TTC to-do list?! (Other than the obvious..!)

Baby dust to all xx

@ItsMeantToBe hopefully the scan gave you some reassurance and everything is progressing as it should be!

Welcome @LSW82 and sorry to hear you have had a rubbish time this year too. Fingers crossed 2021 can finish on a high for us all!

justwant2beamum · 10/06/2021 21:25

Welcome @LSW82 🤞🏻 for you x

CMcA21 · 10/06/2021 22:39

@Lowkeyloopy I’m 10DPO today I think... CD26. I’ve got to say I don’t really have any symptoms except for sore boobs. I literally can’t remember how I felt just before I found out I was pregnant last time so I don’t know how I’m meant to feel. I also had loads of symptoms last month and wasn’t preg soooo I don’t really trust my body 😂

@LSW82 welcome and sorry for your loss ❤️

@ItsMeantToBe keep us updated tomorrow lovely, fingers crossed for you xx

Flopsy88 · 10/06/2021 23:13

Thanks girls ❤ My bro has got stage 2 Melanoma so needs a sentinel lymph node biopsy to make sure it hasn't spread 🤞🏻 It's terrifying but we're trying to stay positive and not think about it for the next few weeks. SO PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! It's so important!!!

@ItsMeantToBe It sounds like she was very reassuring but it's natural that you'll worry. Will they get you back in for another scan? 🤞🏻 for your hcg rising tomorrow. I did tell my DP and he was really happy! It was much better than last time when he didn't believe me cos the test line wasn't as dark as the control line 🙄 He understands now

@Lowkeyloopy I love your DPs reaction to you dropping your toast! 😂 So cute! He is going to make a great parent

@justwant2beamum Thank you! This was my 2nd cycle post mc. We did sperm meets egg, grapefruit juice before ovulation and legs in the air after dtd this month so I'm wondering if it was one of those things that helped. Or none of them and it was just a coincidence

@CMcA21 How are you doing? You're 10dpo right? Are you planning to test early or wait and see?

@TBF29 How was your acupuncture consultation? I'd started looking into it recently, it's really interesting. Have you listened to The Worst Girl Gang episode about it?

@LSW82 So sorry for your losses, that must have been heartbreaking. I hope you're doing ok xx

Flopsy88 · 10/06/2021 23:14

Sorry @CMcA21 It took me so long to write that post you'd already answered my questions!! Xx

TBF29 · 11/06/2021 08:12

@Flopsy88 fingers crossed for your brother, how soon will he find out the results? My mum had a mole that turned cancerous which I nagged her to get checked for 5 years+ before she actually did and she was very lucky that it hadn't spread. She still goes for yearly check ups.

The acupuncture consultation was interesting although it was nothing to do with acupuncture! It was more recommendations on diet and supplements which I found quite useful as I'm vegetarian so worried I was missing out on things. I think partly it was just nice to be able to talk to someone as all I've had out of the NHS is half an hour phone call in 2 years! I haven't listened to the podcast but I will do, do they recommend it? My first session is next Wednesday so I'll keep you updated!

SparrowMaiden · 11/06/2021 08:20

@Flopsy88 gosh yes, very worry for you and your family but great that you're all trying to stay positive. Yeah my dh thought the control line was the test line last time - he found the instructions a few hours after I did the test and rushed downstairs and said "I didn't see a line!" (it was an absolute squinter) and then I got all upset with him because I needed validation that I had actually seen it... 🙄 if I ever get to the point of testing again I'm going straight for the digital ones! He can't get confused about those!

Welcome all the new people, sorry I wasn't on here for a couple of days and lots of new people seem to have appeared, sorry for all of your losses, I hope you find this group helpful 😚

Thought this might amuse some of you: my birthday is coming up and my mum knows how down I've been about all this ttc stuff so last night she texted me asking if she could pay for dh and I to have have night away next weekend as my present, and she would babysit!! I mean of course I have snapped the opportunity up but I do feel a bit weird about my mum knowingly paying for a night of attempted baby making!!!

TBF29 · 11/06/2021 09:43

@SparrowMaiden bless her!!! That is funny.

Me and my husband are away this weekend for our anniversary and I was hoping it would fall during my most fertile time but I seem to have ovulated early after the MMC! Typical!

We got a puppy last year and it's our first weekend leaving him so I feel a bit sad! God help me if I do ever have a child!!

ItsMeantToBe · 11/06/2021 15:19

@LSW82 welcome, sorry to hear about your losses. Sounds like your going about it in a healthy way. It'll be good to allow yourself a month to relax and you never know!

@Flopsy88 Fingers crossed for your brother. The NHS is normally brilliant with that sort of thing and will hopefully get his surgery and appointments booked really quickly.

@SparrowMaiden bless your DH! My DH has previously read a test wrong and told me it was negative. That's so nice of your mum. Hope you've booked somewhere lovely.

@TBF29 Having a puppy is harder in a way as you can't take them everywhere with you!

I got todays HCG readings back- it's doubled to 504 🙂. They want me to repeat them on Sunday just to be sure and then they'll book me in for a scan when they think they'll be able to see something. I think I can relax a bit more now. Id convinced myself that it was a pregnancy of unknown location.

Hope everyone's having a lovely Friday!

TBF29 · 11/06/2021 15:26

@ItsMeantToBe fab news!!! Enjoy your weekend, hopefully lots of sunshine for everyone!

Lowkeyloopy · 11/06/2021 15:53

@ItsMeantToBe Brilliant news! So pleased for you - I hope you can have a relaxing weekend now 🙂

Short message from me today ladies (for once!). I’m knackered!! Slept so badly last night - woke up three times. Had a nap in the middle of the day, but that’s just made me more tired! 5+1 today. Anyway, longer letter later but I’m thinking of you all. Keep us posted and have lovely sunny weekends when you get there! Baby dust to all!

@ItsMeantToBe that is fantastic news!!

Happy Friday everyone!

Laurenxx94 · 11/06/2021 17:26

Hi ladies hope you don't mind jumping in!
I'm 5 days post chemical and really struggling , we're going to ttc right away so ovulation should be next week! I have a beautiful 5 year old and 2 miscarriages previous to her too!
My new partner and I have been trying for 9 months now including chemical and I suppose it counts for something that we CAN get pregnant .

If you ladies don't mind sharing some tips you maybe did differently ?
I'm currently taking vitamins D and folic acid but I got a day 21 progesterone tests and levels were 21 and after chemical they were 1.8 so wouldn't be able to sustain a pregnancy I'm worried this is maybe the case but I'm so unsure as nobody is giving me definite answers.

Congratulations to the ones with bfps recently I've tried to read some of the posts but struggled! Best of luck everyone xx

CMcA21 · 11/06/2021 17:46

Girls sorry to jump in without reading but just wanted to update you all... I got the job 🥳🥳🥳

ItsMeantToBe · 11/06/2021 18:38

Thanks everyone.

@Lowkeyloopy I've had trouble sleeping too. I'm waking up about 3 times a night for a wee and keep tossing and turning. Hope it passes for us both soon!

@Laurenxx94 welcome. Sorry to hear about your loss. I had a chemical back in April too. We started TTC straight away. I didn't get pregnant in the following month but I did the month after that. I'm 5+5 today. The main things I done differently are- put legs up after DTD, tracked my cycle using cheapie OPK's and monitored my BBT for the whole month. Best of luck for this month!

@CMcA21 that's amazing! Congratulations. Hope you get a BFP to make this month even better.

CMcA21 · 11/06/2021 21:27

Just read over all the messages properly, welcome to newbies and @ItsMeantToBe so happy hour hCG looks good!!

Hope you’re okay @Lowkeyloopy ❤️

@Flopsy88 I’m okay thanks, 11DPO today and AF due next week 🥳

Aila1994 · 12/06/2021 00:02

Hi ladies! I haven’t checked in for a while but I’ve been lurking! @Flopsy88 I’m so sorry to hear about your brother, sending positive thoughts your way and congratulations on the baba, light at the end of the tunnel!

I’m either ovulating today or I ovulated yesterday. Think this is our 4th or 5th month of trying since the miscarriage and although I know that’s completely normal, it’s starting to worry me that nothing has happened for us yet.

How is everyone else? Anyone around the same time in their cycle is me?

Flopsy88 · 12/06/2021 06:52

@ItsMeantToBe Oh that's such good news! So pleased for you. I hope you're able to relax a bit now

@CMcA21 AMAZING!!! 🥳 Congratulations! What a wonderful start to your weekend 🥂🙂

Flopsy88 · 12/06/2021 07:42

@Lowkeyloopy I hope you had better sleep and are feeling fresh today ☀️ I'm sleeping terribly too. I'm waking up in the night really hungry and getting up for milk and biscuits. I don't think the heat is helping!

@TBF29 That's pretty much exactly what's happened. We nagged him for years to get it checked and then it suddenly got bigger in the last few months. Glad to hear your mum is ok, that gives me some hope ❤ Yes, one of the ladies hosting TWGG swears by acupuncture and when she tells her story it does sound amazing

@SparrowMaiden That is so nice of your mum! But yes, also a bit odd that she'll be thinking 'ooh I hope they're having lots of sex' 😂

@Laurenxx94 Sorry to hear about your chemical. I think you're right to be reassured that you can get pregnant. Did you have your day 21 test through a clinic? From what I've read that's only supposed to confirm that you're ovulating and I would have thought you'd expect the level to be low after the chemical. Are your cycles regular with a 14 day luteal phase? I've done quite a lot of things differently since my mc in March and just got a BFP on my 2nd full cycle. If I listed them all it would make me sound obsessed (which I am) and obviously I have no idea if any of them helped! I'd also read It Starts with the Egg and so a lot of it was trying to improve my egg health to reduce the chance of another mc. Anyway, the things I did differently this month to help conception
-higher dose of Evening Primrose Oil (2000mg) during the follicular phase (but stopped at ovulation)
-Grapefruit juice every day in the follicular phase (good for EWCM)
-Pomegranate juice every day (supposed to help thicken the uterus lining)
-legs in the air after sex for 15 minutes (DP didn't even bat an eyelid, bless him)
-follwed the Sperm meets Egg plan

I have also been taking Aspirin 75mg since ovulation. I thought about it a lot and I don't even know if it's necessary but I've got a couple of close friends who are GPs and they said it can't do any harm

Laurenxx94 · 12/06/2021 08:23

Hi @Flopsy88 thank you for taking the time to reply.

I wasn't sure if my progesterone was supposed to drop as low during my chemical but that makes sense they said to me they didn't know if that caused the miscarriage or if the miscarriage caused the low progesterone I will never know.
I got my blood test through the GP they came back equivocal (didn't know if I had or hadn't ovulated)
But when I went to EPU they told me that my levels on day 21 (were 21) and that they looked fine but I've also read that 21 is extremely low 😭

They all sound promising I've tried grapefruit juice Il try the pomegranate juice does that taste nicer than the grapefruit lol? X

Congratulations @CMcA21 ! Fab news. Hope you’ve celebrated this weekend!

@Laurenxx94 Welcome and I’m so sorry for your losses. It must be comforting to know you are capable of getting pregnant because of your DD, and even your chemicals are a weirdly good sign - they can be a sign of future fertility. It’s probably just that your body is overly welcoming to embryos that should never make it and that perhaps lots of people’s bodies would just overlook. But your body gives it a go! I know thats a weird silver lining..! In terms of things I did - I put a list above somewhere! I think if you click on “see all” for my posts you should be able to find it.

Hey @Flopsy88 and @ItsMeantToBe - sounds like we’re having similar symptoms. I’m mainly just tired, though not like crazy mad tired yet. Though my job often requires long hours and some lack of sleep, so perhaps I’m just used to operating on little sleep..? Am getting very occasional light nausea too and starting to go off “interesting” (and nutritious) food in favour of bread and cheese. Also getting up to pee twice or three times a night is suuuper annoying, but it’s a symptom so I won’t complain!

I also get mild cramping pretty much every night and occasionally during the day too. Which was kinda terrifying but now I’m getting a bit more used to it and trying to see it as a positive sign that things are moving and stretching. I’m also obsessed with this chart. datayze.com/miscarriage-chart

Tomorrow is a big milestone as I miscarried at that stage (5+4) last time. Want to get to 6 weeks on Thurs then will take a weeks indicator to see if I get 3+ - too scared to take it until then!

Laurenxx94 · 13/06/2021 14:40

@Lowkeyloopy thanks for your reply , that's very reassuring for me and the things you said put things into a good perspective you've definitely made me look at things differently xx

ItsMeantToBe · 13/06/2021 15:15

@Lowkeyloopy Yes I'm tired too but still managing to get things done. When I was pregnant with my son I was useless from about 2pm, so I'm hoping it doesn't get that bad this time. I've had a few waves of sickness/dizziness. Also been having really vivid dreams all week! I woke up in such a mood with DH this morning because he dream cheated on me. Can't stop eating either. I'm sure your cramps are just your body working away!

That chart is so reassuring, thanks for sharing! Im 6 weeks today so an 84.7% chance of having a viable pregnancy :). I got my bloods done again today so hoping for a HCG >10000.

How's everyone else doing?

Flopsy88 · 13/06/2021 20:26

Hope you've all had fab weekends ladies! I'm not ready for it to be over! ☀️😭

I'm feeling really sick and I'm worried it's a bad sign that I feel so rough this early. I know it sounds ridiculous but I've convinced myself it's a molar pregnancy. I've had nausea for the last 3 days and it was so bad this morning it woke me up. I felt so sick I was dreaming about feeling sick! I'm only 4 weeks today and I did a test on 12dpo that was really dark. I know high HCG is a sign of a molar. Last time I only had a little bit of nausea from week 5/6 that never really got any worse, but then I miscarried at 9 weeks. So maybe this is a good sign?! I don't know. If I had no symptoms and light tests I'd probably be worrying about that too! Last time I knew there was a chance it could go wrong but I thought it probably wouldn't. This time I feel like it probably will go wrong but there's a chance it might be ok. Does that make sense? It's hard to feel optimistic after a loss 😔
