Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Hi @ploopypleepy I do ovulate, its just been later on in my cycle and a bit diffident (weak opks etc). Was a bit worried about messing it up, but got unequivocal opk positives on CD12, ovulation on CD14 this month.

ploopypleepy · 06/04/2021 15:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's really good. I'm going to try next cycle from 3-7.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 15:42

@ploopypleepy I've still got 3 days left of this cycle, I will update you if anything weird happens in that time still

acaciabluebell · 06/04/2021 15:44

Hi everyone, glad to have found this thread! I decided to try Soy Isoflavones this cycle from CD 5-9 at 120, 120, 200, 200, 200. Reason being, I don't think that I ovulate regularly as some months I get strong ovulation symptoms and some months I have none. I have low progesterone too which was shown in a day 21 blood test a few months back.

I have very minimal EWCM too so I have started taking Evening Primrose Oil 3000mg per day.

I've also started taking vitamin B6 this month to help extended my luteal phase which is only 10-11 days normally.

I already take COQ10, zinc, vitamin D and cod liver oil.

Let's hope something in this strange cocktail of supplements works!!

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 18:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that must have been SO difficult for you to go through, really insensitive and a little selfish ☹️ i don't think I'd be able to deal with any of my friends getting pregnant right now, it would be so difficult. I suppose we'll hopefully be better friends to others who do go through this as we have experienced this side of things.

I did another cheap test which showed nothing so am going to stop until the morning. It's so hard not knowing, I'm preparing for another chemical, I don't know how I'll get through it if it happens again.

Marvellouslymadmum · 06/04/2021 19:57

Hi @acaciabluebell I'm on soooo many suppliments now it's crazy! Plus all the extra bits and pieces too something has to work lol

@choccrumpet it's so hard isn't it? When you want something so much it's hard to accept it and move on 😔

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 20:27

@acaciabluebell wow that's a lot, keep us posted how you go!

@choccrumpet I've got four pregnant good friends right now, and its all good, super happy for them. But I think if you have had an easy ride of it, you don't always realise others might be feeling really bad, and maybe don't take it into account. We for sure will, cos we know how much it sucks!

Good luck for the test tomorrow. Its still so early, remember only 10% of pregnancy charts had a positive test at 10 dpo. I'm hopeful all is okay for you xx

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 20:44

In terms of all the supplements, make sure you're all taking things that work okay with each other and no bad side effects. We can do everything 100% right and still not get pregnant. I'm taking folic acid, vit d and b12 (low ish b12 pre trying).

@Marvellouslymadmum that's exactly it - I can't accept and move on. I'm quite a determined person and if I want something I work for it and I get it. This does not work the same way!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think I would struggle being happy for others right now tbh, I would try to but it would be hard. But saying that, if any of you got pregnant I would be really happy for you. It's a strange conundrum in my head! 🤔
I should take my own advice 🤪 I hope it works out for all of us!!

Marvellouslymadmum · 06/04/2021 21:00

@choccrumpet I am Exactly the same, just set my mind to it and get what I want! This definitely doesn't work the same way unfortunately 😑

I'm taking -
Pregnacare preconception vits
B6
B complex inc b12
C
D
E
Magnesium
Folic acid
Ubiquinol
Evening primrose oil up until ovulation
Plus drinking pomegranate juice up until ovulation
Eating fresh pineapple including core in the fw up to ov day
Extra protein

And probably a few other things I've forgotten 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 07:06

@choccrumpet if you have tested lower B12, might be worth you taking B6 also, they work together and also both have a role in preventing losses (boost progesterone and lower homocysteine). Sorry to butt in, feel free to ignore. I’m veggie so I’m careful about my B vit levels.

@Marvellouslymadmum I didn’t know you should supplement on top of the pregnant pills. I’m taking the proceive ones. Maybe I’ll top up more C and B vits also. I did drink the pomegranate juice before this time, and the pineapple juice after 😂 was actually delicious!

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 08:50

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh thanks for letting me know, I did not know that! I tested a year and a bit ago for b12 and I was low but not deficient, but I can tell I'm not very energetic and not sure if they're helping so need to get retested. I'll take a look at that, maybe it might help me feel a bit less meh the whole time! I'm also veggie so I can't imagine that helps.

This mornings frer. The one step was darker but still faint and hard to take a photo of

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 09:27

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes you can add extra, vitamin c you can't overdose on and a lot of the others you can take a lot higher apart from zinc I was told! The pomegranate juice tastes much better than I thought amd I'm enjoying my slices of fresh pineapple first thing in the morning too!

I'm a veggie too 😊

@choccrumpet I'm so rubbish at seeing the lines 🤦🏼‍♀️ I do think I can see one on the frer though!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 09:46

@choccrumpet I can see a very faint line on the frer!!! How're you feeling?

@choccrumpet and @Marvellouslymadmum so funny to get three veggies on this thread! All I keep reading is a plant based diet is supposed to increase pregnancy chances, and we're already doing that. Maybe I need to cut out the cheese 🤣🤣

@marvellouslymadmum how many children do you have already?

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 09:56

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I read that a bit of full fat dairy is good for you especially milk rather than semi-skimmed as that has male hormones in it or something! I have two teenagers a girl almost 15 and boy 16 and my partner has two boys 13 & 14 but we don't have any together

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 10:09

@Marvellouslymadmum Wow, five children 😁 that'll be a very full house! How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 36, trying for my 1st, based in London.

Actually can't stand milk, its coconut milk all the way for me, its just cheese I'm quite partial to.

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 10:11

Not enjoying this game of is the line getting darker..

I actually thought veggie wasn't great for conceiving. I've never drank milk, can't stand it so although I eat pretty well, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm lacking certain things, especially since turning veggie! And I'm 28 based in Berkshire 😊

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm feeling better than yesterday so far but nausea is there (or it's in my head, don't know) and mild period like cramps are coming and going for a few days now. Boobs are VERY sore, not had them this sore before, they feel bruised. But I also know symptoms don't necessarily mean that I'm pregnant and if I am that it's a viable pregnancy so I'm not counting on it.. want to see a clearer line before I speak to my GP, I can't help but feel it's just going to end any day so don't want to waste time going to docs for nothing.

@Marvellouslymadmum that's a lot of kids on your hands 🤗

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 10:23

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my partners two don't actually live with us full time, they're with their mum then come and stay with us every other weekend plus extra in school holidays. And as my two are older they pretty much do their own thing most of the time! I only have milk in tea or on granola/porridge as I'm not a fan either, I've been veggie for 26 years so conceived both the teens while I was. I just turned 42 partner just 40 but been ttc for 3 years and based in East Sussex these days, originally from London and lived in Kent most often my life.

@choccrumpet I believe being veggie is good for ttc but you have to make sure you're not lacking anything. Hoping this line does get darker for you and it's a sticky bean!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 10:29

@choccrumpet after reading around some studies I was aiming for the Mediterranean diet as the healthiest for fertility - lots of wholegrains, multiple portions veg, a little fruit, good fats like olive and avocado, and beans chickpeas etc. But realistically, who knows 🤷‍♀️ Most studies did say cut out red meat, processed meat, fatty meat, junk food, sugar, bad fats and white carbs. Sugar is tough!

Maybe your GP could help with something now? If you explain the history.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 10:41

@Marvellouslymadmum three years is tough, I'm sorry.

@choccrumpet maybe a conception multivitamin if you're worried? My neighbour is a nutritionist, she said zinc is one most are deficient in (veggie or not) plus bvits, and vit D for fertility. Zinc esp important for men.

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 10:50

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it is hard and I've had times when I feel it's never going to happen plus times when I'm feeling good about it! This is why I'm now doing and trying pretty much anything lol

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 10:53

@Marvellouslymadmum thanks! I think you hear all kinds of stories where veggie is good and veggie is bad, same with meat. I went veggie for my own reasons and don't really want to go back to eating meat unless I have to! Or want to which I don't.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I eat most of those things anyways, actually I did get basic bloods done in December and they were fine, although now thinking about it I can't remember what they were looking for. I might see if I can get an appointment for today. They'll likely either want me to have a darker line first or get me in for bloods.

I love chocolate! Don't over do it but am also not limiting myself if I ever want a bit more. I don't do well with diets so try eat things in healthy proportions.

So I'm only taking the individual vitamins right now because I want to finish the packs, I was on a multivitamin before and will go back on once I finish these. But I don't believe we need all the multivitamins and they're a bit of marketing, taking folic acid and vit d is enough if you've got no need to take others, no health issues etc. And my GP has confirmed the same. But I will switch to the multi because I can get them cheaper than all the individuals and it's one tablet

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 11:46

@choccrumpet ahh see if your bloods are good anyway that's great! I haven't checked mine for a long while, and I'm lazy at taking too many things, so just went for one pill 😂 I know what you mean tho, I'm probably just getting very expensive urine!

Good luck for the Dr's

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 12:07

@choccrumpet yes I'm the same, I've no intention of ever eating meat again and though I am Partial to a bit of chocolate or a pudding I don't eat them often, I just eat anything in moderation. The only reason I'm on all the extra vits is because it's taking so long. Most of them Are recommended in the book 'it starts with an egg' and all do different things for cycle or conceiving

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 12:46

@Marvellouslymadmum we all take what we think works for us. It's hard when you're trying for so long you want to try everything you can that might help. I totally get that and feel like that at times.

GP call wasn't very useful, he said to wait until next week and test again on Tuesday and to stop testing now (as if that's going to happen 😅). So basically keep waiting until next week and see if the line darkens and then go from there. As I thought they would say

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 14:45

Ah sorry they were so rubbish @choccrumpet :(
