I took a cheapy test this morning and got a positive after about 7 minutes, it wasnt a faint line either. But then i used a clearblue with the same urine sample and it came up negative. Although there were numerous blue spots dotted all over the result window.

The cheap tests, test 25 miu and im 3 days late for period.

which do i believe?

Try another one? I think the positive result should come out within a certain time as it says on package, otherwise it sould be evaporation lines. Cheap tests are just as reliable .

fingerwoman · 05/11/2007 12:38

What did it say about time limit on the packet?

I'd test again in a couple of days time.

pixie04 · 05/11/2007 12:40

I'd say you got a +. Most tests say don't read after 10 minutes so if you got your BFP after 7 mins I'd go with that. If you wanna be sure though do another test with a different brand.

rage · 05/11/2007 12:40

It said results within 3-5 minutes and do not read after 10 minutes! The line was very thick and fairly bright after about 6 minutes.

OP posts:
rage · 05/11/2007 12:41

sorry, at 6 minutes it had appeared and by 7 minutes it was very readable!

scorpio1 · 05/11/2007 12:41

umm, i had exactly this with cheapy ebay tests, i was not pg.

whenever i have had BFP (3 pregnancies) they tend to come up almost instantly.

Good luck with it all though!

VictorianSqualor · 05/11/2007 12:43

I'd test again, I think it being within the ten minute period says that it is definitely a possible positive, but the way the work is on the amount of hcg in your urin, which determines how dark/faint the line is, so would be fainter if it was a small amoutn rather than dark and late, iyswim.

rage · 05/11/2007 12:44

after the dye has gone through the test and the control line has appeared and its picked up and tilted slightly to the light then put back, would it make a difference to the test reading?

sorry if thats the dumbed question ever!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 05/11/2007 12:45

i think you need to buy a brand test or even a supermarket one and believe what that says. maybe a digi?

rage · 05/11/2007 12:46

and i also had some gungy brown spotting, like brown stained discharge which i thought could have been period on its way but then it stopped and nothing has happened.

snooks · 05/11/2007 12:48

my cheapo ebay ones came up with a very faint, barely-there line after 5-6 mins (but it was a couple of days before I was due). I'd say the only thing you can do is sit on your hands til at least the first urine of the day tomorrow and re-test. Good luck though, sounds promising!
(And please let us know)

rage · 05/11/2007 12:48

I did a clearblue after the cheap one and it was negative. Its confusing as to why I would get a fairly strong possitive on a cheap test (it was a tescos own brand) then a negative on a clearblue

I'd lay money on you being pregnant

scorpio1 · 05/11/2007 12:51

there are some tests called Predictor, you get them in chemists or some supermarkets. they use a dot instaed of a line-so easy to read, the dots come up purple if BFP very strongly-i got mine on cd32 out of average 35 day cycle. Maybe try those? I know, its so horrible waiting isnt it!! and couold you be having starnge bleeding because of hormone withdrawal from contraception? i had a coil and it was annoying after i had it out.

snooks · 05/11/2007 12:52

Noticed that you used the same urine sample for both tests - I can't remember, doesn't it matter 'how old' the sample is when you use it? Just thinking it might've been 'out of date' iyswim.

purpleflower · 05/11/2007 12:53

When I used tescos own brand it came up straight away with a positive. I'd try another brand in the morning with your first wee.

rage · 05/11/2007 12:53

I had a mirena coil but it was removed at the beginning of the year.

I'm so confused!!!!

OP posts:
rage · 05/11/2007 12:54

The sample was done an hour before i did the tests.

OP posts:
fingerwoman · 05/11/2007 12:55

I used tesco cheapy tests and they were accurate for me, but they did take a while to show up.
I guess you'll just have to wait and see lol

rage · 05/11/2007 12:56

I wish I hadn't done a bloody test now!

I may see if the doctor will do a blood test!

OP posts:
rage · 05/11/2007 12:56

How long?

OP posts:
snooks · 05/11/2007 12:58

Just thinking back with my be-fuddled brain, but I thought you had to test your sample within about 20 mins of weeing, but I might be wrong, does it say anything on the instructions? (Not sure why there's a time limit, I know there was on my Lloyds pharmacy own-brand ones, but there you go).

rage · 05/11/2007 12:59

Nope, not that i can see, and i read it from front to back lol

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 05/11/2007 13:00

oh its just my mirena after i had it removed i used to get breakthrough bleeding, like the browny discharge you described, thats all.

I think either get a brand test now or even better, in the morning (best wee!)

I know its so horrible waiting.

I think the time limit is hours-they advise you to refigerate sample after hours to keep the hcg molecules properly formed, IYSWIM? i think some tests are particularly fussy, others not so.

snooks · 05/11/2007 13:02

Hmmm, not sure then, 'tis true, the only thing you can do is wait til tomorrow then re-test (if the suspense doesn't kill you first lol). Am keeping everything crossed for you.
