I certainly feel like they should have offered you a transvaginal one at that point. There is a good BMJ article online on diagnosing ectopics with a easy flow chart of what actions should be taken etc. My EPU weren't the best at the beginning but once I got myself in there they were quick to sort out. I work for the health service tho so I knew something wasn't right and them fobbing me off on the phone saying bleeding was normal was very irritating! It depends on how much energy you think this will take from you - if your wanting to move on and make peace then leave it but if you still get annoyed and upset about how you were treated I wouldn't leave it. Women shouldn't have to scream and shout to be treated correctly and a ruptured ectopic is life threatening so fairly justifiable I'd say. Sorry for the rant!!

Lililou · 06/05/2021 22:42

I've still got some fight in me @that90sgirl , it's my OH that has been saying he wants me to leave it so I don't get myself upset but to be honest I'm still p*ed off about the whole thing and although I accept their apologies for the poor treatment and attitudes I don't think their answer to my question of why I wasn't offered a transvaginal is acceptable.

I remember at the time reading a report about the terrible outcomes of missed diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and that's what kept me fighting at the time. Not sure if it's the same report.

I've actually just googled transvaginal pregna y of unknown location again and multiple definitions show it as when nothing can be seen on a transvaginal scan, including NICE guidelines :

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng126/chapter/recommendations#pregnancy-of-unknown-location

If it helps to prevent someone else going through a missed early diagnosis then I feel it will be worth it

Lililou · 06/05/2021 22:47

Would you mind sending me that BMJ article @that90sgirl ?

that90sgirl · 06/05/2021 22:48

I absolutely agree @Lililou and I really commend you for speaking up in the first place! I know - you should have never been given that diagnosis without a transvaginal scan. They sound totally incompetent! I suppose your OH is just worried about you and wants what's best which is totally understandable. I hope you get a better second response and please keep us updated.

I hope your appointment went well @luan82? Any news?

I've had egg collection this morning with 15 eggs collected which I'm really happy with. All being well we will have one to transfer on Saturday!

@DoctorBambino oh my gosh that's amazing news!!! 🙂🙂🙂 I had my appointment yesterday with the nursing team it went well, they are planning to put me on the short protocol starting early next month !! I'm very nervous about the amount of eggs they may collect as my AFC was disappointingly low at 7 in November last year, and have heard that gives you an indicator of the amount of eggs you can expect at collection , one of the many downsides to DOR diagnosis!! Transfer date Saturday though - how very exciting!!! Did you opt for the embryo imaging? We have requested that they add this one in the hope that we do collect more than one egg!! Xx

MrsB2019x · 10/05/2021 18:56

@DoctorBambino 15 is amazing! Genuinely so excited for you for Saturday 😁

NigellasMicrowave · 10/05/2021 20:09

15 eggs @DoctorBambino sounds amazing! It feels like a very good number. Saturday is so close, I hope you are able to relax a little before then. Do let us know how you’re getting on.

Good to hear that the appointment went well @Luan82 - it sounds like you’ve not got long to wait until it all gets going! You can spend May doing whatever it is that makes you feel good in preparation.

Luan82 · 11/05/2021 08:23

@NigellasMicrowave - absolutely ❤️ a month of relaxation, fitness and acupuncture once a week! Xx

coffeewithmilk · 11/05/2021 19:46

@DoctorBambino wow that's a great number!! Hope you've had plenty of rest and lots of water! I was horrendously bloated after my egg retrieval. Fingers crossed for you over the next few days 🤞🏻🌈

NigellasMicrowave · 11/05/2021 20:03

How are you getting on, @coffeewithmilk?

coffeewithmilk · 11/05/2021 20:20

@NigellasMicrowave I'm getting on good! I'm going for my transfer on Wednesday next week. Trying to stay very relaxed this week, but also trying to keep busy at the same time so I don't go insane worrying!
Hoping it all goes to plan. Hope you are well xx

NigellasMicrowave · 11/05/2021 20:41

Oh that’s very exciting and nerve-wracking. All the very best to you - you deserve every bit of luck going. If you can, let us know how you get on - there will be lots of us wishing you well next week x

Luan82 · 12/05/2021 08:01

DoctorBambino · 12/05/2021 11:02

Thanks everyone!

Yes I'm also very bloated post egg collection @coffeewithmilk how long did it take for you to feel less bloated? I do feel better today but still massive! Trying to drink a huge amount of water and rest up!

Hey. I hope people won't mind me joining.

I unfortunately fit in with the MC and the Ectopic thread now but would be really grateful if some advice. I am 32 next month and DH is already 32.

After the worst 12 months of my life I write this sitting in a hospital bed after having my right tube removed late yesterday afternoon.

My story -

I had a MMC in May 2020 at 9 weeks after seeing HB at 6.5 weeks and a very early loss in November 2020 at 5.5 weeks. After this loss we went private for tests with Prof Regan and whilst most were clear, I have a raised blood clotting amplitude and was prescribed 150mg of asprin daily for my next pregnancy.

Found out I was pregnant again in mid-April. Started very light spotting at 5 weeks - had a scan and sonographer thought they saw a gestational sac but was diagnosed as pregnancy in unknown location. HCG was rising but not as fast as it should be - went back for a scan yesterday 2 weeks later and they found a live ectopic with a hb in my right tube measuring only a couple of days behind my dates.

I am tbh a bit concerned that they should have not left it 2 weeks for me to be re-scanned but - but a bit pointless now (I wasn't in considerable pain). Once diagnosed yesterday morning the nurses and doctors have also been fantastic with me.

I don't really know what I am asking here - but any tips/positive stories/things to ask the doctors would be most appreciated. I feel at a loss and would really love some words of wisdom to help me.

The only small benefit I can see is me and my husband are clearly fertile with it taking on average 3 months to conceive - and that my left ovary is my dominant one (right tube removed) - I have got confirmation that 2/3 of my pregnancies have been from my left ovary (also get on pain only from that side during ovulation).

Sorry you have all been through the same as me.

Xx

NigellasMicrowave · 13/05/2021 07:06

Oh @Louise276 I’m so sorry. You have been through so much and it is all shocking and traumatic. I didn’t have surgery, but I would say that my best advice would be to take it really easy over the next couple of weeks - time in bed, a walk round the block only when you’re ready for it. Your body needs to heal and rest.

Others will be better placed to advise than me, but if you want to enquire as to why it was left so long to scan you, I think you deserve a follow up meeting with the team to understand why. The PAL service at the hospital may be able to help with this.

I was really lucky and proactively offered counselling by my hospital but you might want to ask that if it is something you think might be helpful. Also whether there’s any follow up or check up procedures in place after some time has passed to allow your body to heal.

Don’t be shy in asking questions - I’ve found this thread one of the best sources of information and support.

Yes good luck ladies!! 🤞🏼 xx

HereIfYouNeedMe · 15/05/2021 10:56

AF showed up this week so getting ready to really try this month! @NigellasMicrowave how are you getting on? X

HereIfYouNeedMe · 15/05/2021 10:58

@Louise276 so sorry to hear what you've been through. Focus on recovery and looking forward, as best you can. sending lots of hugs your way xx

Louise276 · 15/05/2021 18:52

@HereIfYouNeedMe and @NigellasMicrowave Thank you for the kind words.

I am back at home now recovering. I am seeing progress every day in terms of being able to move around the house a bit more. Period has started but is very similar to a normal period rather than my miscarriages - which I presume is to be expected. Will take the rest of this week off to recover and then myself and my husband have a week off together which will be sorely needed. Going to Devon and Cornwall for a few days.

Already thinking of next steps - have any of you ladies had your tubes checked after an ectopic pregnancy? Our consultant has suggested it could be worthwhile checking the quality of my remaining tube. Before my ectopic we have been able to get pregnant fairly quickly (average 3/4 cycles) so have not thought of any fertility tests prior. Hospital checked both ovaries and remaining tube during my operation and apparently they looked in good condition.

I know another option could be IVF - but I think it would be worthwhile trying naturally first we consider this option.

My plan on the next month once I have fully recovered is get back on top of my health kick to help me physically and mentally recover form what has happened. We will hold off for at least a month before trying again - but I think we are very much on this journey now so won't want to hold off from trying for very long.

I have read some of the thread but would love to hear some of your stories. Xx
