AF after coming off desogestrel

How long did it take for AF to return after coming off of desogestrel?
This will be six weeks now - it's driving me crazy! Is this normal? I know they say it can take up to 3 months but surely my body knows the hormones aren't going in every day?
I've gone through bloating, sore nipples thinking, surely this must be it now... Then.... Nothing!
Please tell me this is normal?!

Hello Smile
It was exactly 4 weeks for myself, after been on it for 8 years - I had all the same symptoms pretty much from the 1st week of coming of it on 7th December.
However as it's only been a month I have no idea if that will now be my regular cycle length therefore when I'll ovulate.

dechie · 10/01/2021 10:29

Thank you @glow92. I'm naturally all over the place so it could be that. (From what I remember.)
We have DTD a few times and I have taken a test just to be sure but negative. I guess, as with everything in this process, it's just a waiting game. 😩
X

@glow92 just realised I came off the pill the day before you! 😁 X

@dechie ohh that's exciting so close in dates!
From what I've read you definitely could ovulate before first AF so definitely keep DTD 😉. I would say that a few days prior symptoms did ramp up a bit i.e. boobs got even more tender and I was so so hot in bed the night before AF had the window open and tiny shorts on when it was -2c (coming from someone who sleeps in long pj's and socks every night!).

dechie · 10/01/2021 16:04

@glow92 oh REALLY? That's interesting! Won't give up hope then.
My nipples were SO sore! Never had that symptom before but just think it's my body getting the hormones back.
I was tracking everything via Ovia but stopped as my OH had the Covid vaccine and they said not to try until 3 months after the 2nd jab as they haven't tested it on embryos or fertility but I'll start tracking it again so I know where my body is at.
Thank you. I had kinda given up caring about it all but you've made me realise that it's still important to track. Xx

Definitely worth a google, I don't think I did but who knows! We were quite 'busy' in December so I took an test on Xmas just to check as I don't drink much but I knew I would on the day. It might be worth taking one in the weeks to come if AF doesn't show.

dechie · 10/01/2021 17:33

This is true.
I'll keep logging and see how it goes. Like you said, I'll test next weekend if AF doesn't show.
Thank you. ☺️

Sorry to drop in but I’m similar!! On desogestrel last pill on 16th December and I’m still not on! Sore nipples, bloating, nausea etc etc and a BFN. Driving me mad how similar the symptoms clearly are. Glad I’m not the only one but my problem is I want to constantly test 😂 it took 17 months to conceive #1 so I shouldn’t really be getting my hopes up. Hope you’re both ok xx

glow92 · 11/01/2021 20:50

Hey @Gigi1109 I definitely don't want to insult you with any advice as this is #1 for me! From what I've read I don't think many get AF much sooner than the 4 week mark unless it's a withdrawal bleed... something I didn't have or was so brief I didn't realise.

Gigi1109 · 11/01/2021 20:55

@glow92 Oh don’t worry about that. I think the only thing that has threw me is when I came off of it last time to conceive our first I literally bled within a week! (I have suspected endo so it was a really awful painful period which I remember very well). So I suppose it’s just different this time round. Hopefully it’ll arrive soon so I can start tracking it properly

glow92 · 11/01/2021 21:00

@Gigi1109 fingers crossed. I don't want to get carried away either as this is my first full cycle I don't even know if/when I'll ovulate just have to go on app predictions for now! Only on CD10 currently.

Gigi1109 · 11/01/2021 21:11

It’s so hard isn’t it! I know that I didn’t ovulate ‘normally’ when trying conceive #1. I think that I ovulated straight after my period which can happen. I tried not to track too much with my first as it really got to me so I just tracked my periods! I think I may have ovulated about a week ago as I had really gross discharge which I’ve read sounds like the stuff you get when you ovulate (sorry tmi) Do what you thinks best! You can get the OPKs too. You never know x

dechie · 11/01/2021 21:16

@gigi1109 @glow92 I'm so so glad I'm not alone! I thought something was wrong with me! I'm also on #1 so a novice for sure!
I've NEVER had sore nipples before and I've not known anything like they were!
Still nothing. Another lady I've spoken to had an AF after 2 months. I also had Covid in November and some women have reported changes or complete stops in their cycle. Just got to keep positive and wait my turn! 😁

Gigi1109 · 11/01/2021 21:21

@dechie keeping positive is the best thing to do!! My friend came off her pill on the 14th December and she had her AF come yesterday! Everyone is totally different but it’s so nice to hear that we aren’t alone and also each other’s stories! I had covid in October!
So strange with the sore nipples isn’t it as that was one of my main symptoms when I’d conceived #1! Hate how similar the symptoms are🙈

dechie · 11/01/2021 21:29

@Gigi1109 I'm so glad we have this platform. I no longer feel alone and definitely not half as worried as I was.
The sore nips lasted nearly a week - I even took a test - negative of course.
So glad we all have eachother! X

OP posts:
glow92 · 11/01/2021 21:40

@Gigi1109 ohhh I should maybe start testing as I do have some OPK's if ovulation can potentially happen that soon after AF, have DTD last 2 days which is good if so!
So sorry you guys both had Covid, have noticed it's been discussed quite a lot on TTC threads.

Gigi1109 · 11/01/2021 21:57

@dechie it is so lovely isn’t it! I’m glad you feel that way! Woah a whole week bet they were driving you mad! I took one on Saturday and got a bfn! 🙄

@glow92 yeah I read that it’s possible! Our bodies are crazy and so different too! Although the month we conceived was the month we sat down and said we can’t go on stressing like we are, let’s relax, we are under the hospital, let’s delete all the apps etc and then boom pregnant after 17 months!

I thankfully was asymptomatic when I tested positive for covid and luckily OH and DS didn’t get it or if they did they were not unwell! X

glow92 · 11/01/2021 22:14

Hoping to take the non-stressed approach like you say, as much as it would be lovely for it to happen ASAP I'm going to try and only use the OPK's for the first couple months while things are settling down to try and track dates.
I just wish I didn't spend the majority of my adult life on something that stopped my cycle now it's taken me till now at age 28 to properly try to understand it!

Gigi1109 · 12/01/2021 10:08

@glow92 best way to be! My fingers are crossed for you! I know but it just seems so convenient at the time doesn’t it. I loved having no periods because when I do I collapse, vomit, have severe bowel issues etc because of the pain so I instantly wanted to get back on it after having my first. But I totally get the frustration with regards to your cycle, I didn’t realise it would take so long to come on this time round! Just shows how much your body can change!

dechie · 12/01/2021 13:27

@gigi1109 @glow92 we're also going for the non stressed approach. Makes it more fun I think! X

Gigi1109 · 13/01/2021 12:51

@dechie has AF arrived yet hun? X

dechie · 13/01/2021 13:10

@gigi1109 nothing yet. 🙄 Just keeping positive ☺️ x

OP posts:
Gigi1109 · 13/01/2021 13:15

@dechie me neither! Glad you’re staying positive 🥰 I’ve ordered tests as it’s driving me mad! Bloody waste of money but I can’t help it I’m terrible! X

dechie · 13/01/2021 13:32

I'm the same! I took one just before the new year. - negative. 😩 I know what you mean! 🤣 I just want to know! 🤣

glow92 · 14/01/2021 16:49

Where is everybody at? 🙂🙂
I'm CD12 predicted to ovulate Sunday (total guess after only 1 previous cycle but I'll go with it). Have done a couple OPK's so far but very low readings... hoping to see some increases very soon.
