First Fertility Clinic Appointment Tomorrow

dogmam · 04/01/2021 18:07

Me and my partner have our first appointment with our fertility clinic tomorrow!

We went to the GP after a year of TTC and after 21 day bloods and partners SA, we were referred straight away to the fertility clinic. GP tests were in October/November so it's moved along quite quickly so far.

Feeling slightly nervous but also excited to hopefully get some help! My partners SA showed low motility and morphology so I assume that will be discussed..
What else should i expect from this first appointment? Is there anything I should be asking?

Thanks in advance! I'll update this after the appointment tomorrow as I know there are a few others on here who are in a similar position and might find it useful.

@dogmam that's good! (Apart from the 2%). At least you know where you stand now? How do you feel about it?

Nothing to report here. 6dpo. Stomach hasn't been happy for a while and neither have my boobs- think it's just the drugs. Not really looking forward to doing that again to be honest. So just a waiting game here......

PurpleUnicorn01 · 27/04/2021 14:20

@dogmam that's great you have some dates to work towards.

Quick question to anyon on the nhs did you all have a hycosy dye scan? We know our issue is the SA.

Thank you all. I hope you're okay.

dogmam · 27/04/2021 19:00

@paintfairy I feel it's starting to get very real! I'm pleased the appointments aren't too far away.
Remind me when you are due to test again? Do you have to go to the clinic for a blood test or do you test at home? How has the wait been?

@purpleunicorn01 yeah, feel good having dates!
How are you? Your appointment is soon isn't it?
No Hycosy for me, I just asked the clinic last week if I could have one but they are very adamant I don't need one as they have already found the reason to progress with ICSI. What was your partners SA results again?

@juno231 doubt you're on your phone today, but hope the lap went well today!

paintfairy · 27/04/2021 19:00

@PurpleUnicorn01 I had a hsg (still dye) yes.

paintfairy · 27/04/2021 19:03

@dogmam next Wednesday technically is test day (14dpo). I have to go for a progesterone test tomorrow but I just do a normal pregnancy test next week. I can't test early though because of the trigger. Although I meant to test this morning (forgot and went to the loo!) and I was going to see if i could test the trigger shot out. Yeah June isn't too far! It'll come fast.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 27/04/2021 22:46

@dogmam yes my appointment is on Thursday so let's see. So first time SA was a really low count of 8 million the rest was was literally on the border of normal. So minimum level normal. This time count was 40 million but motility was 27% and the rest again was literally minimum end of normal whatever it says on the chart. I think it was these supplements i gave him.

I guess il find out on Thursday the plan of action. I hope i get some dates soon too. Feel like this has taken over my life. Hope you're okay x

@paintfairy thank you. Hope your well.

@juno231 thinking of you.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 27/04/2021 22:48

@dogmam what are implications? You said you had an appointment for it. Also after consent i assume you shouldn't have to wait too long. They may get you in earlier than you anticipated with any luck x

paintfairy · 28/04/2021 11:30

@PurpleUnicorn01 good luck for Thursday. It'll be good to get things moving.

I did an IC this morning. I had to laugh. I'm 7dpo. They told me i can't test until 14dpo because of the trigger shot giving a false positive. I meant to do it yesterday and forgot but I thought I'd do every other day and make sure it was out. To avoid any false hope in a week!
So there I was finally expecting to see the illusive 2 lines (albeit 'fake'), as I've never seen it in my life. And guess what? Stark bloody white! 😲
I feel robbed..... 🤣🤣🤣

PurpleUnicorn01 · 28/04/2021 12:06

Lol @paintfairy that is absolutely hilarious Grin. Hopefully you will get a real one at some point. Be worth the wait

Juno231 · 28/04/2021 18:42

Lap was an ordeal lol! I ended up staying the night as I couldn't wee to pass the discharge test. Drank well over 6litres of water yday but none of it made its way to my bladder, I just kept cascade vomiting it up 😅.

The consultant told me they found nothing and that they'd managed to damage my cervix a bit. She left and I cried a bit cause I was disappointed they found nothing. Ten minutes later I hear my name in the corridor repeatedly and then she comes back in to say I need to forget everything she said as she had me mixed up with another patient... So no damage to my cervix but I did have mild endometriosis on my left ovary which they removed. Doesn't explain why I haven't conceived in the last 17 cycles though!

She also said at our next appointment she'll get the ball rolling for the ivf application due to my age - in hindsight I think she was still thinking of the other patient!

Anyway, got discharged this morning and although I'm disabled and in pain I feel so much better than yesterday. That nausea and dizziness was disgusting and I was so exhausted I kept falling asleep at the drop of a hat!

PurpleUnicorn01 · 28/04/2021 19:14

@juno231 oh gosh that sounds awful. Get some rest. Hope you feel better soon.

paintfairy · 28/04/2021 19:24

@Juno231 I think you'll definitely need a few days to recover from that ordeal! 🙈

Kay00 · 28/04/2021 20:43

@juno231 as per our other thread... huge hugs!! I hope the hospital made you comfortable, I'd be pretty annoyed they mixed up the results afterwards. On the plus side hopefully IVF will be fast tracked. Or, maybe with the endo gone from your left ovary, you get your super 'the one' egg released and you conceive naturally xx

dogmam · 29/04/2021 11:45

@purpleunicorn01 the implications appointment is for them to run through the full treatment plan, how it works, what to expect etc basically giving all the information and a chance for us to ask questions, before signing the consent forms the following day. Good luck with your appointment today, hope you get some answers!

@paintfairy awww man! Can't believe it was negative STILL! Honestly, what's a girl got to do to see two lines! Are you going to ask the clinic why it would be nagative?

@juno231 hello! Hope you're recovering! What an ordeal with the whole mix up drama! Have you got a date for your next appointment?

I've just told my manager about the fact we need treatment? Very supportive in terms on getting time off for appointments but then proceeded to cheer and clap about how exciting it all is... not really exciting from where I'm sitting!

OP posts:
paintfairy · 29/04/2021 11:57

@dogmam some people metabolise it quicker than others. If I'd tested earlier i would have seen lines. I just didn't expect it to go that fast, but it was a week, so....

PurpleUnicorn01 · 29/04/2021 12:14

@dogmam

Thank you! Will keep you all posted. It is later on today

Juno231 · 29/04/2021 12:46

@dogmam omg it's only ever the fertile people that think IVF is exciting! and don't realise how insensitive it is to say... My next appointment was set a while back for the 17th of June I think but god knows if it'll get changed?

Thanks for the support ladies, I'm just at home atm hobbling around with a massive bloated tummy and unable to do most physical things lol.

paintfairy · 29/04/2021 12:55

@dogmam @Juno231 I think it's exciting to you in the sense of - something is finally happening! When you've just been sitting thinking it never would. But it's not exciting in the clapping and cheering sense. I mean yeah, its stressful. And something personally I'd rather no one know about at the time (so they can't keep asking).
@Juno231 hobbling doesn't sound fun. But it's an excuse not to have to do crappy housework. Good job you booked the time off!

Juno231 · 29/04/2021 13:05

@paintfairy yeah luckily the consultant told me to book the rest of the week off so that's what I've done. My boss has had 3 laps before so she knows what it can be like luckily. Still can't believe our team assistant has had 11 - and all much more extensive than my little crappy one!

paintfairy · 29/04/2021 13:09

@Juno231 11?! Flipping heck. That doesn't sound good at all. I don't think I'd be wanting to need 11. Ever!

PurpleUnicorn01 · 29/04/2021 13:39

Guys this could help some of you.

medimall.gr/prp-gives-hope-to-women-trying-to-get-pregnant/

Kay00 · 29/04/2021 16:09

@Juno231 11! Esh...! Does she have Endometriosis, or was for another reason? Its nice that you have been able to discuss with your colleagues. My boss is a man and he's only a year or two older than me, so i'm not sure I would feel comfortable telling him when any of my appointments are for. Luckily I don't have to ask his permission to take time off work etc.

@PurpleUnicorn01 Thanks for sharing... I read a few things about how PRP can help your eggs, but I suppose I don't really understand how it works. It sounds like a very new development, hopefully we see more research in this area in next few years.

thislittlebird · 29/04/2021 16:43

Erm so I am definitely not up to speed here and I saw elsewhere that Juno didn’t have the best time at the lap so I hope you’re feeling better @Juno231!

I’m just popping in to say I got off a teams call a few minutes ago and the hospital had called my husband. They called him in response to the PALS email I sent, and they’ve changed our date and brought us forward to May 6th (instead of 17th) and we’re not seeing the fertility department for diagnostics at Sidcup and not the gynaecologist at Woolwich...so that’s different.

The lady on the phone said to him she was concerned that this was going to simply delay things so she’s changed it and we’re seeing fertility face-to-face next week to hurry things along.

thislittlebird · 29/04/2021 16:44

Ugh stop typo

*we ARE NOW seeing the fertility dept and not the gynaecologist

PurpleUnicorn01 · 29/04/2021 17:13

Hi Guys, so just had my 2nd appointment, they said they will send off for my funding today, then the fertility unit will contact me to complete some online forms before treatment starts. Its about 3 months until I start. So really similar to you all. Smile.
