First Fertility Clinic Appointment Tomorrow

Me and my partner have our first appointment with our fertility clinic tomorrow!

We went to the GP after a year of TTC and after 21 day bloods and partners SA, we were referred straight away to the fertility clinic. GP tests were in October/November so it's moved along quite quickly so far.

Feeling slightly nervous but also excited to hopefully get some help! My partners SA showed low motility and morphology so I assume that will be discussed..
What else should i expect from this first appointment? Is there anything I should be asking?

Thanks in advance! I'll update this after the appointment tomorrow as I know there are a few others on here who are in a similar position and might find it useful.

@Tillybabs i had my amh done privately and a pelvic scan came to around £200 in total but it sped things up so was worth it.

Tillybabs · 29/06/2021 10:30

@PurpleUnicorn01 thanks I will see if I can get that done sooner privately

@Juno231 having looked up what a baseline scan is, I thought the same!

Very odd that I haven't had the amh test already.

Tillybabs · 29/06/2021 10:34

Ive just read that the AMH can be done at any time of the month. The receptionist told me to do it during my next cycle.

But I can walk into the hospital any time to have the blood test so I'm just going to do that this week.

What do you think?

Juno231 · 29/06/2021 10:36

@Tillybabs i'd say go for it - like you said it's not meant to make a difference. The only thing would be if they've actually booked you in for more than just AMH and that those bits were cycle sensitive?

Tillybabs · 29/06/2021 10:44

@Juno231 it's all a tad disorganised tbh

I had a letter about my Hycosy and had that on Sunday. I thought I would call today to see what the next stage is.

The receptionist then informed me my next follow up appointment is on August but then asked if I have any more tests to do. I mentioned the amh and she said I can just go any time to the hospital to get that done. But she said she would check what other tests im waiting for.

When she checked, she mentioned I'm on the list for the baseline scan and that I need to book that in on my next period and to do the amh on day 2-5 of my next period.

But looking online, the amh can be done any time so I'm going to walk in this week to get that done.

Kay00 · 29/06/2021 11:35

@Tillybabs that does all sound pretty confusing. I had my AMH done on a random day where I walked into the hospital to do it.

Kay00 · 29/06/2021 11:36

Did you letter give any further information about what the results of your HyCoSy were?

Tillybabs · 29/06/2021 11:41

@Kay00

I haven't yet no. I guess I have to wait for my follow up appointment for that or if they write or call me up before then.

I'm going to get the blood test done tomorrow and then see what that result says and then book my baseline scan when I have my next period.

I'm assuming though that they would only start that process if my amh is in a good range?

I'm so confused lol

Juno231 · 29/06/2021 11:49

@Tillybabs is it possible it's just an ultrasound to see what things look like in there normally - and her use of "baseline" is a bit misleading? And yeah NHS will only treat you if you have a minimum AMH level I think. Plus if it's low they'll expedite the IVF route.

Kay00 · 29/06/2021 11:50

@Tillybabs

I guess that's why they're asking for it. I remember from my first meeting at the fertility clinic the consultant said that as my FSH and testosterone levels were normal that it was very unlikely I had PCOS (plus my BMI is normal etc etc), and that she wasn't going to offer me the AMH, but asked if I wanted it (I said yes because I would be forever wondering otherwise). And then my AMH was through the roof and my ovaries enlarged and poly cystic on the scan. So I must be an unusual case.

Perhaps the AMH wasn't offered to you yet as your consultant is sure that you don't have PCOS or low reserves?

Tillybabs · 29/06/2021 12:04

@Juno231 no she was adamant it's a baseline scan. I even called her back to double check.

I had some bloods taken at the start and so asked her to double check if my amh level was taken then and she said it wasn't.

I know my other results came back normal apart from my prolactin that was slightly high. So I had to have that again at a different time of day and it came back normal.

@Kay00 maybe but I know ivf on the nhs is dependant on egg reserves so I'm surprised they didn't do that first.

Thanks for everyone's help.
I rang the doctors the other day and they're sending me for some bloods that are due before my period. I've asked my Husband to also ring doctors, would they do a sperm analysis? Bloods?
What are some suggested vitamins for my husband to take? I'm taking the seven seas one.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 21/08/2021 13:47
