First month TTC

Hi ladies,

I’m new to this and would really appreciate your help. This is my first month TTC. I’m currently on CD4 so still middle of my period. Just wondering what helped you all conceive in your first month of trying and any tips you have. I have clearblue OPK ready and have been tracking my cycles for a which vary from 27-34 day cycles with 2 random 45 day cycles one of them being my last cycle.

Anyone else TTC this month?

Thanks in advance x

I would say the only thing that will really help is making sure you DTD plenty around the right time. I wouldn't just rely on timing it around the ovulation tester though as you're fertile for up to 5 days before ovulation. So just have some fun DTD slot and use the ovulation tester to inform when to test for pregnancy.

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 10:15

@Curiosity101 thank you. I’m planning on DTD every other day throughout this cycle. Fingers crossed it works.

Hi @Pixiedust018 starting my journey this month, my AF started today.

I am similar to you as I have long cycles, even had a couple of 50 day cycles. As my cycles were so long and varied in length, I started using clearblu digitalis just to see when I reach peak in prep for starting. I never got a static smiley over the 3 months tracking which made me think I was broken! I stopped last month and I ended up having a 30 day cycle for the first time in over a year. I don't know if it's linked but I don't know if subconsciously using OPKs were making me really stressed and ended up lengthening my period(??) or if it's just a coincidence. And that's before we even started trying!

We have decided to just DTD every other day and see what happens. Keep it fun and what happens happens ☺️

Annabelle0852 · 03/01/2021 15:52

Hey! We're also TTC for the first time this month for our first!

I'm on CD13 and I've just had a positive OPK (cheapies from Amazon) so me and OH will be getting busy these next couple days!

Exciting but scary adventure isn't it?!

Chall139 · 03/01/2021 17:58

Hi ladies, we're also TTC for the first time this month. We did DTD around some days I thought I might ovulate last month but I hadn't been doing OPKs which I will do this month. Got my first BFN today - which was to be expected with not trying properly but am 6 days late so was a bit hopeful. Are you guys going to do OPKs/SMEG/preseed or anything like that whilst TTC?

PurBal · 03/01/2021 18:08

We were lucky and conceived fairly quickly. But I would be cautious and prepare for disappointment. There's only a 20% chance each month, but despite DTD every other day the previous cycle the month we conceived we only had sex once in my fertile window. According to the NHS: 1 in 7 couples need support conceiving and 1 in 8 pregnancies end in miscarriage, other studies suggest these numbers are higher. We prepared for the long haul as there is so much chance involved. Good luck! I hope it's not too long a journey for you.

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 19:07

@littledej It can get very stressful. We’re planning to dtd every other day also like you say what happens happens. Good luck x

@Annabelle0852 Keep us updated in your tww. It is very exciting isn’t it. I can’t wait to start trying and just enjoy the experience hope it doesn’t take us too long x

@Chall139 sorry to hear about your BFN. How many dpo are you? I’m going to be doing opk this month and dtd every other day. I’ve also been taking folic acid for about a month now and giving OH zinc and vitamin C (heard this helps sperm but not sure how true it is but won’t hurt him having some extra vitamins) hope you get your BFP soon.

@PurBal thanks for the info. Trying not to get my hopes up as I want to enjoy the experience and just have fun as well just nice to see everyone else’s experiences TTC. Hoping it is a quick journey for us but it not I’m sure we’ll get our BFP when the time is right x

Hiya, we started TTC this month too.
I'm just off the pill in December so I have no idea what's going to happen yet, need a period before I can start tracking and ovulation etc accurately I suppose.
Unless by some amazing luck I got pregnant I the last week or so 🤞

Either way im excited and impatient and hope you get good news soon

2021ComeAtMe · 03/01/2021 19:23

Please can I join?

I'm CD3 so just behind you @Pixiedust018 Smile have checked to see when I should be most fertile (assuming I go straight back to a 29 day cycle) and will get to lots of sex as soon as my period finishes.

I have a DC already who'll be 3 in April. It took 6 weeks ish for me to fall pregnant that time so I'm hoping for another quick one (although I'm a stone heavier and obviously a few years older this time round).

Hoping to have sex every 1-2 days throughout this cycle to give us a good chance 🤞🏻

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 19:50

@Taliasometimes I’ve been off my pill just over a year and I ovulated within 3 weeks of coming off my pill so there’s always a chance. I can’t wait to start trying currently on CD4 so still very early days but I’m very excited x

@2021ComeAtMe we’re cycle sisters☺️ Yay! Hope it happens quickly for you. This will be my first baby so I’m very excited just hope I don’t become obsessed with it so trying to keep an open mind as anything is possible. It’s lovely to hear positive stories so hope we all have positive ones to share this month x

Chall139 · 03/01/2021 19:52

@pixiedust018 I'm not sure how many DPO I am as it was more of a shot in the dark based on what Clue was saying. We knew it would be unlikely as OH was on medication so we couldn't properly try in Dec until he finished and finished mid cycle so we just DTD every other day. But this month when AF shows up we'll try properly! 🙄 So annoying AF is 6 days late as I just want to get on and try!

jessi60 · 03/01/2021 19:53

I luckily fell pregnant in my second month of trying. Some would class it as my first proper month after having a period. I had been on hormonal contraception for ten years aswell. I downloaded the pre mom app which I found really helpful, bought the easy at home ovulation test strips off Amazon and started doing them a few days after my period finished and then used the app to scan to ovulation tests strips in. And then dtd in my predicted fertile window! I also was taking pregnacare pre conception vitamins.

Good luck ✨❤️ Xx

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 19:58

@Chall139 I know it’s so frustrating isn’t it especially if you get BFN you’d rather just start AF ready for the next month. Maybe try dtd that helps my AF start when it’s late. I had a 45 day cycle last month and couldn’t wait for it to come as we already decided we were going to TTC so just wanted to get started. Keep us updated x

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 20:00

@jessi60 wow thanks for sharing your positive story! It’s reassuring to see that there is a chance that it can happen first time. How long before you started trying did you take the pre conception vitamins? X

Chall139 · 03/01/2021 20:30

Haha @Pixiedust018 I'm sure my OH won't mind DTD. He's really excited to TTC because of how much DTD it involves! Thanks, I'll give it a go and hope AF hurries up. I had the copper coil out in October and as it's not hormonal I thought it would be normal cycles but apparently not. How many days do you have until ovulation?

Pixiedust018 · 03/01/2021 20:50

@Chall139 my OH is the same lol! Not to sure about copper coil I was on the pill and that messed with my cycles a little. On my app it’s saying to start doing opk’s in 5 days so will start dtd every other day probably end of the week until I get positive opk.

2021ComeAtMe · 03/01/2021 22:05

@Pixiedust018 that we are! I do think having a relaxed approach helps. I didn't chart my cycle or anything previously. We agreed to be casual for 6 months and just see what happened and it worked for us Smile I've a vague idea of when I'll be fertile this cycle (assuming I ovulate right away 🤞🏻) but not going to use OPKs or anything yet. If you have any questions, with this being your first, feel free to ask away!

jessi60 · 03/01/2021 22:18

@Pixiedust018 I started the same day as I had my implant out so the end of September and then I got my BFP in December. So was taking them just under 2 months. They do make your urine go fluorescent yellow so don’t be alarmed if you notice that 😂 it’s just your body getting rid of the excess vitamins it doesn’t need. Xx

Annabelle0852 · 03/01/2021 22:55

Hey @Chall139 😊

As we're only at the start of our journey currently just using OPKs to make sure we're DTD at the right time and taking the usual vitamins etc. I think if we're still on the journey in a few months time look at other tricks.

What about you?

Pixiedust018 · 04/01/2021 06:45

@2021ComeAtMe I’ve heard being relaxed more does help. Just have to see what happens and thank you that’s so lovely I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions if I get my BFP xx

@jessi60 I’ve only been taking folic acid for about a month now so might switch to them if I don’t catch this cycle x

Chall139 · 04/01/2021 07:59

@Pixiedust018 that's exciting, so soon before you can start BDing.

@Annabelle0852 I'm the same, going to use OPKs to see when I'm ovulating and going to try the SMEP. I also bought some pre seed to try as I saw on other threads people conceived in the first month with it. It might be a gimmick but thought I'd give it a try. But not looking forward to using it 😂

@Pixiedust018 & @Annabelle0852 have you told anyone you're TTC? We're keeping it quiet so there is no pressure so I joined MN so I can talk to others also going through the same thing!

Pixiedust018 · 04/01/2021 12:22

@Chall139 no we haven’t told anyone but everyone knows I can’t wait to be a mum. Any sign of your AF showing?

OP posts:
Annabelle0852 · 04/01/2021 12:47

@Chall139 We're keeping it quiet for the time being - don't need any more pressure than that we put on ourselves right now!

I have PCOS, though the doc seems unphased as I'm almost asymptomatic right now (healthy weight and regular periods) so doesn't think it will impact fertility. But doc did say he'll refer to fertility specialist in 3/4 months if we don't get anywhere. I think if we get that referral we'll decide on the outcome of that whether/when to tell people.

Like you, deffo glad for MN to talk to people about it!

FieldView · 04/01/2021 13:53

I'm month one of ttc too - CD18 though (and impatient already). I've used the CB OPK this month so we'll see how it goes! Trying to settle down though as I suspect we'll be on this journey for a while...

Natta1 · 04/01/2021 14:37

We're TTC this month too! I have an idea when I'm ovulating and due a period in 7/8 days, but we've started now anyway and will try every other day.

We're keeping it really relaxed though, won't be tracking or anything, just seeing what happens! Definitely don't want to start stressing about it as my body doesn't react well to stress haha
