Struggling to conceive after miscarriage

WildflowerPetals · 06/12/2020 21:05

Hi everyone,
I had a missed miscarriage back in April - baby had stopped growing around 6 weeks but I only found out at my 12 week scan.
Me and DH have been TTC ever since but haven’t had any success yet. I’m now on my 7th cycle since the miscarriage.

I had some hormone bloods done at the doctors but they all came back normal and they won’t do any other tests until we’ve been trying for 12 months.

I just wondered if anyone else had struggled to conceive after a miscarriage? Or if anyone had any suggestions for me?

A bit of information about me...

  • I’m 27 (28 next week) & DH 29
  • TTC #1
  • 31 day cycle with 10/11 day luteal phase (although this months has been 12)
  • Usually get positive OPK around CD19
  • Myself & DH have been taking conception vitamins since the miscarriage
  • Stopped taking contraception (POP) around July 2019

Any help would be appreciated x

Hi @WildflowerPetals I experienced a MMC with my first pregnancy when I was only 19, I went for my 12 week scan and like you there was no development. It took me a year to fall after that, I now have a 9 year old and 6 year old and we're trying for a 3rd. The experience of the MMC is awful and will leave you worried at every little twinge. It will happen for you, the times I tracked ovulation, planned it all I never fell. When we had fun, maybe got drunk... well the outcomes are both snoring away in bed. Xxxx

Hi OP, so sorry to hear of your MMC. Hope you are doing okay.

I had a MC at 7 weeks in October 2019 and it has taken me until now to fall again! I dont have much advice because the only thing we did differently this month was didn't try haha! We were expecting to see fertility doctors next month so we just didn't bother this month and I've been so focused on Xmas! Only took a test out of sheer curiosity because AF was late but I honestly didn't expect to get a BFP at all.

Sending baby dust your way!

Hi OP,
I don't have any advice but wanted to say I'm in the same boat
MMC in April at 12 week scan and no luck since.
I was completely obsessive for about 5 months afterwards because I was desperate to be pregnant again before my due date in October.
That didn't happen, and it was really upsetting that month, but we've decided to take a much more relaxed approach this last month and a bit, and it's definitely taken the pressure off.
Still not pregnant yet, but we've made peace with the fact that sometimes it just takes a while. Literally everyone around me is announcing pregnancies at the moment, so I'm actually a bit glad for all of the lockdown situations as I think I'd be really struggling to keep a smile on my face by now!

Anyway, that's a really long post of absolutely zero advice. Wishing you the best of luck, and hope you're able to stay positive! Smile

@marcella64 Thanks for sharing your story, it’s really reassuring. I’ve ran out of OPK’s now and I’m not going to be buying anymore. I’ve told DH we’ll just have to wing it this month as I find trying to time DDT around sex stressful and obviously that doesn’t help! Good luck with TTC #3 x

@Jurassiclover Thank you and congratulations! I’m doing alright, some days I just feel really fed up with it all though. I’m not using OPK’s my next cycle and trying to be more relaxed - we’ll see how that goes. Best of luck with your pregnancy x

@nizo1245 So sorry you’re in the same boat as me but it’s nice to know I’m not alone. My due date was the beginning of November and a really close friend of mine was due 2 weeks after. I was dying to be pregnant before then just to take the edge off but it didn’t happen. She had a beautiful baby girl and I’m over the moon for her but it does hurt a bit knowing I don’t have my baby yet. Like you say, everywhere you look there’s pregnant women and pregnancy announcements. It’s hard to get away from. I hope you’re okay and you have some luck this month 🤞🏼 X

I was previously on a thread of women TTC after MMC and I think all of them have conceived now apart from me. It made me feel so alone and like something was wrong with me, so thank you all for sharing your stories - they’ve given me some hope 😘

did they check your dh's numbers?

WandererLost · 07/12/2020 11:53

Hi ladies, I'm so sorry to read about your miscarriages Sad

I had a MMC earlier this year and have failed to conceive since.

Just a few weeks after I miscarried, my sister announced she was pregnant. She even had the exact same spotting I had which resulted in my MC, but thankfully hers is fine so far.

I feel bad but I just can't be around her right now Sad The MMC has really affected my mental health and I need to get into a better place before I can see her growing stomach.

WildflowerPetals · 07/12/2020 18:19

@bluebell34567 They won’t test until we’ve been trying for a year unfortunately.

@WandererLost Sorry for your loss. I completely sympathise with you with regards to your sister. My friend who was pregnant the same time as me is like a sister. We’ve been friends since school but I also work with her. I had to watch her bump get bigger and bigger while I was struggling to conceive. She was hugely supportive though and still is now, I’m sure your sister is the same. Just know that it’s totally fine if you feel you need some distance from her atm and I’m sure she understands. Hope you start feeling better about the situation soon.

How long have you been TTC since your MC? Have you spoke to your GP about it? x

@WildflowerPetals so sorry for your loss, I had a mc at 9 weeks 2 months ago. Amazingly I appear to be pregnant again (but it’s extremely early days - 3 weeks, 5 days away from my period due date and only a faint line on first response). This might seem an odd question but how often do you do it around ovulation? We do it every day for about a week around the time my app says I’m ovulating, and every other day around that. It becomes a chore but seems to have worked this time.

I also take myo inositol to help me ovulate (but I have pcos and also take metformin too).

Not sure if this is helpful. I hope you get lucky soon! Xx

peacheswife · 07/12/2020 22:05

Hi all, I had a missed miscarriage in February and since then my periods have been off. I've missed two months all together through stress - 1st was when I was due and 2nd was this month the month I found out. Did anyone else have trouble with their periods within the first 10 months?

I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you all. I spoke to my doctor after my miscarriage and he said it is always more difficult after this type but they don't know why.

Doremifasol · 07/12/2020 22:28

You are not alone...
I had MMC in Nov 19 and nothing since then. We are Both healthy, nothing is wrong ( apart from having only one tube from previous ectopic p), ovulation confirmed, semen analysis great... but we are 37 so I guess that could be the reason why it's a bit harder (TTC for #2 for 3+ years now). Going for IVF in Jan but secretly hoping it will happen for us this month to avoid whole IVF story.

WildflowerPetals · 07/12/2020 22:38

@Cafeaulait27 Firstly, congratulations! I hope all goes well for you this time 🤞🏼 We usually DTD every other day (and sometimes every day) around ovulation and also every other day the week before. Can you get Myo Inositol over the counter? I’m worried there’s something wrong ovulation wise as even though I get positive OPK’s I don’t get any ewcm and haven’t since the MMC. I mentioned it to my doctors and they didn’t seem concerned. I’ve ordered some Evening Primrose Oil to see if that will help though x

@peacheswife Sorry for your loss. I can’t offer any advice on missed periods, sorry. Has anything else seemed strange about your periods since your MMC? That’s interesting that you’re doctor said that, I’ve not heard that before, definitely could be right though x

@Doremifasol Sorry to hear you’re struggling too. It must be so frustrating knowing everything is okay but still not being able to conceive. Hope you get your wish and conceive naturally soon x

@WildflowerPetals yes I buy mine from Zita West - it’s a powder so I just have it with water. It seems to have worked for me ☺️ Hope it helps you too xxx

Hi hun I'm having the same problem I had a chemical miscarriage in September and just can't seem to get pregnant,I had a faint line 3 days ago but started bleeding yesterday some people are saying period some people are saying implantation, not sure maybe could be a chemical again, but someone said you can't get a chemical without missed period so confused right now 😢
Tinseltown85 · 15/12/2020 17:33

Never had implantation bleeding so I don't know

peacheswife · 15/12/2020 18:06

@Tinseltown85 the bleeding would be lighter than a period if you were pregnant and implantation bleeding happens before your period if you were going to have it.
(I've been told this by a nurse when I went last month)

I have everything crossed for you all.

After being two weeks late and having a negative test after being 3 days late I've had a positive test and I'm due my baby in august 3 days after the last one was due.

🙏🏻🙏🏻
