Just that really!

I'm aware I'm in the 'older' bracket now but really want to soon start trying for another (have 1 already).

We have been thinking about it for a while now and have this time to see what happens. Theres only positives when we weigh everything up.

Planning on starting to try next month.

Anyone else?

Hiya, I’m not quite 40 yet, I’m 38, but still definitely within that ‘older’ age bracket.

I have 3dc already from a previous relationship all conceived very easily, but the last one was when I was only 32.

I’ve fallen pregnant a few times with my dp, a miscarriage at 9 weeks back in January, and then 2 chemicals in March and June.

We’ve had fertility tests done to check all is well and everything was great. All my blood results were great, indicating a good strong ovulation. Scans showed good egg reserve and follicles etc. Dp had a semen analysis and all was great there too, although he’s only 30.

We’ve been ttc now for 13 months and it’s likely just down to my age and my eggs being of poorer quality, so just a case of keep trying and hope I still have 1 or 2 ‘good’ eggs left that will implant and stick.

I take a higher dose of folic acid, vit d, and 200mg of ubiquinol (to help improve egg quality).

Good luck with your journey! Hope it’s nowhere near as long as mine! X

16lily · 27/10/2020 16:18

I’m in the older bracket at 39 and ttc. My dh is in his 50’s though so I’ve promised I won’t hold my breath and try to be realistic. I have 1 ds who’s 4 and I’d dearly love another. Wish I’d started sooner really. We started last month so fingers crossed

timeforanother1 · 27/10/2020 20:01

@Moominmiss gosh you've been through a lot, what a journey.
Sounds like it's a waiting game- hopefully not too much longer.
Are your vitamins ttc ones or separate?
I need to get some ttc so they're in my system starting to work and top up my levels.

@16lily you sound similar to me, mine is nearly 3. Have had to wait ttc because of other things going on so it really wasn't the right time before now.

Do either of you track your fertile days?
I did previously and was so lucky to get pregnant first month trying- hope it will be that easy this time!

Are you avoiding any foods/ alcohol?

@timeforanother1 I’ve said I’m happy to keep ttc until I hit 40 then I’ll call it a day. That will be 3 years trying by then and I’m not sure I could manage any longer. 13 months so far has been torturous at times!

I had tried ttc multivitamins but found they messed with my cycles and made them longer. So I take separate folic acid, separate vit d and then the ubiquinol capsules too.

I had been tracking ovulation using opk’s but found it stressful not knowing when to start testing each month (as my cycles can vary a little), and I’d often miss catching my peak. So 2 months ago I bit the bullet and bought the OvuSense monitor. I’d never wanted to chart bbt as I don’t always sleep well and know I couldn’t commit to taking my temp at the same time each day so it would never be reliable. The monitor takes all that stress out. I just pop it in at night before going to sleep and it tracks my core body temp throughout the night and then I take it out in the morning and then link it to my phone and it gives me my temp. It predicts ovulation window and then confirms ovulation day etc.

I’ve also tried soy isoflavones a few cycles. I had noticed my ovulation was often quite late (cd18-22) and soy works like natural clomid by bringing ovulation earlier. It worked for me and brought it forward to cd13-16. Stupidly this cycle I thought I’d try a natural cycle and see what my body would do, but I’m currently cd16 and nothing so far which is annoying. I’ll be back on the soy next cycle!

I really hope you have more luck than I have so far! I think because it happened so easily for me with my schedule, I assumed it would this time!

Moominmiss · 27/10/2020 20:27

Oh and I don’t drink alcohol at all anyway, and have never drank tea/coffee etc, never smoked, so nothing to cut out there. There’s nothing I’m not eating, but am trying to just generally eat more healthily. I could do with losing a few lbs!

Sunny4124 · 27/10/2020 20:39

Hi :-) Yes, I’m 42, with a 4 year old DD. I also had a MC 2 years ago. Both times - with DD (I was 37) and with the MC (I was 40) I got pregnant quite quickly, but now I’m 42, who knows :-) We’ve decided we’ll give it 18 months to see - I’m on cycle 1 of properly trying now and I’m on the 2WW :-) Good luck! :-) xxx

timeforanother1 · 27/10/2020 20:57

@Moominmiss you sound like an expert I hope you don't mind me coming to you in a few months if I need to?!
How do you take soy?

My cycles can be hit and miss.
I think I'll use the opk's to begin with. I'm secretly half expecting it'll happen in the first few months because I'm hoping so much!

@Sunny4124 wow- fingers crossed!
Have you waited after your mc to try again?

Any ladies going through loss at any stage must be so so strong to get through it.
I dread that happening.

OP posts:
Sunny4124 · 27/10/2020 21:44

@timeforanother1
Yes keep your fingers crossed please, I’ve convinced myself I’m pregnant already although it might all be in my head and I can’t test for another 5 days!
Yes I couldn’t face it straight away after MC, and then we decided to wait a bit longer as our daughter is a handful :-)
Good luck next month if you try, let us know how you get on xxx

Moominmiss · 27/10/2020 22:34

@timeforanother1 I don’t feel much of an expert but sadly know more than I hoped I would ever need to! But of course feel free to ask anything 😊

As for the soy you can buy tablets. I just take Tesco own brand. They’re stocked with all the other vitamins and are usually with other vitamins to treat menopause symptoms.

The tablets each contain 40mg of soy. It’s recommended to take them either cd1-5, 2-6, 3-7, 4-8 or 5-9. The earlier you take them the likelier you are to bring ovulation forward but also produce more eggs. But the egg won’t necessarily be the most mature and ready. The later you take them will ensure the best most mature egg, but won’t necessarily bring ovulation forward at all. 3-7 is often said to be the best days as its middle ground and the best of both worlds. Slightly earlier ovulation whilst still ensuring a healthy mature egg is released.

I have always taken them cd3-7 and it’s always brought my ovulation forward noticeably. I take 4 tablets (160mg) days 3 and 4, then 5 tablets (200mg) days 5, 6, and 7. (Those doses are the equivalent of taking clomid).

kirinm · 28/10/2020 17:10

I'm 42 and trying. I had my DD when I was 40 and stupidly assumed it wouldn't be too difficult. I've had two chemical pregnancies since we started ttc about 8 or 9 months ago now.

Can anyone tell me about ubiquinol? What is it and is it prescribed? Thanks

Blueskysunsout · 28/10/2020 17:16

I’ve been trying to conceive my 3rd dc since I was 40. I was 46 last weekend and that was my cut off. I’m so sad.
We had all the tests going and were given the reason as unexplained infertility as all was ok.
My two other dc were with my exH and my new partner and I wanted one together as he has no children of his own, although he adores mine but they are 16 & 14. I was with hi. Since they were 9 &11 but he missed out on all the baby years, he’d make such a great dad.

Moominmiss · 28/10/2020 18:03

@kirinm so ubiquinol is a supplement you can take that helps with lots of things but most importantly can help improve egg quality in older ladies.

You don’t need a prescription, it’s not cheap to buy, but worth it IMO. I buy mine from Nature’s best. The capsules are 100mg and I take 2 a day as 200mg daily is a recommended dose.

Em39ma · 28/10/2020 21:11

Hi all
I’m 41 and trying for no.2. My DD is 12months. I fell the first month of trying back in March/April but unfortunately miscarried in June at 10 weeks.
I had a miscarriage before my DD to, so hoping the next one sticks like she did.

timeforanother1 · 29/10/2020 21:07

@Sunny4124 any more symptoms? When do you plan to test or will you wait to your due?

@Moominmiss thank you! That's all really helpful to know.

@kirinm & @Em39ma I'm also hoping and half expecting it will happen quite soon- very silly but feel so hopeful.

@Blueskysunsout are you tempted just to try once or twice more or is that really it now? Must be so hard for you.

Em39ma · 29/10/2020 21:59

I’m due AF tomorrow. Had sore boobs and feeling queasy, but I can do that with both. Got some FRER today, might wait until Saturday if AF doesn’t turn up tomorrow

Sunny4124 · 29/10/2020 22:23

@timeforanother1 - I feel like I have symptoms but not sure if they’re in my head! I’m so tired, sore boobs and a bit of cramping (which I thought was AF but it’s not)..... I’m due on Monday, I’m desperate to test, but think I’ll wait until Sunday :-)

@Em39ma - Sorry about your previous mc. Good luck for testing, you’re very patient to wait until after AF due!

Good luck everyone xxx

Happysbno4 · 29/10/2020 23:53

Help I really need to make a decision! I am 41 with an 18 month old dear son with my partner! He is an adored little rainbow baby after mmc! His birth was very traumatic with placenta abruption resulting in a huge blood loss to me.

I also have 3 much older children with my ex husband. All still in our very small home!!!

I need to quickly make a decision if we are to have another baby.... which i would love. But so many factors to consider! Not least the risks to me.

Any advise welcome.

timeforanother1 · 30/10/2020 22:18

Oh @Em39ma have you tested today?
Fingers crossed for you!

@Sunny4124 oh wow you too- hope you get a positive, will you test tomorrow?

OP posts:
timeforanother1 · 30/10/2020 22:26

@Happysbno4 that sounds scary, how were your previous births? Any reasons why the last went the way it did?

I was similar to you some months ago looking at all the reasons to not have another. Our house will be very full with another as it's not big and we can't move for lots of financial reasons. There's other things too but we decided there are more positives about a new baby and a full house for example doesn't mean anyone goes without or isn't fed etc.
We may not fall pregnant but I want to try and let the stars decide!

What does your partner/ family think?
What about medically have you been advised not to?

OP posts:
Blueskysunsout · 31/10/2020 00:30

@timeforanother1

I’m still not using contraception, I can’t get my head around why it hasn’t happened. I still have reg period etc but I’ve noticed where they used to start light for a day then be moderate/heavy for 3 days then a couple of light days, I now seem to get 3-4 days of barely there brown spotting followed by a day and half of really very heavy flow and then it abruptly stops. I’m thinking I may be menopausal.

sabtom · 31/10/2020 01:37

Hi! Not a mum.... yet 🤞🏻 but I am 40 (nearly 41) and TTC #1. Been trying for nearly 2 years, and the only time I had BFP ended in mmc. Had a round of IUI which was unsuccessful and now hoping to go for mild IVF. However, by the time we can afford that I might be nearer 42 Sad

Em39ma · 31/10/2020 06:03

@timeforanother1 I did test yesterday as AF didn’t turn up, a strong negative. I’ve just woken up and AF has turned up over night.
Have to keep trying.

Happysbno4 · 31/10/2020 23:35

@timeforanother1

My partner is very keen on another one. And giving my lb a whole sibling is very appealing.

My older kids were delivered after short sharp natural labour... I Was never given a reason for the rupture.
I was told that i could have another baby by the consultant who oversaw the repair to my uterus.

I am thinking that there will always be a hundred reasons why its not the right time but time is not on my side and its now or never....

If the stars aline and we are lucky to get a bfp then we will be even more truly blessed... xx

Idreamof2more · 03/11/2020 08:02

Hi ladies I am 40 and currently in the dreaded 2ww. Xx

timeforanother1 · 05/11/2020 09:08

How are you all doing?

I have started taking ttc vitamins and we actually had sex while in my fertile window last month just to try!
Will monitor correctly from this month, af due in 10 days but I don't for a moment think I've caught.

Forgot what this all feels like!
