Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

@soontobeamama hi, sorry for your losses. Have they said they won't do any more investigations or anything? It's so confusing when you don't know why isn't it! We are all in that geriatric catagory unfortunately lol

soontobeamama · 19/03/2021 18:31

@Marvellouslymadmum

Thank you x

They have said that we just need to keep trying. Due to my age, they took bloods etc after my second miscarriage. They indicated that IVF won't work as we don't have an issue getting pregnant, just staying pregnant. I don't know if there is anything more they can do for me (I would be too old for IVF on the NHS anyway and would need to go private).

I have noticed that a few ladies have said that asking GP's for progesterone might help, so I don't know if I should try that? I have been taking trying to conceive vitamins (and my husband has also been taking the ones for men) as well as magnesium, Vitamins C, D, B6, B12, etc, cut down on caffeine and alcohol, improved diet, upped exercise and try to relax more.

I really thought and prayed my last pregnancy was third time lucky, but it wasn't meant to be and I miscarried the day before I was scheduled to get my early scan x

Marvellouslymadmum · 19/03/2021 19:55

@soontobeamama I would definitely get your day 21 test if they haven't done it already to see what your progesterone levels are as they could definitely give you progesterone if needed to stay pregnant. Unexplained infertility is a nightmare! You could also try vitamin e, maca root and ubiquinol which are all good for fertility and egg health. Drink pomegranate juice up to ovulation time and eat fresh pineapple including the core through the fw. All things I'm also doing, I'm 42 in a week so not much different age wise and have had two mc and two cp. I would say if it's keeping the pregnancies going there are definitely other investigations they could do and progesterone is a definite option so try and talk to a gp again, maybe a different one at your surgery?

soontobeamama · 19/03/2021 21:04

@marvellouslymadmum - thanks so much for all the suggestions, some great tips that I've not heard of so will give them a go! I will definitely ask about progesterone as well. Wishing you lots of luck that it works for you too xx

Marvellouslymadmum · 19/03/2021 21:54

@soontobeamama thank you! Hopefully it'll work for you too!

soontobeamama · 22/03/2021 08:12

Morning!

Well, I've decided I need to be a bit more proactive as what I've been doing isn't working and time is of the essence!

I bought pomegranate juice as well as 2 pineapples yesterday following your suggestion @marvellouslymadmum! I've also ordered vitamin E and ubiquinol to add to the cocktail of supplements I'm already taking. I'm going to ring the doctor today to ask about progesterone as a few people have suggested their GP has prescribed it to them - I'm at the stage now where I'm willing to try anything that may help.

Marvellouslymadmum · 22/03/2021 09:58

@soontobeamama good plan! I believe they'll only prescribe progesterone once you are pregnant to try and help it stick as your levels need to be high to maintain the pregnancy, so what they would prob do it get you in for blood tests ASAP once you have a bfp and then prescribe if it's low

sabtom · 24/03/2021 17:33

Hi all! Just checking in to see how everyone's doing? It's 12/13dpo for me today, took a frer earlier- BFN ah well Sad Gunna try some fertility acupuncture in a couple of weeks. Acupuncturist suggested trying a session once a week to see how it goes, at the moment I think I'm willing to try anything now! Lol Hopefully we're gunna have enough saved up to go for IVF in the summer if nothing's happening between now and then Smile

Catconfusion · 24/03/2021 18:08

I’m sorry to hear that @sabtom I’ve heard great things about acupuncture though so fingers crossed it works.

All ok here thanks. I’m cd7 and got everything crossed I ovulate a bit earlier this time. I’ve just started Bud Fertility supplement which has Maca in. I’m hoping this might help regulate my cycles. Feeling a bit shell shocked as I had a really bad reaction to the Astra Zeneca Vaccine. I was ill for a few days. Hoping this hasn’t affected my cycle in any way.

Really hoping we get done bfps on this thread soon! Xx

October1979 · 24/03/2021 19:09

Hi everyone I'm 8dpo. Fingers crossed for us all xx

Catconfusion · 25/03/2021 16:39

Good luck too @soontobeamama I hope this is your month! Xx

sabtom · 25/03/2021 17:55

@Catconfusion @soontobeamama @October1979 good luck ladies 🤞🏻 Thanks

CD28 13/14dpo for me today, starting having that crampy feeling now so I expect AF by tomorrow. Since coming off the pill 2yrs ago, my cycles have been quite short (23-25 days) with a LP of about 11 days, and I would always spot a couple days before. But the past few cycles have been 27/28 and a LP of 13/14 days with no 'warning spotting'. Is this a good thing? Are my cycles becoming more regular? Or could it be pre-menopause showing its ugly face? (I'm 41) Maybe all those vitamins and supplements I'm taking are lengthening my cycles?

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 25/03/2021 17:59

Hi everyone,

Just checking in as AF due tomorrow so getting a BFP is back at the forefront of my mind.

I agree @Catconfusion - hoping we have some BFPs on this thread to celebrate together soon Smile

October1979 · 25/03/2021 18:33

Good Luck @Littlemiss40andfabulous @sabtom @Catconfusion @soontobeamama fingers and toes crossed. @sabtom I think it is a good thing your cycles have lengthened. I think it will be the vitamins xx

OP posts:
Marvellouslymadmum · 25/03/2021 18:59

@sabtom I would say the vitamins could be regulating your cycles, there's so many things we don't even think about until ttc and a regular cycle with good Lp would definitely be a benefit for you, I'm hoping they'll do the same for me

Good luck to all those testing soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I got my flashing smiley today so we bding for the next week ish lol

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 31/03/2021 19:09

AF arrived on Sunday so back to the beginning again. A bit demoralising.

Me and DH off on annual leave for 2 weeks after Easter so just the right time to relax and DTD lots 😂

How is everyone else doing?

XxX

October1979 · 31/03/2021 19:22

Hi @Littlemiss40andfabulous I'm with you Af arrived at the weekend so demoralised too! Just gearing up to start all over again too. It's really tough xx

OP posts:
Catconfusion · 31/03/2021 19:36

I’m so sorry to hear that @Littlemiss40andfabulous and @October1979 it must be so tough.

As for me, I started taking Bud fertility supplement and I got my positive opk on day 13 and I’m pretty sure I ovulated yesterday on day 14. This is huge for me as O is usually between day 20 and 40. The supplement seems to be doing something. We only just caught it as we dtd yesterday and my temperature rise was this morning. I might be wrong and it’s a failed ovulation but I’ve got my fingers crossed it’s actually happened. It would make this process so much easier if o happened earlier and was easier to predict.

Fingers crossed for us all this cycle! Xx

October1979 · 31/03/2021 21:10

That's great@Catconfusion delighted for you. Fingers crossed it's made the difference xx

That's great news @Catconfusion. Smile I hope this is the month for you xxx

Marvellouslymadmum · 01/04/2021 18:23

@Catconfusion that's great news! Definitely 🤞🏻 for you! My optimism has taken a nose dive as I was all excited to get my referral letter for more tests only to be told it'll be approximately 33 weeks before I get my first phone appointment!!

sabtom · 01/04/2021 18:32

Yey @Catconfusion fingers crossed for you! And to all you ladies trying again this month. CD 7 for me today, so will be going for the SMEP again starting tomorrow 🤞🏻

Have a great holiday weekend everyone Thanks

soontobeamama · 01/04/2021 22:47

Fingers crossed to all also on their two week wait like me!

@Marvellouslymadmum - that is a ridiculous length of time to wait - time we don't have! Can you do anything to push it forward, or are they just blaming covid? Here's hoping that there will be good news for you soon and you won't need the tests anyway!

@Catconfusion - sending good vibes your way xx
