@notyetamumbuttrying sorry to hear that af has arrived! It’s so depressing isn’t it, month after month of nothing happening! I generally try and stay positive, but I have been getting a bit anxious since I turned 39!
Are you planning to get ivf in the new year?
We’ve started looking into private clinics in case the nhs waiting list is really long.

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 08:11

@crazycatlady1981 yep definitely! Dh is reluctant as he still believes his sperm will improve but his count, motility and morphology were all low so it'll be hard pushed to get all 3 where they should be! He has a follow up call later today to discuss his bloods and testes scan so we'll know more later. He needs to book the second SA in too and then we'll be going private. We got referred to fertility bk in September and not been contacted yet so i dread to think how long it would take after the first call to apply for the funds and start treatment and I'm not really prepared to wait any longer. The money we have was towards our new house but what's the point in a house if we can't create a family, may as well stay in our one bed flat! Sorry, kinda rambling now but feeling very deflated with it all. Where are you based? Think we'll go with care London, they have great stats and reputation.

@notyetamumbuttrying I’m in south west, but not near any cities, so every clinic is generally an hour and half - 2hr drive from us, but I guess there will be plenty of options! Have contacted Nuffield for their prices. We are likely to have to use our money saved for our big wedding next year (which was supposed to happen this year, but just had a tiny one instead!) so will probably end up cancelling the big day. Not too bothered about it, but I don’t really want to have to tell all the guests why we are cancelling!! 😳
We also have the dilemma of my DH donating his sperm to a lesbian years ago (prior to us getting together!) which resulted in a baby, so I’m guessing that would mean we’re not eligible for free treatment anyway! 🤔

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 09:53

@crazycatlady1981 ooh interesting! I would imagine not either as he has fathered a child. Sorry to hear about the wedding, it's so shit! We were nearly 2020 and I couldn't imagine going through this. Well done on still getting married. Yeah will be a hard one to say why you aren't having the big day, I guess you could say you don't feel the need now and you want the money towards home improvements or something?

Morning all, feeling really down today after the frankly rubbish experience of setting an alarm for dtd this morning to get it in before DP's SA on Friday. Neither of us in the mood and some mechanical issues on his side, we got there in the end but it certainly wasn't romantic! So fed up with this journey sucking all the fun out of things!

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 11:16

@Motherofkittens28 been there before. I never thought having sex would be so laborious even tho a friend did tell me sex for ttc was shit, I didn't believe her. Egg on my face now! Good he's booked in for it tho, hope it goes well!

SS123456 · 25/11/2020 11:21

Completely feeling the same as you all, pressured ttc sex is rubbish. We are booked for a virtual open evening at a fertility clinic tomorrow evening before hopefully starting the ball rolling on some treatment. 15 month ttc is starting to take its toll now. All my tests so far have come back normal so I feel this could be an issue on OHs side. If it is though I'm going to be hard pushed to persuade him to change anything in his lifestyle. Thankfully he doesn't drink, smoke, or drink lots of caffeine but his diet is awful and is slightly over weight

Annny27 · 25/11/2020 11:31

@Motherofkittens28 @ss123456 I used to say to people "ooh enjoy all the ttc sex" 🤢🤢🤢

I said to my sister that at times I'd rather have a smear test than have ttc sex haha. Its sad really! But I have to laugh 😆

@notyetamumbuttrying sorry AF arrived esp after taking a test - thats gutting!

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 13:31

@SS123456 has he not had an SA yet then? I'm surprised if you've started tests. They usually do that alongside yours.
15 months is the pits isn't it! Good you're getting in with a clinic, I literally can't wait to get going!
Thanks @Annny27 how's things with you?
And you're right about the ttc sex! Was fun for the first couple months as I enjoyed doing it more, I'm far from enjoying it now tho 😂

OP posts:
crazycatlady1981 · 25/11/2020 13:54

Ttc sex is the worst! DH never had any issues until we were doing it to a schedule and now he loses interest really easily! Amazingly we managed SMEP a few times over the summer, but currently we’re lucky to dtd twice during my fw! 🙄
Have found early morning is best as his sex drive is higher then, but I hate it in the morning as I love my sleep! However I’m game for anything right now so I’ll take what I can get! 😂

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 13:56

@crazycatlady1981 same as me! I find it far easier to get him going in the morning lol so we just do that now on the important days and save real sex for the weekends where we can take our time and actually enjoy it.

SS123456 · 25/11/2020 15:52

@notyetamumbuttrying no I've had to do pretty much the whole lot privately (via Medichecks) as the nhs/gp have been so unhelpful. OHs SA will be private too. I figured it may be helpful to now just book a full package for investigation for us both with a clinic to cover all bases (it includes things like a hycosy etc for me)

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 16:05

@SS123456 that is rubbish! Sorry to hear this. Yeah it might be for the best now. X

OP posts:
SS123456 · 25/11/2020 16:55

@notyetamumbuttrying it's pretty frustrating but hopefully we'll get there in the end (before I'm too old!)

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 17:47

@SS123456 hope so!!
So we're just off the call with DH's urologist and she's going to refer us for ivf with icsi and she hopes we can kick off next month with a repeat SA, AMH for me and paperwork for the funding 🥳 I'm so pleased! I didn't think the call would go like that at all!

OP posts:
SS123456 · 25/11/2020 18:39

Oh amazing @notyetamumbuttrying that's great news! That's brilliant you are getting funding too 🙌🏻😁. I was quoted £13k 😩

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 21:00

Thank you @SS123456 and eek! Can't you get it on the nhs? I guess you don't want to have to deal with them again?!

OP posts:
crazycatlady1981 · 25/11/2020 21:51

@notyetamumbuttrying yay! That’s amazing news! So happy for you!

@SS123456 woah! £13k? Is that for several rounds of ivf or just one?

Had my first session of acupuncture today! It was so nice to take a break for a bit and just relax! Already looking forward to going back next week! 😀

notyetamumbuttrying · 25/11/2020 21:59

@crazycatlady1981 thank you darlin! I'm so chuffed tonight 😊
Ooh nice! Have always fancied it but never gone for it. Didn't think they were still operating during lockdown. I'm glad you enjoyed it ☺️

OP posts:
SS123456 · 25/11/2020 22:06

@notyetamumbuttrying @crazycatlady1981 I can't get help on the nhs unfortunately as I have an 8 year old from a previous relationship 😔. The £13k was a package that gave you a refund if you didn't have a baby within 2 years but there is no guarantee you'd be accepted for it. The initial fertility investigations are £700 but will hopefully be worth it 🤞🏻

crazycatlady1981 · 25/11/2020 22:08

@notyetamumbuttrying it’s classed as medical treatment, but they’re only allowed to do high needs and time sensitive cases right now! Fertility is classed as time sensitive thankfully so I was able to get treatment underway!

@SS123456 ah I see. Hope it's a success first time! When will you start do you think?
@crazycatlady1981 good to know! I'm gonna get some booked in once we kick off with ivf.
@Bcq33 welcome! Sorry you find yourself here. Not had experience of iui. I only know that if it's a sperm issue it's ivf with icsi as the answer.

OP posts:
Want2bparent · 25/11/2020 22:44

@notyetamumbuttrying thank you it’s just annoying any of us are here . have heard that about ivf with icsi alright but because husbands sperm came back ok thought iui would be a cheaper alternative guess will have to look into ivf. How’s cycle going for you ?

Narwhal88 · 25/11/2020 22:44

Wow this thread has been busy today!

@Annny27 someone I saw on Instagram was quoted £6k for the operation! So with only a 30% chance of improving things I think we will try IVF first.

@notyetamumbuttrying yay so pleased for you! We may have similar timescales then with our IVF depending on how long you have to wait?? Fingers crossed it's soon!

@crazycatlady1981 welcome 😊

@Bcq33 welcome! Sorry I don't know much about IUI, normally when there are sperm issues they do IVF with ICSI. Maybe his low count was a one off? Probably best if he gets it checked again?
I'm sure you still have a chance of success, how low was it?
