Anyone TTC after stopping the pill?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to mumsnet and a newbie to TTC.
My partner and I are TTC after deciding to postpone our wedding to end of summer 2021 (was originally May this year) due to covid. Our plan was to TTC after marriage but we’re so impatient and thought we would give it a go now.
I have been on the pill since I was 16 (I am now 27). Switched to implant in October 2017 then got it removed in January this year to go back onto the pill. Anyway, I stopped taking the pill on 13th May. However... I had gone straight onto the next pill pack to avoid the withdrawal bleed 7 days prior to this so hadn’t had a bleed for 5 weeks. Had a withdrawal bleed 16th-19th May. I have been checking CM, no EWCM that I’ve noticed yet. Have also been using ovulation test strips daily and all been negative so far.
I’m using the Clue app (always have done since switching to implant to track periods) and it’s saying that I’m currently in my fertility window with today being my most fertile day yet no signs or positive ovulation test. Could the extra 7 days of pill-taking messed up my cycle more than it would have done coming off the pill?

Anyone else TTC after stopping the pill? Or have conceived? What are your experiences? Any tips?

Hi @MintGreenLife my luteal phase was only 9 days! That was my first cycle after coming off the pill... Just finished af so bring on the baby dancing again. I will use opks this month to see when ovulation happens. According to my app ovulation should be in about a week but will be dtd from now every other day I think x

MintGreenLife · 25/06/2020 10:24

@SVC11 that doesn't sound to bad for first cycle off the pill :) I'm feeling positive about this cycle. Currently on CD9 and going to start testing with OPKs for tomorrow. Good luck for cycle 2 :D x

Flowerkm · 26/06/2020 18:30

Hey everyone :)

Ive been lurking and reading your posts and hope I can join. This feels like a good post for some advice regarding coming off the pill. Im quite far behind the rest of you but just wanted to find somewhere where i can get some advice when needed and what to expect when I come off :)

Im 27 and we have decided that we're ready to TTC. I am currently finishing my last week on the pill (been on for 9 years) will then have a withdraw bleed and then we plan to wait for my first natural AF off the pill and then TTC (just not giving my hopes up as know its unlikely to happen the first month)
I think I'll still track using OPK straight after the pill just to get an idea but totally aware it can take a while.

Lovey to hear all your stories and sending lots of luck Smile

Amethyst2502 · 26/06/2020 21:00

Hi @Flowerkm welcome! I'm currently on my first AF off the pill, first cycle lasted 31 days. I used OPK's to try and track ovulation and I did get a near enough peak so I assumed that I ovulated this month but obviously couldn't be sure without temping. My app predicted AF to come 29th/30th but it ended up coming 10 dpo yesterday which was a bit of a surprise but I suppose first cycle off pill anything can happen! Just glad it showed up so can get onto cycle 2 now!

Flowerkm · 26/06/2020 21:46

@Amethyst2502 thank you so much.

Thanks for sharing this, when did you start day 1 of your cycle? Im thinking of using the first day I start my withdrawal bleed?

That sounds really promising that you were getting near enough peaks, you're right though anything can happen and Im expecting some ups and downs so its nice to be able to share. Best of luck with cycle 2 Smile

Amethyst2502 · 27/06/2020 21:37

@Flowerkm Yep I used the first day of my withdrawal bleed as day 1.
Thank you good luck to you too! AF seems to have stopped now for me after only 2 days! Usually around 5 days before pill and on the pill but I guess my body is still getting used to a new pattern.

Flowerkm · 28/06/2020 07:11

@Amethyst2502 thank you, Ill do the same, only a few pills left now :)

That is a short AF but i guess coming off the pill our bodies are just trying to find its feet without all the hormones from the pill. Its good you can start a new cycle now.

Best of luck Smile

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 19:46

Any nice news anyone?

MintGreenLife · 27/07/2020 20:42

@SVC11 hey ☺️ I'm CD41 or something along those lines. It's my third cycle off the pill and longest so far. I'm undecided because of slightly odd temps, but possibly ovulated 6 days ago. Don't think I was ovulating in my first two cycles in hindsight. How are you getting on? X

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:09

@MintGreenLife I'm supposed to ovulate today but no ewcm. I guess I'll see if my bbt goes up... I haven't measured it before so who knows... First month for everything... Deffo got pain on my side like last month but who knows.

Flowerkm · 27/07/2020 21:15

@SVC11 hey ☺️ still on my first cycle off the pill, my first AF is due Sunday and I ovulated on CD13 which i was surprised about as expected a delay so will just see what AF brings and how next cycle goes. How are you?

Nazz10 · 27/07/2020 21:42

@SVC11 I'm currently on cd23, 6dpo in cycle 3 at the moment. Cycle 2 had a 7-8 day luteal phase. Spotting before and after AF so all in all bleeding for 9 days. Spoke with GP and having bloods on Friday (also due to fatigue and low mood). This cycle I have been taking B6 in addition to seven seas trying for a baby. Will know by tomorrow if it's made a difference as was cd24 when I started spotting last cycle. Fingers crossed I don't.
How are you getting on?

@MintGreenLife ugh I feel frustrated for you ☹️ I have been temping this cycle for the first time. I started off good, setting my alarms for the same time as I wake up for work but then that slowly phased out and just took my temp when I woke up (fully aware that they would not give me accurate results - don't know why I done it). So I've used the temp adjuster to try and match my temps to the same times and got a nice-ish chart (I think). I've been using 3 different apps to compare the difference in the charts. I doubt the temp adjuster is reliable as everyone is different but thought I'd just give it a go anyway 🤦🏽‍♀️

@SVC11 sorry, posted this after I saw yours. It's my first cycle tracking BBT too. How are you finding it? I also get pain when I ovulate. First cycle felt nothing. Second cycle had very strong pains on the left side and this cycle had very strong pains on my right side. Last cycle I couldn't move off the couch for a few hours and it worried me a little bit but this cycle wasn't as bad

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:50

@Nazz10 I've been taking a small increase in b6 too this month so will see if it affects ovulation... I'm hoping not... And it just extends my lp. Hubbys gone away now so hoping ovulation isn't delayed... Minefieellldd

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:51

@Nazz10 yeah sometimes it makes me double over.... Surely this means we are ovulating?

MintGreenLife · 27/07/2020 21:57

@Nazz10 it's been pretty annoying but never mind, just hoping it doesn't take too long to improve! I'm not brilliant in terms of the times I temp as I usually end up getting up once or twice in the night. I set an alarm for 5.30 to take my temp and then if I wake up earlier I just do it then, so can be anywhere between 3ish and 5.30am.

Hope your luteal phase is better this time. That's great you're getting bloods done! I'm surprised they are happy to do them so soon after stopping the pill. Are they looking specifically at hormone levels for you, or other things because of how you've been feeling? X

Nazz10 · 28/07/2020 16:25

@SVC11 yes hopefully means we're ovulating. I got a temp rise the day after albeit a small one but my app identified it as ovulation so I'm going with that

@MintGreenLife no they're not looking at hormone levels. At least I don't think so anyway. She was concerned with the spotting before and after AF and I had slight cramps after my last day of spotting so she made me do a pregnancy test which I knew was going to be negative but just to rule out an ectopic. She said she wanted to check my full blood count and vitamin levels to see if there is any deficiencies there that would explain the fatigue. But she also wants me to have a smear test (which is due anyway) and an ultrasound 😳 hopefully everything will be ok though

Well I know it's only half way through the day but I haven't had any spotting today which I had last cycle so fingers crossed it stays that way. But I did have a little bit of a drop in temp this morning although it's still above cover line

OP posts:
SVC11 · 28/07/2020 16:46

Ah cool, yeah I had a small temp rise this morning, let's just see if it goes up again or stays up. Really hoping this month is the month. No idea what I'm doing wrong if not, although I know chances are slim no matter what x

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 08:22

Ladies, so I'm 9dpo. No spotting whatsoever (had it from 7dpo last cycle) so thought vitamin b6 must be working well. But decided to do an IC this morning and saw the faintest line and they have never done that before. They have always been stark white. So did an FRER and think I have a faint line on that too! But can't be too sure and they are real squinters!

SVC11 · 30/07/2020 08:59

Ahhh @Nazz10 that's so exciting keep testing and keep us updated? Will you leave it for a couple days to test again? I deffo had my bbt spike a couple days ago and 2 days later its still HUGH... Every morning I'm gonna be praying for that high temp now lol. X

SVC11 · 30/07/2020 09:01

Still high that was supposed to say 🙄

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 09:07

@SVC11 I will probably test again either tomorrow or Friday because I'm not sure if the lines have colour. I'm not even sure if the lines are even there 😂 OH saw the line on the IC but not the FRER. I'll attach a picture to see what you think. Don't worry, if you think it's a BFN I can take it as I'm in denial anyway.

That's good about your temps! Fingers crossed they stay high for you! I had a dip 2 days ago (on 7dpo) and thought oh god, here comes AF way too soon again. But then the next day went straight back up. My temps have been a little up and down but not dropped below cover line (yet)

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 09:10

Feel quite silly posting these actually. You probably can't even see it on either of them. I've convinced myself they're not BFPs at this point

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking for a bit and thought it was time to join. After some great advice from @MintGreenLife and others about when to go off the pill if wanting to TTC in September/ October, I went off the pill on the 12th of July. Since then, no breakthrough bleed or anything but the last 14 days I’ve had super bad PMS, sore nipples, cramps, lower back pain etc. Waiting for AF. I’ve been using Ovia. I was wondering, do you think it would help with Ovia’s predictions if I recorded the day I stopped the pill as a period day, making it cycle day 1? Even though I didn’t get any breakthrough bleeding? Not really sure what my body’s going to do next but this thread has taught me to expect the unexpected when going off the pill that’s for sure! I hope my pms fades soon!

I had EWCM and felt very frisky two days after going off the pill so I may have ovulated but my tests hadn’t arrived yet at that point so I can’t be sure. Not sure if that would make my cycle shorter than it would be if I marked the day I went off the pill as period day 1. I guess it’s probably pointless trying to work out what to put down until I get an actual period, but I’m such a planner that I just can’t help myself!

@Nazz10 that’s so exciting! Fingers crossed for you!
