Anyone TTC after stopping the pill?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to mumsnet and a newbie to TTC.
My partner and I are TTC after deciding to postpone our wedding to end of summer 2021 (was originally May this year) due to covid. Our plan was to TTC after marriage but we’re so impatient and thought we would give it a go now.
I have been on the pill since I was 16 (I am now 27). Switched to implant in October 2017 then got it removed in January this year to go back onto the pill. Anyway, I stopped taking the pill on 13th May. However... I had gone straight onto the next pill pack to avoid the withdrawal bleed 7 days prior to this so hadn’t had a bleed for 5 weeks. Had a withdrawal bleed 16th-19th May. I have been checking CM, no EWCM that I’ve noticed yet. Have also been using ovulation test strips daily and all been negative so far.
I’m using the Clue app (always have done since switching to implant to track periods) and it’s saying that I’m currently in my fertility window with today being my most fertile day yet no signs or positive ovulation test. Could the extra 7 days of pill-taking messed up my cycle more than it would have done coming off the pill?

Anyone else TTC after stopping the pill? Or have conceived? What are your experiences? Any tips?

@Curiosity101 that is a very good point about the sickness/exhaustion side of it! I didn’t even think of that. I think we will TTC for a few months and if not successful then use non-hormonal birth control to allow my body time to get back into a natural cycle rather than going back onto the pill. Then start trying again a month or two before the wedding.

@TheDaydreamBelievers that’s reassuring that you eventually got a positive OPK albeit very late.

Can I just ask.. what time of the day is everyone doing an OPK?

@SVC11 Of course you can! Welcome!
I have no idea about LH increasing. I’m a complete newbie to this TTC business 😂 still learning everyday. I got a very faint line about a week ago and obviously that’s a negative but nothing since then.

We’re also DTD pretty much every other day but I’m a nurse and work long shifts so sometimes it’s difficult to stay on track with me being exhausted by the end of my 2nd shift (if I have more than 2 shifts in a row).

@Nazz10 You should use OPKs at roughly the same time every day but it doesn't matter exactly what time that is. Once you start seeing a rise then you should test twice a day (ideally roughly 12 hours apart) to give you the best chance of spotting your peak.

Im currently pregnant with my first. Finished my pill around the end of January. Had a bleed a week or 2 afterwards. I then had a 2 week break them another period. After than we tried conceiving. I used Flo and my Fitbit app to roughly track my ovulation dates and put in the app both times i had bled. We were going to try on our Honeymoon in May but obviously got cancelled so brought it forward. Didn't expect to get pregnant so quick and was just going to see what happen. Took Folic Acid before getting pregnant and started taking pregnacare after my first midwife appointment.

Nazz10 · 08/06/2020 16:58

@Curiosity101 thank you! I'll just continue to do them daily and see what happens.

@danidella aww congratulations!! How far are you into your pregnancy?

@Nazz10 thank you. Im 14+3, due in December.

You mentioned that you were taking multivitamins which is fine as long as they don't contain Vitamin A as that is harmful to the baby. But taking folic acid and vitamin D now is best. I take Pregnacare Plus as i don't eat enough fish to get Omega 3. I forgot to say, don't put too much pressure on yourself (not saying you are) as that can sometimes affect getting pregnant. Happened to a colleague of mine.

Nazz10 · 08/06/2020 18:00

@danidella aww a December baby 😍 my favourite month!
Yeah I was a bit sceptical about taking folic acid and a multi vitamin at the same time which is why I went for pregnacare conception after reading it on another thread. So did you just take folic acid and vitamin D also? I'm not sure what to do now as on another thread some people were recommending pregnacare but now a couple on this thread have said it can lengthen your cycle. Pregnacare states on their site that it doesn't affect your cycle but I just don't know what to do for the best. I'm pretty sure I need a multivitamin due to the long shifts at work. Sometimes not getting a break or when I do get a break not having the time to eat the right foods so I worry that I could be deficient in something

@Nazz10 i took pregnacare once i found out i was pregnant. I had been taking multivitamins before i was pregnant but stopped once i found out about the Vitamin A and just took the folic acid. Once i had my first midwife appointment she told me to start taking vitamin D. I wanted to take pregancy vitamins before i was pregnant but thought it was best to just take the folic acid. Its really hard to find anything without Vitamin A. Maybe try just the folic acid and vitamin D for now then once you are pregnant start taking the pregnacare?

Nazz10 · 08/06/2020 18:43

@danidella I have the pregnacare conception ones. They're for both partners to take. Supposed to help with fertility so they are designed to be taken while TTC. Once pregnant I would obviously switch to the original pregnacare. I'll attach a picture to show you which ones I have.
What dose of vitamin D were you recommended to take?

@Nazz10 ah i see. Not sure if they lengthen your cycle or not. I didn't take them tbh i didn't realise you could get conception ones 😂. Don't know how i didn't notice them online. Our supermarkets here have some limited stock. I was recommened to taje just ordinary vitamin D off the shelf, about 10micro grams.

After 2 cycles of Depo provera I decided to stop, to try for a baby. My last shot was in August 2019, so it's been 10 months since my last shot.
I had my first shot of depo in June of 2019, right after a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I was quite upset at the time and thought I may not want to try for a baby again for a few months. I told my doctor this and somehow I was given the depo shot (biggest mistake ever) So I haven't had a period ever since April 2019.
I am 30 years old now, and I really want a baby. The fact that I don't even have a period to begin my journey is so upsetting.
I have been to a seperate doctor ever since, who tried to jump start my period with provera. 10mg a day for 5 day...it didn't work. Then we tried combine hormonal therapy estrogen (Progynova) and progesterone (Primolut N)...that didn't work either.
It looks like my doctor doesn't know what to do next. All my tests have come back with normal results. I feel desperate and anxious all the time. I feel like I did this to myself by not paying enough attention and doing the research when my former doctor suggested Depo provera. I don't even know if I can clasify myself as TCC given that I don't even have a period to begin with.

Nazz10 · 09/06/2020 09:30

@Itsoko I'm so sorry to hear that you've been having problems since having the depo injection. I personally don't have any experience with this so I'm probably really useless in giving information. However, my sister-in-law was on the depo injection for a few years after a miscarriage. She stopped having it and then I think it was roughly 12-18 months later when she eventually conceived so from the sounds of it, it can take a while.

I have just done a quick search online and it says that it can take up to 18 months for your periods to come back again. I really feel for you and it must be so disheartening waiting so long but it sounds like there's still a bit of time left for it to get out of your system.

@Nazz10

Thank you for responding. I think, I will just postpone TTC to 2021 for the sake of my own sanity. On the bright side, I am 10 months post my last injection, so maybe I am halfway there already. :-)

Morning ladies. Still no positive OPK. I had a very sharp on/off pain in my left side at the bottom yesterday morning and was convinced it was ovulation pains. I was at work so couldn't do an OPK until I got home at 7pm but was negative. Ho hum. CD 26 today. Also had a numbing ache at the top of both of my legs for most of the day. Not sure if this has anything to do with anything or not. Just seemed a bit random.
I'm just wondering if anyone does BBT? I don't know much about it tbh but read a few people are doing it

Hi everyone,
Currently on CD19 been doing opk's all week that were all negative but finally had a bit of what looked like ewcm last night and this morning and just did an opk and got a faint positive on it Smileso is the thing to do now test again later today and tomorrow to detect the peak?

SVC11 · 12/06/2020 22:55

@Amethyst2502 that's what I did and they kept getting darker. I recorded them on an app and it told me when my peak was. In my TWW now!

Amethyst2502 · 13/06/2020 16:19

@svc11 how exciting hope it goes quickly for you!

I did a couple more opk's yesterday and today and the line hasn't gotten any darker if anything it has become fainter. Also ewcm seems to have gone and has become creamier. Have I ovulated and missed it or have I not ov'd at all!? Finding it all so confusing!

NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy · 16/06/2020 12:40

Hello! Hoping someone can offer some advice having come off the pill themselves.

I came off the pill 22/05 so still early days. I had been on it for about a year but now decided to try for baby #2. Had withdrawal bleed as usual after i ended the packet and then cramps on the left hand side after 2 weeks, which i thought may have been ovulation, but didnt take an OPK... this followed light spotting a week later (3 weeks after ended the pill)... ever since i have had cramps and bloating. Cramps are mild, but the bloating.... it is insane! Literally feel about 3 months pregnant!!!

I never had this before the pill. Have others had similar issues?!? I know bloating can happen but 5+ days?!?

I was hoping i could be pregnant but think it could be too early to tell, and nipples arent given me any signs of that, so probably wishful thinking.

Hope the AF would just get on and come so I can concentrate on the next cycle! I know i need to be patient but being on furlough, with partner working upstairs all day.. is making that a bit difficult! x

SVC11 · 16/06/2020 13:15

When is AF due @NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy? So exciting for baby no 2. Good luck! @Amethyst2502 How's it going are you officially in your TWW? When do you think you will test?

mummy2myJJ · 16/06/2020 13:38

Hi everyone,
After cancelling my August wedding due to corona we have decided to TTC baby number 2. I've been on the mini pill for 2 years and finished taking them 6th June.
I've not had a withdrawal bleed which apparently can be common on that pill so I'm not too concerned. I conceived my son very quickly so hoping we are just as lucky this time. Had cramps from Friday-Sunday so god knows what that means! Hoping we all get good news soon🤞🏼 x

NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy · 16/06/2020 13:46

@SVC11 not exactly sure when AF will come as have one since coming off thw pill yet. My cycle used to be 29 days so if my body got back to normal straight away, then i should be due on 20th but who knows?!? Guessing you are in similar boat? How are you feeling?

When i have come off the pill in the past, i just got my normal rhythm and PMT symptoms again, so it feels very different right now.

NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy · 16/06/2020 13:50

@mummy2myJJ welcome and good luck! I conceived my son very early (first attempt Blush) last time too so got very lucky! Are you going to start using any OPKs or just wait until first AF comes to start trying to track things? (If at all!)

SVC11 · 16/06/2020 14:05

@NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy yes same position not at all sure when I'm due af. I'm going to test on Sunday and then a few days later to see if I pick anything up... If not I guess wait for af to show up. Hoping I'm as lucky as you and weve made it stuck on the first try but maybe that's just wishful thinking. @mummy2myJJ good luck!
