Anyone TTC after stopping the pill?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to mumsnet and a newbie to TTC.
My partner and I are TTC after deciding to postpone our wedding to end of summer 2021 (was originally May this year) due to covid. Our plan was to TTC after marriage but we’re so impatient and thought we would give it a go now.
I have been on the pill since I was 16 (I am now 27). Switched to implant in October 2017 then got it removed in January this year to go back onto the pill. Anyway, I stopped taking the pill on 13th May. However... I had gone straight onto the next pill pack to avoid the withdrawal bleed 7 days prior to this so hadn’t had a bleed for 5 weeks. Had a withdrawal bleed 16th-19th May. I have been checking CM, no EWCM that I’ve noticed yet. Have also been using ovulation test strips daily and all been negative so far.
I’m using the Clue app (always have done since switching to implant to track periods) and it’s saying that I’m currently in my fertility window with today being my most fertile day yet no signs or positive ovulation test. Could the extra 7 days of pill-taking messed up my cycle more than it would have done coming off the pill?

Anyone else TTC after stopping the pill? Or have conceived? What are your experiences? Any tips?

@NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy I think I'm going to wait and see how the next 2/3 months go, DTD every other day and try to get my cycle back on track and then if nothing happens will start OPKing... what about you?x

mummy2myJJ · 16/06/2020 14:23

@SVC11 thank you, you too! Hope we'll all be sharing our BFPs soon!!!🤞🏼x

Nazz10 · 16/06/2020 16:42

@NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy welcome! I came off the pill on 13th May. I had some bloating the week before my first AF. At the time, I believed I had caught first time as I had other signs too but clearly just PMS.

My first cycle lasted 27 days which I was really happy about but also a little saddened but it meant that we could start again on cycle 2. We're TTC baby #1 so completely new to it all. Here's hoping we all get BFPs soon 🤞🏼

What are your plans? Are you doing OPKs? DTD every other day? I've heard about SMEP but not entirely sure how that works. I'm currently on CD5. AF should be gone by tomorrow 😃

@mummy2myJJ very similar situation here. We were due to get married 15th May. Changed it to August 2020 then again to August 2021 just to be sure. So then we decided TTC now since we would have been doing that anyway after the original wedding date and we have enough time to give it a shot. Should be finishing first AF tomorrow and I don't feel like I have a plan on what's best to do to increase our chances. I keep reading things and the more I read the more I get confused

@SVC11 Ooh how exciting! I troll on the line eyes threads and then get a sense of elation when I see a line 😂 when did you eventually get your positive OPK?

OP posts:
SVC11 · 16/06/2020 17:10

@Nazz10 I got my positive opk on the 8th which was only 14 days after starting my withdrawal bleed, so I have assumed I ovulated on the 9th. So I am a week into my TWW. Sunday will be 12 dpo which I know is quite early to test, but it's fathers day and I have a FRER here so I thought why not. If not I guess AF will be due around the 23rd or 24th (if my cycle is 28 days, but not really sure as just come off the pill) x

mummy2myJJ · 16/06/2020 17:12

@Nazz10 how strange! We were supposed to get married in May in Florida which we cancelled in March and luckily my other half is manager in a lovely country hotel so we booked a last minute wedding there for August thinking everything will be normal.. clearly not Sad
As it's your first maybe just let nature take its course, DTD every other day, eat well etc for a couple of months...thing with OPKing etc it can become so obsessive but each to their own!
So much conflicting advice everywhere I look so god knows who's doing the right thing- haha x

Nazz10 · 16/06/2020 17:14

@SVC11 oh that's good. Did you OPK everyday? AF is just about finished and I didn't get any positives last cycle (first one after stopping the pill) so I think I'm just going to do them daily and see what happens.
Aww how nice would that be if you got a positive on Father's Day! 😍 good luck keep us posted!!

Yeah I opkd every day and then once they started getting darker I did it twice a day at like midday and then 4pm to make sure I caught the surge. I logged them all on an app called premom and it records it and tells you when your peak is so I found that helpful. Yeah it would be nice to get a positive although I do worry about testing early, I don't want to know about a chemical pregnancy and would rather wait for a definitive yes or no, but I think just because its such a nice date I have to go for it. It would be amazing to catch it the first month though Im not holding out too much hope. Fingers crossed for everyone this month!

Nazz10 · 16/06/2020 17:20

@mummy2myJJ wow that's weird 😂 we cancelled our original date in March too. About a week before lockdown. How do you feel about the August wedding? Are you still going to go ahead if it's reduced numbers?

Yeah I think you're right. So much goes through my head though and then I start worrying. Especially with my first cycle I didn't get a positive OPK so I think we will DTD every other day but would just give me peace of mind if I got one positive OPK. Once I get a positive OPK I think I'll stop doing it. I just want to know I'm actually ovulating.
I agree with you. Sooo much conflicting info

@Nazz10 we've cancelled the August wedding now due to reduced numbers and I didn't want to look back on my wedding photos and everyone is in face masks lol.
Yeah I totally get that, peace of mind that your body is working! Fingers crossed this month is the month xx

Nazz10 · 16/06/2020 17:26

@SVC11 ahh thanks for that! I'll have a look at it and give it a go.

Fingers crossed for you x

@mummy2myJJ 😢 such a sh**ty situation isn't it. Our big days will come eventually.

Yes fingers crossed for us all x

@Nazz10 your first cycle sounds similar to mine... highly likely the symptoms i am getting are PMT related... though not like anything i experienced before taking the pill. Ah well. Will wait until next week and if AF hasnt showed up and i am still feeling stuff perhaps take a test on monday.

@mummy2myJJ yet to invest in any OPKs, but will probably give them a go after ive had my first AF as dont trust my ability to sense when i am ovulating. Ive read about SMEP but dont think we will go down that route (yet at least). Trying hard not to get stressed out about it to early on but for some reason feel so much more anxious than #1. Perhaps as i am almost 3 yrs older?!?

NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy · 16/06/2020 19:38

I was due to go to a few weddings this summer... feel so sorry for all those who had to cancel the big day. But.... always thought there is something cute about having your child at your wedding... so fingers crossed ladies! x

Amethyst2502 · 17/06/2020 14:09

@svc11 I think I'm in tww now! My opk's kept getting stronger and then had what looked like a peak on Sunday afternoon and then since then they immediately started getting fainter. We only dtd the deed Saturday and Sunday night but just going to wait it out now and see if AF turns up at some point but hopefully she doesn't!

When are you due to test?

SVC11 · 17/06/2020 14:40

@Amethyst2502 exciting! Due to test on the 23rd...thats 14 days after I think I ovulated after using opks. I don't really know how long my cycle is as I haven't had a proper period since being on the pill though. I might do a Frer on fathers day... I don't think I would any other month but it would be such a nice day to find out, or at least get an inkling as to what is happening. I will test on the 23rd/24th anyway and then wait for af to turn up if negative this time.

Nazz10 · 19/06/2020 19:59

Hi ladies,
How are we all doing? Where are you all up to in your cycles?
I'm on CD8. Did an OPK after work and got a line (although not positive) but definitely in the right direction since last cycle I got nothing whatsoever.
Hope you're all well!

Hi @Nazz10 I had af come yesterday unexpectedly... But I guess its good as I have a start to my more accurate cycle. This is my first af off the pill. Once I stop il start opks again but I'm gonna be dtd every other day I think... Woo woo! Good luck on your increasing opk! Seems I'm one week behind you! X

Nazz10 · 19/06/2020 21:13

@SVC11 sorry about AF coming but at least you can start fresh again this cycle. How long was your first cycle then? Mine was 27 days. This is my first cycle after my first natural AF off the pill. Like you, we will be DTD every other day and then everyday once I get a positive OPK. Fingers crossed it works

SVC11 · 19/06/2020 21:50

@Nazz10 exactly 28 days since I stopped the pill... So does that mean my cycle is 28 days? Its 25 days since I started my withdrawal bleed. I guess it might keep changing if its so soon since stopping the pill.

Nazz10 · 19/06/2020 22:19

@SVC11 it starts from the first day of your bleed so 25 days for you which is normal. It's a good sign that you got AF around that time. I've read on other threads that people had been waiting 3 months for AF. I think I'd go crazy

SVC11 · 19/06/2020 23:24

I know! I cldnt believe I had an LH surge so early and now af so I do feel lucky and hoping I settle i to an ish normal cycle pretty quick. Thanks for ur help

NotVeryGoodAtPregnancy · 20/06/2020 06:34

Hey @Nazz10 @SVC11 i was totally unprepared for it taking a while for things to get back to normal after the pill. Feel very silly! Despite some disappointment you probably both felt when AF showed up, it is a positive sign that your bodies have adjusted quickly, with minimal changes to your normal cycle. Fingers-crossed you get a BFP in cycle #2 and enjoying trying!

I fear i may be one of those that takes ages to get back on track asI’m still waiting for my first AF to show up. Had lots of symptoms for 5 days but they have totally vanished now. I’m only 31 days post withdrawal bleed (normal for me was 29 day cycle) but have already started to stress about it (I know, not going to help matters!!!). Did do a test but BFN so think ill just wait for AF to show up before testing with OPKs etc, as it will be unlikely i am ovulating now. We are DTD twice a week in the meantime...

MintGreenLife · 20/06/2020 09:26

Morning ☺️ How's everyone getting on?

I joined in on this thread at the start, but haven't posted for a while. I'm currently on cycle three after stopping the pill, and second cycle TTC. I tracked the last cycle and it was all over the place. I'm using OPKs and charting my temp - in totally I had three LH surges, starting on CD20 and finally got a positive on CD33. According to my BBT it looks like I ovulated on CD34, but then I got AF four days later!! So that means I had a luteal phase of 3 days 😩

I've read two books about TTC and both said a short luteal phase in the first cycle or two coming off the pill is quite common, but I didn't expect it to be that short! Just wondering if anyone else has had a sinilae thing? AF is also pretty light too, although seems slightly heavier this time than last time x
