Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

Hi @kimchimama, just wanted to say welcome, I’m very new to TTC as well, I only just stopped taking the pill. You sound like you’re getting everything you need sorted. Good luck x

Hi girls and happy Sunday and welcome to all the new girls 👋🏻

Just wondering if anyone who has recently come off the mini pill (and had no periods) is experiencing quite light AF?

Last months was only really 1 day medium flow followed by a 2 days light, which I put down to the fact it was withdrawal but this months also seems pretty light. I can't remember much about my cycle before I was on the pill but I don't think it was so light.

Thanks 😊

M4v3r1ck · 24/05/2020 11:59

@Peach1204 - thank you! 🤞🏻 We went on our first cruise (big family one) a couple of years ago and loved it! 😃

@SaraVB oh no, I'm sorry re: not getting to see your parents! I hope you get to see them soon! 😘

@Daffodil21 interesting article - thank you! 😃

Good luck @kimchimama! 😃 Yeah I had no idea re: whole cervical mucus changes either, but it seems to be a reliable way of tracking things!

SK2970 · 24/05/2020 12:15

@HJen22 mine has been like that! I think I used to have about 5 days but my last one was only about 3 days in total! Expect it’s body adjusting but doesn’t help with predicting cycle haha

Welcome newbies! Smile

I feel a bit different this morning but can’t describe it!! I’m 7dpo so 7 days to go before AF due!! Maybe this is the turning point into crazy lady, I even considered doing a test but wayy too early!!

LennyAndToots · 24/05/2020 12:22

@SK2970 how early do you think would be OK to take a test? I know we should all really wait to see whether AF arrives or not, but do you reckon 10dpo may be an ok ish day to take an early test? This may send us all crazy but hey ho!

SK2970 · 24/05/2020 12:30

@LennyAndToots I don’t know, head says a few days can’t make a difference but bet it does ha! I read the instructions on the tests that I have and it states from day 1 of missing AF but I do think there is some tests out there that can test up to 6 days earlier! Think will drive us crazy either way!
Head is also saying that it’s first go and it would be unlikely!

LennyAndToots · 24/05/2020 12:38

@SK2970 yeah it's a 20% chance each cycle so at least there is hope for one in five of us! I'm not getting my hopes up for the first time but at least we have all been doing our research which always helps?

There are a lot of posts on here with very dull lines taken before AF so we wouldn't be the only crazies if we took a test earlier!

Yeah see if you can look into the clear blue early tests? Think they may be the only early detectors but I haven't looked into that yet really...

SK2970 · 24/05/2020 12:43

@LennyAndToots we definitely wouldn’t be the only ones if did test early!! A faint line would drive me crazy, same if there was no line.. it’s too much pressure!! Haha 😂
Thankfully I have a busy job which should keep my mind occupied for the week...I hope!! It’s just weird the possibility of being pregnant but not knowing!!
It’s the clear blue early ones that I saw but as early into the journey, I went with the cheaper clear blue ones for now.

M4v3r1ck · 24/05/2020 12:45

Being really dumb, ladies, but that's AF here! Bang on schedule even after coil removal on Friday, so is this me officially on and starting Cycle #1? 🤔 Is that when you count the cycle from? Tracker is now saying it's now 9 days until "fertile window"...

I've seen some groups post Dpo; is that days post-ovulation?

Sorry for the daft questions!

HJen22 · 24/05/2020 12:48

@SK2970 ah thank you, I'm not the only one then! No complaints of 3 days but yeah I think mine were probably around 5 days before. I had really bad cramps and overall feeling rubbish the first day but have felt much better since!

I hope the next 7 days go fast for you! I was the same the week before AF, tempted to take a test and if I had I would have tried to get the clear blue as I read they can detect early.

notyetamumbuttrying · 24/05/2020 12:59

Yeah you're on cd1 @M4v3r1ck and dpo is correct. Once you're there you'll then be in tww (two week wait) 1dpo. Your fertile window is the days leading up to ovulation where you can still conceive as sperm can survive for 5 days. Hope that helps! Smile

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 13:03

@Peach1204 - It is indeed, my fertile period is estimated from 28th to 3rd June.

I have the early 3 pack clear blue test and I also have early response test x2 box, and a box of cheap ones which I brought awhile back when on a good sale.

I also brought a load of pregnancare while they were on sale too I just love a bargain. However knowing I have them in is going to make it hard not to be tempted to use them early.

notyetamumbuttrying · 24/05/2020 13:23

@Summertime1992 you can start using pregnacare 3 months prior ttc so defo start taking them now if you're trying!

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 13:53

@notyetamumbuttrying I have been taking it since February, jut got plenty to see me through the whole journey as I read it is best to take throughout the whole of pregnancy :).

Peach1204 · 24/05/2020 14:00

@Summertime1992 I've finished AF today and according to Flo app my fertile window is 25th May - 3rd June with ovulation on 30th. Could this be incorrect? I'm just comparing to you. It's different on Premom which I have just downloaded and that says 3rd June ovulation. Tempted to buy some strips now to monitor it more closely but also just going to go in all guns blazing and hope for the best!xxx

Daffodil21 · 24/05/2020 14:02

@Summertime1992 pregnecare do another type for when you're pregnant. You have to take 3 pills per day (but I think that's the all signing all dancing one, I'm sure there are multiple types!). They do say you can use the pre-conception ones for a month or so after you conceive though

Mamainmaking1 · 24/05/2020 14:08

Hi guys hope you don't mind me joining in. I am in the middle of my first cycle of TTC baby #1. AF due on the 30th/31st of May. Just taking folic acid supplements ATM, will have to get pregna care or seven seas ordered up Smile

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 14:13

@Peach1204 Mine is blue from 28th to the 3rd with my ovulation day circled on 2nd May (though I think I ovulate later than that from previous periods of looking at cervical mucus) am just going to DTD every other day for the entire month and hope for the best.

@Daffodil21I have had a look at them all, currently just taking the general pregnancare original which can be used pre and throughout pregnancy, there is not a huge difference in ingredients but the price is a lot higher.

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 14:15

@Mamainmaking1Welcome, and best of luck not long now until you can test :).

Daffodil21 · 24/05/2020 14:17

@Summertime1992 oh really? I might look at switching then. I took the all singing all dancing ones when I was pregnant (ended in MC) and it did feel like I was almost taking too many things if that makes sense! I'm hoping one day I may make it to the end of the bloody packet though!!

M4v3r1ck · 24/05/2020 14:21

@notyetamumbuttrying fab, thank you! 😘

Welcome @Mamainmaking1! 😃

Mamainmaking1 · 24/05/2020 14:23

@Summertime1992 thank you. I have the triple pack of clear blue and so tempted to take one tomorrow which would be approx 5 days before AF due. I have very short (24 day cycles) but I don't feel like I will have left it long enough.

@Daffodil21 I was taking lots of suppliments also including the well woman (same maker of pregnacare) which was two tablets up until a few months ago and I felt my body was just consuming too much. Hence why I'm not even keen on starting on pregnacare or seven seas but I don't want to be deficient in anything either so it's such a hard one.

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 14:28

@Daffodil21Yer some have higher amount of different ingredients in, but they all have the things recommended to take at the grams recommended and are only about £4 a box compared to the nearly £20 for the specific ones.

I find that I clearly do not need all that is in a pregnancare as my urine in bright yellow which is a sign my body is getting rid of a lot of unneeded vitamins anyway.

Sorry to hear about your MC, best of luck for this month :).

Summertime1992 · 24/05/2020 14:30

@Mamainmaking1I would maybe wait a couple more days, as with a shorter cycle it will be more likely to get an early false negative as HCG wont have had enough time to rise, best of luck :).

Rocky89 · 24/05/2020 16:51

@MintGreenLife just make sure your dtd atleast every other day then you won't miss it. My opk said to do it in the afternoon but that depends on how much you drink, I stuck to doing mine first thing in the morning and got a positive, I didn't bother in the afternoon as I was drinking loads of water which id read would impact the result as I also have a bladder the size of a toddlers so I wouldn't have been able to hold it!

Big word of warning ladies, DO NOT be tempted to test early! I'm 12dpo and as much as I said on here a few days ago I wasn't going to test, well I found myself in the poundshop and bought tests and tested today, negative. What a bummer. Totally not worth it, I'd got myself all geared up in a positive mindset and now I've crashed, going to wait it out now until AF is actually due on Thursday 😕
