TTC after ectopic pregnancy

1000 replies

Mumlili9 · 25/02/2020 03:22

Hello I'm hoping to chat with other ladies ttc after ectopic pregnancy with tubal removal. I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and lost my left tube. I don't know anyone who has been through this so I've no one to talk to about this. I would love this tread to become a kind of support group where we can support each other on the scary journey of ttc.

82 per cent of women who have an ectopic pregnancy go on to have a successful pregnancy within one year. That is the truth. That nurse was a bitch.

Welcome, this is a wonderful support thread.

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 17:04

Welcome @Jjjye - what an awful thing for her to say. Totally heartless and actual untrue. Are you tracking BBT? I've done that the last two cycles and it helped me pinpoint ovulation. Also use the clear blue digital ovulation kit x

Jjjye · 28/06/2020 17:41

Thank you! I have literally tried what I Eveline is everything, taking vitamins and conceive plus to holding my legs in the air lol. I will try BBT this month as I haven’t been tracking it. I have just come off my period so another chance. It might be a silly question but how can I be sure that I’m ovulating? Xx

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 17:43

@Jjjye a temp shift after ovulation is the only real thing that can confirm you've ovulated. CM tracking is also good too but I've read the temp shift is the most important thing to show when/if you ovulated.
Even the clear blue didn't show peak days for me this month but I had a clear temp shift and now I'm pregnant so don't always trust the clear blue x

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 17:44

We used pre-seed too this month just to tick every box! Seems to have worked...!

Jjjye · 28/06/2020 17:58

@Springandsummer123 that’s great! Was it the lubricant that you used? This threat is giving me some hope. Everyone tells me if I stop trying it will happen, it’s easier said than done x

Sammyclaire22 · 28/06/2020 18:09

@ivybutterfly I think I've learnt more about it each time round! Tbf the nurse on the phone was pretty blunt when I was trying to argue for an earlier scan but it did make sense. I'd always hoped I'd have the option of methotrexate if it was before a heartbeat but apparently not. Even the private clinic wouldn't do earlier than 5+4 which is hard as that's actually 6w for me as my cycles are only 26 days long.

@jjjye I did bbt and opks most months since ttc number 2, mainly as it took us so long to even get pregnant first time and I'm older now. Then I started taking coenz 10 about Feb and the month I conceived this time I started on agnus castus. I also use conceive plus lube. Chucked everything at it to help! Still took us 7 months but that's a lot less than first time round. I found bbt most useful as I could be sure my cycle was regular and narrowed down expected ovulation to a day or two. The month I conceived I also planned the days to dtd based on the smep (didn't tell the hub so he wasn't pressured). Good luck x

Springandsummer123 · 03/07/2020 07:45

I've got a scan booked for next Friday when I'll be 5/4. So another week of analysing for every single twinge & fearing the worst. I've pretty much set myself up for bad news already, even though the stats are in my favour, I figure it's better to be set up for bad news. Just wish I could see what's going on in there!
How is everyone?? x

Springandsummer123 · 03/07/2020 07:46

I found this document really useful by the way, explaining the different treatments and % chance or fertility/another eptopic:

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 08:16

Good luck @Springandsummer123 Everything is crossed. Thanks for sharing that. I just saw it.

Does anyone else use the pound store ovulation tests. I am not sure they work.

Sammyclaire22 · 03/07/2020 08:43

Good luck @springsummer123, the wait for the first scan is the hardest bit especially as we have to go alone now. It's another downside of find out so early too. Hope it's good news for you.

I've not used pound land ov tests but I've found wilko ones the best for me and they are pretty cheap. Same with their preggo tests too. I'm sure they are all much of a muchness!

Sammyclaire22 · 03/07/2020 08:44

I'm doing OK, morning sickness has been bad the last day or so especially so I've just phoned the gp to see if I can take anything. Was in bed all afternoon yesterday and I'm struggling to look after my LG now. 10 weeks today so roll on second trimester!

Springandsummer123 · 03/07/2020 09:03

@Sammyclaire22 have you had any other scans other than the early one? I'm tempted to book in for a 7/8 week if I get that far. Hope you're feeling better soon, I never had sickness with my first baby (or the ectopic pregnancy), had a few waves of nausea this time round though but nothing major.
I used the cheapies off eBay for preg tests and used to use them for ovulation too until I went for clear blue blue digital. X

Sammyclaire22 · 03/07/2020 10:01

We did a private scan at about 8+3 on my birthday so hubby could come too. Plus I was worrying about a mc, no reason for it other than lots of bad luck so far!
I've not actually been sick this time, but the nausea is unreal. Last time I could battle through it but this time I'm struggling!

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 11:30

The more nausea the stronger the pregnancy hormone. I had none with my ectopic. It was completely different from my other pregnancies.

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 11:31

I will try the clear blue. Xxx

Springandsummer123 · 03/07/2020 12:50

@Ivybutterfly I found the clear blue really good apart from the month just gone I never got a peak day identified - but clearly I ovulated as I'm now pregnant. So I think all these things need taking with a pinch of salt! But definitely found them more useful than the cheap OPKS - the app that it links to is good as well and reminds you to test etc.

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 13:36

We haven’t been taking this seriously enough I have realised. We need to go in all guns blazing! 😂 Thank you for the recommendation. Xx

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 13:37

I hope your nausea gets better. I got terrible morning sickness with my LO.

Sammyclaire22 · 03/07/2020 14:26

Do you track your bbt at all @ivybutterfly? I found it useful to do that with opks for a few months to narrow down when I was ovulating to a smaller window. Turns out it was earlier than I thought, usually cd10-12 which is probably why it took us so long to ever conceive. The month I conceived this one I ended up planning the days to dtd via smep assuming I would ovulate cd11. It's scripted and less sexy but did the job lol.

I was the same with my dd, just not quite so bad. The second trimester onwards was so much easier. Least it's not long to go now. Maybe it's another girl!

Ivybutterfly · 03/07/2020 15:04

I don’t track my bbt. I think I should if that worked with you. We are DTD every other day so we do not miss the window. So exhausting. When I had a boy the nausea was off the charts. Threw up for the entire pregnancy. I found ginger helps though. Xx

Springandsummer123 · 03/07/2020 15:30

@Ivybutterfly hahaha I certainly went in all guns blazing after my op. I was not going to leave to to fate with one tube down!! Got my BFP on 4th cycle which I don't think is too bad, all things considering - but I do think all my planning helped, vitamins, tracking, daily BBT, pre-seed, handstands after. Hardly romantic but the DH didn't complain! I'm a total planner anyway so it wasn't too much of a drag. My first was a boy and I had zero sickness - so funny how it effects us all differently isn't it.

Sammyclaire22 · 03/07/2020 16:31

I was the same @springsummer123! It took us so long first time round and knowing we were now down to one tube I assumed it would take years tbh. Conceive plus, supplements, moon Cup and opks and bbt! Dread to think how much I spent haha. I feel better when I have more info on what's happening with my body but I know some people it stresses them out.

Every other day is bloody good going @ivybutterfly! No way could we have managed that lol.

I think bbt is good for picking up any other issues that you can sort out. My cycles were on the early side for ovulation so I started agnus castus which put me back to cd12 the month on conceived this time. I have a feeling it was ovulating too early and the egg not being mature enough which might have caused the chemical in Feb. Who knows! Main thing to remember is its definitely possible to conceive a normal pregnancy x

Mumlili9 · 03/07/2020 17:34

Omg I've missed so much

@springsummer123 congratulations fx for a sticky bean in the right place. How are you dealing with the anxiety x

@BMWL I'm so sorry lovely , I can't believe it's happened to you again. So glad they caught it before it made you very I'll. I hope your not too sore and recover quickly. How are you coping

@Sammyclaire22 I use easy@home opks and hots they come in a box of 50 opks and 20 hpts for around £12. Really good test to very clear. I tried fermometer ones but the lines are really faint so you can't tell if its positive or not. I also use cbfm because it measures both hormones. I'm a little but of a poas freak lol
