TTC after ectopic pregnancy

Mumlili9 · 25/02/2020 03:22

Hello I'm hoping to chat with other ladies ttc after ectopic pregnancy with tubal removal. I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and lost my left tube. I don't know anyone who has been through this so I've no one to talk to about this. I would love this tread to become a kind of support group where we can support each other on the scary journey of ttc.

Congratulations! Xx

Springandsummer123 · 27/06/2020 14:23

Thank you - not getting too excited just yet, will be happier after a scan!

Ivybutterfly · 27/06/2020 14:59

I understand. This time is tough. I will keep my fingers crossed. Xx

BMWL · 28/06/2020 08:44

Hi everyone, I got my BFP on the 15th and went for an early reassurance scan on Thursday, sadly it was another ectopic and had to have surgery. Not sure what this will mean for the future but could have been a lot worse.. thankfully it hadn't ruptured.
I want to say good luck and congratulations to everyone on the thread, and thank you for the support over the last couple of weeks.

What's meant to be won't pass you by 💞 xx

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 08:57

@BMWL I am so sorry to hear this. It was so unfair for that to happen twice. Lots of love and hugs to you. Good luck going forward. ❤️❤️ Xxxxx

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 09:47

So sorry @BMWL - did they manage to save the remaining tube? So awful to go through once let alone twice. Thinking of you x

BMWL · 28/06/2020 09:49

@Springandsummer123 they saved the remaining tube thank god, they said the ectopic was stuck to the stump of the leftover tube they removed in February.
There's obviously a hugely increased chance of having another ectopic in the future. I think we will probably start looking at other options because I don't know if I'd be able to go through this again xx

Sammyclaire22 · 28/06/2020 09:50

I know the first few weeks until the scan are so hard @springsunmer123. Im still finding it hard to trust this pregnancy for some reason.

So sorry to hear that @bmwl, how are you coping? Was this your first surgery? Sending lots of love, it's hard to put into words but everyone on this thread knows a little how you feel so you arnt alone x

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 09:58

@BMWL I didn't even realise that was a thing! One more thing to worry about.....
I must admit I have also thought of other options. If the sperm and egg are fine and working (which they obviously are as you got pregnant again) and it's just the implantation that's the issue then I'm sure other options would work? But then it all comes down to cash and if we'd be eligible for funding etc.
Hoping whatever decision you make gets you your baby x

BMWL · 28/06/2020 10:20

@Sammyclaire22 thank you. It's my second surgery. I had my first left ectopic in February of this year. And then this was the second month of TTC after it was safe and then it happens again. Obviously I know there's an increased risk, but I must just have very bad luck!
This thread has been very supportive so that you everyone.

@Springandsummer123 we got pregnant first try in January, and then second try after the surgery so definitely not a problem, but I will probably speak to the consultant about other options once I have my follow up in 6 weeks. I know it can be very expensive. I live in Ireland so we aren't entitled to free IVF, but I think I'm covered for a percentage of the cost with my health insurance. Its something I'll look into xx

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 13:20

A friend of mine had two ectopics in a row. She went on to have a lovely baby boy. ❤️❤️

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 14:22

Your timeline is pretty much the same as mine @BMWL - we have no problem getting pregnant at all. I got pregnant on my 4th cycle since the op this time. I've just done a self-referral online to my local mat services where I had to tick a box for previous ectopics and also asked someone to call me to discuss an early scan - so hopefully they will get me in ASAP. I can't afford to lose my remaining tube.
How far along were you with your scan? It seemed really early, I wonder what's the earliest they can 'see' a pregnancy?
That's lovely news @Ivybutterfly - we've got to focus on the positive stories xx

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 14:58

If I get pregnant I might get a private early scan if they do not see my early enough. My tube actually ruptured.

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 14:59

You can get pregnant without any tubes via IVF.

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 15:06

I'm thinking the same @Ivybutterfly. I cannot wait until 5/6 weeks as by then the damage to the tube could be beyond fixing. I was 6/4 last time and was bleeding internally a lot - I hadn't ruptured but the tube was beyond repair.
Hoping someone calls me this week to get me in. @BMWL was seen very quickly so that's a good sign they take this seriously but I'm obviously at a different hospital trust so hopefully they are just as quick.
I'm obviously very happy to be pregnant but must admit the worry is consuming me a bit, every twinge I'm thinking the worst. I definitely need to chill out.

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 15:11

It is tough. Just try to take your mind of it. Last time they were not fast enough to scan me. I was bleeding internally and they were faffing around. I would not take no for an answer. Could you not just head to the early pregnancy unit? Your GP might even give you a quick referral. Good luck. Xx

BMWL · 28/06/2020 15:24

@Springandsummer123 I was 6 weeks pregnant. They did my initial scan on Thursday but wasn't able to see anything. They did a hcg blood test which was 4000, so they said usually anything over 1000 they are able to see. So they brought me into hospital and repeated the scan and the bloods. Still couldn't see anything on the scan but the bloods were doubling.
Eventually the surgeon went in and said the ectopic was nicely hidden in the little stump left over from where they removed the left tube - he said he's only ever seen this happen once before, so incredibly rare.
They were very on the ball with everything though because I ruptured my left tube in Feb - so they took all the precautions with early scanning etc xx

Springandsummer123 · 28/06/2020 15:30

Sounds like you were really well looked after @BMWL . Thanks @Ivybutterfly - will keep you updated.

Sammyclaire22 · 28/06/2020 15:39

@bmwl it sounds like you've been through so much, but remember what the surgeon said about it being incredibly rare for it to occur in the surgical site. Is there anyone you can speak to about what risks your at for it happening again or is it the same as everyone whose had an ectopic? (I think generally it's about 1 in 10 but that covers everything from women with damaged tubes to one off unlucky situations)

@springsummer123 it's unlikely they will scan you before 6 weeks as they might just see an empty gestational sac which wouldn't rule an ectopic in or out (could be a non viable pregnancy and something else could be causing the hcg) I had to argue for 6 weeks (they usually do it at 7 at my trust!) and at my 6 week scan we saw two sacs but only one baby so the other was likely a twin that didn't develop. It had gone by my 8w private scan. I know how hard it is to wait and risk another rupture as I ruptured at 6w exactly with mine.
Also the nurse told me if they saw an ectopic in the tube even before a heart beat it would still mean loosing the tube as they couldn't remove it and preserve the tube. Methotrexate is usually for if its in the abdomen somewhere. It's shit. All we can hope for is it being in the right place and wait until they scan! X

BMWL · 28/06/2020 15:42

@Sammyclaire22 he said that there shouldn't be an issue in the future as the right tube and everything else looks pristine. I think impossible had a damaged left tube previously from a ruptured cyst surgery a few years back, so I'm hoping all will be ok next time. Can only be positive and hopeful! X

Sammyclaire22 · 28/06/2020 16:04

I hope so for you... Might right tube has done all the work so far! Having a baby seems so many hurdles. I've got my consultant appt and 12w scan in a couple of weeks and my high risk list is LONG Confused x

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 16:29

@BMWL you were so unlucky. I am so sorry this happened to you. Be as kind to yourself as possible. Xxx

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 16:31

I did not know all of that @Sammyclaire22

Ivybutterfly · 28/06/2020 16:32

Having babies is so hard. Good luck to us all. Xxx

Jjjye · 28/06/2020 16:34

I am so happy that I have found this thread. Like many of you I have felt really alone. I had an ectopic pregnancy last year March and had my right tube removed. After the surgery I remember a nurse saying to me “did you want anymore children?” Because if you didn’t then it’s probably a good things as now you won’t get pregnant again. Something won’t those lines anyway. I didn’t even think much of it at the time but me and my partner have been trying for around 5 months now and I just keep thinking of her words as if she knew I would never get pregnant again.
I swear every month a week before I am due on my body let’s off symptoms like I am pregnant and I really believe I am then my period comes and I feel like my body is playing horrible tricks on me. ( so annoying) I just so desperately want to get a BFP but just feel like it is never going to happen 🤦🏼‍♀️
