Gilly - I tried accupuncture (mainly to try to get healthier after chemo, but also to help ttc) 1st time - and did carry on throughout - very helpful, otherwise I'd have ended up at Doctors lots of times not being able to breathe properly - accupuncture sorted this out. Need to plan to go c. 1 every 2wks to keep on top of things. Need to find good practitioner - there is a Directory of Chinese Medcine Practitioners (or something like that) that shows you which ones locally are qualified and belong to the relevant body. Perhaps your Doctors might even be able to recommend someone locally.

I've seen the double P+T - they do look great, although can't see me pushing 2yo plus another along over rough ground! Suggest that you get dcs out to walk as soon as possible - ds, just under 2.6 can go about 2.5miles or so under own steam most days. He was out pushing the buggy along like a rugby player before he could walk unaided...

flosspot · 10/09/2007 13:36

Thanks Gilly!

Re: pushchairs, with mistle on this. Get number 1 walking asap. Avoids the need for pushing heavy double pushchair over uneven ground....and leaves more room for shopping in seat of walking child!

I'd go for something like M&P Pliko or Silver Cross 3D pramette, as they both collapse down small, anmd easily- for car and public transport. Bugaboo is such a nightmare to fold down when you need to.

fifilou · 10/09/2007 14:52

hi!

I'm totally nervous and pooping my pants about my op now. Its next thurs.

My mums coming down to give me some tlc, so together with DH i think I'll be totally spoiled.

Its not going to be pleasant.

stil, the sooner its done the sooner i can get on with ttc again.

Still no period though ladies! A bit woried now (last af june)

Ready · 10/09/2007 14:56

Welcome to the thread Flosspot - You'll love it here, we are all raving mad - You've been trying a long time haven't you(tell you something you don't already know huh!) - Sorry if I sound insensitive - I've been trying over a year now and it's hard going isn't it. My point is , is it harder when you work with children? The reason I ask is that I sometimes think I might like to retrain and be a primary school teacher
I love (and I mean LOVE!) the Bugaboo... feel free to desuade me from it though, it's pricey!!

Mistlethrush - 3 Scarlett's in your ds's class! I am not surprised, I seem to be drawn to names that become popular! How are you doing? Sounds like the acu really helped you! It's definitely something I want to try.

Gilly - I was tempted to go all "Carry On" with your comment of "big baskets" But I won't I know what you mean though, I think having somewhere to put everything is a must! Does the Bug have anything? I must stop being a material girl, and actually see what a Bug can do
I know EXACTLY where you are coming from with all these pregnant people with poor lifestyles. Makes me so angry!

Nomore - Most people say they would prefer to have spent more on the Bug you say - Well then I shall look at the -candy no more
PMSL at the demo of the P&T, not sure why I am laughing, it just seems quite funny. I didn't realise before it was a 3 wheeler. Don't know how I missed that! But I am not a fan of 3 wheels.

Sybil - Glad you are an advocate of the gro-bags! I adore them. A friend of ours introduced me to them. Their little girl looked adorable, so teeny in one

Kensgirl - I mentioned Imogen again to DH, to get it back on the table, but he is standing firm. Don't think I would want him to have a name he didn't like Booooo.

How's everyone else??

PinkMartini · 10/09/2007 14:58

Hello everyone, I have missed you all.
I still haven't joined the March AN club as this is my home and it doesn't feel real (well it didn't until I had my 12 week scan today) can't believe it!
Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that it went well and also that I'm thinking of you all and know that BFPs are just round the corner for all of you.

Pink Martini xxx

Ready · 10/09/2007 14:59

Crossed with you Fifilou - try not to worry about your op. Easy to say I know!! Still no period since June - Have you tested???

fifilou · 10/09/2007 15:00

hey there floss pot! I'm a nanny too!

I think its hard when you work with children, especially at school run time when every mum seems to be pregnant again or just had the most gorgeous babies.

I'm not going to panic yet. Not until my af sorts herself out.

pushchairs- think weve had this discuss before. I'm maclaren all the way. Easy 123, no fuss, no gimmicks, no nonsense.

Ready · 10/09/2007 15:01

Crossed again
Pink Martini - lovely that your scan went well. Will you be putting a pic of your scan on your profile?? Hope you are ok

fifilou · 10/09/2007 15:02

ready- i think the man at boots thinks im a nutter! yes tested a zillion and three times. BFN.

doc tested 5 times.

Had hormone tests- all ok, so think its just a long wait for af to get back to normal after being on pill for 15 years.

I'm not panciked. In fact if i had got preg straightaway i wouldnt be having my op to help me hear again, and that would suck.

im being patient.

fifilou · 10/09/2007 15:03

tests showed my thyroid was boderline........borderline i dont know what, re-test in 3 months.

alos got a scan on nov 19th.

flosspot · 10/09/2007 15:16

Readu- working with babies, children and pregnant mothers has been so hard that I have given up my job altogether. I don't suppose it would be as hard with primary school kids.

Re: basket in Bugaboo- it's quite good although curved, so things often fall out of it....and it's not as big as some.

mistlethrush · 10/09/2007 15:16

Ready - why anti 3 wheels. I've got MB and its WONDERFUL (apart from folding up small - but that's not what we got it for!).

Kensgirl - so glad that you've got the OK to officially start ttc now. Its a long wait isn't it - mind you, at least it wasn't a year like me (although, actually 18months by the time you add in non-diagnosis and treatment...) Testing after birth - just need a blood test at 10 week check. Not a problem after all the blood tests that you've no doubt had and will hopefully get (when you get BFP )

Hi flosspot I'm on the clomid thread with you Don't worry about the names they're lovely and don't sound pretentious, you very rarely use them as full names anyway, though I did register a toddler with five, yes five names the other day, not including his surname!

Ready I agree with you that I am a pram slut!!

fifi good luck with the op - it sounds like you're going to be well looked after

MT I like the mountain buggy, but like how the P&T's does two kids in the space of one and it can go back to one again after baby no1 starts walking.

PM great news do as gilly says and give it a rub from us

OP posts:
Ready · 10/09/2007 22:39

Nomore - 5 names!!! Were they nice names

Gilly - The cost is a sticking point for me at times. Although MIL said ages ago that she had thought about getting us the pram. She doesn't know we are ttc. But she will definitely love the Bug Can you really see me teaching primary?

Flosspot - Sorry to hear that you have given up all together due to it being too hard. That must have been a big decision. I often think about teaching primary - but perhaps only if I am lucky enough to have my own children

Mistlethrush - I am not sure why I don't like 3 wheels. It just doesn't look right to me. I admit it, I am shallow. Things have to look perfect for me

fifi - good luck with the op, and good luck with the thyroid retesting.

What does everyone think to the name Cara?

BabyBratt · 11/09/2007 10:38

Hi ladies

I hope you are all well.

Good luck with the op Fi and I have been borderline with thyroid. My mum had an overactive one but my recent tests have been fine.

My name choice has to be spot on as my surname is Bratt if you hadn't guessed. I must love my DH to take on that surname. Here are a few names we are talking about what do you think?

Olivia or Oliver (after DH childhood nickname because he was always asking for more)

Jessica
Elysia

Adam
Jacob
Thomas
Ethan

Middle name for boys James.

Do you not think naming a child is quite a big job?

BabyBratt · 11/09/2007 11:56

Oh no Olivia was the most popular name last year so may have to rethink

www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_girls.asp

mistlethrush · 11/09/2007 12:47

Ds's name consistently in top 10 - as is 2nd name - but not 3rd (nomore - 'family' name 3rd - trad in dh's family and like to keep that sort of tradition and at least not all names in top 10!)

Ready - we didn't go on looks - went on practicality - dog to walk every day. MB looks fine adorned with muddy sploges in places... but if going on looks, I do think that the bug looks good, although one friend found it a pain due to the way it collapsed etc.

If #2 had come along early enough, I'd definitely have gone for P&T, but as ds walking most of the time already, that won't be necessary even if it does happen.

No chance agiain this month. DH being obtuse.

nomoremagnolia · 11/09/2007 13:05

The kid I registered had four 'traditional' names, then what I suspect was his mum's maiden name then surname Don't think I could do that to my kids! Ours will have family names (tradition in DH's family is for it to be grandparent's names) as middle names, but that's it from me. I do think it's nice to have a middle name (esp if it 'means' something) - my BF doesn't and I always used to feel sorry for her that she didn't!
The P&T's is being chosen on practicality too - I was watching DH play rugby last weekend and thought 'I need a buggy that'll cope with being trudged through a muddy rugby pitch once a week' The one thing all the reviews seem to say is "I wish I'd got it when I had no1 - I only came across the P&T's when looking for a double"

I am veggie, DH is definitely not, although he eats veggie food with me and occasionally cooks something 'nice' for himself.

We agreed that ds would be brought up as an omnivore and he could choose when he was old enough whether to become veggie or not (I did aged 6 as I preferred all veggie food).

So DH gets nice things for himself and ds to cook and makes things like mutton or beef stew, chicken and sweetcorn, made with decent quality meat for ds to have portions frozen and eat them on and off - ds also has veggie meals sometimes, and particularly likes scrambled eggs with sweetcorn and omeletes.

That having been said, nursery isn't 'organic' in sourcing, so ds is veggie at nursery!

flosspot · 11/09/2007 16:40

With you on the middle names thing gilly it doe complete a name. In fact, as you may have noticed, we have chosen two middle names- in case future baby doesn't like their given name...or they want to be on stage! Not veggie, but used to know a little girl who was brough tup veggie (her dad was one) and used to go round begging meat from people's plates at bbqs 9used to live in Cairo- bbqs were regular events...)

I like Cara too, Ready. And Olivia. And bollocks to the list thing...

Nomore and MT- the vrsatility of P&T is great and it's very easy to push over any terrain. But as haven't achieved one baby, never mind two, think I'll be happy with one that works in London, and fits in the boot with room for all the shopping I plan on doing at Bluewater when i am a stay at home mum!

kensgirl · 11/09/2007 17:13

Hi All!!
I've missed loads again

Hi to our pg ladies - I like the names you picked BB, if its top of the list, butwhat you want, then don't worry too much.

Hi Pinkmartini! It's nice to see you back here, I'm sure you will always think of it as 'home', until you are ready to move to the antenatal bit. I'm gald your scan went well, its all good things from there .

Ready, I can see you as teacher too. I teach nursery children most of the time and ks1 in the afternoons. I do like it, but sometimes it is hard being with such little ones, when I desperatley want one of myown, and at other times its just lovely to be around them and be part of their lives. So, a bit mixed really in answer to your question, I think if its what you want then you have to give it a go. Cara is very pretty, dh loves Irish sounding names for girls, but he likes Siobhan and I really don't Hope I don't cause anyone any offene saying that, as I don't know any rl names . I think I might add Harry and Ruby to my list, and Toby.

Mistlethrush, you seem to have a lovely, open aproach in allowing ds the freedom to be able to make his own choices, I think that seems a really relaxed way to be. I also like the 3 wheelers, but as we don't live in the country, I don't think it would be the best choice for us.

I know what you mean aboout middle names being important, Gilly. I think I've said this before, but when we got married the invitations didn't look right with only my 1st name on, as I don't have a middle name. I seriously considered inventing one just to make the invitations look better ... but didn't... and vowed to give my children middle names !

Hi, Nomore! I hope I didn't put you in a funny position by asking your choice of names, I didn't realise it was something you were intending to keep private. Sorry! How are things?

Hi again Flosspot ,.

Good luck with the ear op, Fifi!
