The first thread I've ever started.

Me age 41 and TTC since mmc in June. Anyone else out there.

OP posts:

Clomid could make you produce more than one egg - so it could increase your chances there.
However what it can't do is improve the quality of eggs and it can dry up CM and lenghten your cycles.

Heron23 · 25/04/2008 11:17

I see, thanks for your reply.

I am not sure whether I should take clomid this cycle or wait another month.

has anyone been in my situation?

herbaceous · 25/04/2008 11:32

Attilla the Meerkat knows lots about this. I thought I'd heard that if you have normal cycles, and are ovulating, clomid can do more harm than good, but I'm no expert.

gem2mum · 25/04/2008 13:05

So sorry Heron . I was told that as you get older you may not produce an egg each month so I was told Clomid would ensure that happens, but since you are only on 2nd cycle ttc it does seem a bit early to start Clomid since you might be ok naturally?

rowingboat · 25/04/2008 14:45

Hi Heron, sorry to hear AF arrived. I know how you feel, practically the same thing happened to me just before Christmas: my cycle lasted 33 days and lots of symptoms, then AF.
However, on the plus side I have read that even an early mc or chemical pregnancy can raise your chances of conceiving for the next two or three months, so perhaps you won't need clomid.
It is tempting to give your body a little push, but to be honest getting a result so quickly seems pretty good to me and I think bodes well for the future.
I personally was all fired-up to try again the last time, but as ovulation drew near my heart really wasn't in it and I felt a bit sad. So we didn't really try because I didn't want to. However, the next cycle I was fine again and got back on with it, so you may need a little time, it's only natural.
The other thing about clomid is it can affect the lining of the uterus, and if that isn't good enough then the baby might not stick, so I would say hold off for the next month or two.
You should also be monitored when taking clomid, just in case you develop ovarian hyper-stimulation, which can be very dangerous, will you have support from your clinic?

cece · 25/04/2008 17:16

sorry you are having a difficult time heron.

Heron23 · 25/04/2008 18:12

hi cece, rowing, herb, gem, thank you for your replies. i am feeling much better and starting to move on. i did have a cry this afternoon which made me feel better.

you are right,i am going to hold off on the clomid as i am ovulating and it is very early days still.

i will make sure that i get a scan if i do take the clomid.

i know what you mean about heart not being in it, rowing. this afternoon i was thinking how can i put myself through this again in 2 weeks time?

i did buy another pack of clearblue fertility monitor test sticks. this is my 2nd box.

hope you all have a good weekend. and let us all try be positive, look after ourselves cos that would make it more likely to get a BFP!!!

Nancy66 · 25/04/2008 18:26

Heron, I'm glad you're going to hold off the Clomid. I was 'googling' today and one doctor said that it only increased chances of conceiving by 1% in 40+ women - plus it also seemed to increase chances of miscarriage, something we have a high risk of at our age in any case.
Have faith in your body - I'm sure it won't let you down. Have a great weekend

Heron23 · 25/04/2008 18:32

Hi Nancy, you are very kind. Thank you. You have really made me see clearer about clomid.

You have a good weekend too.

I dont think I have seen you posts before this? Are you ttc?

Heron23 · 25/04/2008 18:32

But then again, i am all over the place since I started ttc, i have prob seen your posts previously

xserialshopper · 25/04/2008 19:32

Heron23 · 25/04/2008 19:46

Thanks X, i will have a look

roquefortlover · 25/04/2008 21:00

heron, sorry you have had a bad day - I always enjoy "talking" to you and you are always so positive so it's sad that you are going through this.

I had a cp in Feb so I can sort of understand - I was devastated at the time, a bit unhinged actually - had never heard of cp before and never dreamt any pg would not just carry on in textbook fashion.

Look after yourself and return to the ttc fray when you are ready! Can't comment on Clomid as don't know anything about if, but as you are def. ov-ing I would be tempted not to use it for a few more months. Hope you feel better soon.

Nancy66 · 25/04/2008 21:04

Hi Heron
I've posted a few times but not on every day. I'm 42 and ttc No1. Hard enough but even more difficult when your partner works overseas every other week. So I tend to be only able to try every other month.
Had no luck in April and he'll be away when I OV in May.

Heron23 · 26/04/2008 09:07

morning all, hello roque, nancy, x,

feeling better this morning, cramping easing off now.

have decided to hold off on clomid and start on acupuncture instead. because i do have regular cycles and do ovulate (dy21 test).

might go see zita west. not sure yet.

it is a lovely day today, a sunny sunny day! let us enjoy this day

roquefortlover · 26/04/2008 09:38

hi heron, glad you are feeling better! It is indeed a beautiful day - have just sent ds off to football which will be lovely for him in this weather. I have to work this morning but hope to get outside this afternoon. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

rowingboat · 26/04/2008 11:06

Heron, I feel confident that despite this set-back you will get your bfp very soon. Have a good day with your DS! I hope you feel better soon!
I was just trying to catch up on everybody's news and I noticed you posted about clomid XSerial, have you decided you will take it? Do you think you will go for the other options you were offered?

Miss Tabitha, hi there, where are you in your cycle?

Where is Lilibet? Are you still looking in?

Where is Bambilocket, I can't wait to see how she got on with her IVF?

We are day something or the other, AF kind of dragged on until yesterday, so not much happening here. I think it is day 7 today.
Can someone remind me to book a smear test next week, I seem to have a mental block, even when I write it down on my calendar. I keep remembering after ovulation and then think, 'oh I had better not, just in case...' which is a bit rubbish on my part. I'm presuming it wouldn't be good to have a smear test if you were in the early stages of pregnancy?

roquefortlover · 26/04/2008 11:29

oh god rowing I am just the same re smears, it's not that they bother me particularly but my reasoning/forgetfulness is just like yours. No way I can get there this month tho I think - work - will have to try next month...

Nancy66 · 26/04/2008 12:06

Do any of you ladies take any supplements or have you made any lifestyle changes in order to get PG?

I've cut out caffeine. I'm not a big drinker in any case but I do still have the occasional glass of wine. I try and eat mostly organic and as for supplements, I take:

Folic Acid
DHA
Evening Primrose Oil
Co-enzyme Q10
Zinc
Selenium
2 x shots wheatgrass juice

god knows if it does any good.

rowingboat · 26/04/2008 12:52

I'll remind you if you like Roquefort - if I remember!?
Wow at your list Nancy! I do take 1000 mg of EPO up until day 14 then switch to flax seed oil and fish oil every day. What else...
Oh and 500 mg of raspberry leaf up until day 14 and a multi vit with minerals and garlic at the moment because I have a sore throat sinus thingy think that's it. Eat honey quite a bit, but not the expensive kind, just on toast or in green tea - which I remember to drink about twice a week.
I love the last two week of the cycle because I have so much less to take.
OK I have to make biscuits now with DS, since we aren't doing anything else.

Heron23 · 26/04/2008 16:48

hi rowing, it is perfectly ok to have a smear even in early pregnancy. just tell the doctor.

Nancy, wow, i am impressed with all the vits you take. I always tend to forget

xserialshopper · 26/04/2008 22:27

Hi everyone.

We had some friends and their 3 kids over to stay last night and we all enjoyed the lovely weather today.

Rowingboat - yeh man! I'm going to take clomid next week when af starts. I'll post how I get on.

I've put my hubby onto vitamins because he has low sperm count plus he cycles to work everyday, mon-fri 5 miles each way. Here's some of what I've put him on www.naturalhealthpractice.com/Fertility_Plan_Of_Action_W41.cfm . I take Folic Acid plus B6. Also I take vit c 2000mg with zinc 30mg when I remember

Bambilocket - if your lurking, I hope everything is going well.

xserialshopper · 26/04/2008 22:31

Oh dear - I don't think my link will work is you cut and paste! Try typing it in

www.naturalhealthpractice.com/FertilityPlan_Of_ActionW41.cfm

(fertilityplanof_actionw41.cfm)

xserialshopper · 26/04/2008 22:34

Ahhhh! The end part is 'fertility' then a dash (not hyphen) then 'plan' the a dash then 'of' then a dash then 'actionw41.cfm' It's obviously my bedtime

xserialshopper · 26/04/2008 22:48

Ok - Here it is without all that palava

SUPPLEMENT ........ YOU .......... PARTNER
Folic acid ........ 400mcg ....... ----
Zinc .................30mg ......... 30mg
Selenium ............100mcg ........ 100mcg
flaxseed oil ....... 1000mg ........ 1000mg
Vitamin B6 up to ... 50mg ........up to 50mg
Vitamin B12 up to .. 50mcg ..... up to 50mcg
Vitamin E .......... 200mg ......... 200mg
Vitamin C ......... 1000mg ......... 1000mg
Manganese ......... 5mg ............ 5mg
