TTC after loss penguins get fit & healthy in 2020

This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

On another note, I’m feeling good as AF has finally arrived and the dreaded PMT has gone. I’ve only eaten fruit so far today too and feel a bit more energetic for it!

Good luck then @BunnytheBlueWhale! Good for you!

Shefliesonherownwings · 06/01/2020 15:42

I'm so glad you went for it @BunnytheBlueWhale. What area of law do you work in out of interest? I'm a lawyer in the public sector, based in house at a healthcare regulator.

I like your suggestion of doing something every day even if it is something small. I forgot DH is working from home today as we had our first counselling session at lunchtime. Tomorrow he is off to london so will be home alone, I'm going try to get to the gym and do some cleaning. I'm planning to take six months mat leave so will need to find things to fill my days.

@SunshineCrocodile you sound like a lovely PT. I've had a couple of PTs before but don't live in the same area, otherwise I'd have gone back to them. The one I saw was lovely and we're having a taster session on Thursday to see if we click. He was very open about it being fine if I didn't feel comfortable booking with him

@MrsMGE how are you feeling today? I think it's completely normal to blame yourself and also feel guilty for feeling better. I certainly blame myself despite everyone saying I did nothing wrong. I understand that but I just don't believe it. I didn't notice something was wrong with my DD. Hopefully in time that will ease off. Try to be kind to yourself and don't feel bad if the grief is easing off. I've heard it gets easier but never goes away, you will always be a mother to your baby even if the grief ebbs.

I had another bad night of sleep and ended up waking at 4:30am and couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to get up and go to tesco to do the food shop at 6am. I got weird looks from the staff for doing a full shop at that time but it was lovely and quiet. Not something I want to do regularly though! DH and I then had counselling. I found it helpful, talking about things makes me feel better and she had some helpful suggestions for coping with some of my anxiety, mainly about bumping into people we know unexpectedly and how to deal with that.

Having been up so early I would normally be snacking on rubbish now but I've been healthy and just had a couple of squares of chocolate after lunch. Am feeling shattered but going to try to stay awake and then go to bed early in the hope of sleeping through. Fingers crossed.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 06/01/2020 16:15

Thanks @SunshineCrocodile!

@Shefliesonherownwings Property lit 😬 It is strange how I managed to fill my days, but I did. I didn’t really ever get bored but I did think of work sometimes and that’s how I knew I was getting ready to go back. I found doing one small thing gave me focus. I knew I wasn’t going to stay in bed or sit by the tv all day because I had to go to the shops to buy food for dinner and then start cooking at a reasonable time. I tended to often have little tasks to do, related to the house (we had just moved) and just having to go to the pharmacy, for example, gave me something to do and a reason to go out. I enjoyed my time off, as much as you can enjoy it in those circumstances. It was good to have that recovery and rest time. I’m pleased counselling is helping you.

@SunshineCrocodile didn't realise you were another local! I live 25 mins down the road from rudding park. It's definitely worth the visit - probably the nicest spa I've been too, though Rockliffe Hall and Swinton Park are also both great.

@BunnytheBlueWhale I'm really glad you put yourself forward, it sounds like there's nothing to lose really. And yay to the end of PMT and eating healthily!

@Shefliesonherownwings I wouldn't suggest making the early morning shops a habit but imagine it was peaceful! I'm glad the counselling went well and gave you some practical suggestions. I hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

What are you all eating tonight? I'm planning in making a turkey mince bolognese- the sauce is zero points on weight watchers and I've been good today so can have a decent portion of pasta with it. I'm having a relaxing herbal tea each evening after dinner, I've built up quite a collection but recommend the twinings 'sleep' tea for getting you in a relaxing mood, also the Apple Crumble tea from ASDA is a good one to help satisfy a sweet tooth but with zero calories....

BunnytheBlueWhale · 06/01/2020 16:51

We have our first day of Hello Fresh! It’s either rhyme roast turkey or roast lamb today 😬

Evening girls!

Had a nightmare of a busy day in work and didn't manage to get out for a walk. In fact didn't have a lunch break at all, boo! En route home now, I left even though I could stay another hour. I didn't want to - I got my fitness class at 8pm and not a chance I'd skip it! 💪

@Shefliesonherownwings I'm good, thank you. Fellow lawyer too 😊 in private practice as you may guess from the amount of work 😂 I was an in house before and would consider that again in the future for sure 😁 Glad you had a gentle day, one day at a time and don't plan for the entire period because you simply won't know how you're going to be. There's every chance you'll end up feeling better than you might be imagining now ❤️

I am BLOODY STARVING!!! No snacks today at all apart from one fruit bar and some fruit. Porridge with honey and blueberries for breakfast and home made Caesar salad for lunch. Now going to have a tuna casserole with courgettes, peppers, tinned tomatoes, sundried tomatoes and olives, before I shoot off to my class.

@BunnytheBlueWhale Well done, girl! Good on you that you've applied! Best of luck 😊 PS - I'm loving you came for the final push to our thread! 😁 Xxx

Seen this today and really liked it!

@Seahawk80 @LASandOtto I am glad you / Seakhawk's DH feel the same about the leggera! £1 more for 10 mouthfuls of pizza Grin

@LASandOtto your snowboarding story made me giggle. Your poor bottom! No doubt I will have a few bumps and scrapes too (but won't post a pic of my bottom on here, don't worry). I just hope I don't break anything - we have just arrived so first day on the nursery slope tomorrow!

@MrsMGE your post on grief really resonates with me. It's the memories that I don't have that I find so painful. Hugs xx

@BunnytheBlueWhale @SheFliesOnHerOwnWings I am a lawyer too Shock Very glad you applied for that post Bunny - best of luck to you!

tortiecat · 06/01/2020 19:10

@SunshineCrocodile I have not tried the figgy pudding! I must give it a go next time. Sitting in Pizza Express with a book, coffee and pud sounds like heaven - go for it!

@MrsMGE you too?! I am considering the move to in house (in hope the hours might be a bit better, were they for you?) but I really like my firm / team so staying put for now.

Seahawk80 · 06/01/2020 19:14

Thanks everyone. Sorry if I'm a bit quiet over the next week, I'm probably going to park exercise while I'm still spotting and I'm going to eat healthy meals but if I need extra carbs / treats I'll go for it over the next week. I'm feeling really sick which I just hope is a good sign.

The EPU near me is a walk in so I'm going Tuesday next week. I'll be 6+6 then adjusting for my cycle and I think that's as long as I'll be able to make myself wait and I should hopefully see a heartbeat by then if all's well. Spotting is still there but mainly brown with the odd bit of pink. It's only ever when I wipe and not every time. Iwear a panty liner and there's nothing on it. I'm just worried that it's the start of something worse.

LASandOtto · 06/01/2020 19:15

@MrsMGE enjoy the fitness class today! Dinner sounds lovely!!! You're really on a roll girl - very proud of you! Amazing results from just a few days....

@BunnytheBlueWhale really pleased you applied for the chair position of that committee - you're so right because there's no point keeping the here and now on hold for a future that might happen next month or in 3 months time! Brilliant that you're going for it!

Which of the Hello Fresh options are you making today? Send us your verdict on the recipes! I'm still considering ordering for next week maybe!

@Shefliesonherownwings I'm glad your first session went as well as these things can go. It must feel good to be able to talk with someone who isn't a friend or family member; who isn't expected to respond a certain way, who will probably over time direct and steer you and give you practical help.

How are you feeling about your PT on Thursday? Sounds like you've got a nice one and like @SunshineCrocodile said, often times the PT's really are taking a holistic approach and you're mental well-being is also addressed!

I'm having yesterday's leftover soup today as OH is working away today and I didn't want to throw it away! It's all vegetable so very healthy!

Had a lovely lunch of German rye bread with smoked salmon, crudités and as a snack I had some nuts and fruit too!

Feeling good today but slept rubbish so early night for me!

Is everyone living in the same area or is someone also London bound like me and not a lawyer WinkGrin hahaha! How funny that so many of you are in the legal profession!

As some of you saw I posted over on our other thread too that we had a positive test this morning and so I may 🤞🏻 be third time lucky and have a 2020 happy surprise. Let's see as super early days and for now, I just want to relax!

I'm still here a hundred percent on the healthy game and exercise front x

Seahawk80 · 06/01/2020 19:16

@SunshineCrocodile forgot to say - I love that fig dessert!!

Seahawk80 · 06/01/2020 19:17

@LASandOtto congratulations!! I'm also in London (SE) and not a lawyer!!

tortiecat · 06/01/2020 19:18

Congratulations @LASandOtto - everything crossed for you!

tortiecat · 06/01/2020 19:20

@Seahawk80 still keeping everything crossed for you too. Take care of yourself xx

MrsMGE · 06/01/2020 19:28

Haha @tortiecat you too?! Oh dear! It's like the MN Law Society on here 😂

I took a detour to working in-house fairly early on, following my secondment. Spent quite a few years there, really enjoyed it, worked 8-4, ALWAYS had time for everything and it was interesting to work with non-lawyers. It meant I had to adjust my communication skills and learnt to avoid jargon at all costs. Money was decent too, but I was blocked progression-wise because the Head of Legal was circa 45yo and so no prospect of retirement, or leaving in the near future - it was a good place. I never had to worry about moody or difficult clients. I never had targets. Our team was respected and considered to be "the clever ones", but also the fun ones. We actually had a laugh! Looking back, it was a bliss. But then, I like a challenge, so here I am, back and climbing up the usual ladder 😂 xxx

MrsMGE · 06/01/2020 19:41

@LASandOtto Delighted for you and hopefully this time everything will be OK. I saw your post on the other thread, if it was CB Digital then it's deffo no mistake. Did you tell DH? Re announcing this on here, obviously we all want a BFP at some point, otherwise we wouldn't be here. But honestly, I feel relief and joy for you that you got that after all the shit last year and may it be a very different outcome this time. You're ready for it, fit, new home, I keep everything crossed this will complete this year for you. I'm not TTCing this month for sure - I have a smear test next week and I know if I randomly got a BFP after I'd be panicking, not to mention if I MCd again, I'd always be thinking that maybe it was linked as you're not meant to have them in pg. I know this might be unreasonable, but I'm not taking chances. I'll see how much weight I lose this month and see where I am in Feb, probably will have another month off tbh. It's so nice not to think about this!!! Xxx

LASandOtto · 06/01/2020 19:49

@MrsMGE you have a great outlook sister, I'm really happy for you!

You're making choices for your wellbeing and happiness and I can really feel that you're in a good place!

I'll be here anyway, I want to focus on my health, I am still going to workout as well! It's done so much good for my wellbeing and my mind so far and I don't want to stop!

Enjoy the class and dinner later! X

Avocuddles · 06/01/2020 21:03

@LASandOtto another non lawyer here! I qualified as a chartered accountant but haven't worked in finance for a number of years. I work in buying and merchandising - it's a fun and challenging job and I definitely enjoy it far more than the world of accountancy.

@MrsMGE glad you're feeling positive and enjoying some time off. It's been four months since my second miscarriage now and I'm only just starting to think about actively TTC. The mental health benefits of time out were huge for me, having two losses in quick succession was very draining and I don't think I could have dealt with another in 2019.

@Seahawk80 it's great that you can walk in to your EPU - getting into the one near me is hard work, I had to sob on a midwife last time round to get seen! Good luck to you - hoping to hear about a lovely strong heartbeat very soon....

Enjoyed my healthy bolognese (turkey mince and lots and lots of veggies!) and have a portion set aside for lunch tomorrow. Written out a meal plan and shopping list for the rest of the week - a few joe wicks meals plus lots of fruit and some nuts are on the menu. The thought of the fig dessert is making me salivate!

MrsMGE · 06/01/2020 21:14

My new fitness classes in one sentence:

Never in my 33 years have I thought I'd be doing a dance routine to "Pony" 😳

Channing Tatum, here I come 😂 (I'm dying, BTW!) xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 06/01/2020 21:24

So many lawyers! @MrsMGE @Shefliesonherownwings @tortiecat

@LASandOtto Tonight was rhyme roast chicken with roasted veg and edges. Not a meal I’d usually make but I enjoyed it. See pic. I’ll photo the recipe card if any of you are interested.

@Seahawk80 I think that’s sensible to be honest. I’m sure you’d do no harm but you don’t want to be worrying unnecessarily

I ate healthily enough today (by my standards) I had a banana as a v late breakfast, two cut apples and a piece of cheese(!) for lunch and then a cereal bar later on in the afternoon as I was hungry! I got home and had the chicken and roast veg and wedges followed by 4 small (honest!) pieces of Hotel Chocolat chocolate. I feel like eating more by I won’t 😬

Ooh your dinners sound good! I've eaten chicken casserole with some form of green veg for three out of the last four meals as nobody else in the house liked it (heathens! It's bloody delicious!). I still have more left but it's going in the freezer and I'll be grateful to see the back of it! Have stayed away from snacks all day though. Looking forward to my first strength training session in months tomorrow morning - although not how little I'm going to be able to lift after such a long break!

Am I literally the only non-lawyer in here? My sister is a lawyer, does that count? Grin

BunnytheBlueWhale · 06/01/2020 22:59

By the way thought I should mention I would usually have a proper lunch but I didn’t get around to making one as we went to my parents for dinner last and I didn’t want to break my rule of taking a packed lunch on the first day!! I would usually eat more than fruit, cheese and a cereal bar while at work 😬

SunStruck · 07/01/2020 05:11

Hey all girls! I know (almost) all of you, happy to be invited to this thread 😄

I've read a lot of posts here (not all, I'm a bit late in the game!) and am impressed about the healthy resolve for 2020! I'm jumping right on the bandwagon.

So for me, I'm usually healthy during the weeks (always being cooked lunches in), and trying to have light dinners (soup with an egg or something similar, no carbs). Brekkie is always eggs and a piece of toast.

Exercise wise is also good, I go 5 times a week before work. 2 PT sessions (weights) a week, and I do 1-2 weight sessions myself plus cardio per week, and then pure cardio 1-2 times a week (love spin classes etc).

My downfall is the weekends, I eat whatever I want on the weekends and that could be a lot depending on what we do, but we seem to have some sort of event on every weekend! Friends birthdays, friends leaving do's (we live abroad), family/friends visiting, etc etc... hence I definitely drink too much wine 🤣 and you gals know what it's like... you can be good 4-5 days a week but will ruin it with just one weekend. Also do A LOT of Deliveroo orders on the weekends 🤦🏻‍♀️

That's me in a nutshell! So for 2020 I'm starting with Dry Jan (never been done before by me - And I have a friends 30th coming up but will stay strong). We've also bought a slow cooker and will cook easy and healthy meals to bring for work/dinners, and I'm eating more veggie/vegan (I'm trying to go fully veggie 3 days a week). So far so good (I know it's the first week 🤣).

Normal BMI here but would be happy to lose maybe half a stone just to look 🔥 🤣
