This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

@Avocuddles That's a nice weekend. DH and I are off for a walk, the weather is lovely today. Then quickly pop to the shops, and then I'm sadly working this afternoon. So busy that I had to take one instruction home. Off to the cinema tomorrow to see "Little Women" and I might see my friend for a coffee. So achy today that I might just do a long walk and go back to my exercises tomorrow morning. Have a lovely weekend girls xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 08:48

@Avocuddles I don’t really have plans. Going to yoga shortly but otherwise going to try to relax tbh! Other than maybe going to the carpet shop etc. Last weekend we visited DH family a few hours drive away so felt like I didn’t really have a break to relax so want some time to myself this weekend...

@MrsMGE I hope you enjoy the file and I’d love to know how you find it. I loved Little Women when I was younger

@BunnytheBlueWhale Did you manage to get to yoga then after all? Or is it a different class? Glad you're going 😊

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 09:20

@MrsMGE the class bookings open at 7 am, 8 days before the class. I’m on for today. Yesterday I was trying to book for next Saturday. It’s very popular and is full within half an hour. So I won’t be able to go next week.

MrsMGE · 18/01/2020 09:30

I see @BunnytheBlueWhale. Well, enjoy today, next thing you can do something else that will also be good for you 😊 and fingers crossed you'll book with no issues for your yoga class in 2 weeks' time xxx

Shefliesonherownwings · 18/01/2020 11:34

Morning all. Looks like it was a hard week for a lot of us last week. I think January in general sucks but when we are all going through this stuff, it seems even worse.

We've had a tough week battling with the hospital over getting my notes, trying to move our consultant appointment forward and to another venue as they want us to go to the maternity unit! It's all arguments we shouldn't have to have. DH is doing the bulk of it but it's hard on him.

He's has gone to the football today so I'm on my own but my house needs a good clean. I've become such a slob since we lost Isla, I would love a cleaner but I don't think we can justify it as our house isn't that big. I had my first proper session with my PT yesterday and my God I'm aching today. My abs and thighs are on fire! I did lose a pound which I'm pleased about and I think the tummy is shrinking. I'm going for lunch with MIL and SIL which should be nice but other than that no plans this weekend.

tortiecat · 18/01/2020 12:21

@MrsMGE @BunnytheBlueWhale thank you both for your support. I was worried that I was being unkind by not being supportive of how things are for her, but boosted by what you have said I will certainly say something if it gets too much. I have been speaking to my counsellor about all the more direct and insensitive comments I have had since I lost my son, I tend to just smile politely but feel hurt underneath and tell myself I am too sensitive, I need to be a bit more assertive I think.

I did decline an invite to her third baby shower (!) recently - I just can't cope with that.

@BunnytheBlueWhale woohoo! Good for you both - never thought I would be encouraging strangers on the internet to have sex Grin

In other news I have just weighed myself and lost a further 2lb, even after a shit week at work so I am proud of myself x

tortiecat · 18/01/2020 12:27

@Shefliesonherownwings what a tough week for you and DH. No parents should have to go through this, it's not difficult to understand that you want this sorted and that you don't want to have to go back to mat unit where you lost Isla - hope it all gets sorted soon.

Well done on having your PT sess!! Don't be hard on yourself when it comes to cleanint the house, just do little bits that you can manage today if you're hobbling about with DOMS! & enjoy your lunch, you deserve it xx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 13:38

@BunnytheBlueWhale If she’s a good friend she will understand you saying that you’re just not the person to have that conversation with right now.

And it’s funny how we talk about things that would be so TMI unless talking about TTC and pregnancy!

@Shefliesonherownwings I went to the maternity unit for my consultant appointment. Not where we’d had our DD but still a maternity ward and it baffles me that they haven’t addressed this already given the number of parents go in for these conversations. I hope the appointment goes as well as it can. I made a list of questions as they came to me and took it with me but I found she answered most of them and wasn’t willing to speculate at all, which sounds obvious but at the time there were things we thought might have contributed to her death but she wouldn’t even discuss it other than what was in the PM report. We knew the cause anyway as she was born completely wrapped up in her cord.

@tortiecat I think healthy assertiveness (firm, but non-agressive) is always good. Look at us - we're women who lost our babies, we got together because we were seeking support and togetherness. However, look how many topics we have discussed on this thread. Children aren't the only topic of discussion, even in circumstances as hard as ours. We're still interesting women, we have millions of other things to talk about. So does your friend. If she's desperate to talk pregnancy and babies, she has other circles to talk about it, such as mums from nursery/school/playgroups etc. That's far more appropriate for the time being and there's nothing wrong with that and not much to ask for. It's called compassion and friendship, you deserve this ❤️ xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 14:24

Do any of you do yoga at home? You probably all know I love yoga and do it once or twice a week but I want to try the 30 days of yoga with adrienne on youtube. I have started getting up a bit earlier anyway so might just need to get up ten mins earlier to do half an hour in a morning. I’m interested to see how it sets me up for the day to take some time to myself and be mindful... I’ll let you all know!

SunStruck · 19/01/2020 01:26

@bunnythebluewhale @shefliesonherownwings oh that is shocking and I'm sad to hear! I know I had to go to the maternity ward (with all the pics of the babies on the wall) when I had my d&c after miscarriage, but that's nothing compared to what you have to go through - You'd really think they would sort something else 😔

@tortiecat wohooo congrats on losing weight! I love how this thread is going ❤️ and I love your nickname, I also have two cats - My actual babies (as no Hooman babies yet) 🤣 People actually think I'm the crazy cat lady (don't blame them).

@lasandotto very nice gesture, what did you get him in the end?! 😄

@MrsMGE We also have a cleaner! Only comes once every 2 weeks for a deep clean, and I'm cleaning inbetween. So worth it! My DH also have an 'ironing man' coming to pick his shirts up, iron them and send them back here. I don't have the foggiest about ironing (also dislike it), and I never have much to iron anyway (always trying to buy clothes I don't need to iron 🤣). It's not expensive out here.
How have your healthy weekends been ladies?!

So I went for a spa day yesterday and did a facial, bliss! After that me and DH went to share a bucket of seafood and grilled corn by the sea - Bliss! All cooked, nothing raw 😉

God lots of spelling and grammar mistakes in last post sorry, trying to type quickly before work. They really should implement an editing function!!!

Mumlili8 · 19/01/2020 02:22

Just thought I'd share my day with you ladies. Do any of you ladies use a fitbit. I've had one for years now and it does help to keep me motivated.

@MrsMGE sorry missed, trying to catch up - Congrats on the pay rise!! 🥰 New promotion, new pay rise... go on 2020 ❤️

SunStruck · 19/01/2020 02:58

@mumlili8 well done! No but I use another one called myzone, it doesn't track steps but tracks all my workouts which is great 😁 I see how many calories I have burned and can 'eat back' basically 🤪

Avocuddles · 19/01/2020 08:30

@Mumlili8 great day, well done! I love my Fitbit though must admit I sometimes get a little obsessed with trying to 'read things' from the heart rate charts. My DH also has one so I like to use the 'challenge' feature to motivate us to both get more steps in thanks to an element of healthy competition!

@SunStruck glad you had a lovely day yesterday x

SunStruck · 19/01/2020 08:35

@avocuddles it was a bliss thank you 😊 what's on the agenda today food wise and exercise wise?

I managed 45min cardio before work! 💪

Avocuddles · 19/01/2020 09:27

@SunStruck we're off to a vegan cafe for some brunch shortly then a walk around the park before the food shop, I'm working in London on Monday and Tuesday visiting a trade fair so I suspect this week might be the healthiest but I'll continuing trying to resist the snacks and I won't be tempted to break dry January anymore!

MrsMGE · 19/01/2020 10:06

@SunStruck Thanks and glad you had a lovely day yesterday 💞

@SunStruck @Mumlili8 Well done on your fitness/exercise!!! 🙌 I'm joining Mumlili's question re Fitbit - do you reckon Fitbit is the best one out there or is there anything else out there that is good and reasonably priced? I'd like to keep track of steps and calories burnt through all activities, as you know I do HIIT, but also occasionally do the gym or swim and I'd like it to measure all calories if possible.

I had nice poached eggs with bacon medallions for brekkie, made a spicy carrot & parsnip soup for lunch and a SW pasta bake with veg for dinner. I had the same yesterday and was so full. My tummy has definitely shrunk!

Also I've noticed I'm not craving sweets at all. I had a chocolate orange Graze flapjack yesterday (delicious and only 140 cal) and I found it soooo sweet, nearly sickly. Even though it's nowhere near as chocolatey as what I used to eat if I craved chocolate (Cadbury or Lindt, obvs...). I'm pleased with this. I've concluded the one thing I absolutely cannot ever eliminate from my diet isn't chocolate. Not even alcohol or crisps. It's actually cheese! Extra mature or vintage cheddar, mmmmm 😂😂😂

I did JW HIIT the Dubai series this morning, mistakenly thinking surely it won't be a killer session considering the temperature out there...how wrong was I 😩😩😩 I barely finished it, currently dying on the sofa!!! I had to slow down on about 3 exercises as I thought my heart would jump out of my chest 🤣🤣🤣

So I'll be honest girls, I haven't lost any weight this week. I've fluctuated and eventually maintained. Bit disappointing, but thanks to My Fitness Pal I can sort of see what to eliminate (too many nuts, just too calorific). I've also only started being good on Weds after a 4 day weekend only went out walking once or twice on my lunch breaks, so I think next week will be better. I'm approaching things differently now, it's not a race or a temporary diet, but a change in my mindset to do good things for myself, so I'm not quitting on it. Although I'm stressed in work atm, I can see how much looking after myself has helped with reducing stress around we-know-what and it's great. xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 19/01/2020 10:09

@SunStruck Your DP’s and seafood day sounds lovely!

@Mumlili8 Well done! I’ve got a Tom Tom watch somewhere which I haven’t had our since we moved. I liked it because I could put music on it without having to take my phone out for a run but it tracks steps etc. I’m going to see if I can dig it out today, and the charger, and start using it again

I didn’t eat super well this week but not too badly either and I did a bit of exercise. Going for a walk now with DH and his friend who lives around the corner

Have a nice Sunday everyone ☀️

Also I wonder if there is a link between the approach preventing diabetes and fertility. Women with PCOS are often put on metformin, a diabetes drug. The recent BBC research also shows links with diabetes drugs and reducing the risk of miscarriage. The NHS recommends keeping a healthy diet and losing weight to improve fertility which inevitably means reducing sugar intake. I'm just thinking out loud whether there's more to it.

@Avocuddles Have a lovely meal at the cafe ❤️ Sounds great! How are you feeling? Xxx

MrsMGE · 19/01/2020 10:22

@SunStruck I didn't realise you're pg! Congratulations 💐💐 Wow, we're entering week 3 with a third BFP, what a run! Xxx

LASandOtto · 19/01/2020 10:36

Morning ladies!

@Mumlili8 @MrsMGE I've got the Fitbit since a couple of years and I couldn't imagine life without it. My DH has one too, and we even got them for his parents for their birthdays and my sister too (my mum would never wear one) and they all love it too. I do find it pushes me to do my minimum 10k steps a day if not more. I also like to see the stats on my workouts and the sleep tracking is also interesting. Their customer support has also always been excellent.

We've been packing all weekend - flat starting to look empty already. It always makes me feel unsettled seeing all the boxes and nothing being in it's place but it's just 2 weeks before we move and that week before we do I'm away on a work trip. Yesterday we did a lovely park jog / walk and then were active all day with the packing.

Made a healthy lentil stew in the evening which is a Spanish recipe with carrots, potato and some chorizo for DH.

Sorry I haven't kept track of all the chats. It's been a bit hectic trying to organise myself at the moment!

What's everyone doing this Sunday? @Avocuddles your plan sounds lovely. I have a great vegan cafe close to my house called Wild Food Cafe. Excellent dishes! I was really wowed when they opened as we tried it and it far surpassed my expectations.

@MrsMGE when I've abstained from sweets and snacks I've had the same 'oh' moments, when you then do have something sweet you find it almost sickly! Funny how we can adapt our taste buds!

SunStruck · 19/01/2020 11:02

@avocuddles that sounds like a great Sunday!

@MrsMGE yeah I just found out yesterday morning! Sorry didn't announce it here as this thread is more for keeping fit and healthy, and I know it can be triggering. Thanks though, here we go again... I think my 2 mc:s ruined it for me, I don't feel that excited and just waiting for something to go wrong basically! Just trying to keep as fit and healthy as I can with lots of rest in between, and on top of my vitamins x that soup you mentioned sound lovely by the way, I'm also into soups at the moment... I've made butternut squash soup for dinner this week! Do you have it with something else or just on its own?

@lasandotto wow sounds hectic, but well done for eating healthy and working out although you got lots to pack!
