Short LP & cycle success stories

Hello everyone. I'm hoping for some help. TTC#2 had an unsuccessful pregnancy (termination) 3 years ago. Conceived 3rd cycle of coming off pill last time, cycles were 28-29 days. I'm a 28.

Had nexplanon implant out September and had very short cycles since 23-24 days. I ovulate around CD14-15 and then my LP is only about 8-9 days long.

Does anyone have any success stories in similar situations and any advice on lengthening cycle? I've been taking sertraline 100mg for the last 13 months, reduced my dose down to 25mg the last month and now I have stopped completely. CD1 today. I also have been drinking 2-3 coffees a day - could any of these effect my cycle?

Thank you all 💕 any advice welcome

Thank you @rj995 and @georgialondon for your positive stories 😍

@Trying2019 what contraception did you use before? TTC is so crap and even worse that most GPs won't even look at you until 12 months of trying (which I think is ridiculous). I'm totally convinced the implant messed me up, I mean how can it be normal not to ever have periods no wonder my body is taking a while to regulate.

@Nobunintheovenyet I did loaaadsss of research on vitamins to help regulate periods and so now take B complex, extra B6 (both Holland and Barrett), high strength C and D (asda own), agnus castus (off Amazon) and I take folic acid. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not but had my longest cycle yet and LP extended by 2 days so far. AF due any time.

@rj995 thats good to hear thanks for posting.

@Trying2019 thats a good idea and hopefully you will have hubbys sperm results to take with you. Mine is waiting on his results going to get him to call drs today. Hope you have a better day than yesterday and Happy New Year!

Nobunintheovenyet · 31/12/2019 10:39

@Beau2019 i highly doubt its coincidence. 2 days is a big difference, fingers crossed the cream does that for me!

Beau2019 · 31/12/2019 10:52

@Nobunintheovenyet I hope not 😂 although I am totally sceptic because I've never had these issues with my periods before and never had to take these vitamins.

I've done 2 tests 28th and 29th both BFN so I'm
going to wait now until at least 2nd if AF doesn't show. That would be CD28. Although I'm sure she's imminent as I've had mild cramping for a few days and usual pre AF spots

Trying2019 · 31/12/2019 10:52

@Beau2019 i was on the pill. When i first stopped i had a 37 day and then a 46 day cycle so im glad my cycles are at least shorter. My AF still isnt here properly. 2 days of barely any spotting and nothing so far today. I had this one cycle before then she arrived in full force. So not sure if my luteal phase is actually normal but i just spot before 🤷‍♀️ when will u test? Its great that u have got to day 11.

@nobunintheovenyet hopefully your husbands come back ok. You have to make an appointment to drop my husbands sample off and im not sure they open weekends so going to be difficult to get it to the hospital within the hour. Just found out where i want to go on holiday had Zika 5 years ago 😠 xx

Trying2019 · 31/12/2019 10:53

@Beau2019 sorry just seen cross post and u have already tested. Hope AF doesnt arrive xx

Nobunintheovenyet · 31/12/2019 11:11

@Beau2019 I suppose each pregnancy is different 🤷🏻‍♀️ Its a pain that we have to do all these things tho. Being in limbo is the worst, at least if she comes you can focus on the next cycle.

@trying2019 he called them and he has a telephone appointment on thursday, then I can take the results to my doctors as we are at different drs. Yes I hope all is good just worried about what my dr will do next. Yes oh had to do that too, everything takes so long though.

Where is it you want to go? Thats such a shame, how long is it they say you should wait to ttc? 4 months?

Beau2019 · 31/12/2019 11:24

@Nobunintheovenyet no sadly it's 12 months before a GP will even look at you 😭😭😭 however if you have irregular periods they will see you for that but as for TTC it's 12 months before you will be preferred to a fertility clinic.

You could always lie about how long you've been trying. Loads of people on MN have done so

Preferred haha! I meant referred 🙈

Hi guys - can I join? I'm 34 and on just finished cycle #4 TTC. I'm now CD1 as AF showed up. I'm concerned that my LP is only 8/9 days. I've just ordered some of the liquid Agnus Castus from amazon and will get some vitamin b6 and vitamin c supplements from Holland and Barrett later. I was on the pill for 18 years before coming off to TTC, so not sure if my cycles are still sorting themselves out or if this is my "normal". Our TTC journey has already been delayed by about 2 years as I was diagnosed with Fibroids and have had two surgeries to remove, which meant I couldn't come off the pill. I'm really hoping 2020 is my year. Good luck to all.

Nobunintheovenyet · 31/12/2019 12:15

@Beau2019 i’m over the 12 months unfortunately. Have been to my dr had some bloods and an internal scan all seem normal, other half is waiting for his sperm test results so ill be taking them to my dr, not sure what will happen after that, I get anxious thinking about it lol.

@Wearenotyourkind heyyyy, when we were first ttc I didn’t track at all so not sure if my lp was short back then but it has been for at least the last 8 months. I was also on the pill for over 10 years bot sure if that goes against me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes lets hope 2020 is a better year!

Trying2019 · 31/12/2019 12:43

@Wearenotyourkind welcome. Hopefully its just your cycles settling down. How long are they currently? Im hoping to see some positives on here in 2020. I bet your glad to now be in a position to start. Wishing you lots of luck

@nobunintheovenyet i wanted to go to cape verde. Not that many places for winter sun. The risk is low but with the point of the holiday being to relax it would be silly to go. Hopefully u know more on Thursday. Ill be glad to get my husband tested but nervous at same time. After how long ttc did you go to the doctors? Xx

brightside11 · 31/12/2019 12:52

I extended my LP with "seed cycling". Basically you eat nuts/seeds that supposedly boost either progesterone or oestrogen in different parts of your cycle. You can find instructions online. I also increased my BMI slightly (to 19) & stopped exercising so much.

The only other thing I can think of is I had my thyroid checked by a fertility specialist and she recommended a low dose of levoxythyroxine (25mg). I didn't have clinical hypothyroidism but apparently when TTC your TSH levels should ideally be less than 2.5, which mine weren't before I started the medication.

My LP increased and the breakthrough blessing gradually stopped.

I got pregnant the month after I started the medication and about three months after I started seed cycling, eating more etc.

Wearenotyourkind · 31/12/2019 12:52

Thanks for the welcome. My cycles are currently 26-28 days, with one random 32 day cycle. My original post should say just finished cycle #5, so now onto #6.

It really helps to find people who understand the stress of TTC Smile

brightside11 · 31/12/2019 12:53

Breakthrough bleeding, not blessing! Autocorrect fail

Trying2019 · 31/12/2019 13:25

@Wearenotyourkind i am on cycle 8. I started off with long cycles and said id be happy if my cycle was shorter but now its 28-30 days im still not happy. Last two cycles ovulated day 18. This month im going to temp to confirm ovulation and take vitamin c. Im going to get tests done at doctors so dont want to try anything else but after then will try progesterone cream i think. It is nice to chat to people in a similar position.

@brightside11 thanks so much for sharing. Ill definitely try the seeds next cycle after having my progesterone checked this cycle. Its good to know little changes or medication can make a difference xx

Nobunintheovenyet · 31/12/2019 13:43

@Trying2019 aww cape verde is supposed to be lovely, are there any other destinations you could try? Yer I’m with you I wouldn’t risk the stress of it. Well I assume there is nothing wrong with his sperm.... thats the hope anyway but yes Thursday hopefully. Went drs after 12 months, that was back in October, they were pretty layed back about it even though I’m 32 and never been pregnant.

@brightside11 hey..... I’ve never heard of seed cycling, will look into it if the Progesterone cream I’m using has no effect. Oh when I go drs next I’m going to ask for a print out of my bloods and look them all up, see if any of them are on the low side.

Yes defo nice to have people who understand, even OH Don’t really get it.

Trying2019 · 31/12/2019 17:53

@nobunintheovenyet

I might go to tenerife. Limited with what places are warm in march and dont have the zika threat. Ive decided all ive done the last couple of days is dwell on the negative of not being pregnant. Whereas its actually been the best year getting married and celebrating with amazing family and friends and i have to focus on that. So wishing you all a great new year xx

CooperLooper · 01/01/2020 10:30

Hey, joining in as I'm in a similar situation to would like to hear if other people's success stories!

29 TTC#1. I had Nexplanon removed on 5th October and has no bleeds at all for over 6 years, for Oct no withdrawal bleed that month. Start of Nov I got a peak OPK then had a 2-day veeery light AF starting just 4DPO.

Then skipped an entire predicted cycle never had another AF until 27th Dec, again another really light 2-day period this time 9DPO - this time confirmed with OPKs and BBT.

All the medical advice says fertility returns immediately after your implant is removed but I'm clearly just taking longer to get back into a rhythm which is frustrating and disheartening. I haven't got enough data or patterns to predict a cycle yet and I'm going into month 4!

I'm hoping next month (if no BFP obviously) then my LP will increase to 10/11 days at least. With my really light AFs I'm just worried my uterus lining isn't forming thick enough so my progesterone isn't high enough, so now all sorts of weird infertility thoughts are in the back of my mind all the time. Which I know is unreasonable but still.

Ovia is predicting my next fertile window from 7th Jan onwards so 🤞🏻

Good luck everybody else!

Beau2019 · 01/01/2020 13:46

Hey @CooperLooper !!

I feel your pain - it's awful. I never had any issues coming off the pill, maybe because with the pill you still have a regular bleed. I was the same as you, no periods at all and I only had this implant in for 11 months.

I am now on CD28 which is the longest cycle I've had since! All previous have been 24 days and very light periods too. This month I've taken vitamin B complex, extra B6, high strength C and D and agnus castus. Might be worth a try especially agnus castus which is supposed to help regulate periods. AF is due for me any time so I'll keep you posted!

OP posts:
CooperLooper · 01/01/2020 16:59

@Beau2019 I'll look into agnus castus maybe after my next cycle, depending on how it goes. I'd started taking pregnacare preconception last month which was the cycle where I missed a period, so I stopped taking them after reading peoples similar stories online so I got a bit scared off supplements.

I hope your AF doesn't turn up and it's a positive instead :) x

Trying2019 · 01/01/2020 17:08

@CooperLooper welcome 😃 sorry to hear your having short LP as well. I had heard the same about pregnacare. I had long cycles after stopping the pill so dont want to start any conception vitamins. Im just taking folic acid the B vitamins and going to start vitamin c this month. No effect on my ovulation so far thankfully. What app did u use to temp? Im going to temp this month just to confirm when i ovulate after my peak OPK.

@Beau2019 when you testing again? Great news about your LP xx

Beau2019 · 01/01/2020 17:27

@Trying2019 I know I'm so so glad it's almost back to normal! This month anyway! I'm on CD28 today so going to try and wait until Friday at the earliest. I don't think I'm pregnant, I'm sure AF is imminent.

OP posts:
Trying2019 · 01/01/2020 17:41

@Beau2019 its good to be in a position to even test. I never am with my spotting being so early. What dose vitamin C are you on? X
