Conceiving when breastfeeding - are the symptoms any different?

Last time I conceived I had lots of mucous which sort of gave things away and felt sick and tired all the time.

Now I'm breastfeeding DD (have had one period), have monsterously sore boobs, absolutely exhaustion, and lots of CM when I wipe (sorry if TMI) but not as much CM as last time. I wondered whether the breastfeeding was drying things out a bit.

BTW I can't test for another ten days and it's driving me nuts but I was aware I was pregnant last time within about six hours of conception!

Littlelapin - little bit yes.

So does breastfeeding dry out mucous? I know you have less for sex but does it follow that you have less when preggy and breastfeeding?

Also do the sore boobs stop?

Littlelapin - perhaps you need to have a fight with your partner? Honestly I'm not sure how this has happened (well I do obviously but you know what I mean) we've had sex THREE TIMES in nine months. (DD doesn't do sleep).

Have you tried hynoconception? It really helped me believe I could get pregnant when I was told I couldn't. Also did acupuncture - got pregnant first day I had treatment (perhaps I needed a little prick ).

I wish you luck anyway. We need more pregnant people round here, I'm starting to look fat in comparison

Littlelapin - I have my fingers crossed for you (would cross my legs but this is apparently bad for conception )

Life is funny, last time I was on drugs to conceive (didn't work BTW).

This time we are giving DD drugs (Calpol) so she sleeps through her teething so we can have a go at making her sibling!

DH just sent me up into a tiny loft trap in the studio because and I quote 'if you are pregnant you won't be able to fit in this gap in a few weeks and we need these ducts replacing!

Tipex - how lucky are you - what tipped you off you were expecting then?

Ooooh....sends PG vibes to LL and WMMC....

whomovedmychocolate · 22/08/2007 21:08

Oooh Crookshanks, I haven't seen you for ages. How are the molars coming on (in your LO obv.)?

DD is being a monkey still - up all night last night whingeing.

Poor little mite has a shocking nappy rash due to teething! He was s'posed to go to nursery this afternoon but I took one look at his little bot bot and thought no, this needs serious looking after and was worried the nursery wouldn't do it as good as we can(PFB and all that!) so DH came home to look after him as I had to go to work.

Been washing him with plain warm water and cotton wool rather than wet wipes and using metanium to calm it down and sang him to sleep so he didn't wriggle about getting sleepy thus causing him more discomfort..awww! He's had bad rashes with teething before so I know it will pass as suddenly as it appeared but still not very nice for him! How can teeth cause so many varied symptoms! Weird!!!

LL - changing topic here from WMMC's 'moist' fadge did you give your DS MMR?? In a flap about it with DS....

Flibbertyjibbet · 22/08/2007 21:20

Most people I know with more than one child, including myself, say that the symptoms of every pregancy are different, whether you are bf or not.
Crookshanks - my ds 2 just had his mmr, thats both of my boys jabbed.

Crookshanks, when DDs nappy rash got really bad I whizzed up a cucumber in the blender and spread it on and let her crawl around the bathroom for half an hour with it on, then rinsed it off - seemed to help a lot (though it made a right bloody mess on the floor).

whomovedmychocolate · 22/08/2007 21:22

Loopymumsy - funny you should mention that - DD has gone right off my milk and is monkeying around like crazy - mind you she seems to be off food in general too so I assumed that was just teething.

WMMC - can i just ask, how much are you feeding DD now? it's just that DS is 6mo, onto purees, but still BF 3 at night , and 5 in the day and I'm just wondering waht our chances of conceiving if we start trying now are, with me still BF? hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread. cheers.

sweetkitty · 22/08/2007 21:50

I conceived DD2 when DD1 was 9 months and still BFing, for me the feelings were exactly the same. It was the first unprotected BD after DD1 was born and the only time that month, DP thinks he has super sperm. I knew again straight away too.

Best of luck x

whomovedmychocolate · 22/08/2007 21:54

Choolie - Hard to say TBH - she's on demand feeding, let's see. She stopped night feeds a few weeks ago and now sleeps 8:30 - till 7:30, feeds at 7:30 and then again at 10, then probably 2ish, then 6ish, then 8:00 - so that's five feeds.

I became aware that I was ovulating two months ago - no periods till last month but definite mucous and hormonalness in four weekly cycles (and spots too ) Oh and massive chocolate cravings.

Got first period last month. DD has been eating food since six months but that doesn't seem to have made as much difference as her sleeping through the night.

BTW I was doing a dream feed and just dropped it one night because I was knackered and she didn't miss it a bit! In fact she slept better.

Does that help at all? Hope you manage to conceive again soon too!

sweetkitty - ahh that's lovely - thank you.

Actually my DH does have supersperm - or Domestos sperm as well call it. He was tested when we had trouble and he has low semen volumes but SEVEN TIMES the normal levels of sperm. So less batter, more babies!

He was so chuffed when the GP told him, bless!

men eh what they like?

I had AF 4 weeks after lochia stopped with DD1 with DD2 she was 11 months before AF returned but she fed all the time. She was eating loads and it still did nothing for her sleep. She woke she cried she got boob she went back to sleep. In the end we had to break that cycle, I slept in another room DP stayed with her and comforted and cuddled her when she cried so she was never alone. First night was rough but once she realised she wasn't getting milk she was fine the enxt night. She was 13 months when we did this before she was waking 5 times in the night and I was shattered, best thing we ever did she sleeps great now and we can get back to ttc. hope that helps a wee bit
