Hi looneytune can't advise I'm afraid as have not been on the pill for years and years.

I am sure however that they would do hormones tests on you to show what your ovarian reserve is if there is a history of early menopause in your family and if they won't do them on the NHS then you could get them done privately, though again don't know about the costs of getting the basic tests done privately.

The one that gives an indication of ovarian reserve needs to be done on day 3 after your period starts.

bobbydazzler · 20/08/2007 17:57

PMSL at SAS

going home now to continue surveillance ops on knickers!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 20/08/2007 17:57

Looney just because you havent been trying long doesnt make your crappieness less crappy! I would get checked out by the doctor for your own piece of mind I do hope all is ok and if the worst comes to the worse it doesnt mean you cant have children as look at that women last year in her 60s who just had a baby through IVF! But dont worry about it until you know the most likely reason is because you have just come off the pill chin up!

Have rang the EPU and no answer they said they would ring me with the results either this evening or tomorrow so will wait for their call

looneytune · 20/08/2007 18:00

Thanks Bobbydazzler, that's what I'm hoping, to have a blood test like my mum. I'd like to know a bit more about the test you just mentioned as of course my mums test was because she had NO period. Obviously, can't be the same test. Actually, I wonder if this is the thing someone mentioned to me recently about being able to buy a kit from Boots for about £70? . I'd rather get the Dr to do it and save me money because I want to talk to the Dr about the whole thing anyway.

looneytune · 20/08/2007 18:03

TLSM - thanks for understanding about my crappy feelings I feel bad though as you really must be going through it! I hope they call tonight and not tomorrow, waiting is horrible isn't it!

You've cheered me up already, didn't know IVF was an option as my being naive , never understood about all that. I thought going through the menopause meant my eggs were no good and I thought IVF was them getting your eggs, fertilising them and putting them in the right place? You see.........I haven't got a bloody clue have I!!!

bobbydazzler · 20/08/2007 18:03

definately wait and see your Dr before you go forking out money on tests from Boots.

I guess there are different tests for different problems around ovarian reserve so you need to chat it all thru with your Dr before which time you will hopefully have got your AF.

bobbydazzler · 20/08/2007 18:08

The woman age 60 (?!!?) will have had IVF with doner eggs, not her own.

If you have no eggs of your own, or your eggs are off very poor quality then doner eggs becomes the only option (and I believe a very costly one at that I am afraid, emotionally costly as well as you would obviously have to deal with the issue of the child having half of someone elses genes)

Try not to think too far ahead however, first you need to see your Doc.

x

sweetkitty · 20/08/2007 18:11

TLSM - keeping everything crossed and thinking of you, you must be going out your mind with the worry hope you can get your mind off it bit and relax

looneytune - never apologise for having a moan this ttc business can be tough and you have added worries too, hopefully your period has just went a bit mad after the Pill and AF will turn up soon then you can have a CD1 proper and do some serious ttc.

bobbydazzler - keeping everything crossed for you I remember you from the other ttc threads too. My DP thinks he has super sperm as he has knocked me up first cycle last two times. Nothing to do with me charting EWCM and timing BDing or anything men eh?

Off to sort out the dinner now take care all x

BabyBratt · 20/08/2007 18:17

Hi looneytune, I was on the pill for a long time and it took about 6 months to fall into a cycle but the length still varied slightly. It took me 10 months to get a bfp.

My doctor told me that being on the extends your fertility because you are born with a number of eggs. The is why women have a bio clock. The pill stops you ovulating therefore storing the eggs!! I am no doctor or expert but I would say you might have more eggs than you think!!

I cannot advise on early menopause but if it is worrying you, a docs visit may be worth it. Also worrying may not help you conceive.

BabyBratt · 20/08/2007 18:19

sorry thats meant to say - being on the pill.

TLSM - I hope they call soon.

bobbydazzler · 20/08/2007 18:28

Thanks Sweetkitty

looneytune · 21/08/2007 07:56

bobbydazzler - that's what I thought, don't want to waste lots of money when I don't need to and I might be testing the wrong this! And at my silly IVF question.......that IS what I believed to start with, was a bit confused as wasn't really with it yesterday but that makes sense now. I really really don't want to have to go down that route if I don't have to, would much prefer my own eggs of course PLUS I think it's about £3k a try (that's what my friend paid as her dh has a problem and couldn't ejaculate).

sweetkitty - thanks and yes, me too. Although I still have no AF (CD31), I'm no longer feeling like I'm going to have one as in the period pains have gone. Maybe I'll be one of those who doesn't have one for a couple of months but I spend a week feeling like it's here?

BabyBratt - that's interesting, I didn't know that. I must say I'm very confused about what the pill actually does as I used to get the EWCM when I was on the pill, just didn't know about CM then so thought nothing of it. I thought eggs WERE released but they couldn't be fertilised, obvious my understanding was wrong . Still not sure what the connection with eggs and early menopause is. I need to get more info really. Hopefully be at the Dr's in 9 days so will feel better then. I wasn't worried about it really when TTC, I knew about it but it wasn't until I was late and then talked to mum yesterday - having that chat really made me think about it all. I think because mum sounded like she thought I could very well go through it.

TLSM - how you doing? I presume you haven't heard anything yet and you're playing the waiting game. I really hope you have some news soon and it's good, fingers crossed!

sweetkitty · 21/08/2007 08:21

TLSM - any news yet? Thinking of you today and hope hope hope you get some good news.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 21/08/2007 08:39

Still no news the unit doesnt open till nine so I will ring them then! I did another test this morning and its darker than yesterday which must mean the bud is producing more hormones!

I now this sounds funny but the pain is in my back going down to my bum so i am hoping that i am going to suffer for nine months rather than the other thing will find out soon enough! and i suppose it doesnt help that I am overweight either although lost 4 stone before TTC still really need to lose another 3!

looneytune · 21/08/2007 08:43

Oh......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let that be a good sign!!!! Please let us know once they've told you. Can I ask.......is it blood results you're waiting for?

lissie · 21/08/2007 08:49

TLSM, im sorry you are going through this. i rememeber all to well what it's like. have they booked you in for a scan? with my ep my hormone levels doubled and they only spotted it because i insisted on an early scan.

have you had any blood? one sided pain? and what do you think? i knew that there was something wrong, i just felt wrong iykwim.

libralady · 21/08/2007 09:02

Good luck TLSM. Let us know what the EPU says. [fingers crossed]
LT I'm sorry you are feeling so down. You can rant and rave as much as you like here and we will give you all the support you need. [hugs]
I can't give you any advise about early menopause. The only thing I heard years ago (from an acquiantance) and I don't know if it an old wives tale, is if you go grey early, that can be a sign that you will have an early menopause. This could be worrying for me to as I have been going consistently grey since I was 15 (now approaching 38) and have been dyeing/hi-lighting/low-lighting my hair for years. It's alright DH does know!
Due to my persisting back problem I haven't had it done for a while and my hair is now shocking! I'm actually putting it down to the fact that my maternal grandfather was pure white by the time he was 30.
Anyway thinnking of you and hope the Dr can could your mind at rest.
Take care
LLxxx

hopefully you have just pulled your back or something see you over there soon. look after yourself.

libralady · 21/08/2007 10:08

Right I've had enough now
DS is now complaining that his ear is hurting so it's off to the Drs.
He did have me up in the middle of the night so gave him some Calpol and when I asked him first thing this monring he said it didn't hurt. Now it does - poor little mite - they really don't know what to do with themselves when they are poorly do they? It is also difficult for them to explain what the problem is. Miracles upon miracles I've managed to get an appointment for 11am, although the receptionist did say that this particular Dr does run late and not to come in until 11.30!
Luckily I haven't taken any of my strong painkillers this morning so I can at least drive the car!

lissie · 21/08/2007 10:12
