TTC for 1 year +

Does anyone want to join?

I have been TTC #1 for 15 months and had a MC at 8 weeks in February.
I am off to the GP tomorrow to try and get a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist.
Tried every trick and tip and old wives tale in the book to get a bfp!
It would be good to have a group of longer term ttcers to chat to.

@FlapJackered I really would start complaining of pain and get urself pushed up the list to get that removed - so unfair

@KatBeCool I'm sure they would have given you the right day for IUI when they're doing this day in day out and know the trigger shot time etc - this is what u need to tell urself or Ul drive urself crazy ... so much easier said than done I bet! Poor u, it must be actually impossible to thinking of anything else only am I? Am I not? Repeat repeat repeat!
Fingers, toes, and even legs crossed now that it's worked 😂

KatBeCool · 22/08/2019 15:42

@Broodyaf thank you! I am driving myself crazy nonstop, you are right. On one hand, the fertility clinic should know what they're doing, on the other hand, my body isn't guaranteed to oblige.

RosettaR · 22/08/2019 15:47

@KatBeCool the consultant I saw privately was very dismissive of temping. He asked if I use OPKs so seemed to consider them more reliable. So don't stress too much about your temp rise.

Broodyaf · 22/08/2019 17:44

I always fond OPKS more reliable than temping but that was just me.

So I went and got my AMH done today. Results should be back Monday

What should I expect? Any ideas? Above 2 or is that a bit too optimistic for a 37year old? 😏

What were your AMH's ?

KatBeCool · 22/08/2019 18:07

@Broodyaf ohh, be optimistic! It's so possible to have good numbers. My AMH is 4.57 and I'm 40!!! At least I have that on my side, considering that it's been over a year of nothing.

@RosettaR my specialist was the same way, he didn't seem to care about bbt and was more interested in positive opks. So I should probably stop looking into that too much.

Unicorn9 · 22/08/2019 21:00

Is your AMH number is that pmol/l or ng/mL?

KatBeCool · 22/08/2019 21:12

@Unicorn9 ng/mL

FlapJackered · 23/08/2019 10:38

Thanks @KatBeCool I will try that.
I would definitely stop temping, they have done it so many times I am sure they have got it right. I know how hard it is to give up control though! I have been told to stop taking opks but I am still taking them for 3 days!

Thanks @Broodyaf I think that is a good idea. 🤞🏻
I am away and can't remember which unit it was but I think my Amh was pmol/l so different to Kats but mine was 24. Which is the first test I actually aced 😂.

OP posts:
RosettaR · 23/08/2019 17:53

Mine is 10.9 pmol/l and I'm 31, so that's pretty terrible from what I read. I don't know why it would be so low plenty of women in my family have had children in their late 30s and early 40s so I wasn't expecting it to be such an issue. It makes me want to give up completely thinking about this.

RosettaR · 23/08/2019 19:28

So I got upset after reading about your brilliant amh results, cried a bit and talked with dh. I think we have agreed I'll get it re tested in October, three months after the first test - that's what the clinic recommended. If it's gone down we'll go straight for IVF. If it's stable we'll wait until spring and do it then. We're lucky to have the money for that I know... not that I wouldn't rather spend it on a house deposit...

KatBeCool · 23/08/2019 19:59

@RosettaR as long as you are still in the range of responding to medications, you are safe. It's possible to have medicated cycles without going straight to ivf, so you still have options!

Broodyaf · 23/08/2019 21:22

Oh I'm sorry ur feeling like this @RosettaR
I just asked what people's AMH's were so I could have an idea what to expect myself. But @KatBeCool is still right, u still have options. But you are right to decide to get it retested after 3months and if it is still low ask the clinic's honest opinion.
Plus, be glad that you have savings there if you do decide to jump into IVF

You're like me in that u are lucky u have savings - but I'd rather spend it on a deposit.
Ul still have a roof over ur head when u have a wee bundle in ur arms - whether u own the roof or rent it 😉

Broodyaf · 23/08/2019 21:24

And after all my tantrums and deciding to push on and go private and book the appt for September, the NHS clinic in Belfast rings me this evening with a cancellation appt for this Wednesday!!

So much for the 9-12weeks waiting list ... that's 8days from GP referral to actual consultation

I know there will still be long waiting periods in between follow up appts and if I need IVF but it was nice news to get on a Friday evening... any excuse to have a glass of wine eh 👌
Anyone joining me? 🍷

Happy Friday folks xx

KatBeCool · 23/08/2019 22:36

@Broodyaf that is great news? What a nice way to start the weekend. Where will you be in your cycle? I got lucky that my first appointment was exactly on day 3.

KatBeCool · 23/08/2019 22:37

Meant to say "!" not "?"

FlapJackered · 24/08/2019 07:31

@Broodyaf no way! That is great news! I can't believe it was so quick. Hopefully they will get the ball rolling for you pronto.

@RosettaR I am sorry lovely. 10.9 isn't a terrible score though is it? Looking online it seems you are still within normal limits for 31? I think retesting is a good idea though, even if it is just to give you peace of mind. What did your consultant say about it? Was s/he worried?

starkid · 24/08/2019 11:02

Not sure what happened, I thought I had notifications on for this thread!

@Broodyaf- brilliant that you can be seen so soon! Will have to tell us all about it and what happens.

All this talk of amh... when did you all get tested for this? I don't think I had it done in my blood test in January Confused

Am 4dpo, & due 1st sept which is easy to remember at least

Mrs71 · 24/08/2019 11:17

@Broodyaf that's great news! AF came for yest was expected anyway! Defo joined you yest 🍷🍷🍷 I am feeling positive as I've started taking thyroid medication.

@KatBeCool they put my medication on repeat at the gp's surgery. The consultant wrote them a letter asking them to do this and I'm going for a blood test in 3 weeks so ✌️ it works.

Mrs71 · 24/08/2019 11:17

I meant fingers crossed 🤞🏼 it works 😂

Mrs71 · 24/08/2019 11:20

@RosettaR sorry you're feeling like this. Did you take all your blood test results to your acupuncture appointment? My lady asked me to bring everything with me and she sat down and went through all the results with me. Made me feel so at ease and better about the whole thing.

KatBeCool · 24/08/2019 11:45

@starkid I had amh tested twice, first by OB a year ago and then at the fertility clinic. You should've had it tested, it's one of the first things they test. Maybe you missed seeing the results? And if not, definitely get it tested.

@Mrs71 ✌️ for you! 😂 It usually works fast. Even if you get to only 0.5, that's already acceptable.

starkid · 24/08/2019 12:21

@KatBeCool - I had the day 21 blood test, would it have been on there? Annoyingly I lost my results, the only ones I have were the ones I wrote into a thread on here once. I did copy and paste them into a word doc once I realised I lost them, but don't think it has it on there :-/ unless I didn't type them all up. But yes, I'll definitely ask about it! And I want my vitamin b12 and D tested too.

This is what I still have from when I typed them up before:
Sex hormone binding globulin level- 64nmol/L [25.0-122.0]
Testosterone level-1.3 nmol/L [0.2-1.7]
Androgen index- 2.0 [

Mrs71 · 24/08/2019 12:58

@KatBeCool is it acceptable at 0.05? For fertility I thought it had to be higher.

KatBeCool · 24/08/2019 14:52

@Mrs71 0.5 not 0.05. As in half of 1, that's acceptable. You should be able to reach that in a month. It'd still be a bit low but tremendous progress and not as bad for TTC.

@starkid sounds like your test was mainly for sex hormones, I remember the list from when I had it done once, so I wouldn't be surprised if amh wasn't there at all. You can test it on any day.

Broodyaf · 24/08/2019 15:50

Thanks ladies! Oh I drank a whole bottle of wine last nite to celebrate 🙈
Slightly lethargic today to say the least.

@starkid
Don't be panicking if you think u didn't have your AMH done... I didn't have mine done and I nicely demanded it in the GP. She said it wasn't 1 of the tests they do and that it's the 1st test that's done at the fertility clinic when u get ur 1st appt (consultation)
But I kinda pestered her lol
And she said well we'll chance our arm but no guarantee they'll do it.
So I played dumb, went to the treatment room and they took the blood for it and Rubella lol
Results should be back tues (cos of bank hol on Monday)

@KatBeCool by NHS appt on wed I'll be CD15 but I would imagine the results of the AMH would be quite a bite to go on without the FSH?! I'm just guessing here...

Got all the forms in the post today for the private consultation - a leaflet came through with prices for Access Fertility - have you all heard of this? It's for IVF/ICSI & it's dearer but depending on the "deal" u go for u can claim a certain amount back if you don't have a baby.
