Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

Sorry forgot o tag you @Catconfusion

Catconfusion · 03/01/2020 15:17

@EssJayyCee I asked my doctor about this and she said she didn’t think irregular cycles were a problem. My ovulation was day 32 and baby is fine. The first one I lost was day 19 I think. It’s just random. You’ve got two sets of dna coming together so a loss can be just as much down to a dodgy sperm. The egg was good enough quality to get fertilised so your chances are good. If the ovary releases an immature follicle it just dies off.

Do you know what, if doing an ic helps your mental health then go for it. Stick with cheapies if you’re skint. You’ll still see the line progression. I did one every day or two and left them on the bathroom shelf to see them getting darker.

I think FF was right because if it was earlier you’d have got a darker line than that with the first test. If you were nearly 5 weeks it would be blazing red by now. Mine had a test line darker than the control at that point. Three days before is totally possible. I know someone who dtd five days before o because her DH was going away, got upset because she thought she’d missed it and got pregnant. It’s all looking good! Xx

@Catconfusion Oh well that is reassuring to know a doctor said that.

It is helping me with seeing the darker line but then when it's not darker it worries the hell out of me so I'm not sure if it is good for my mental health or not!

Oh okay, 4weeks+2 is good for me anyway! I just wish 12 weeks would hurry up so I can see my little peanut!

Hi,
Do you mind if I join in ? I am 41 with very long cycles (between 50 and 70 days) in general. I have a 9 months baby whom I am still bf. I do not have my period back yet but we are trying for a second child. I have reduced the bf to 3 feeds a day hoping that it will help getting my period back. Excuse me if my English is faulty as it is not my native language.

Catconfusion · 04/01/2020 09:33

@EssJayyCee I also know of lots of ladies in my Ovusense Facebook group who got pregnant late in their cycles and it worked out.

If It’s making you anxious stop testing. I was lucky that I had an ultrasound at 4 weeks although the doctor didn’t let me know the result until I was 5 weeks. At least I knew the sac was in the right place. I stopped testing after this and had another scan at just over 6 weeks where we saw the heartbeat.

I know, it’s so hard and there’s so much waiting involved. I don’t know how ladies coped years ago before ultrasounds. My Mum didn’t have any with me or my sister. It will be magical though when you go in and see baby. You can see so much at 12 weeks. I’m so excited for you! Xx

@Ellabb welcome to the thread. I’m looking forward to chatting to you as I’ll be in your situation next year. I’m 40 and 26 weeks pregnant. My cycles are irregular at 35-50 days but we managed to fall pregnant naturally. My baby is due in April and in a year we hope to try for number 2. I will be 41. What was the birth like with your baby? I know lots of ladies in their 40s have babies but I have arthritis in my hips and I’m not sure whether to push for a c section. I’ve heard emergency c sections are a bit more common after 40. X

Ellabb · 04/01/2020 12:40

Catconfusion, we had a natural birth with no epidural (my Choice) and it was a great experience. I could not believe how fast I recovered ! In your situation I would not push for a c-section as many gynea then recommend to wait for a year after birth to start a new pregnancy.

Catconfusion · 04/01/2020 18:37

@Ellabb it’s great you had such a good birth. My problem is I can’t rotate my hip very far due to a birth defect and arthritis. It’s really painful and honestly I’m already getting a lot of issues with it. I’d be fine with waiting a year as I’d like to give my body a rest anyway. Wouldn’t want to leave it any later though at my age.

I hope reducing the feeds brings on AF. If you can afford it I found Ovusense was really good for tracking cycles and ovulation. I know a friend of mine fell pregnant while breastfeeding without her periods starting up so would be interesting to see when it happens. Xx

@Catconfusion I think I have come to my senses a little bit today about not thinking too much about it all. I am going to get a clear blue digital in a but and do it with FMU in the morning and i will try to make that my last test. (She says knowing full well the stack of IC's will be used in the next week or so😂)

I am excited for the whole thing too. I am feeling extremely optimistic right now. I want my booking appointment so I know it's real and I'm on the system as being pregnant I think it will feel more real then!

Did you husband go with you to the booking appointment?

Ellabb · 04/01/2020 19:32

Catconfusion I can totally understand the c-section option with your hip problem !! I will look info ovusense as I could definitly use some help !

Essjayycee my dh was present for my scan as I wanted him to be with me whatever the news were.

EssJayyCee · 05/01/2020 08:31

😁
I am meant to be 4 weeks+4 so shouldn't it say 2-3 weeks?

Essjayycee I would not worry to much at this stage. Your cycles were erratic so until you have your scans it is difficult to say when the conception was really. Also, it depends on how much the hormones were diluted when you took the test. I keep my fingers crossed for you !!

Catconfusion · 05/01/2020 11:28

@EssJayyCee that’s definitely the attitude to have. Yes my husband has been to every single appointment including midwife ones. He works early morning so has afternoons off so that’s helped. I’d say the scans are a must. It’s an incredible experience and obviously if there was some bad news you’d have support there.

Honestly I wouldn’t worry about the digital test. I stayed away from them due to people having bad experiences. I think you and fertility friend are pretty much bang on with ovulation but you’re only just over the four week mark so it might be a few more days before you get the 2-3 weeks as hormone levels can vary in your sample. As long as the other tests are showing progression every few days I wouldn’t worry. Only an ultrasound at the 6/7 week mark can tell you for sure if it’s progressing. Even then things can go wrong. It might be best just to stick with your super positive attitude and wait out the 12 week scan. Xx

EssJayyCee · 05/01/2020 15:10

@Catconfusion My DP will definitely come to all f the scans but I wasn't sure if he needed to for the booking appointment?

What actually happens at the booking appointment?

I'm not really bothered by it I just didn't get it when I am over 4 and a half weeks I just expected 2-3 rather than 1-2 but it doesn't matter. Just seeing the word "pregnant" was enough.
I have also done an IC this afternoon which has shown the darkest line so far so that's made me happy.

March needs to hurry up because it should be roughly then when I have my 12 week scan! 🥰

Catconfusion · 05/01/2020 16:49

@EssJayyCee it’s completely up to you regarding the booking in. My DH came, they do take information about him too but obviously it’s stuff you could give. It’s mainly filling in forms. They do take blood and check a urine sample plus do your weight and BMI. It’s not essential for him to be there if getting the time off work is difficult.

I just think the digitals are confusing and not very sensitive. Great you have a darker ic now. That’s really reassuring. I hope March comes quickly for you. The waiting is so hard. Just keep busy and try to focus on other things if you can. Wow I’ll be really close to giving birth when you have your scan. It’s so exciting! Xx

@Catconfusion It feels like your pregnancy has gone really quick! I bet it hasn't for you though!
Your baby will be 5 months old when my baby is born! 😮 that's crazy!

I think I will just go on my own to the booking appointment then we need to be getting in as much money as we can so it seems silly him taking time off for something he doesn't necessarily need to be at.

Why do they take blood at the appointment? Is it just to triple check you're definitely pregnant?

I know it's just paper work but I'm even excited for that appointment! 😂

EssJayyCee · 05/01/2020 19:10

@Catconfusion are you happy for me to PM you?

Ellabb · 05/01/2020 19:15

Essjayycee one thing I can tell you... from what I just read in your post.... and keeping my fingers crossed that the pregnancy is ok.... You will most probably have the feeling your pregnancy is lasting for ages till you have your baby with you.... while other women's pregnancy will seem to just fly.....
And I just felt the same, with all the stress around a pregnancy, every day felt like a century.... and now it feels like it was so short....

Catconfusion · 05/01/2020 22:06

@EssJayyCee of course you can PM me.

I’m pretty sure it’s std tests that could affect pregnancy like HIV. Also I think they check iron levels and blood type. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 05/01/2020 22:56

@Catconfusion Oh right okay 😁 I've recently had all the STD swabs etc because of protocol with being referred to gynaecology.

Thank you. I have PM'd you.

Catconfusion · 06/01/2020 08:43

I think @EssJayyCee it’s the blood born ones they check for. They do it with everyone regardless. Also blow test to check for smoking. I’ve never smoked in my life but still have to do it at every midwife appointment. Xx

EssJayyCee · 07/01/2020 06:37

@Catconfusion I feel like I might lose this pregnancy..
IC's looks as if they are getting lighter, I've still not had any symptoms other than swollen boobs but I'm not sure if they are less swollen this morning too.
I feel like I'm near the end of this pregnancy Sad

The last two were FMU as well..

Catconfusion · 07/01/2020 09:21

@EssJayyCee I’m so sorry your ics are not giving you reassurance. Try not to give up hope just yet. Have you done any more FRERs? I know they are expensive but if the line is fainter on one of those after a four hour hold, it may not be good news. xx

OP posts:
Avocuddles · 07/01/2020 10:07

Hi ladies. I've been following silently but just wanted to let you know that I'm rooting for you @EssJayyCee. It might be worth getting in touch with your GP to ask if they can give you blood tests to see if your levels are rising as they would expect. It's hard but sometimes worth stepping away from the tests. In my pregnancies I invested in some FRERs then tested every three days, plus every nine or ten days with a clearblue until I got a 3+ (which was probably at around 6 weeks), at which point I stopped completely. Ultimately testing won't change the outcome one way or another, but I appreciate how very stressful it is when you don't think things are progressing as you would hope. I would definitely speak to your doctor and see if they can help, they may be able to refer you for an early scan at 6 weeks if nothing else.
Good luck, I hope this is your rainbow x

Avocuddles · 07/01/2020 10:08

Apologies don't mean rainbow, was confusing which board I'm on! I mean your much wanted baby Thanks
