Hi ladies,

I suffered a silent miscarriage end of October and was just looking to start a thread for ladies in a similar position to me, who are trying to conceive at the moment. Would be lovely to have some support and guidance.

xx

@chocolatecake08 that's shocking!! Can't believe they are making you wait a week, did they give reason? That's really poor, Iv never heard of anything like it ..not here in Glasgow anyway!! I wouldn't blame you for going private x

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 08:51

@Dianebz1

They didn't really say much the exact words were

'Our tests came back positive and you look able to travel home so with all pregnancies where there's bleeding we make an appointment at EPU and they will do a scan but that appointment is Friday. Go home have some rest take pain killers and drink fluids. Get an appointment letter from the desk' 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

HayzCo · 19/01/2019 09:11

If you can and it would put your mind at rest, then I would, then you can have another one on Friday with nhs. I also think sadly the people that shout loudest get heard, so if you feel you could demand one you might get seen sooner, Surely with your previous experience they should be more understanding and offer more reassurance. Really hoping all is ok for you

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 09:11

I would go private if you can, it makes you realise the difference between areas when you hear thing like this.
I get I live in a very affluent area of the country, but I think the NHS services should be the same very where.
I’m not slating the NHS, because the have been a amazing with me and other family members.
My doctor surgery has just been made into a super practice. It now takes a minimum of 49 minutes to get someone to answer the phone to make an appointment, when you do get through they tell you, you can have an a pin 2 weeks. My usual answer is I could of died of it by then. If it is an emergency I can get a member of the team to call you.
I’m not sure what the answer is, but it can’t carry on like this.
Sorry having a rant.

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 09:12

Appointment not a pin😂

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 09:19

@Em39ma

Wow thats crazy😳i must admit my GP is actually really good and get an appointment straight away. The wait time in a&e usually isn't too bad its waiting for an appointment that they've referred you to that is an issue.

I've decided I'm going to go private because i cant wait a week not knowing i'm in agony. They gave me pain killer through an IV and i was still pacing the corridor in pain.

HayzCo · 19/01/2019 09:25

I read on the Tommys website that they did a big campaign a few years back to try and improve experience of women experiencing miscarriage. Interesting read. Sadly my experience suggests nothing has changed, at least in London where I live. had my 12 week scan with non sign of anything wrong beforehand, which showed slow heart rate and on the small side, though could have dates wrong so was sent away for a week. I went back a week later, this time no heart beat but there had been some growth so after making me wait 4 hours they sent me home again for another week to see what happens. There was differing opinion between two doctors apparently. That week was hell knowing v likely to miscarry at home, but it didn’t. Then at my third scan they told me was MMC and the obs/gyn that did it apologised and said they should have called it week before. Had the op the next day. Was all so unnecessary and meant they wasted more of their own time.

Hope you don’t mind me sharing that. NHS is such an incredible amazing institution and can’t imagine how tough it is for the staff to be so underresouced and just trying to do a good job. But I do think when it comes to maternity health there is maybe not as much sensitivity and care and you have to fight your own corner at every stage. Otherwise you’re just another statistic.

Frillyfarmer · 19/01/2019 09:33

Oh gosh @chocolatecake08 that's so unfair, I'm sorry you've got to wait a week, if you can afford a private scan I absolutely would. Can you not ask for your GP to refer you to EPU earlier than a week? X

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 09:35

@Frillyfarmer

Ive asked they said friday is the earliest, i can afford to go private but idk if im just being silly doing that. X

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 09:40

I don’t think your being silly.
It was my private scan that pick up my miscarriage, they are really good so I would go for one.

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 09:51

@Em39ma

Ive decided to go for a private one later this afternoon x

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 10:08

That’s great hopefully they can reassure you either way.
FX it’s good news.

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 10:10

@Em39ma the bleedings started to go now so hopefully all is ok x

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 10:17

That’s a good sign, they should also be able to tell you if it’s a hematoma or to do with baby.
Sometimes there can be a small bleed from a bruise like mark.

TTCVickster · 19/01/2019 10:25

Hope I’m not too late to join. We’ve been trying for a year and had a chemical pregnancy over Christmas. Using ovulation sticks it doesn’t look like I’m going to ov this month, is that normal? I was so hoping to be one of those people who catch straight after xx

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 10:25

@Em39ma i will make sure i ask, shall i still go to the NHS appointment on friday?

Em39ma · 19/01/2019 10:53

I would definitely go for the one on Friday. But when I had mine.
The private clinic when they found the miscarriage rang my GP and spoke to them direct and made them call the EPAU to take me straight in.
So I’m hoping that if they find something wrong they will do the same for you.
@chocolatecake.

chocolatecake08 · 19/01/2019 11:13

I hope so,

I thought heavy bleeding and pain meant they would send you straight in but obviously not🤷🏼‍♀️

@Em39ma
