I'm going to the physio tonight as I was involved in a minor bump after Xmas. He normally does acupuncture on my lower and upper back and occasionally a bit of alignment (pulling my hips about, pushing down on my ribs). Should I tell him I'm pregnant? I've read it can impact how they perform the treatment.

The physio is quite effective but is also quite casual and informal and knows my in laws (not closely) so I can't trust him to be discreet.

On the other hand, both times I've conceived it's been directly after his treatments, so I wonder whether they have a positive effect on my fertility (hence I'm still keen to go to my appointments).

What would you do?

strawberrye · 29/01/2019 17:08

@Dimblebimble I can understand your concerns but I would tell your physio as it may affect the treatments he gives you, and also he should respect your confidentiality.

Dimblebimble · 29/01/2019 17:13

Thanks @strawberrye. Technically he should, but he did mention to me about my FIL's piles (which until then I was blissfully unaware of). But I guess I don't have much of a choice, he's unlikely to see my FIL any time soon anyway.

Lilimum6 · 29/01/2019 18:35

Hello ladies
Thanks for the well wishes. I'm now home from the erpc and it seems to have gone well. I'm sore and achy but I expected that. I now have to wait for results from the lab and a referral to rmc. But I think I'm rather disappointed in epas as both my ward doctor and nurse are both heavily pregnant (you know just to rub it in). Do you think I should complain given what I was being treated for. I know it's not the ladies fault what I'm going through but I think it really insensitive of them.

I'm going to count today as cd1 and commit myself to the crazy ttc train once more as I asked about ttc and they said when ever you feel ready just wait for the bleeding to stop. I wondered if it would be best to wait for rmc but the nurse didn't seem to think so.

Yukka · 29/01/2019 18:44

@dimebimble please do tell him, certain acupuncture points and massage areas must be avoided when pregnant. It’s different if helping conceive but now you are pregnant there are strict rules. If he’s a registered practitioner then he is bound by confidentiality, just point out to him that it’s still confidential. He has to treat you as a patient nothing else xx

@frillyfarmer when did you actually mc - you mentioned scan and test two weeks ago but when did you mc and did you track dtd dates?

OP posts:
Yukka · 29/01/2019 18:54

@user1474623337 most women get period within 6 weeks of mc. It does vary and there’s no set rule. Have you had negative pregnancy test? Are you using ovulation sticks at all? These can be very useful for tracking what your body is doing during this recovery time and preparing for period again xx

frillyfarmer · 29/01/2019 19:20

@Yukka I had a heavy bleed on 17th, scanned the following day and they confirmed that there was no retained material on the ultrasound... I'd just assumed I'd miscarried on 17th but it seems quite quick to then have a negative PG test the following day now I think about it?

Yukka · 29/01/2019 19:45

And how many weeks/days were you on 17th? Did the bleed last long?

OP posts:
frillyfarmer · 29/01/2019 19:52

Between 5 & 6 weeks I think, I bled for three days but not heavily, lighter than my period.

Dimblebimble · 29/01/2019 20:04

Thanks @yukka I told him in the end but he said he's not using the points you have to worry about anyway. I still felt paranoid about being poked and pushed, even though I know he wouldn't do it if it would hurt the bean. Also horrible when you tell people and they say congratulations! You must be so happy! But in your head you've not had any happiness and excitement yet as you assume it's just temporary again Sad

Yukka · 29/01/2019 20:11

Hmm yes strange. It does seem too early for new pregnancy. I wondered if you were earlier than you thought and nothing would have be seen at the scan even with a bleed. But that then doesn’t explain neg test.

They’ll check for hcg levels in the blood and might (should) bring you back for another scan. In theory most likely is retained products, even though they said you were clear, they do make mistakes.

Let’s us know what gp says tomo! X

frillyfarmer · 29/01/2019 20:47

@Yukka yes it's definitely the negative pg test after the scan that is throwing all of my theories out 🤷🏻‍♀️

My issue is this week I have been having quite a few PG symptoms I had explained away before I tested, and now I'm in limbo.

I'm really trying to not get any hope that they might have got it wrong because I can't set myself up for a fall having come to understanding I've MC.

How are you getting on, how many weeks now?

user1474623337 · 29/01/2019 20:50

Hi thanks yes we did the negative test ... I decided not to do the ovulation stick as I end up obsessed but regretting that a bit now!!!

Yukka · 29/01/2019 20:56

@frillyfarmer well if your producing hcg for whatever reason you could have symtptoms. Intrigued as to what hcg level they measure in your blood. Bet tomo can’t come quick enough for you.

I’m doing ok thanks for asking. I’m 14w2d now. Still not confident with this pregnancy and likely I prob won’t until s/he is here. I finished heparin treatment yesterday, next check up is next Wednesday. Just taking it one week at a time x

I can tell you all that some of the tummy pains don’t go away. That’s quite hard, as it feels diff from mc pain but you can’t help worry it could be. It’s growth spurts and you just have to tell yourself everything’s ok in there.

@Yukka it's such an anxious time. Everyone assumes the anxiety dissipates after the 12 week scan but for me, one way or another it dogged me all the way to the labour suite and then beyond - I still anxiously watch his sleeping breathing now and he's almost 17months!

I did find that the pains and feelings slotted into some patterns from 16/17 weeks onwards and I kept a diary to channel my inner anxiety - it really helped me at the time so perhaps you could try that? X

Lilimum6 · 29/01/2019 21:08

@Yukka I love reading your updates hun it gives me hope for the future. Sending you lots of rainbow 🌈 wishes

Yukka · 29/01/2019 21:18

Thank you @lilmum6 it’s good to still be in touch with you all. If the worst happened you ladies would be my first point of call.

@frillyfarmer that’s a really good idea. I thought I was seeing a daily pattern that it starts in the evening. I think at this stage baby can sleep so I wondered if it’s an evening grower/wriggler. Acupuncturist suggested also body being tired at the end of the day. I’ll start a diary...thanks! X

@Lilimum6 glad to read that your ERPC seemed to go well. Hope this is the start of things getting better for you and rmc referral comes through quickly. I totally understand why you feel the doc and nurse heavily pregnant treating you feels insensitive and inappropriate - I would totally feel the same. Can imagine though hospital will say that they still have to carry out their duties and it's their shift to work.

@Yukka glad to hear things are going well with pregnancy. Hearing your positive updates gives hope here (no pressure).

My cold is full blown and I feel dreadful. Definitely can't be pregnant with such a heavy cold. Feeling very sorry for myself. Got gynae appointment tomorrow. Follow up after having bloods and ultrasound - I know consultant will tell me nothing wrong and will discharge from clinic as it's for infertility and given I've been pregnant twice in past 9 months they won't help me. He couldn't understand why my GP had referred me back after first mc because I'd actually got pregnant so he's definitely not going to want to see me again now I've got pregnant since even though we lost that one too. I have now booked appointment at a private clinic for tests for mc for both of us. That appointment is next week. I really hope that they can give us some answers.

Lilimum6 · 29/01/2019 23:01

@InDreamland thanks hun please keep us posted on how you get on xx

Lilimum6 · 29/01/2019 23:02

@Yukka I am keeping everything possible crossed 🤞 for you hun xx

InDreamland · 30/01/2019 07:46

I'm out this month. AF started this morning Sad. Another 26 day cycle. Think the second mc un November has shortened my cycles Confused

Laney79 · 30/01/2019 08:17

@InDreamland big hug. If it helps both my cycles before I fell with my second were only 26 days, so it is possible. I have approx 12 day luteal phase so usually ov cd14 xx

Laney79 · 30/01/2019 08:18

@Yukka so pleased it's going well for you. As others have said it gives me hope it is possible!

Mistymeow · 30/01/2019 09:49

Hi ladies,

Hope you're all doing ok. I'm 5 weeks today and have decided to step away from Mumsnet for a few months. I'm quite anxious and need to distract myself, so thought it best to stop with the forums for the time being. I just want to thank you all so much for all the support you've given me since my mmc last April, as well as the invaluable advice. Sending you all lots of love, I really hope you all have your rainbow babies soon.

Kisses,
Misty x
