Who’s trying SMEP this month?

Support thread for those giving smep a go this month! I’m CD6 so going to start soon. All fingers crossed that this works for us all this month.
Debating whether to buy CB OPK or just stick with IC - might do IC until around FW and then see if I can find a few old CB lying around to confirm a positive.
Anyone else giving this a go?

Hi all :)

Hope you’re all ok! Has anyone tried any of these fertility lubricants? I’m so confused about them!

Many thanks :)

NoseringGirl · 11/07/2018 14:07

@Fae1989 my understanding is that regular lubricants are a bad environment for sperm but the specialist fertility ones mimic EWCM. So if you'd usually use lube, then it's better to use the fertility one.

Firsttimer16 · 11/07/2018 14:19

@Fae1989 I did buy some this month - but only used it on day 2 and 3 of my 3 days in a row. Agree that I think all it does is provide a nice pH banalced environment which is meant to help sperm live longer and hopefully make their way to the little egg! It was quite messy!! But did certainly...ahem speed things along a bit! For that on its own it's worth it as after a month of every other day I wasn't really into a long drawn out session!! 😂

@Firsttimer16 thanks for the input...I will continue to bd until it fades...how can I tell if I actually ovulated?

@Fae1989 I tried Tesco Fertility Gel this month as I have never seen or had EWCM, surely lubricated, but dont know if it worked in any other way..

@Firsttimer16 yes, quite messy for a minute there!

TheMagicTorch · 11/07/2018 14:36

@Firsttimer16 and @dee7409 Agreed! We used it for every BD and it made things more... 'comfortable' for me, albeit a bit messy. Not sure how much it helped, will hopefully find out soon! We used Conceive-Plus as it was the best rated on Amazon and had good feedback on MN too.

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 14:37

@Firsttimer16 @dee7409 @TheMagicTorch I did!!! Not my proudest moment...but we found a disabled bathroom that was open 😂 genuinely got an even darker line on the OPK this morning and mega ovulation pain, so we probably would have been fine doing it this afternoon! I've never actually done it al fresco, so it'll be bloody brilliant if that's also the first time we conceive. One to tell the kids eh 😉 😂

Interesting about the fertility lubricants...that was my next shout if this month didn't work out. In all honesty I've never reeeeally had a problem in 'that' area, but anything is worth a shot right? The amazon reviews are full of glowing BFP's!

dee7409 · 11/07/2018 14:53

ha ha good on you @Kelsoid! To be honest my DH would get more excited for the fact that it is NOT in the bedroom! ha ha

TheMagicTorch · 11/07/2018 15:18

@Kelsoid yes nice one! My DP would probably (weirdly) love that! The things we do to try and conceive!!

With my chemical last month, it was conceived in a tent on our camping trip 🤭

That was my thinking re: lubricant, it was something that I wanted to try in conjunction with SMEP and OPKs (a month of firsts for me!) and the amazon reviews were amazing. Even if it doesnt work this month, it certainly didn't do any harm!

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 15:45

@TheMagicTorch FX for a nice BFP then, like you said, it certainly couldn't have hurt!

Honestly guys...the whole process was flipping hilarious. Poor guy even got 'stage fright' temporarily when he heard voices outside, like they were trying to get in 😂 We'd never really ventured out the house before, honestly rather enjoyed it 🤭 might have to make this a regular thing....anything to make SMEP that much less taxing!!

Now just need my little egg to get extra sticky. Arghhhh bring on the TWW!!!

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 15:46

@TheMagicTorch if this month doesn't work out, I'll next be ovulating on our camping trip...guess that's next on the list!!!

Firsttimer16 · 11/07/2018 17:08

Sorry me again. I've had some really sharp pains today down where I would expect my ovary to be...I had my positive OPK last Friday though so is there any chance I'm ovulating now or am I just totally imagining things? It's highly likely my mind is creating pains!

BeeKeeping · 11/07/2018 18:13

Ahh! What does a girl have to do to get a positive OPK around here girls?! I’ve peed on all the wee sticks... cycle day 21 and still no sign! If I draw a second line with a pink highlighter is that cheating?

BeeKeeping · 11/07/2018 18:18

Maybe it’s implantat pains @Firsttimer16?.... eeeeek!

Bas27 · 11/07/2018 18:34

Great reading everyone's plans!
I keep loosing track of how many dpo I am because I'm thinking about it too much which means I'm getting the days mixed up 😆
Not at work for the rest of the week because I'm on a training course so I'm hoping doing something different will keep me distracted.
Anyone else obsessively checking for implantation bleeding with every toilet trip?

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 19:27

@BeeKeeping ha! That made me laugh. First cycle using OPK's (two years ago when we were using them to AVOID getting pregnant) I was convinced my batch was faulty because I never got a positive!! Day 21 seems awful late...are you tracking BBT aswell? Could be a bad batch of tests?

@Bas27 I was OBSESSED my last two cycles. I even got brown spotting two days before my last AF and convinced myself I was pregnant without even doing a test. Course AF showed up bang on time 🙄 imagine I'll be the same next week!

winterwarmers · 11/07/2018 19:57

Did a sainsburys opk yesterday and today yesterday's was much darker and today's is really like so I think my dip was ovulation and will now do bd for the next 3 days

TheMagicTorch · 11/07/2018 20:01

@winterwarmers great stuff! Let the fun begin 😂

winterwarmers · 11/07/2018 20:04

Just need to tempt DH haha he has been out all day

TheMagicTorch · 11/07/2018 20:16

@winterwarmers oh bless, 🤞🤞 for you.

The TWW is torturing me. One minute I'm convinced it's not my month, the next I'm putting my lower back pain down to being pregnant. Going to do an FRER tomorrow morning but not sure how much that'll calm me depending on the result!!

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 20:21

@TheMagicTorch do itttttt!!!! Haha TWW really seriously is the worst. What the hell is up with PMS symptoms being the same as pregnancy? Just to eff you up even more right! Keeping all fingers crossed for a nice sticky bean 😁🤞

Firsttimer16 · 11/07/2018 20:37

@TheMagicTorch how many dpo are you?
Good luck @winterwarmers!

Firsttimer16 · 11/07/2018 20:39

@BeeKeeping I didn't get positive OPK until cd24 last month, but cd16 this month! So it can vary don't give up hope (I was definitely losing my sense of humour last month by cd20!)

TheMagicTorch · 11/07/2018 21:48

@kelsoid I know it's so hard! They should be totally opposite!! I will be testing first thing in the morning. Thank you!!

@firsttimer16 10 or 11dpo tomorrow 🤞

Kelsoid · 11/07/2018 21:58

Anyone have ovulation pains on both sides? I've just had two positive OPK's meaning a reeeeeally long surge....I've always wanted twins and have just made up a theory in my head that maybe I've released two eggs?

Wishful thinking. I know 😂

Firsttimer16 · 11/07/2018 22:02

@Kelsoid eeek can you imagine! That would be successful smep-Ing!

@TheMagicTorch sounds like a good time for testing - we'll done for waiting this long and best of luck tomorrow morning cx
