Hi everyone,

Can I join you?

We are also waiting as we have a big holiday coming up and I really don't want to be suffering with morning sickness whilst away, dh wants to carry on and go for it now, he's usually the sensible one, but right now it's me saying we must wait, the plan is to start when we get on holiday in mid August so not too long to wait.

We decided last month to ttc, it was quite an emotional time and we jumped straight in, anyway it wasn't successful and then we had time to think, we are kind of in a rush as I'm almost 39 so time isn't on my side.

I know that the next 8 weeks are going to be really hard, as I want to get started, I even said to dh that I wished we hadn't booked such a long haul destination this year.

Looking forward to chatting with you all here!

NoseringGirl · 22/06/2018 08:28

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever it might just be all up in your cervix, not everyone sees it even though it's there. Do you definitely know when you're ovulating?
Loads of people on the Ava group I'm on use something called mucinex (I think that's how it's spelt). They're American and it's a medication you can get there for loosening phlegm when you've got a cough. It has the same effect on other kinds of mucous though so increases the amounting EWCM. It's only available to liquid form here (and you'd need to drink loads) but you can get a Canadian type of it in tablet form on eBay. I gave it a try (because they all raved about it) and it just made me smell so weird I couldn't keep using it!

Welcome @CamdenTownie!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 22/06/2018 09:33

@cupcakesandglitter Glad I'm not alone. Mines just quite watery too. It's good to know that not everyone gets it! Thank you.

@noseringgirl I only go on what my NaturalCycles is saying. I have heard that cough medicine helps actually, now you say that. Also grapefruit juice is supposed to be good.

Never thought I'd be talking about my CM on the internet!! Oh what (not quite) TTC does to a person.

mussie · 22/06/2018 19:56

Hey all. Only two days left of contraception for me!

I'm in a mood though, because I was in two minds about whether applying for a secondment while TTC was reasonable. I decided it was, applied for it and had the interview on Monday. Found out on Wednesday that I got the job! Which is great, but then now it seems so much more real that in a matter of months I'm going to have to go to my bosses and tell them I'm pregnant and I'm ditching the job they've kindly offered me. But we can't delay TTC anymore - we've already waited long enough, for one, and secondly I gave back all the pills to the pharmacy because I didn't think I needed them anymore 😅

So now I'm in a position where I'm hoping not to conceive for a good few months into TTC?! Which feels counterintuitive. Ah well. I guess whatever will be, will be. DH keeps saying that the one thing I'd be allowed to do is get pregnant - like it would be more cheeky to announce a transatlantic move or something. I hope he's right. Any reassuring stories about announcing pregnancy to employers would be very welcome!

NoseringGirl · 22/06/2018 21:34

@mussie Congratulations on getting the job! I was on a secondment whilst TTC. I was sort of pushed into it and it was a very stressful role. I told my line manager when I was pregnant and he used it to rescue me back to my old job which I wanted to do anyway. I was actually offered the job permanently even though they knew I was TTC (I'd had to tell my senior manager about the fertility treatment I was having). So pregnancy wouldn't have stopped me if I'd wanted to do the job! It would have been a difficult role to do whilst pregnant because of the environment but they were willing to make adjustments to keep me there.
How exciting that you're so close to TTC! I'd just get started in your new role and see what happens. Don't overthink or try to plan as TTC can be really unpredictable.

mussie · 23/06/2018 09:58

@NoseringGirl thank you for your reassuring words - sleeping on it has put me in a slightly better frame of mind. Exactly, the journey will be totally unpredictable, so no use speculating until BFP! Or even then, to be honest - I've no idea if I'll have sticky beans or not.

One more day to go! Shock

Pebblespony · 23/06/2018 12:30

Hi all, I missed this thread but was on the original one (mostly lurking). We've decided to start trying in September. It means we might have similar birthdays for the DC but as I have horses it makes sense. They'll be able to be turned out when I'm at my most pregnant.

PeonyBlushSuede · 23/06/2018 13:09

How do you ladies cope with the waiting?
Looking like I'll be waiting around 18 months to start trying and at the moment I'm struggling. Everywhere I look it's babies and bumps!
I've been on my period this week which has just amplified the feelings, but they're always there.
I'm also a little worried that 18 months will pass and something else will come up and my DH will want to delay again.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 23/06/2018 13:54

Has anyone thought about how much savings they’ll need when baby comes? OH is having a bit of a wobble as he doesn’t think we’ll have be enough money. I’ve done some quick calculations and we can get all the essentials from as little as £1500. My maternity pay and child benefi would cover all the bills (except mortgage) and we’d have about £300 left a month for food. OH’s wages would cover the mortgage with about £600 per month left over. So I think we’re fine but DP is panicking a bit. I’m really hoping we don’t end up putting TTC back. 😞

Goostacean · 23/06/2018 14:37

@PeonyBlushSuede I feel your pain, I’m looking at at least 13 months... May I ask why you’re waiting? We’re waiting because of the advice to leave at least 18 months between pregnancies (DS is 5 months old) so I console myself that this is in the best interests of baby #2 (if we get him/her!), and for my health too. Planning some nice trips, am about to start learning a new language (we’re living abroad til March) so trying to see the benefit of being able to explore without morning sickness or an uncomfortable bump... but it’s hard to be rational!!

Pebblespony · 23/06/2018 14:55

With our first DC we had no savings. She didn't cost that mich once the essentials are there. We got everything second hand. Our weekly shop went up a bit but not much. We actually went to one wage as Im on parental leave. I'd economise rather than wait. You'll never have enough. We dont have a mortgage but are building a house at the moment.

cupcakesandglitter · 23/06/2018 16:57

@mussie congrats on the job!!! A day left... good luck! Xx

Hi @Pebblespony :)

@PeonyBlushSuede I cry 😂 that's how I handle the wait... it's horrible, and we've always had something come up. But I think it's one of those things there may not ever be the right time for?

@Pebblespony @AssumeItWasSomethingClever I didn't even really think about this. Since we've moved in we've not been able to save anything, currently have no savings - I'm planning on doing everything as cheap as I can though! I don't think we'll ever have enough savings to comfortably able to say we can TTC then and there! I understand the worry though xx

PeonyBlushSuede · 23/06/2018 17:58

@Goostacean we need to do some work on the house first, desperate for a new kitchen. And know if we had a baby first we'd never be able to afford it. So being sensible and practical but still tough sometimes.

@cupcakesandglitter that's me at the moment! A good cry does help

Pinkroseuk · 24/06/2018 20:11

Hi @Pebblespony :)
I agree with the other a good cry does help- I keep getting lots of emails from mothercare about there sale atm and tempted to take a look and see if there's any bargains but at the same time is there any point when I don't know how long it will take to conceive!
Resisting the urge to POAS atm- AF due Tuesday but probably too early to tell yet- maybe?!

Pebblespony · 25/06/2018 00:08

Thank for the welcome. So, I started a diet today. Really need to lose a stone and a half before TTC. My bmi was a bit high last time and I found it tough. I'm going low carb. Meant to go for a run but it's so bloody hot. Like the rest of you, I'm mad to get going and have a baby!!

mussie · 25/06/2018 10:37

@Pebblespony that was part of my waiting journey as well! It took me about a year, and I lost 2 and half stone. Merry contentment has added another few pounds again though, so I'm keen to lose those before it spirals out of control! I did weight watchers. Trying to do low carb at the moment, but lattes and alcohol are my downfall.

And last pill was taken yesterday morning! I was all excited but then I realised I always have a pill free week anyway, so nothing is really any different until I actually miss a pill next Monday. But hey, one more week to diligently finish all the beer in the house Grin

Pebblespony · 25/06/2018 10:47

Vanilla lattes are my nemesis (snd my best friend!) Grin. Exciting times!

cupcakesandglitter · 25/06/2018 10:54

@Pebblespony I really need to lose weight too - my BMI is high, did you find this difficult when pregnant?

@mussie alcohol is also my biggest downfall 😂 I go through periods of not drinking... but then I've had at least a glass of something for the last four days 🙃

OP posts:
Pebblespony · 25/06/2018 11:20

My bmi was high at my 12 week booking appt (it was 30). I'd put on a stone from when I conceived to the 12w week stage. I got sent for gestational diabetes tests but nothing else medical. They went to get a bigger bp cuff which was a bit embarrassing. I found that I was conscious of not putting on too much weight later in the pregnancy and I very uncomfortable. I got a mild prolapse which completely disappeared after some weight loss. I put on a huge amount of weight over the pregnancy and getting it off has been very difficult. I'm determined to start off lower this time. Also, constant nausea during first trimester meant a load of carby crap so I presume this will happen again.

cupcakesandglitter · 25/06/2018 17:18

@Pebblespony ah right 😩 I'm now more determined than ever to get off my arse and lose weight!!

OP posts:
Pebblespony · 25/06/2018 21:03

Just back from a walk with the dog and the baby. I swear it's a million degrees out there.

cupcakesandglitter · 25/06/2018 21:38

@Pebblespony it's super hot! I'm struggling with packing clothes to take to work this week, I have zero idea about what to wear 😩 any suggestions? I don't really get my upper arms out or my thighs, so it's a bit awkward 😂

OP posts:
Pebblespony · 25/06/2018 21:42

I hear you. My body is not built for the kind of exposure warm weather calls for.

Goostacean · 25/06/2018 23:19

Congratulations @mussie both on the job and finally being pill-free (let’s ignore the whole “pill free week” business 😋)!

Ah that’s a lovely reason to wait @PeonyBlushSuede - you’ll have a shiny new kitchen and then hopefully a shiny new baby! I’m just obeying doctor’s orders, grr.

In the same boat as you, @pebbles and @cupcakes (Mm... cupcakes...) re the weight loss. I’d really like to get fully back to my pre-baby weight and also regain my fitness before trying again. Better for the health of everyone involved, really.

I looked into the return of fertility after someone’s comments earlier about tracking cycles before trying, and I think that if I still feel broody in Jan I’ll get my implant out then and go back on the minipill for 6 months. I was really regular with that, whereas don’t know what the implant might do!

rollerskaterdata · 25/06/2018 23:26

@pebbles and cupcakes, I don't do well in heat either. It's so bloody hot and it's only going to get hotter!

I got baby bombed today. Pleased for her but also kinda stung a bit and made my ovaries cry.
