SMEP Thread!

Thanks to the wonders of mumsnet I have discovered the SMEP or Sperm Meets Egg Plan, and am about to start it for the first time this cycle.

Are any of you currently doing the SMEP? I'm on CD8 so the shagathon is about to start Blush

Also if anyone has tried it and had success it would be great to hear from you too!

Hi Hun,

I also gave this a go this month... felt a bit strange having such a rountine but if it gets the BFP then we'll do it ayyyeee 😂👏🏻😉 I'm currently 4DPO... so we shall see soon enough if it has worked this month! 🤞🏻

Good luck to you ☘️

Hopefully we will get our BFP's soon!! 🙌🏻✨

Keep me posted on how you get on x

DaisyMay25 · 01/06/2018 17:36

Hi OP I've done this on three different cycles with no luck, I'll probably do it again this month but luckily for me I ovulate early! Fx for you!

mostimproved · 01/06/2018 18:15

@SunshineAndRainbows6 hope it’s worked for you! I’m worried I’ll find it tiring but am sort of looking forward to it.

@DaisyMay25 I have short cycles and ovulate early as well so at at least there’s not too long to wait. How long have you been ttc if you don’t mind me asking?

OP posts:
DaisyMay25 · 01/06/2018 18:42

@mostimproved 8 months, the months come round so quickly though! It is tiring but you just have to commit, it's the three days in a row that kill me!

mostimproved · 01/06/2018 18:51

@DaisyMay25 I hope this is your month! It’s only my second cycle ttc, and before we started I thought I’d be really laid back but here I am scheduling sex and peeing on sticks like a crazed woman. I’ve been at work all day and am out this evening so haven’t had the opportunity to do an opk and it’s making me a bit anxious Blush I just really want to get pregnant!

Hiya. I did this a few months ago but sadly didn't work (think I got my timing wrong). Currently due on a week tomorrow and if nothing this month will definitely be doing smep again next month. Pls let us know how you get on. Baby dust xxx

DaisyMay25 · 01/06/2018 18:54

@mostimproved I know that feeling, I'd like to say it gets easier but it doesn't haha. I messaged DH as soon as AF came to let him know this months schedule, all about the romance haha Grin

MissJones14 · 01/06/2018 19:04

DaisyMay 😂 I printed off a calendar last time and circled all the days that he needed to get it up and stuck it on the fridge hahaha

lolacola13 · 02/06/2018 00:01

Hi there I'm on cd7... cycle 5... v v early miscarriage last month at 5 weeks + 1... bleeding has stopped and now hoping the next one is a stickier bean... think I might ovulate earlier than usual this month due to the v early loss. I'm feeling some ovary twinges which is normal for me during the second week . Usually ov on day 17-19 of a 32 day cycle . One month it was day 15 though so I'm using opks already! The loss has made me even crazier to get preg . Ttc number three . First two I fell preg within two weeks of coming off the pill. I was 17/24 back then and 30 now .

Pudding01 · 02/06/2018 11:37

What's the sperm meets egg plan?? I'm intrigued!
My fertile window started yesterday, month 9 of trying and I will try anything now! 😂 z

mostimproved · 03/06/2018 13:44

@lolacola13 sorry for your loss and fx for you this cycle.

@Pudding01 it’s basically a schedule of when to DTD to maximise chances of conception and it seems to have good testimonials. If you google it the website should come up with the step by step plan, or I think you can download a full guide plus calendar to go on the fridge!

We missed CD8 in the end but have DTD yesterday and today (day 9 and 10). Feel like ovulation is coming soon as my cycles are quite short, so will be in the 2ww before I know it!

It worked for us the first time we tried it! Had been 'trying' for a while but the first month we did SMEP we definitely had sex more (and at the right times). Best of luck to those giving it a go

orangestarburst · 03/06/2018 21:41

Have been trying for over a year for #2 - early miscarriage in March and tried SMEP this cycle for the first time - BFP yesterday at 9dpo! It definitely helps time the right days I think Smile

cookiesaurus · 03/06/2018 21:48

We tried SMEP and it worked first time. I also drank grapefruit juice too. Who knows what actually works but why not try?!! Good luck

mostimproved · 04/06/2018 18:09

Wow sounds like it gives great results then! @orangestarburst congratulations on your BFP!

My OPKs haven’t turned positive yet - hopefully the three days in a row of DTD coincides with Friday to Sunday so I’m a bit less tired than I am during the week.

OP posts:
Angelmiracle · 04/06/2018 18:22

We followed smep roughly this time only read about it shortly before FW now 1 / 2DPO! If no bfp will follow rigidly in July! Will be interesting to see how everyone gets on.

mostimproved · 06/06/2018 07:13

@Angelmiracle good luck!

We’ve stuck to the schedule so far, and going by CM I am near ovulation but no positive OPK yet. So far I have actually enjoyed making time to DTD rather than always being ‘too tired’ during the week, but we’ll see if the enthusiasm lasts!

OP posts:
Angelmiracle · 06/06/2018 10:48

@mostimproved by the last night I thought DH would say no but fair play we obliged 😂

I had ewcm and no pos opk on Sat so done another that evening it was positive! Trust your instincts too!

mostimproved · 06/06/2018 20:26

OPKs still negative this morning and evening, but have had lots of watery/ewcm and my temp has been going up so feel like I am definitely around ovulation, just want to see that positive!! I opened a new pack of the internet cheapie OPKs on Monday and the control lines aren’t even going as dark as the ones I had in the previous batch when compared side by side, so I don’t know whether it’s a bad batch or I’m just not actually ovulating Confused

OP posts:
DaisyMay25 · 06/06/2018 20:29

@mostimproved do you keep them to compare? (I take mine in a book) upload them if you want and I'll have a gander. I do find the clearblue digital ones so much easier, I might just fork out for them in future.

mostimproved · 06/06/2018 20:54

@DaisyMay25 yeah I have started keeping them to compare side by side, and have also got pics of the darkest ones from last two cycles for comparison.

I have added a pic - so from L-R this is 1 per day from CD9-CD11, then 2 per day on CD12 and CD13 which is today. I know they are all negative but it seems like the ones to the right are fainter in general so the line will also be fainter?! Think I’m going to have to fork out for the CB digital ones next month.

Just hoping I get a positive tomorrow so I can be done with the damn things!

Are you doing SMEP again this month then? How’s it going?

SMEP Thread!

DaisyMay25 · 06/06/2018 20:57

@mostimproved I see what you mean, they're strangely light. How long are your cycles? Is it just this month they've been light? Any idea when you normally ovulate? Mine gets dark really quickly can go to from virtually no line to dark in just a couple of days.

I am indeed, started yesterday. I normally ovulate around CD12 so not long to go really. I'm not sure how many months I'll keep sticking to it for though.

mostimproved · 06/06/2018 21:05

@DaisyMay25 my cycles are short, between 24-27 days, and I’ve only been using OPKs for three months but on the last two cycles I had a positive on CD14 in April and CD13 last month. I only caught these by testing twice a day - there was absolutely no line, then a very faint one and suddenly a dark line, then back to nothing the next morning, so the surge seems to be short and sudden!

At least you ovulate early so the every other day DTD phase doesn’t last too long (unless you want it to of course!!) We hardly ever DTD during the week normally as we work FT with long hours and already have a DS - well that’s my excuse anyway Blush

OP posts:
DaisyMay25 · 06/06/2018 21:11

@mostimproved how frustrating for you that they're still so light then. Hopefully they'll get darker tomorrow. The digitals are expensive but a lot less fuss just once a day with fmu last time I got a peak on then I did an ic opk and got the darkest positive I've had so I think they're worth the money. (They're cheaper on amazon £25 for 20 tests)

Haha true, I got peak on CD11 last cycle so because we DTD on CD10 it ended up being hour days in a row

mostimproved · 08/06/2018 06:50

OPKs are starting to get a bit darker as of this morning - good timing if today is positive as then the Three days in a row is over the weekend! We missed DTD yesterday as DP went for an unplanned work night out - I’m trying not to be a bunny boiler but I felt so angry with him for not sticking to the plan! Oh the joys of TTC!
