SMEP Thread!

Thanks to the wonders of mumsnet I have discovered the SMEP or Sperm Meets Egg Plan, and am about to start it for the first time this cycle.

Are any of you currently doing the SMEP? I'm on CD8 so the shagathon is about to start

Also if anyone has tried it and had success it would be great to hear from you too!

Just thought I'd drop by and update.... feeling rather sad and low this morning as I woke up to AF at 12DPO, 2 days early 😩😭 Luckily have the day off and then this weekend, so can drown my sorrows in food and some wine!

Did everything as planned, from the OPK's to even the grapefruit and pineapple juice/core.... but I guess it just wasn't meant to be for us this month!

Will keep following this thread as I'd love to see some BFP's and success stories from you lovely lot!! 😍🙌🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

@mostimproved glad they're getting darker, fx you get your positive later today or tomorrow. I got my static today on CD11 again so it'll be four days in a row again haha.

@SunshineAndRainbows6 oh no, what a bitch AF can be, showing up early like that - at least you can enjoy your wine ! I’ve heard about grapefruit but is pineapple meant to have a similar effect then?

This is my opk from this evening which I’m taking as positive - was so worried I wasn’t ovulating when I got a positive a day later than last month, I need to get a grip! Will be jumping on DP whether he likes it or not for the next three days.. hope it works!

@DaisyMay25 yep the 2ww has begun! I’m really busy at work atm so hoping that will distract me - although sometimes it just makes me dream about going on mat leave to escape it all!

We missed the 3rd day in a row Sunday night but DTD this morn instead. I’m pretty sure I already ovulated on Saturday anyway but will still do the ‘one for luck’ tomorrow and then give it a rest for a few days!

Welcome @sophi22 and good luck with trying SMEP! It’s a bit tiring for sure but it’s meant to have good results - let us know how you get on.

Hi ladies, I thought I’d update on my SMEP experience - got my BFP today at 12dpo and am over the moon, can’t believe it worked!

@mostimproved woohooooooo!! Def gonna try SMEP properly next month if I need to. I didn't manage the very last one :(

Did you get a BFN before your BFP? I'm 9dpo tomorrow and having to sit on my hands to make sure I don't test until at least sunday!

@8DaysAWeek I tested with internet cheapies yesterday and this morning (don’t know how I managed to hold out that long!) and got basically a BFN although I was convinced I saw something! Then FRER this afternoon was a proper line.

Hope you get your BFP when you test on Sunday - have you got any symptoms?

@mostimproved it was bfn on frer yesterday (just an evap line) then what looks like a squinter (probably evap) on an ic this morning.

DH asked if we need to change the system because it's clearly not working. I suggested starting CD6 instead of 8 because I ovulate usually CD12

Oh no @DaisyMay25 that is frustrating! Yeah I used if you ovulate early it’s probably worth moving the whole thing forward and starting DTD earlier, good thinking.

Hi. Quick question - if you usually ovulate a bit later (irregular, but has been between CD16-18), would you still start at CD8 or start later? X

Well I couldn't hold out until today and used my FRER on Friday which was bfn.

Took a cheapie last night and this morning which show barely there lines.

AF due tomorrow. My mind keeps going between running out for another FRER or waiting a couple of days. I'm no good at the waiting game though 😩

@8DaysAWeek I can see the shadow/squinter in that test, looks like the ones I did at 9/10 dpo. If you wait until AF is due and then do a FRER that should give you the answer, fingers crossed for you! Yeah the waiting is really frustrating - I always thought I was a patient person until I started TTC! Now I feel like instead of the two week wait I'm in the 12 week wait, and still keep POAS to check it's still there.. it's an addiction!

Also, this may be me thinking about it that much that simple things have now gone - But, my AF arrived on Thursday, so would CD8 be on Friday?
I'm confusing myself as Friday is 8 days from AF starting, but if you class AF as CD1, then CD8 would be Thursday 🤷🏼‍♀️ This is month 10 of TTC, so think I'm burnt out lol Any help would be appreciated! X

Hey @Pudding01 yes CD1 is the first day of AF (full red flow rather than spotting/pinky). So if that was Thursday then Friday would be CD9 indeed

I think the rule of SMEP is to do it every other day from when AF finishes? I guess you could start a bit later if you were sure O is late, but I think it's supposed to be an extremely extensive covers-all-bases plan. You never know, you may ovulate earlier. Also, dtd earlier gets rid of old spermies and allows the start of fresh ones to be made before your fertile week. Sperm can live up to 5-7 days inside you so theoretically you could dtd on CD12 and sperm from then could meet your egg on CD18. Dtd a couple of times before this would allow for the growth of those good swimmers.
