Its my first weekend off since December! I'm going to spend the whole weekend asleep! Grin I'm actually off to a dog show with a friend and her puppy. Not sure what happens at this show but I'm looking forward to relaxing. Might even organise my craft room (hopefully invoke sods law and it'll need to become a nursery as soon as I've got it how I like!)
Enjoy your night, you deserve to relax!

@thisis I've already cleared out my wardrobe and drawers, getting ready to gut the house and bask in it's clean glory. Tidying tends to fall to the wayside after a 15 hour shift so it's overdue.

I have got my MIL over so cue hiding all the conception vits etc! I have a dog so will probably take her on a long walk tomorrow.

@Lilsquish I am 30, but also do not feel like it! I still feel far too young to be responsible enough to have kids!

Lilsquish I'm 27. Feel like an old maid compared to both sisters having their first children at 23.
Speaking of mils though mine had the cheek to tell me to hurry up because my husband wasn't getting any younger. This was at 25 and 27, I'm sorry but we aren't all ready to have kids at 19. Although I suspect if I had got pregnant at 19 mil wouldn't have been happy with either of us.

I've actually told family we're trying. I needed support in one sense. On the other hand it shut my mil up when she once again asked about grandkids and I just looked at her and went I'm doing my best. There's only a 25% chance for a perfectly healthy woman.

Since we started TTC, my cycles have been almost regular, after years of all over the place (shortest 19, longest 83). Each month I expect it to go haywire again...maybe this month will be it. But I've been wondering if the pregnancy vitamin I started taking (seven seas) had anything to do with it...

And fwiw with the soy thing...I'm vegan and eat loads of soya, so I've never been convinced on that one. I actually thought the phytoestrogens were supposed to be bad for your cycle and have been eating less of it, not more, since January.

Aph413 · 22/04/2018 23:54

@flyingplum do you mean the soy isoflavones shortening cycles? Because I always thought that was different to regular soya

Report
flyingplum · 23/04/2018 07:23

Isoflavones is just the word for the chemical group that includes the phytoestrogens in soyabeans. I imagine the supplements are more concentrated than if you just eat tofu or eat soyabeans, but I don't think they are chemically different. I guess it depends why your cycle is irregular as to whether it helps, so possibly I was being a bit flippant.

flyingplum · 23/04/2018 07:28

Dammit, pressed send too soon. But my understanding was that long cycles are often (though not always) caused by high levels of estrogen which stops ovulation, so I don't know how a phytoestrogen is supposed to help? Apologies if I've misunderstood this - I can't find an explanation of why it's supposed to help.

@flyingplum the soy is supposed to help mature your eggs but you only take it at the beginning of your cycle your supposed to avoid soy after ovulation

Thank you flyingplum my knowledge of soy supplements admittedly only comes from limited reading so you probably know more than me.
thisisouryr I put 28 days and then let the app work it out as I logged my periods. If you've been tracking them already you could add them in and it'll figure your average for you. What app are you using?

@thisisouryrfx18 - do you have a link anywhere? Not trying to be argumentative, just curious. I've heard the soy isoflavone thing mentioned before, but can't find anything to back up other than threads on various TTC boards. Assume it must come from somewhere, but it contradicts a lot of what I had learnt about my PCOS over the years (pre-TTC), so I just wondered what the science behind it was. I thought high levels of estrogen where one of the causes of long/anovulatory cycles in PCOS because it causes lots of follicles to develop (the poly cycles of the PC) without enough progesterone, and this is the cause of the increased risk of endometrial cancer Etc etc.

Then again, they don't really understand Pcos and there are different types, and things seem to change all the time, so maybe I'm just out of date?

I should add...maybe I just don't understand it enough in the first place!

@flyingplum well im no expert tbh just going by success stories ive been told online there are some interesting articles on it but i dnt know how to attach links tech really isnt my thing lol google an article called soy isoflavones for dummies it explains when and how to take it. As i said it does say do not take if you ovulate it will mess up your cycle dont take more than 200mgs a day and dnt take it longer than 5days and it must b at the beginning of your cycle. Suppose ppl try anything when theyr desperate i chickened out of taking this cycle because it can mess up ur cycle and im a bit cautious messing about with hormones because i thought about the risk of cancers etc.

flyingplum I've only seen the ttc boards with "evidence" of it working. The scientific studies I've found seem to focus on it as treatment for the menopause. I'll find some links on them and come back to you.

thisisouryr I use fertility friend too. Just put in your average and it'll work it out for you the more data you put in. Like I said before you can go back and put past periods in too and it'll give you an average itself
